well those are nice sets...but except maybe the first one, no self-respecting 40-year-old would wear that stuff! It's goofy!

I'm 2 years away from being 40, and there's no way I'd be caught dead in any of those outfits. Sorry!

What? Who writes the rules on how to dress? Fashion and clothes should empower a woman, not push her into a category imposed by someone with hang ups about age. Shame on the author of this! Some of these suggestions would be more suitable as toilet roll covers. To any woman reading this over 40: Revolt! Burn your beauty magazines! Love who you are and Love your clothing choices as we all should!

the only thing "appropriate" about these sets is that they cover slightly less skin than the trendy skank dresses.

I'm just curious why advice about how one should dress is always directed at the older woman. WTF? If we don't know how to dress by now, God help us, is all I have to say. Usually, this advice is all about "cover up the old lady bits," but the only problem with that is saggy, flabby, and even wrinkly often doesn't discriminate by age. There are 20 and 30 somethings with flappy awful things that should be covered as well. Yet, they are given the green light to experiment.

If we're to dole out fashion advice, can we please NOT do it by age. I don't think it's necessary. Here's mine for everyone: Wear what suits your body type and shape, cover up what needs covering up, experiment within these parameters, don't dress like a tramp, and don't try to copy what teens are wearing unless you are a teen. That's it.

Armed with this knowledge, you should be able to dress intelligently while expressing your individuality.

It's ridiculous how society wants to make you old when you turn 30,40,50... I hate these make over shows that chop a woman's hair short and stuff her into granny outfits just because she is over 30. I believe you should dress any way you want as long as you're not dressing as someone who could be arrested for indecent exposure. As long as you have a nice body, a nice face and you can hold your own, wear the clothes you love!

I would agree those outfits are on the over the top side for most people in most settings. They make a lovely visual assemblege in a photo but most people wearing them most places would get the wrong kind of looks. A butterfly clip for over 40? Really, and carry a teapot with it? Nice pics though, the items make a nice ensemble visually I agree!

I love the comment about young women looking flabbier and lumpier than older women. As a 53 year old who has always been active and exercised regularly...I AGREE! I see college students who look terrible while I'm in size 4 jeans with toned arms and great legs. Why shouldn't I wear any thing I want?
