Cleaning Out Your Closet

Many people from the Polyvore community have written in to complain that their My Items list gets bloated too easily and is too hard to organize. Based on this feedback, we're planning to make a few changes to the way My Items works. These changes will happen on Wednesday of this week, September 10th.

1) Items will no longer be automatically saved when you use them

Currently, we automatically save items you use in your sets or drafts to the My Items list. Many people have told us that they find this annoying, because it bloats the My Items list with stuff they don't want to reuse -- like a cluttered closet filled with junk!

So, we will be removing the auto-save feature. This means your closets will be cleaner, smaller, easier to organize, and will contain items that you actually meant to keep around. Your My Items list will only contain that you clipped or items you save using the "Save to my items" link.

2) Items you don't use for 6 months will be automatically deleted

From now on, items that you haven't used in 6 months will expire from your My Items list. This means your My Items will only contain fresh stuff from your wardrobe, instead of last season's old junk. Think of it as a free maid service or a self-cleaning closet!

If you have comments, questions or concerns, let us know by leaving a comment here on the blog.

UPDATE (9/9/08 9:42am): Based on your feedback, we've decided that we will NOT be making the second change and will only be doing the first change. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this post and leave us a comment, we really appreciate it!

I am not too sure about the six month expiry of items...some of us have so many items that we forget what great items we have that we haven't used due to not organizing! Like finding a great pair of shoes you bought months ago but stuck in the back of your closet to wear.."someday"It would be unfortunate to go looking for those shoes and find that someone "threw them out"

Anonymous said...

i like the first rule, i'm not a big fan of the six months rule. there are some items that i absolutely looove, but have a hard time using, so they just sit there.

Anonymous said...

I'm completely OPPOSED to these changes. I reuse items often- maybe not clothes, but accent items that make fashion sets more interesting, and items that I consider "tools" in building artistic sets. If I'm understanding this correctly, I will have to re-save every time I use something I want to keep. What a pain! I mean, is it really that hard for people to keep their items organized? Every time I publish a set I go through all the items (from the set page) and delete what I no longer want. It takes just a few minutes! Why can't people do this rather than make us suffer these changes? And if you really want to help, do this- make it so that when you're "organizing items" you can actually SEE the item! How about a pop up enlargement similar to when you're viewing items in the editor? Now THAT would be helpful. Ugh, if these changes happen I will be one frustrated Polyvore user :(

I like the first rule, but the second rule is not very appealing to me. Please don't put that in effect.

Anonymous said...

I actually don't like either rule!
I think the way things are now are fine, but if we could organize items by date, color, or type of item, THAT would be helpful!
But please don't change what we already have!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I think the changes are great!!!

Anonymous said...

the first rule is great but lose the last rule

Anonymous said...

The first rule, maybe, but I really don't like the deletion rule. I don't want my old items thrown away. Some of them I absolutly adore. Some of them are just hard to reuse.

Anonymous said...

i love this idea, i find that the items i use, are never used again so it is like cleaning out the closet! Thanks!

Anonymous said...

I don't like any of these rules. The first one i don't like because it would take too long to save all the items to my items that i used in the set because i like to reuse items a lot. I also don't like the second rule because i want to keep some items that i haven't used in 6 months. I'd just wind up making random sets that have no meaning just to keep my items. I would suggest maybe a better organizing system instead of having less items.

Anonymous said...

I don't agree with these changes, I think in your settings you should have that option. I like having all the items I've used saved, and the six month rule isn't very good. Sometimes I save items months before I use them again, but it might be hard to find them again. Please allow there to be an option. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

i don't like the six month one.
like,what about roleplayers?
There pictures will get...POOFED.
yaknow.
so.

Anonymous said...

i agree w/ the first rule but i do not agree with the 6 months rule. sometimes i go back to items i saved months ago and still use them.

Anonymous said...

I'm also not sure about the six month rule either.
i think that one isn't to good.
i know i always go back to my items to use them again.
i think there should be a feature that you can organize your items in different groups.

Anonymous said...

well i tihnk those are really good ideas but cant it be that if you want that you can have it and if you dont then u dont, like for the people that dont want that to happen they can get a reminder sent to them as a pm once a month that tells them to clean their items, plzz cuz i like my items and i delte the ones i dont want a lot

Brickhouse1982 said...

I look forward to the new changes! However, I would love it if my items weren't visible for others to see until I actually use them.

Anonymous said...

Hmm I like the first thing. About no automaticaly saving items. But I like keeping old items and using it for the future. hha it's knid of like vintagey. Or whatever. but please DON'T delete the items after 6 months. :]

srh by kmk said...

I agree with it and I absolutely adore the idea of a free closet cleaning service. :D I do think that a "rotation" button should be added.. Sometimes I find an item that would go GREAT with a set, but I can't use it--or have to find a different one-- because I can't get it to the angle I want. I can only flip/flop my items.

Anonymous said...

I think not saving items when you save your set is a GREAT idea, but the 6 months thing I don't like. I want to keep all my pictures of my friends and me and the Jonas Brothers (stuff like that!)

Anonymous said...

i think it should be 1 month, or a few weeks, then delete unused items. 6 months is way too long.

Anonymous said...

I like how the My Items tab is,
I'd hate having to go back and save everything that I used,
Because I like to make different kinds of outfits with the same pieces. Plus there are some pieces that I would really like to use but I'm still finding what to put them with.
If I saved them a while ago then they'll be gone soon!

Anonymous said...

I don't really like the automatic deletion of my items. Especially if you have a roleplay and you can't find your picture for a set!

Anonymous said...

NOOO!!! LEAVE EVERYTHING AS IT IS!!! IT'S NOT OUR FAULT OTHERS CAN'T ORGANIZE!!! YOU SHOULD MAKE THIS OPTIONAL LIKE MAKE IT OPTIONAL TO DELETE ITEMS SO YOU CAN CHOOSE!!! BUT A RULE YOU SHOULD CHANGE IS THE 50 ITEM RULE...I SPENT LIKE AN HOUR MAKING A SET WITH LIKE 200 ITEMS AND I HAD TO CANCEL IT...I WAS SOOO MAD!!!

Anonymous said...

this sounds pretty fantabulous to me! im all for it:)

Anonymous said...

i that the 1st rule is great but the six month rule isnt cuz there might be some things i our list that we want to keep

Magickisme said...

well I'm not a big fan of the whole 6 months thing...that seems a bit harsh..let's re think that one..please!!! I would hate to lose all my pics I've worked hours and many days to get :0(

Sharonika said...

I LIKE THE FIRST IDEA, BUT NOT THE SECOND. SOMETIMES I SAVE THINGS ONLY TO USE THEM LATER. THERE ARE THINGS I LIKE TO USE OVER, AND I WOULD BE UPSET IF I LOST THEM AND HAD TO FIND THEM AGAIN OR COULD'NT FIND THEM AT ALL.

♥KeepUp said...

I think the first change would be useful but not the second one! People may have had a certain item that they'd been meaning to use but added more items on top, therefor forgot about them and after their deletion, they will not be able to be used. So I do not like the second change.

Meghan said...

I'm not sure I like those ideas. I think that thye should just organize them better. it's their fault. let them deal.

Anonymous said...

I'm not to hott about the 6 mouth rule either, i mean i get what this rule is for, but holiday idems would be a bummer to loose if you want to use them on a set next year. I think it would be cool to have it where the stuff you don't "orginize" like put into a group you have made inside your "my items" should be deleted in 6 mounths sure, but i keep up with all my items and have them very orginized.

just a thought
keep up the ah-mazeing work =)

Anonymous said...

Ok... ummmm! I'm not sure what to think. Maybe if you could make it so that after we publish our set we could choose the items we want to save. Sorta like when you add a contact to you email. It takes you to a differient screen and you are given the option of adding the contact of not adding the contact! Because I agree with the others. i like the things that I add to my items! Sometimes I will add items, not to make a set with, I just know where the pictures are when I need to see them quickly!I like the six month rule thing though. But maybe it could be a warning. Like after an item has been in your "closet" for X amount of time, you are given a notification informing you that your item is about to be deleted. If you want to keep it, you press the KEEP button, if you dont want it, push the DELETE button! I hope that makes sence! And i also hope that my ideas are cconsidered.(:

Anonymous said...

I think the same as everybody else I like the first rule but not the 6 months expiry.

anna malena said...

i definitely don't like the six months rule! i have to dig deep for the items i want to use sometimes, but that's not always bad. often i find something even better while i'm digging :-). and i've clipped many items from fashion sites that will only be on that site this particular season while i might want to use them now, next week, next month or next year. i'd hate it if i lost them all after six months. i think it would be easier to keep order in my closet if i could colour co ordinate it and similarly i think my items would be easier to keep in order if they were tagged by colour automatically. and i want to be able to use sub-tagging.

Suhaina said...

I very rarely re-use items..i like making sets with new items each time.So its ok with me..but its sad for lot of people who usually use the same items.

Harpweaver said...

I, too, am concerned about the 6 month rule. I save lots, and love to go way back and use items that I'd forgotten about; I get to "discover" them all over again, and then I have new inspiration!!!

But thank you so much for working to always improve Polyvore!

brianna said...

this plan sounds great but like many others, i'm not sure about thesixth month expire rule. maybe there could be a folder that you put items in that you do not want to expire. that way, you're clutter free but still have all your favorite items!

Anonymous said...

Um, I think that the 6 month rule sucks....because, if you are in an rp you want to keep all the pics you have used. And now you have to go look for them all over again!=( The first rule is just okay! I'll be soo frustrated if you do the last one!

Anonymous said...

The My Items tab definitely needs some changes, but perhaps not to the effect of the 2 stated rules. Maybe something to make organization of tabs clearer? I'd prefer not to lose items by way of expiry.

Anonymous said...

YAY! I am so happy about the first rule! I can never find anything i saved! but i'm not loving the second rule..
Also, I agree with the rotation button suggestion! It would help so much and let us get mor creative!! Also, that would be really cool if you added some kind of an eraser so you can get rid of any parts of a picture you don't want. for example, if you want to combine a lake and a mountain picture, you might need to erase the mountains ground so it can fit with the lake!! Thanks!

Anonymous said...

i dont like the 6 month thing. maybe like have the my itens in a categorys???? like every item has categories! and the my items are listed in categories so u can find things!!!! i dont rly like the 6 month thing

Tawsh said...

I think it's PERFECTO! maybe on the second rule we could like... i dont know... maybe "lock" per-say items we dont want to be deleted after 6 months. I am pretty sure that would help some people who opposed the second rule below me :]

Anastazia said...

i like the first rule, but not so much the six months rule.. i like to keep some stuff in my closet, even though i don't use them in my sets.

I like the first rule, but I don't want to lose anything I've saved, even if it has been six months since I've used it. :(

for the whole auto save thingy, i think while we are making the set or on the publishing thingy, we should be able to chose if we wanna save some of the items

Polliwog said...

i like the first thing but i'm not sure about the second...

losile said...

I really like the first rule (I HATE clutter), and can take or leave the second. For people who are all losing their minds about it though, perhaps you could make these optional settings? Not everyone is a neat freak like I am!

Anonymous said...

No the six months thing is NOT GOOD because i spend lot of time and do research for items, they are like my babies and to see them deleted after six months is not good. I like the first option, save what u want, but things should not be deleted for us, that should be up to the artist. Please take that out.

Anonymous said...

the first rule is okay.

I HATE THE SECOND RULE!!!!

DONT DO IT PLEASE!!!
I AM BEGGING YOU!!!
do not do it.
i will start a protest.
or i will quit using polyvore. DO NOT APPLY THE SECOND RULE!!

Anonymous said...

the first rule is reasonable, but i'm no fan of the 6-months rule. i think i'll use some of my older items again and i don't want to search for them again. this takes too long and it would really frustrate me.

Anonymous said...

i like it. but i do go use my old items. maybe you should make a tab will items that people might not use in 6 months and if they still want to keep it than just let them keep it.

katie+nickj.=love said...

i don't really like either :( i like things done fast and easy, like automatic saving lol. please don't put this rule in effect!

Anonymous said...

i hate both of these rules 1. because sometimes i acciendently hit buttons on my keyborad i ment not to & it goes back a page & now with rule #1 it will be gone forever & i wont even have the iteams i need anymore
2. when my account gets to 6 months old there will be some iteams i luv just getting thrown away that sucks! also there was this girl & she made a set out of all of her old items & it turned out to be a really cool set so by inforcing these rules you are cutting off are creativity
& if you really want to help why dont you make the my iteams section easier to navigate like add a search by colour option & search by website & what the iteam is you know like the all iteams pages
i hope you read my comment & give it some thought

marr said...

i like the rules! the only problem is, i have some items that i organized for Roleplays, and i dont want to lose them! i think it should be items that are untagged/unused for 6 months are deletd

I think we should at least be 8 or nine months but everything else is fine

i don't like the 1st rule. i think it would be a HUGEE pain to have to have an item every single time. i find items verry often that i love and use a lot more than once and i don't want to have to save every single item. WHAT A PAIN!! im not so sure about the 2nd rule either ...like others have said its very easy to forget about items that you love and when you remember you have them and go to use them you see that its not there and have to go find it again.]

Dani Ze Flying Lemon said...

i don't mind the first rule but i dont like the second. i spend HOURS going through items and saving them for later use. i dont want all of my hard work erased!

Anonymous said...

i agree with the first non autosaving part, but i'm not so sure about the six months auto delete...

Anonymous said...

NO! I don't like either of the ideas. Sorry, I just love my items, even if I don't use them. It'd be nice if there was an option for those who like this proposal. Maybe a setting to delete them. I also love the automatic save. I do have a suggestion though. I'd love it if there were three automatic places to store items. One for all items, one for those that have not been used and then ones that have!

Anonymous said...

I absolutely hate the 6 months rule.
What's the point? I mean seriously. A lot of stuff I've already used and i just love them. I organize and go through my stuff a lot, but some I still have to use (but I don't know what for yet) and others I could use over and over again.

Please please please just keep it as it is (otherwise I'll probably make pointless sets with all of my stuff every 6 months).

Anonymous said...

mmm... I don't know about both points... I don't think it'll work, at least not for me...

Anonymous said...

Isn't there any way to make these rules *optional*, at least?

Anonymous said...

I'm not completely sure what to think of this. I reuse some things, but usually if I want to reuse something, I reuse it a while after I originally use them. I think that this change should not be put into effect. If people think that they're closets are becoming too bloated, they could just delete what they don't want anymore.

Along with most of the other people who left comments, I really don't like the six month rule. Quoting the first person (anonymous) "some of us have so many items that we forget what great items we have that we haven't used due to not organizing! Like finding a great pair of shoes you bought months ago but stuck in the back of your closet to wear.."someday"It would be unfortunate to go looking for those shoes and find that someone "threw them out"" and the third person (anonymous) "I reuse items often- maybe not clothes, but accent items that make fashion sets more interesting, and items that I consider "tools" in building artistic sets. Every time I publish a set I go through all the items (from the set page) and delete what I no longer want. It takes just a few minutes! Why can't people do this rather than make us suffer these changes? And if you really want to help, do this- make it so that when you're "organizing items" you can actually SEE the item! I am not in favor of the six month expiry.
I completely agree with the first person's comment.
As for the first rule, I didn't even know it automatically saved... so that isn't a big deal.
Please, please, PLEASE do not put the rule of six month expiry into place.
As for the "last season,"... most of us don't care about "last season,"'s style... we have our own. This is a free site, we can't complain too much, but I LOVE this site, and would LOVE for it to pretty much just stay the same...
Please...

Anonymous said...

I'm glad that some changes are being made because it is difficult. I'd like to see better tools to organize. I like the "save to my items" as i use them type of thing. I would hate to go in and "save to my items" every different item i wish to re use- but i guess i could compromise that. However, the 6 mo. thing i agree with- it's harsh- i could also deal with that if it NEVER deleted unless you deleted items that you uploaded. I wouldn't want to lose items i uploaded! and have it say someone else did! Please consider :] Thanks! & Great job Polyvore! Luvv ya.

Oh my gosh please dont do the 6 months thing! And don't erase our current saved items list either! The 6th months thing is just a waste of our time and we would have to go back and search for everything again.

I don't like either rule! I don't think that my items are that disorganized. And anyway if you want to organize the items why don't you add a feature that organizes them by type, color or date. It's going to be very annoying to click the "Save to my Items" button every time. I like the items in my set and reuse them all the time, so It's going to be very obnoxious. Also, the second rule...What's up with that? If somethings in my items, it was put there for a reason and I want to keep it there! Even if it's not one of my top used items, I still want to keep it. I love my items and don't want them gone!

If these rules are put in affect, I will be very angry and annoyed. Please re-think your decision!

i like alll of thiss exept for the six month thing. i save some items i wannna use later but i forget about them for a whilllee. then later when i find them i use them.
sooo i dont like the idea of the six month rullee. other than that sounds grrreeeaaatt.

Anonymous said...

I think you should make it optional whether or not someone want's to organize their My Items section. As for the six months rule, that seems ridiculous. I think that should be optional as well,or just don't use it at all.

Anonymous said...

i just want to be able to reorganize my item if i mess up on them but i don't want me stuff deleted if i don't use it in six mouths

i dont like the 6month expire date, cuz some of us just 4get, then we wont be able 2 make an awesomely awesome set with them if u delete them :(

Allison said...

I, like others,am not so sure of the six month expiration. I use Polyvore as a replication of my actual closet and would like to keep things in "my items" even when they go out of season. maybe a voluntary "clean out your closet"day. were members clean out their "items" they aren't using.

well, i think the same...sometimes, i save a lot of items that i find cute to create sets with them later...there are some of them that are so cute that i would like to keep it!!....also,i want to ask why if i won a 3rd place in a contest, it doesn't appear in my profile??....i'm "keylarosas" in polyvore!!..thanks!

TamairaG said...

I love the first idea....there's not really a reason to automatically save *everything* you've already used....plus I normally use right up to the 50 item limit...so that's alot of clutter by the time I'm done! (how about changing that limit? eh? EH? hee hee)

Hate the last part. I save alot of things for a reason....I don't want to be forced to use it so it won't disappear. I'd rather that not happen.

But yay for the other stuff! :o)

Anonymous said...

i dont really care about the 1st one but the 6th month one isnt really fare bc u never no wats there and u might need it again.

i love the first rule, but not the 2nd one. sometimes i find this item (usually shoes) that i know i want to use in a set, but i just don't have any inspiration for it at that moment. i like having it saved so i can come back and look at it at different times.

Photogeek said...

I don't like either of the new things. I like to see what I've used in the past. Also I like to use items I've used in the past. Please please please keep it the way it is!

Isha said...

I really don't like the second rule for reasons that people have already mentioned and i'm not completely opposed to the first rule, though I did like the autosave feature--it made things a lot easier.

I think it would be better if we could search within our closets, like we can outside of our closets.

Lily said...

these are not organisational tools, they are purging/prevention tools. that is not what is needed the most.

Anonymous said...

I think it would be a GREAT idea if instead of having to click the across (>) button, to go to say, page 10 - you could type in '10' in the box. it takes too long to get to the end page, with everything having to load.

Anonymous said...

I really don't like either rule. Honestly, I like having the auto-save. It saves time and effort, seeing as I reuse items pretty often. It would be really irritating to have to either go through my sets or through the search to find an item I already used that could have been easily saved to my closet. I can atleast understand the helpfulness of the six month expiration period. I mean, I have no need for a pair of shorts to stay in my closet in the middle of February. But I prefer being able to choose what is in my closet, rather than having items removed just because I haven't found a way to use them yet. I really do not think the system that we have now is bad. I don't really understand why people can't just maintain their own closet by keep the things they want and delete things they don't.

It's nice that you're willing to make changes, but these changes are kind of severe. How about a way checlist asking what you do or don't want to save right before you publish a set. It could be similar to the group checklist. Pretty horrible suggestion but it's a less severe change.

Anonymous said...

I like these changes...HOWEVER....I think the items we save should stay until we decide to delete them, OR could we at least get a message to warn us which items are to be deleted so we have a chance to re-save them if we still want them? Also, are the items we currently have going to stay there or be deleted? I would hate to have to rebuild my stock if I were to lose everything I have now...

alyssajune said...

i don't really like this idea. i like reusing a lot of my items. you should make an option that says delete from my item. tada! and you should have people make categories in the my items so they know what they're looking for.

Anonymous said...

I'm not liking these rules. Like others commented, I reuse a lot of my items and collect my closet for inspiration. Just because I don't use them, doesn't mean I'm not inspired by them. I really don't see how hard it is for those that are bothered by the clutter not to just clean out their items on a monthly basis. If I can take time to organize my items so I can see them, general you can take the time to delete those items you no longer want saved. I hope these rules are a profile option and not forced on everyone.

Anonymous said...

Not a big fan of the new changes. Especually loosing things after six months. I would like to get to get to my saved items easier, not loose them.

SadieSue said...

Like pretty much everyone else, I love the first idea (though I already save everything to my closet anyway) but I don't like the second. Some of the items in my closet are spring/summer things that won't be used for a while or are things I haven't figured out how to use them yet but that doesn't mean I won't eventually. My big issue is the loss of the 'browse' button - it used so easy (just one or two clicks) to look for something to go with an outfit but now it is several clicks & scrolling. Bring back Browse! (please)

well i like it i don't like it when the items save automatically because that is just annoying..but i also don't like the six month rule because someo of us would have at least twenty pages of items that we don't use but they won't be deleted until six months.

Anonymous said...

I am not sooo sure about to whole 6 months things! but other then that im fine!!

Anonymous said...

I really hate the idea of the 6 month thing! I love looking through all my items a while after i've used them. I love the auto save it's a great thing to have because I don't have to click anything. But, I could do the extra work. I just really don't like the 6 month thing!!!

Anonymous said...

im not sure about the 6 month thing either

i have a lot of items and the best ones are usually the oldest ones!!

i dont want to loose them
just incase i need them

Anonymous said...

ahh i dont think you should so the 6 month thing at all! and for the auto-save thing, i vote for an option to use that feature, so people who want it can use it and others not

Anonymous said...

I don't like the 6 month thing at all. I don't always want the items I've used saved, but most of the time I do. Maybe instead of just making these changes for everyone, you should impliment them as options.

Anonymous said...

i use a cigarette from time to time... i have these sunglasses that i love to death and don't want it go away. i think there should be a place to put things that we want to keep. like put them in a "box" for easy access. so all the items you want to keep put them in there. now i know people don't wanna search through they're items but hey i don't know. but this gave me an idea to delete items i don't want, now.

Anonymous said...

I don't like the rules because I have items more older and I don't like lost them

Anonymous said...

Not sure that I like the 6 month rule.... I tend to go through my items every so often and reuse some really old stuff. Instead, how about a dialouge box that pops up with stuff that hasn't been used in 6 months that ASKS you if you want to delete it?

Anonymous said...

i don't really like the six month thing. the rest is pretty good i guess. just like if you started to throw aways our real clothes that we like.

sarahsaurus said...

I've got to agree with the majority here: first rule doesn't bother me, but I could live with it, but the second rule is just a pain to those of us who store items for later use.

Anonymous said...

I was wondering...why is there a 50 item limit? You should try to fix that everyone hates it. Also, I (and many others) really want a chat room on Polyvore. It's better than having chats through comments that's for sure.

Anonymous said...

I'm not a fan of the first rule either, I tend to use a lot of textures in my sets, it would be a pain to have to go back and save each and every one!

Anonymous said...

i dont like these rules!

meli said...

please please please don't do the sixth month deletion idea! it's horrible. no offense. but for someone, like me, who's busy & doesn't always have time to play on polyvore ... i can't always remember what i save. i'd like to keep everything i save for as long as i want & if there's anything i don't want, delete it myself.

:( please don't do it.

Haley said...

NONONONONO!!! i don't like this one bit, sorry Polyvore. i like how all my items get saved and i definately DON'T want my items to disappear. i'll still like them after six months. You need to do something where you can shut this feature on and off. that way ppl can have it the way they like it. if ppl want this new thing all they have to do is switch it on, but if u want it the way it is now u can switch it off. pleasepleaseplease make it like this.

JO said...

I do not agree with this, especially the 2nd rule! Please don't do it!

Anonymous said...

Hmmmmmmmmmm good idea the 6 months idea nah because some people in role plays may need the picture later.............

Anonymous said...

that is just wrong if they get deleted we will have to keep replacing them and some of us don't always have time to go on polyvore and then people that don't have time will think what the hell has happen to our items and go spastic and com plane

Anonymous said...

ugh!!!1
i hate the new rules!!
i like to go back and see all the items i used and like use them every once in a while!!!~!
argh!!
i hate these rules!
who complains about stuff not being to clean?????

LoVeBuGjOnAsLuVr™ said...

How about changing the way we organize our items by changing it around a bit. Maybe something that will let Polyvore users create a folder for any category they wish, and be able to drag and drop itams into the files. That would be much, much easier! Please give it some thought. I really do not like the 6 month thing.

Anonymous said...

I definitely like the first rule, but not the second. Some people are likely to forget about all the great items they have used in the past and they will be very disappointed when they can't find them. I really like the first rule however! Please keep the first rule, and change the second.

Anonymous said...

I'm not really sure about the 6 month rule, But I do hate organizing it! I think that we should be able to keep our items, but that if we don't use them in a while, that they should be deleted.
It is a great idea of keeping it organized, but I don't want to find an item, but figuring out that is was thrown away.

Anonymous said...

I like the first rule but not the second

Anonymous said...

I don’t like the six months rule at all. I usually save items I like when I see them and hoard them for later use, that way it’s much easier to find and item to go in a set because they are all items I know I like, as apposed to searching through pages of items to find one thing I like. If items get deleted after six months I can see it becoming much harder and time consuming to make a set.: (

Anonymous said...

I like that idea because I'm an organized person

Anna said...

I LOVE the first rule! I'm not too sure about the six month rule though.

Kristen Gregory said...

I would not do the six month thing.

Anonymous said...

NOOO, I don't like any of those rules. I re-use items, I always do.!!

Anonymous said...

I don't like the 6 month thing either cuz for roleplay i save alot of pics and clothes and don't use them for a while but i will eventually!!!

ÇĹθξ ♥'s ☼&☆'s said...

Please don't delete any of my items or the after 6 mths not used, I work hours and some times days to find the most amazing items.. So that i can use them at a later date, as i will use them and so will the other girls..

Plus all the girls love the uploads i add for us to share..

Thank you

i dont like either.. i like it when you get to save the items from a draft...& the whole 6 month thing is just dumb.&& they can go and delete the items if they wanted to

Anonymous said...

ehhh i dont really like these changes.i am in love with polyvore as it is.

Anonymous said...

its good but i do NOT like the six month expiry thing because if i clipped something and leave it for later use in one of my item groups it wont be there.

Anonymous said...

Loving the fact that items will not be automatically saved, but last season's items are not necessarily junk. The 6 month deletion of the items is indeed harsh for fashion lovers who treasure clothing even if it is last season.

Anonymous said...

I dislike the six month rule. I wish you could type in which page number of items you could go to, and also that the items that are saved are saved with their tags

Laura Denae said...

I'm all for the non-automatic save feature, but I don't know about the monthly experation. I hold on to things that I just don't use for a long time until I get inspiration.

Adams_Girl said...

Yes to the first idea, but no to the 6 months one.

Anonymous said...

uhhh it's okay!?????? i just wanna ask if you could add color to the texts!!!!!!!! thanks cause i really wan2 have color

Hadley said...

I really don't like the 6 month rule.

beth said...

I don't like the six month rule like many have said. I clip a lot of things for future use, just not sure when that future will be.

What I would really like is to be able to organize My Items in much the same manner as the the regular items are organized or the ability to do a search in My Items by tag so I could find that slinky little number I clipped eons ago and now know what I am going to use it for would be great.

Michelle said...

The first rule sounds great, especially since I generally don't use items that aren't already in my collection of items. The second one doesn't sound so great, though if it could be gotten around by going through your oldest items and deleting them and then readding them to your collection, I could probably live with it.

Anonymous said...

obviously the second idea is not such a great one.. but what i would LOVE is, if you could make the items bigger in the 'organize' section.. i can hardly see what im deleting!!

morgiegirl11 said...

I REALLY dont like the 6th months thing, there is stuff I like to use over and over.

Anonymous said...

First things, first...Thank you Polyvore! Thank you for all of your hard work to keep Polyvore fun, accessible and current. We all really appreciate your hard work on behalf of your loyal Polyvorians!!
I am okay with the first change. The little extra effort it might cause would really not be that big of a deal. I really am worried about deleting items after 6 months, though. There are some pieces that I really want to use but haven't found a way to do so. Just because I haven't used them doesn't mean that I don't want them!

Anonymous said...

i do not like these rules. i think its fine the way it is. PLEASE DONT CHANGE ANYTHING!!!

Misery said...

The first rule's great, though if someone's a huge fashion person, and they make a lot of clothes sets, their 'My Items' is like their wardrobe...that way, they might reject the first rule.

As for the six-month thing, I very rarely re-use items, but I still like saving items when I find them cool-looking or just matching my personality. It's more of a scrapbook to show off on my user page than items with an actual intent to be reused.

Overall - I say nay to the second rule, but the first rule is fine. Or even better (I know you guys are busy, and this might make it harder to code), let us pick which of these we get to change on our profile/preferences. Everyone's happy.

Thanks for actually listening to us.

Anonymous said...

I'd like it if we got to choose whether to auto-save items or not. I like the auto-save feature, but I understand why a lot of people don't. So why can't we have the option of turning it off or on?

Anonymous said...

i don't really like either of the new rules much. i actually use the auto-save feature to add groups of things i find that i don't want in the set i'm working on to use later. and the whole "6 month" thing- i agree with what a lot of other people seem to be saying. there are some items that get saved, then forgotten, only to be found again while looking through "my items" months later!

Anonymous said...

I agree.. I am thanksful for the autosave because sometimes i reuse that Item. I actually am not so sure about the 6 months policy. I like keeping items in my closet, and do not really whish to delete any of it. That honestly the point of keeping stuff in it.

mayaellewood said...

I'm completely AGAINST THESE CHANGES! I only use items if I really like them - so keeping them in my closet is a MUST for me. And 6 months?! What if a trend comes back and that little black dress that was so-last-year becomes suddenly totally-this-year?! Come on!

Anonymous said...

i think the items u use should be deleted but the ones u put as save to my items should not be deleted

Anonymous said...

I don't care for either rule. It really is not hard to delete the items you know longer want on your own. Think of it as cleaning out your closet every season. Like a real closet there are items that you want to keep forever.

Anonymous said...

i like the first rule but im not so happy with the second one.....sometimes i save items because i just like them but i dont want to use them in my sets and i wouldnt be so happy if they just disapered

Anonymous said...

Could there be an option in the polyvore account settings if we want the changes to take effect?

The fact that I can find older items, from past seasons, that might not have been used by other members as much as the latest, new season items is something I really like. Sometimes it takes a while to put an item to use.

It would be nice if we could filter our items by colour and have "favourite" tags for items used most frequently like "dress", "shoes" from our items (similar to the layout when searching All Items)

Anonymous said...

I dont like the '6 month' rule. What if we dont make a set we need it for but then in 6 months or 7 months we make a set we need it for and we cant find it again. The other idea i like though

Anonymous said...

I think we should have a choice if we want to save items that we've used because sometimes that's the easiest way to save an item by putting it in a draft. As for the second rule, not so sure about that. I often forget what's in my items and i love going back to look through them and see what i can use. Like the first one, i think you should make it optional for the closet to be cleaned out after you've had an item for six months and just let the user know that it's been there a long time, so it's up to them

Lacey2894 said...

I think the first one is good..
but the six month thing isnt good cuz sometimes you save things
and plan to make a really good set
with but you either forget about.. or are trying to get other stuff done first and it would suck to be
looking for it and its suddenly not there

~pinkie~ said...

The changes don't bother me at all because i don't like re-using items- i like to make each set completely from scratch- but could you make the options available to those who like to manage and store their items perhaps? That way we'd all be happy little campers! My 'closet' did get extremely bloated when i first joined, and i did think it was a pain to have to sort through it all. I'm now in the habit of doing the maintenance straight after each set, but would prefer to have them automatically deleted, and only save the ones that i've found along the way for future use.

Anonymous said...

Personally I like the sound of the changes... I hate how my items get so clogged up so quickly... I do agree with somebody who requested that items be hidden from view until we've used them however.... or items only being visbile to other users next to the completed set.

Fawn said...

Okay, I'm not sure I understand the first part because the only thing in my list is stuff I've saved or clipped anyway. LOL. However I TOTALLY don't like the six month part. I have a lot of stuff I haven't used yet even though I clipped it a while back. This doesn't mean I never will just that I haven't done so yet. I read some of the other comments and I have to agree. I reuse a lot of stuff so if you delete then I have to go and find it again or do you mean to delete it from polyvore completely? Because that would be really terrible. I think a good way to help us with the organizer would be to offer a color chooser in My items and tag categories like when you click on the All Items tab. This would be VERY useful. Also larger thumbnails in the organizer would be a HUGE help in deciding where you want to put them and what you don't want anymore. Please please don't do the automatic deletion. This would be a tragedy for me.

Jamiekinsx3 said...

I dont like the 6 months deletion.

Otherwise its fine...

Jamiekinsx3 said...

One more thing..

How about an option on your profile that says

"do not save all itmes"

Anonymous said...

i actually think this is a good idea i dont thinki need to keep everything tht i have ever used

lauren said...

no no no don't keeep the second one.

the first one, i think you should just let people delete what they want.. if they don't want it, they can get rid of it.

but keep the stuff past 6 months. i like reusing things as seasons changeee.

rosizzle said...

it seems alright...it's better than like searching through about 40 pages of items! hahaha but the 6 month rule thingy... sometimes we want to use like things a lot... not clothes but like the accesories cause they r just too adorable! :D

Anonymous said...

I think it could be pretty nice, if it was possible to 'move around' your saved items, so you could but them in order, for eksample gather all the purple items after each other, or things from a certain webside etc.

-♥--anna christine :) said...

I ALWAYS re-use my items, and I'd like to keep them where they are!

Anonymous said...

The first one is ok but the 2 rule is bad! I mean i know people would like there items to be deleted but there could be something that i haven't used in 6 month but i now want to use it, then i wont be able to find it any where cause im terrible at finding certain things! I'll take the time to look through my items, so if someone dosn't want some of their items than they can get off their lazy butts and delete it THEIRSELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

susan said...

i like this

Anonymous said...

The six-month expiration thing is really stupid, because I like to go back to things I haven't used in a while. The auto-save rule is okay. I don't see what's wrong with the old system...

Anonymous said...

D: I'll cry if I loose items after six months. I save stuff in advance and if I go to find it and it's gone... I'll have to start all over again.

Can it be optional? Like... a choice in our 'edit profile' feature or something?

.... PLEASE? <3

Fawn said...

Also I noticed that someone said something about maybe just removing untagged items. I think that is just as bad. Sometimes I leave things untagged because I'm just not sure where to put them, but I guess maybe I'll make a miscellaneous folder to keep them in.

Anonymous said...

i like the new changes!!!

Anonymous said...

The first rule I am cool with but please don't take away my older items! I go back and try to use things but am sure that I miss using some that I really do not want to lose.

Anonymous said...

I love the first idea. But the 6 month expiry I'm not too fond of. Most of the stuff I clip from other sites or save I usually end up using sometime.

Anonymous said...

btw - I would happily use my Polyvore ID on here but cannot keep track of two or three IDs for one thing

I love this! Finally, I'll have better organized items. I upload a lot of pictures and it's hard to find them sometimes. Thanks!

Anonymous said...

i think its a good idea...but i think it shood b saved if u use it

Anonymous said...

The first change seems like an excellent plan. However, I do not like the second change, I would not be excited about items from my closet deleting after a certain time period. I enjoy hanging on to my classic pieces for when I feel inspired.

Anonymous said...

i DO NOT support these changes at all. i lik ehaving my items there so i can reuse them. i don't want them to be deleted. and the 6 month thing, well that's just stupid.

kayleigh.luvs.u said...

hmmm i think this sounds good =) buttt i think you also put a button on when u pic a picture and when u just click on it when ur making a set, it should have a 'save to my items' button so that u dont have to go to the actual item description thingy where it says who uploaded it and all that stuff =D

kayleigh.luvs.u said...

i think that sounds good =) but i do think that u should put a button on where it to where it says 'save this to my items' when ur making a set and u just click on the item instead of having to go to the page about the item where it says who uploaded it and all that stuff =)
thanx for considering this =)

Alexzandra said...

I think that perhaps a more organized closet, one that's searchable, or organized by category would be great, but I'm not a fan of these new rules. The first one I could work around but the second seems awful. Just because I don't use something often doesn't mean that I don't want to keep it. I think it's better to have people sort their own closets rather than tossing things out for them.

Anonymous said...

Oh, this isn't good. I LIKE both of the features THE WAY THEY ARE. Please, please, don't change it.

Anonymous said...

I like the 1st rule...
But i don't really like the 2nd one.
I agree with what others have said about it.

Anonymous said...

i actually hate both of the ideas. the only problem that i have with my items is that once you've got over one, two... hundred pages of items, it would be nice if you could organize them like you can when you're creating a set. (you know that option on the drop down?) that would be great to see on the main page for items!!! please consider it!!

Anonymous said...

I'm okay with the first rule...it was kind of handy having the dress I liked or these shoes automatically saved, so that "I know I used this shoes in a set one time, where'd they go?" But the second rule HAS TO GO. Some of us forget things, but will then stumble upon them randomly one day. Please delete the second rule at least!!

Anonymous said...

I don't like the idea of 'cleaning out the closet' after six months. I have plenty of crap in My Items I want to keep.

maloohree said...

I would like it if we could choose to have our items deleted in 6 months. I personally don't get on polyvore as often as I would like, so I would like to keep my items. Also, I think we should choose when we save the set if we would like to save certain or all items for future use.
