Trend Spotter: Black Lace
Lace is everywhere you turn these days. But MyChanel has particularly noticed a Black Lace trend on Polyvore. She says, "I am loving the return of black lace tights. Great style is in mixing opposites...truly feminine (lace) mixed with a bad girl saucy attitude (black). But don't stop at tights if you love the attitude, black lace can be seen influenced in many pieces from lipgloss to booties. This isn't only a trend, it is an entire black lace revolution." The runways would agree...

Interview with moɴCʜɑɴ℮ʟ ♪♫
Here are some of her sets:
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Maddy and I live in Virginia, about 15 minutes from the Nation's Capital. I don't engage in politics. I am a graphic designer with a penchant for PhotoShop, as anyone can tell. I graduated from The Corcoran School of Art + Design... as did Tim Gunn from Project Runway. I love music, art and design and I also have a passion for fashion and it's industry. I have an addiction to shoes for sure! I also knit and felt things from scarves to hats to purses. I just love being creative!
How would you describe your sense of style/fashion?
My sense of style is eclectic. Links of London rather than Tiffanys. Frye engineer boots rather than Uggs. And black...lots of black. It is my base to splash colors on. There is nothing like signature pieces for a season, but classics are a must. A black faux fur coat, an Hermes scarf, t-shirt and jeans...that is my style for sure. I also have a thing for sunglasses, I have a drawer full of them. This past summer it was the classic Raybans (the 2132/55 to be specific) a la Lady Gaga and now I want the Albert Maysles with transition lenses.
What's hot in DC right now?
Well, in the sea of suits and sequins in the D.C. Metropolitan area...brace yourself. We are getting the real housewives here. We do have surprisingly very upscale shopping here in Northern Virginia. It ranges from Gucci to Neiman Marcus. The hottest looks for sure are retro accessories, sleek suits and sequined cocktail dresses for state dinner crashing. Christian Louboutins are must haves.
What's one thing you wish people would wear more of?
I wish people would wear more fair trade items like jewelry as well as designers using more fabrics made with bamboo. I was amazed at the feel of that fabric! Also, re-purposing clothing for an eclectic splash to something new.
How did you discover Polyvore?
A Google search...I was intrigued from the get go!
Tell us a little about what you use Polyvore for and why. What do
you like about Polyvore?
Okay. It is my new addiction. It is my creative outlet. It is my creative therapy next to knitting. When I first started Polyvore, I had no idea what it was for. I just was like a kid in a candy store! It took me a lot of sets to catch on...but I think I cracked my own Davinci code on how to work with the medium I call Polyvore.
What I like about Polyvore is that it is a way to meet people as well as show off your inner style goddess! A blank canvas, if you will, of any and everything you could ever imagine having in your closet!
If you could share one tip or trick with a new Polyvore member, what would it be?
Just be yourself. Express yourself as you see how the items need to come together.
Do you have a favorite fashion designer who has influenced you?
I adore Alexander McQueen, but my very first remembrance was of a Calvin Klein fashion show video and the music in the background was a woman singing David Bowie's "Heroes."
What online stores do you like to clip from?
Net-A-Porter for sure. Their quality in larger image is totally clip-able and there are so many awesome high end items to play with! I also like Browns Fashion.
What are your 3 favorite sets of the ones you've made?
Okay, I am my own worst critic. This is hard.
I like how this Miley Cyrus set came out... it is hard to silhouette hair! I love the depth it has.
I like the layers and color of this set:
I thought this Barney's Obsession set was a definite challenge... like doing a McGuyver set with two sticks and some bubblebum! And it features my new glasses obsession as well!
What's your favorite set created by another Polyvore member?
I just saw this one and think it is fantastic!
Got any feature requests for the Polyvore team?
How about a 50-100 item private holding bin for graphics you create and clip in for sets? That would also help with contests and mosaic sets! Also, how about a pre-publish view? Other than that, since the introduction of the rotation tool...it's like the seas parting and the heavens opening up!

Trend Spotter: Birkin Bags
If you had several thousands of dollars to spend on the ultimate accessory, what would it be? Well, Engreida has spotted a Birkin Bag trend on Polyvore, so we think this may be a good contender. Liz (Polyvore's recovering shop-a-holic and engineering whiz) would probably have to agree, since she's the proud owner of a Birkin bag herself! Named after actress and singer Jane Birkin, this Hermès bag is a highly desired symbol of luxury and has been spotted on shows like Sex and the City and Gossip Girl. It's also a favorite amongst many celebs.

Tribute to Brittany Murphy
Hollywood lost a shining star yesterday. Actress Brittany Murphy, best known for her performances in Clueless (who can forget her singing 'Rollin With The Homies'?) and Just Married, died at the age of 32. I still remember when Brittany played Molly Morgan on the short-lived TV show, The Torkelsons. Her smile had a way of lighting up the big screen and it's obvious that she touched the lives of so many of you by the amount of tribute sets that have been popping up on Polyvore. Here's to Brittany Murphy...we're sad to have lost you.
