Becoming an Expert Stylist on Polyvore

Here are some top tips for becoming an expert stylist using the Polyvore editor:

1. New! On the canvas, use the CTRL key to select multiple items at once. Move, resize, flip and flop a bunch of items all at the same time!


2. New! Use the UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys to move a selected item in tiny increments and gain fine control over where an item is placed.


3. Click the "Show Bg" button if you'd like the background of the selected item to appear within your set.


4. Use specific tags in the search box (such as "pumps" instead of "shoes") and find what you're looking for faster. Add terms like "mens," "baby" or "petite" to narrow your search further.


5. Search for items that match a specific color using the Color dropdown.


6. Specify the site you want to search within by using the Site dropdown.


7. Click "New Tab" to create new tabs for new searches. This way you can have multiple panels with different items accessible at the same time.


8. Click once on items in the panel to see a larger thumbnail before dragging it to the canvas.


9. Use the "Center" button to center all the items on the canvas (and get to that far-lying item you may have forgotten was there).


10. Arrange your items in a mostly square area to avoid things being shrunk once you publish your set.

New and Improved Clipper

Today we launched some big improvements to our Clipper tool which will make bringing items into Polyvore much easier.

Once you install the new Clipper (read instructions for bringing items into Polyvore, and see a demonstration), you'll notice that it works a little differently than it did before.



When browsing another website (such as Net-a-Porter.com or Gap.com, or any site you like), click the "Clip to Polyvore" button to open a dropdown in the upper right hand corner. When you rollover the image you'd like to import, you'll see a green border around it and you can click anywhere on the image to select it. Once you click on the image, a thumbnail of the item will appear in the dropdown - add some tags, hit "Import" and you're done!

The best part is that you can now import several items all at once! Your virtual wardrobe will be bursting :)

Go on a Shopping Spree

If you've ever been interested in more than one item within a set, this new feature is for you...

Above the item list, you'll now see a "Browse all" link. When you click it, a new browser window will appear with all the images from the set lined up at the top. You can browse each image from site to site, without having to come back to the set page each time.


A nice little feature to make your shopping sprees easier. Enjoy :)

Improved Search on Polyvore

We just launched a few improvements to our search functionality that should make it even easier to find what you're looking for on Polyvore.

Start at the Top
Start your search at the search box in the Polyvore header. We've made it a bit more prominent so it's easier to find, and now you can use it to refine your searches as well.


Get Specific

In addition to selecting a specific site, you can now use multiple colors and tags in your search. Once you select a color, tag, or site, it will appear in the "Refinements" box. You can keep selecting new colors or tags to narrow your search results further, or if you want more results, click the "Remove" link next your refinements to broaden your search.


Search for Groups


At long last, group search is here! Now you can easily search and browse through groups just as you did with sets and items. With group search, you can discover many sets that match a specific theme, as well as some new Polyvore friends to connect with.

Things That I've Bought That I Love is a great blog co-written by Mindy Kaling (you might recognize her as Kelly Kapoor from The Office).
