Polyvore's New Look

Today we launched some big changes to Polyvore!

New Shop Page

To help you with your holiday shopping, we've created a brand new Shop page that showcases all the hottest products and the latest outfits, as chosen by the Polyvore's huge community of fashionistas. Everything on our shopping homepage is a direct reflection of what you guys think is hot this season, as opposed to what a small group of magazine editors have handpicked. So if you think ruffles are going to be the hot trend of 2009, make sets filled with ruffles and tag them with "ruffles" -- our algorithms will scan all the tags created by the community and automatically compute what trends are hot. It's fashion by democracy!

Browsing by Brands, Tags, and Store

Another new shopping feature we've introduced is a better way to navigate and browse all the great content on Polyvore. You can browse by brand (we love Christian Louboutin and Marc Jacobs), store (did you know eBags.com is having a 10% off sale right now?) and trend (plaid is hot this season). These pages allow you to quickly browse many larger-sized sets all at once.

Buy Buttons

We've also been getting a lot of feedback from users who were confused about whether they could buy items on Polyvore or not. So, to help you distinguish between items that are buyable (meaning you can click through to the store and buy them) and items that are just images clipped from blogs or photo sites, we've added "Buy" buttons to the site. Note that these buttons will only appear in cases where we're pretty sure the item is buyable (we decided to be conservative about it). We may not always be right, but we've tried our best to automatically detect if an item is buyable. If you see a lots of problems with the "Buy" buttons, let us know by sending us some examples. We'll be continually working on improving this feature.

Special Sections for Art and Interior Design Sets

We love Polyvore's artists & interior design enthusiasts just as much as our fashionistas & shoppers, so we've created special sections on the Explore page dedicated to the Interior Design and Art & Expression categories. We've also added category filters to set search so you can find art and interior sets more easily. Please make sure to classify your sets correctly when you publish them, so that they show up in the right section!

Finally, here's a recap of some of our other recent changes that we never got around to formally announcing on the blog...

Music in Sets

We noticed that a lot of people were creating sets inspired by music, so we decided to officially support it. Now you can drag & drop albums into your sets by clicking on "Music" in the All Items tab of the editor. The songs will appear in a playlist on the right side of the set page under the title "Soundtrack". For example, check out this set inspired by Katy Perry's "Hot & Cold". If you're big into the music scene, we suggest you join the Song Titles group or the My Music Feeling group.

Improved Site Speed

Over the past few months, Polyvore's traffic was growing so quickly that we were running out of capacity on our servers, causing pages to load more slowly. So we've upgrade from managed hosting to running our own servers in a data center. You may notice a few hiccups here and there as we work out all the kinks in the new system, so we apologize in advance and thank you for your patience. Overall though, the site should be a lot faster than it was previously, especially search and the activity feed page.

As always, we love hearing from you guys, so please leave a comment in the blog if you have feedback or suggestions. Your input means a lot to us, so let us know what you like or dislike about the changes.

Happy Holidays from the Polyvore team!

Stop right there. If you shove any more of that "BUY BUY BUY" crap around the site, I'm gonna leave immediately. I've seen it been done too many times before.

I'll definitely use the site if I want to buy something, but don't bother me and plant advertisements around when I'm just surfing.

personally, i don't like it very much. it seems commercial and confusing. but i guess, majority rules.

first of all, thanks for this amazing site.

second of all, there's just a couple things i wish we had in the editor. it would be great if we could have a rotate tool and also an undo tool. especially the undo, because sometimes i move the wrong item by accident and then i have to figure out exactly how i had it placed!

Thanks again :) Happy Holidays!

Love the new changes.

Just wanna ask how can we get more music in the Polyvore music editor?

Thanks!

I just love the new features, and look forward to exploring them. I especially like the way that you can browse multiple sets in a much quicker way.

Keep up the good work. I really appreciate you guys!!

I don't like it its to commercial. I hate how you see popular sets now. Getting a my profile page back and recent sets like many others have said would be good.

sorry for my bad english ... but I have a problem with the choice of music only in this last period.
I can not hear the music at the stage of choice, I think it blocked the tasto''play''
so I hear the music only after it published a. .. but not before ...... this is a problem arose only a few days ago, before everything was ok, can you help me?

Would you please re-add the Recent Sets, Up and Coming Sets? There are SO many wonderful sets out there that are not on the "Popular Sets" for the sheer fact that they don't have as many contacts looking and favoriting them. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!

I would love to have the option of searching all of my saved items by color, just like we can search all the items. Also, it would be nice to have back the option of saving an item right from someone's set, instead of having to go to that item's page. Another feature I'd liek to see would be to be able to group our sets somehow, like the was "sets" are on Flickr. You'd have to come up with a different name, obviously.

I definitely second the suggestions about rotating images, an undo button, and the "my profile" button in a more prominent place again.

Polyvore, I truly love and appreciate this site! I understand your need to advertise and you've created a new exciting format. I do have some suggestions. I would bring back the "my profile" tab. Its the set makers and artists that make this site exciting. Let's make them feel appreciated! Also, the recent popular sets page should be easy to access. Set makers love this page. I'm not so sure I like the "create your own set" feature as is. There is enough plagiarism already. And, users need more powerful editing tools as undo, rotate, color code and automated categories. Thank you for your superb work! Engreida

Hey!

First I want to say I love Polyvore, and I think the changes are great! But I would love to see up&coming sets and recent sets come back!

I would also like an undo, rotate and crop feature in the set editor. It would help a lot!

Great site :)

overall I like the new changes.

I think you should add a search box to out saved items tab so we can just type in what we want, like shoes, and all the shoes we have saved will come up. it'd be soo easier and make me very happy. xD

ok, i'd like to start by saying that i love polyvore but the new changes aren't good. i agree with all of the comments on how commercial it is and how now, polyvore is just about shopping. seriously, it's the joy of making sets and connecting with other users that makes the site good but now it just feels sold out. also, there should be more focus on what the users actually want like a rotater tool, undo button, or recent sets back. that's not hard to do. so a word of advice: do something for the users instead of repelling them. if this site gets any more commercial, then i'm leaving. it just feels so corrupted rather than artistic. sorry for being brutal...i really do love this website, but that's how it is.

Its perfect! And you do have a 'my profile' tab. look where it has sing out/up, and near it is ''my profile', just a bit smaller.

Thanks polyvore..

I luv the polyvore clipper, but the kind of music I like (Jpop/Jrock)isn't in the music variety. I wonder if there could B a seperate clipper just for mp3s?
