Interview with ♡nadiya is a trendsetter ♡

nadiya's birthday is the 23rd Today's interview is with Polyvore member ♡nadiya is a trendsetter ♡, who is a 19-year old college sophomore. Nadiya's sets are often inspired by celebrities (especially James Franco), shows and music lyrics, which she depicts beautifully through fashion. Here's a look at some of her contest-winning sets:

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Nadiya, born on the 23rd of October 1988 so that makes me 19. I've been in college since i was 17, my major being English. I want to get my PH.D in that subject following my father's footsteps. I have a very beautiful family that i enjoy being with as much as i can, they mean the world to me. They support me in everything I do and I appreciate that very much even when I make unnecessary James Franco sets <- sorry mom!! I love you! :]

Describe your sense of style/fashion.

I love simplicity but I love bold pieces to mix it with. Mostly it all depends on the season. I wear scarves, cardigans and flats year round but the rest is seasonal. In the winter it's ankle boots and darker colors mixed with light colored accessories. In the spring/summer I go with subtle colors with a bit of punch such as yellow or light pinks. I never do neon colors or ultra bright colors for the exception of yellow. I don't like to label myself but I come close to bohemian chic.

How did you discover Polyvore?

I discovered Polyvore on boards.teenvogue.com. Girls were making sets for each other to answer any fashion questions they had between each other they'd send links and one day I clicked on the link and Polyvore came up. It was love at first set! Now all my friends have Polyvore accounts, more than 15 of them and they're all as addicted as I am! My 6 year old niece, Lujane, even has one and she makes the cutest sets, she's probably the youngest on Polyvore.

Tell us a little about what you use Polyvore for and why.

I think Polyvore is the closet I've dreamed of having. There are ENDLESS possibilities to outfits, rooms, abstract designs and a lot more. I am still amazed, after 9 months, how many possibilities one top or a pair of pants can have. I love how different everyone's sets are and how people use them for different reasons. I enjoy looking at other Polyvorians' sets and seeing their mindset on a set, if that makes sense. I am amazed at how girls as young as 12 can make such fashionable and stylish sets! Also because I have met such GREAT people on Polyvore that make me laugh endlessly. It's so nice to meet people from other ends of the world that have the same taste or style as you do. I find that fascinating when a person from as far away country that I've only heard about can have so many things in common with me.

How much time do you spend on Polyvore per week?

Ah, the dreaded question. Too much time.

Describe your set creation process. Where do you get inspiration for your sets? How do you pick a theme? How do you find your items?

I have to have an idea in my mind about a set I'm making whether it's a scenario, lyrics, or colors. I think of stories in my head and try to reenact them onto Polyvore. I listen to a big variety of music and whatever lyrics are stuck in my head I play it out on the set. The sets that I create are very personal to me; they're all interpretations of what I feel or am thinking about. One may comment or take a look at my set but they will not look at it the way i do or feel the same about it. Not everyone sees a story in my sets like I do even though there are no words or hints. We can all be looking at the same set but we all interpret it differently. I also go through phases on here, I've noticed. My first phase came during the fourth month I joined; I went into the male model phase where I'd center my creations around male models. Then came romantic stories I made up and added lyrics, after that I really got into dresses, when I was over that I got into finding the outfits celebs wore and copying that onto Polyvore, now I'm into romance and colors like creams and lighter shades. Also darker sets with darker colors. But I always love making James Franco sets, collages and sets based on shows & movies I love. Who knows what's next!

What are your 3 favorite sets of the ones you've made?

Got any feature requests for the Polyvore team?

Yes. Just a few. Please let us alter our profiles into different fonts, colors and sizes, maybe even add music to make it extra personal so people online can get to know what kind of person we are through this. I know we don't "own" the items but please give us the option to hide them from others before they are used. I want to be able to archive my wedding sets, my celeb sets, my romantic sets, my James Franco sets in one. Besides that I would like to thank each and EVERY one who joined my two groups on Polyvore. Everyone On Polyvore is a huge success and I am proud to say that there are more than 8000 people and Glamour is so alive with almost 2000 members! Thank you thank you thank you! And for every person who took the time to look at my sets, comment, or favorite! It means so much to me!

Hi Nadiya! It's me again! Your fellow Francophile!
I joined Polyvore & created my first set! This is so much FUN! Thanx so much for telling me more about it! Come & view what I made! I'm signed on as DTrent. Please give me some suggestions on how I can do better. Like where do I get the little "Polyvore.com" you have at the bottom of YOUR sets? If I have more Q's, can I hit you up?

- Later!

that hide the items suggestion is absolutely absurd. i think, its such an ugly thing to say. "don't steal my items from my items list!" honestly, people it's like greed. its discussing.

I love your sets. I think you have a great talent and love that you have a specific inspiration for each piece you place with another.

I do disagree that items shouldn't be hidden. I mean, I hear people all the time talking about how people have copied their "style" or "look", but isn't that the largest form of flattery? Someone likes what you do enough to use it themselves.

Aside from that, great work, keep it up!

Much love,

Perhaps you meant "discusting"? And I personally don't see any problem with it.
