Clarification on Polyvore's Community Guidelines

Wow, we got over 60 comments on our blog post about the new Community Guidelines! Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to read the guidelines and give us feedback on them.

Most people have told us they think the rules are good ones, and are happy that we're making an effort to deal with mean-spirited behavior. We'll do our best to make sure that the policies are fair and that the Polyvore community stays positive and fun.

Some of you had questions about account deletion, copyright, and roleplay that we wanted to address --

Deleting people's accounts is the absolute last resort.
Deleting accounts makes us sad and we want to avoid it as much as possible. We would only delete an account in an extreme abuse case where someone is being intentionally malicious (for example, uploading a bunch of adult content) and has chosen to ignore multiple warnings about their behavior. We will always notify people beforehand and provide ample time to remedy the problem. We will not delete your account if you've accidentally used copyrighted content in your sets. Deleting accounts is something we take very seriously and we won't do it lightly.

A clarification about copyright issues.
Here's how we deal with copyright issues. If a copyright owner asks us to remove their work from Polyvore, we have to do it. We delete the copyrighted item and change all the sets that contain the item to be in a special "private" mode. This means the creator of the set can still see the set, but other people can't. We also send a notification to the set creator to let them know what happened. If you receive one of these notifications, just load your set into the editor and the copyrighted item will automatically disappear. Once you republish the set (minus the copyrighted item or replaced with something else), it will be taken out of "private" mode and everyone will be able to see it again.

Roleplay is allowed, but please keep it friendly and tasteful.
Fantasy and imagination go hand in hand with fashion and art, so it's fine if you want to roleplay on Polyvore. However, we are NOT cool with meanness, rude behavior, bullying, and roleplays that involve sex or violence. Please keep it friendly and tasteful. Groups and people that encourage, promote, or engage in inappropriate roleplay will be banned.
