Trend Spotter: Trench Coats
Engreida spotted a Trench Coat trend on Polyvore. She says, "Trench coats are amazing as outerwear or a dress, and they've been seen all over Spring 2010 runways!" We love the idea of wearing trench coats as a dress. The Burberry runways displayed this as a hot spring look (below right), but for the winter month you can pair up with thigh high suede boots for a ultra-sheek look!

Trend Spotter: Belted Outfits
βєℓiєvєiηmє♥ spotted a trend of Belted Outfits on Polyvore. Belts are still a great way to add the perfect touch to your outfits. If you want to accentuate your waist line or add some texture to a simple dress, belts are the way to go! Ashley Tisdale managed to glam up her solid dress with a studded belt. And Hayden Panettiere added lots shape to her outfit with a vintage brown belt.

Interview with Crystal85
Here are some of her sets:
Originally, I'm from South Florida, but I'm living in Georgia at the moment. I'm currently 24 years old. I've recently started a new job working in the home office for a major appliance company. I've always been into different forms of creative expression. From the time I was 3 I've been on stage acting, singing, dancing and drawing. In high school I began to draw renderings in Custom Design; this sparked a heavy interest in the fashion world. I hope to become a designer myself and create a line of plus sized clothing for women of all ages. I find it a little sad that there is such a small selection of plus sized clothing, although the industry has gotten much better over the years. I would absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to be on a paid internship for a design house! I'm tingly with excitement at the thought of it. I'm an extremely bubbly person that loves to learn, read, SHOP, cook and bake, did I mention, I LOVE to SHOP! I'm crazy about colors, animals, family, music & movies, not to mention... POLYVORE!!!
Describe your sense of style/fashion.
My fashion sense is as eclectic as my sets. I adore the casual-prep look: cardigans with flats, blazers with jeans and vests with oxfords. I'm not one dimensional though, my mother used to tell me I live in the wrong decade because I like to go thrift shops and go shopping for vintage clothing from the 60s, 50s and 40s! I love the free-spirited, colorful, earthy style of the 60s. The gorgeous swing dress and butterfly glasses from the 50s are beyond awesome! The pin-up girl hairstyles make me smile, and the 40s glamour and patterns are just classic, and I can't live without a good pair of worn-in jeans.
Are there any particular fashion trends that you've been seeing people wear in Georgia lately?
Yes, there are trends I've seen. Basic pieces with extravagant accessories, embellished flats, and leggings with boots.
How did you discover Polyvore?
I discovered Polyvore when I was searching online for dresses for my wedding party.
Tell us a little about what you use Polyvore for and why. What do you like about Polyvore?
I use Polyvore as a creative outlet, a virtual way of living out a dream and as a stress reliever.
Describe your set creation process. Where do you get inspiration for your sets? How do you pick a theme? How do you find your items?
When I'm creating a set I look for inspiration from a single item, whether it be a parfum bottle, like the contest my co-moderator HK Princess and I have recently launched in our group, or a picture or item of clothing. Anything and everything inspires me! Sometimes I even get inspiration from people, things or emotions from my everyday life. More recently, I've been inspired by pictures when I'm creating a themed set. When looking for items I look through the color palettes or if I find an item that I really like, I'd look through other items clipped from the same site.
What online stores and designers do you like to clip products from?
I'm not quite sure to be honest. I clip items from everywhere!
What are your 3 favorite sets of the ones you've made?
Got any feature requests for the Polyvore team?
Yes, more fonts to choose from and a feature that allows the members to adjust the color and brightness of an item.

Trend Spotter: Sequin Vests
Miss Wallflower spotted a Sequin Vests trend on Polyvore. All the glitz and glimmer of our favorite festive look came early this year! Sequins on vests are particularly popular right now, piggybacking on the vest/waistcoat trend that's been big for the past few seasons. For a vintage look, matted sequins or a bead and sequin combination is gorgeous. For a flashier appeal, go for the shine! Miley Cyrus and Mischa Barton were spotted wearing these hot sequin vests:

Interview with Stephanie♥Rene
Here are some of her contest entries:
My name is Stephanie, I'm 23 from sunny San Diego. I graduated from Colorado State in 2008 and have since been working at Nordstrom, by far one of my favorite stores to shop at followed by Revolve Clothing as my close second! I hope to some day be a either a women's or children's buyer for Nordstrom, or be an assistant to some high profile designer or stylist, I'd kill for Brad's position assisting Rachel Zoe. Fashion has always been something I've been passionate about, its my creative outlet, and over the years i've found myself more and more draw into the world of high fashion.
Describe your sense of style/fashion.
My fashion style is really all over the board, it depends on my mood and the occasion. I go back and forth between a more conservative, elegant look, and a more edgy look. Some of my favorite designers include Erin Featherson, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Jeremey Scott, Rag & Bone, Diane von Furstenberg, Pucci, Christian Louboutin, Moschino, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and my latest obsession Vivienne Westwood!!
Are there any particular fashion trends that you've been seeing people wear in San Diego, CA?
I've seen a lot of sequins, sparkle and shine lately, sequin jackets, sequin dresses the more sparkle the better. Also, lots of bling, in the words of Rachel Zoe when it comes to jewelery 'more is more'. I've seen lots of multi-layered necklaces, big rings, and chunky bracelets. There's also been what I'd call a 90s revival of flannel button-ups and lots of plaid. However, my favorite trend of the season has to be the over-the-knee riding boots. Whether you pair them with your favorite skinny jeans for a more casual look or with a great knit dress and some tights for a more work-ready conservative look I think they look so chic and make legs look miles long.
How did you discover Polyvore?
I first discovered Polyvore when a website I like to shop on featured a contest they were having for a chance to win money towards a purchase on their site. I had never heard of Polyvore so I had to check it out. My first sets definitely took some trial and error where I really had to figure out how everything worked and how to clip items to a set, but as soon as I got the hang of it I was definitely addicted.
Tell us a little about what you use Polyvore for and why. What do you like about Polyvore?
I love that Polyvore allows me to express my unique style. I love that I can take the runway styles and trends of the season, all those designer items that I can't always afford to buy, and take those high fashion pieces that inspire me, and style them in the way I would wear them. I also love that Polyvore allows me to network with other aspiring fashion designers and stylists, who knows maybe Polyvore will help me find new and exciting job opportunities working for some high fashion designer :).
Describe your set creation process. Where do you get inspiration for your sets? How do you pick a theme? How do you find your items?
I often find myself inspired by different designers and trends, its almost like certain pieces call to me and I work my sets around those pieces. I've also found my self very inspired by the Polyvore contests, I love the challenge of them!
What are your 3 favorite sets of the ones you've made?
I love this set because of the mystery behind it, it almost tells a story. Not to mention I love the pieces and designers featured in the outfit!
I was thrilled when the Polyvore team added the rotation tool and crop tool which were probably at the top of my list for features Polyvore needed to add, so great work!! My only other small request would be maybe a larger variety of font styles in the text tab.

Benefit Holiday Makeup Tips & Tricks
To help you get in the spirit of the holidays, Makeup Trend Artists Maggie (left) and Annie (right) Ford Danielson have picked a few holiday looks from the Be Dazzling this Holiday with Benefit contest and come up with the perfect makeup tips and tricks for each look. Maggie and Annie are also the daughters of Benefit co-founder Jean Ford.Look #1
Annie: I love the Dallas and the BADgal Plum! I would rock a soft blue smoky eye to play up the blue and gold theme in this look, using Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in Skinny Jeans, a pretty pewter, and Velvet Eyeshadow in Like What You Sea?, a misty blue.
Maggie: For a little lip love, add a pop of color with Lip Gloss in Friends in High Places, a sparkling raspberry shade.
Maggie: This girl has GREAT taste, she is so up to date with her fashion. I would demand that this diva wears a smokin’ eye, and what better to suggest than our Smokin’ Eye kit, which has everything you need for the sexy, smoky look.
Annie: In order to get those glamorous false-looking lashes without all the fuss, add a few sweeps of BADgal Lash mascara. End with a pop of warm coral color to the cheeks with CORALista.
Annie: This girly girl will be sure to dazzle this holiday season. I would see her wearing Posietint poppy-pink tinted lip and cheek stain on her lips for that perfectly flushed look.
Maggie: A shimmery brown eye would look great with this look. I would recommend Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in Busy Signal, a rich brown, with a little bit of neutral Velvet Eyeshadow in Fawn Over Me in the crease. Finish off with our new BADGal Brown mascara for soft, full-looking lashes.
Now that you've gotten advice on how to polish off some great holiday outfits, you must be feeling inspired! So visit the Be Dazzling this Holiday with Benefit contest page now and show us your ultimate holiday look for a chance to win a shopping spree on BenefitCosmetics.com!
Guest Blog: Basics
This time of year we need all the layering pieces we can get and cardigans are no exception. They are a key work wardrobe basic that can be worn with just about anything. We even keep one at the office so that we can still look Workchic when we are chilly. Unfortunately the one we keep on our chair does not usually hold up as long. Before we go any further, take a look at yours and make sure it’s still in professional shape! Now you can also inventory your closet when you get home. We recommend seeing what color cardigans you have and how they mix and match into your wardrobe. Then fill in the blanks. To show you how to style cardigans into your work wardrobe we put together three outfits.
We mixed tones of camel and coral to create this look for your office. It can go more casual with 5 pocket corduroy or to business casual with a trouser cut. This outfit also shows how you can take your favorite sleeveless blouses from summer and work them into winter styles. Just add a cardigan and you are ready to go.
Shades of gray are a hot trend for the season. Mixing in cobalt blue offsets the subtle nature of the look. Layer a cardigan over any dress to keep it comfortable and professional. This outfit is ideal for a business casual office.
Buffalo plaid is all over this season, make it appropriate for work by using it minimally in a scarf. Then pull the color through into patent ballet flats. Here we used the cardigan as a blouse instead of a layering piece. Button it up, tie on a scarf, and layer on bangles. Paired with your favorite blue jeans it is perfect for a casual day at the office.
Now you have seen three chic ways to layer cardigans into your work wardrobe. While a black cardigan is probably a good thing to have, there are many other neutral shades that can update your look. Make sure when you chose cardigans you play to the colors in your closet. Stay tuned to learn more about updating your basics and keeping your work wardrobe fresh with Workchic.com.

You can choose between embedding the set with or without the item list. Here's an example of an embedded set with an item list.

RM by Roland Mouret blouse, $820
Proenza Schouler shorts, $1,375

Improvements to the rotate tool
Last Friday we launched the rotate tool. One of the most common feature requests we received was to add support for Google Chrome, so one of our engineers Kenson spent the weekend implementing support for more web browsers. The rotate tool now works on Internet Explorer 7+, Firefox 3.5+, Safari 3.1+ and Chrome 3+. We also fixed the problem with set images being blurry, as well as some issues with flip & flop in Firefox 3.0.
We love seeing all your beautiful rotated sets!
Profile page changes
Thank you to everyone who took the time to share feedback on the new profile page layout. After reading through all your comments, we decided to move favorites & items to the sidebar of your profile page. This way your profile is mainly about the content YOU create. You can quickly scan through recent faves on the side of the page.
Rebecca Minkoff on Polyvore
If you're looking for a great studded bag, allow us to introduce you to Rebecca Minkoff.Rebecca launched her clothing line in 2001, but when her good friend and actress Jenna Elfman asked her to design a handbag for her next movie, the Rebecca Minkoff handbag collection was born. Her handbags have been spotted on the arms of such celebrities as Agyness Deyn, Blake Lively and Sarah Jessica Parker. And browsing through Polyvore, we couldn't help but swoon over all the Rebecca Minkoff handbags in your sets! Here are some of our favorite studded picks:
Mini cross body bags are in! This black and gold studded Crush bag ($325 on singer22.com) is a hot little number when you need to be hands-free.
We love that the studs on the Stud Devote tote ($695 on nordstrom.com) aren't too overwhelming. It's roomy and functional...this is a bag that can be kept around for seasons to come.
Another cross body bag we adore is the Crossbody Eyelet Rocker bag in aqua. This bag can be pre-ordered for $329 on shopthetrendboutique.com and is available in a few other colors. Love the grommet touch!
