Guest Blog: Lori's Shoes Discusses Fall's Short Boot Trend

Lori's Shoes is a Chicago-based boutique that opened its doors in 1985. They travel to New York and Milan at least twice a year (each) to source the collections and trends that they love.

We were so excited to find Polyvore, a site formed around the idea of creating a community through a common love of fashion (and some whip-smart technology). We continue to be impressed and inspired by the outfits the Polyvore community creates and shares, as well as influenced (we've had meetings about how to make our photography more collection-friendly for the site!) We think that we're not really selling shoes so much as sharing our passion for the shoes we carry. A good shoe, lovingly presented, sells itself. We feel that same energy and passion on Polyvore. We love letting you be the stylist; show us how to wear it! We're honored to have a chance in this blog to share our excitement for Fall 2009 and beyond!

This fall we are in love with short boots. While over-the-knee styles continue to be huge, the advent of a streetwear-inspired, rock & roll edge has created huge interest in short-shafted boots in a number of workaday styles: combat, cowboy and work boot. While these classic styles are never fully out of touch, this season they are transformed into boots-of-the-moment through lavish embellishment. Pyramid studs, chain, harness rands and riding details abound (and are often intermixed).

These boots are meant for leggings, another trend that got big last year and is set to explode this fall. Leggings are also embellished with sequins, studs, zippers and other punk-influenced hardware. Fall is all about the hemline; short boots and long stretches of color and decoration in the leg let you hone your look into a more daring, fresh, fast-and-loose attitude than with OTKs.

Big sellers online and in our store are Frye’s short harness boot; boots by Vic Matie and, of course, Jeffrey Campbell’s Girl and Girl 2 short cowpunchers, the combat All and the (frankly amazing) Brit work boot with studded sole and wrapped upper.

We’re jumping up and down with glee at how Polyvore fans have taken these styles and ran with them. The outfits and looks we’re seeing are inspiring to us over here at Lori’s. Thanks so much for making our job even more fun!
