Interview with voguevictim

Today's interview is with voguevictim. She's been a Polyvore member for 2 years and has several contest wins to her name. Her distinct style combines clothing and vibrant high fashion images. The energetic layouts she creates look like pages straight out of a fashion magazine!

Here are some of her sets:

Tell us about yourself.

I am 29 years old and live in Athens, Greece. I studied Medical Electronics Engineering in England and also have a Masters Degree in Business Administration. I currently work as a Marketing Manager at our family held business, a Medical Equipment importing company. I've loved fashion since the day I can remember. I regard it as a great way of expressing your feelings and as a fabulous tool to improve your mood and feel great in just a second. I always take time in exploring new designers and upcoming trends as well as follow the whereabouts of classic brands and exclusive houses. I always try to be up to date with the latest tendencies since fashion is constantly evolving.

Describe your sense of style/fashion.

I love two types of looks. I love the "hippie chic" and "rebel chic" look, but occasionally I might create a more romantic look. "Hippie chic" is a bohemian-inspired look great for summer and is perfect for walking down small island alleys being tanned, happy and in love. "Rebel chic" is more of winter look for me and is inspired from going to nightclubs or living on the edge, and being more grungy and sexy, but always chic. I love Rachel Zoe and Patricia Field's work and admire them for encouraging women not to be shy and be glamorous, but yet themselves! I also admire Terry Richardson's photography as I regard his work edgy and contemporary and never missing his personal touch.

Are there any cool trends you've been seeing in Greece right now?

I would have to say that I have seen a lot of girls wearing boyfriend jeans and denim boyfriend shorts. Wedges are a huge trend right now and flat gladiator leather sandals. Regarding bags, Balenciaga bags take the cake this year since they come in so many nice colors and they are being carried even as a beach tote!

How did you discover Polyvore?

I discovered Polyvore through Facebook and thought, "This is too good to be true!" I became a member straightaway but I have focused on it more in the last months.

Tell us a little about what you use Polyvore for and why. What do you like about Polyvore?

The thing that struck my attention most is the sense of endless possibilities and the freedom of fashion expression that is being offered to the user. What also makes Polyvore special is that it provides you access to items of all cultures, prices, state of the art shootings and then offers you the opportunity to blend them and create something totally unique, adding your personal touch. I shouldn't also mention that I have met so many interesting people from all over the world and together we share our passion for fashion everyday.

Describe your set creation process. Where do you get inspiration for your sets? How do you pick a theme? How do you find your items?

I spend hours on Polyvore looking for the perfect dress or the perfect picture. I usually get lost in the "journey"! I am usually inspired by ONE item (this can be either a picture, a garment or an accessory) and then try to accompany it with matching items. I try to give an emphasis to emotion, movement or color in the pictures that I use. I am always keen in adding a quote or a text in my sets. Regarding the theme I sometimes get inspired from my traveling, from fashion icons, from garments, shoes or bags that I own since I do a lot of online shopping. I find my items with a LOT of searching, and combining them usually takes me hours due to my passion and devotion to express my personal style and way of thinking.

What are your favorite online stores and brands you like to clip products from?

My favorite online shops I like to clip items from are Net-A-Porter, Matches fashion, Vivre for their amazing jewelery and accessories, Love Worn for their vintage items, Bag Borrow or Steal for their vast range on bags. I also love Lussori for their exclusive range in jewelery and Christies for their exceptional collection in vintage jewellery and antiques. My favorite brands I like to use in my sets are: Christian Louboutin, Chanel, Missoni, Pucci, Hermes, Balmain, Balenciaga, Milly, Alexander McQueen, Tibi, Sass and Bide, Alexander Wang, Current Elliot, and many many more...

What are your 3 favorite sets of the ones you've made?

It is the hardest thing for me to chose my favorite 3 sets since i like many more! OK here we go.

This is one of my latest sets that represents my rebel side . I can understand that it is kind of complicated and there is a lot going on but I love it to bits and every single item has its purpose... I love Lindsay Lohan and Mary Kate Olsen's style obviously...

This one was inspired by my vacations to the Greek islands and the way I would dress up to have an evening stroll or a cocktail by the sea. It is a "hippie chic" look obviously and I just love it! I love the Greek Vogue cover I found through my endless Polyvore searches. The phrase the magazine cover used in this set translates to "POSITIVE ENERGY" which I find kind of cool. It makes me travel every time I see it!

This one is more "70's chic." I love this Halston dress and the philosophy behind the brand in general. What I also consider an interesting find is the cover of the magazine with Diane Von Furstenberg on it that gives a character to the final result. I just love the color and the way it came out!

Got any feature requests for the Polyvore team?

I am quite happy with the changes made in Polyvore and find the new search tool very helpful in order to narrow down your search. I would love to have an improved feature in order to organize the huge amount of saved items better.
