Interview with BM&R:mirela

Clean and chic, with just the right amount of edge. BM&R:mirela perfects the art of less is more. Her signature style includes gorgeous photographs and images of text articles...and lately we've been seeing a lot of floral pieces added into her sets. Get to know this fashion design student in today's interview!

Here are some of her sets:

Tell us about yourself.

Hi! My name is Mirela, I'm a 21-year old from Zagreb (Croatia), where I study fashion design. I am a huge aesthete, I believe there's beauty everywhere. Fashion is my passion, and honestly I don't think there's anything I could do better. I love the arts, design and architecture, especially modern architecture with its socially oriented ideas.

I'm a positive person, trying to enjoy every moment with my friends and family. I'm open to new things, and very optimistic.

How would you describe your sense of style/fashion?

It's funny how much I analyze other people's style, but hardly find words to describe my own. So I asked my dear Polypal, iiina, to give me a hand on this one. This is what she said: ''It's really edgy with bursts of color, and you really like items that speak a lot. And sometimes you get these moods when you use a lot of soft colors, but even when you do that you keep the edgy-ness that's signature to you.'' And she's right! My wardrobe is based on very simple: classic items, skinny jeans, tank tops and blazers, all in black, white, gray, beige or deep blue. So I combine them with bolder items to spice things up. I also adore heels, and I wear them as much as I can. The higher, the better!

What's hot in your 'hood right now?

People in Zagreb follow trends and they do look nice, but I must say they're not very original. Most girls look pretty much the same, wearing leggings, UGG boots and leather jackets (black or brown).

What's one thing you wish people would wear more of?

Actually there is one thing i wish people would wear less of...leggings! And I mean those liquid leather ones, they're so last year! Lol

How did you discover Polyvore?

I had heard of it from another member on a similar website called Fashmatch.

Tell us a little about what you use Polyvore for and why. What do you like about Polyvore?

I use Polyvore as a tool to improve my styling skills and to keep track of the hottest trends all over the world. I don't even read fashion magazines anymore, since I'm already familiar with everything they have to say, thanks to my dear Polyvore. I also met so many wonderful people, who support me and make me smile every single day.

What's the longest it has taken you to make a set?

Usually I make sets pretty fast, especially when doing 30 minute challenges. But the time I first joined Polyvore, I used to make one set for hours, since I changed items and whole concepts all the time.

If you could share one tip or trick with a new Polyvore member, what would it be?

Just be nice, friendly and supportive. And be YOU, don't be a copier.

Do you have a favorite fashion designer or style icon who has influenced you?

My favorite designer is the one and only Alexander Wang. Every one of my contacts know how much I adore his designs and how much he inspires me. I'm a Wangette.

There are also two fabulous ladies who never cease to impress me with their impeccable sense of style, fashion editors Kate Lanphear and Carine Roitfeld.

What online stores do you like to clip from?

I love La Garconne and Net-A-Porter, although I clip more lifestyle items and images from fashion blogs such as The Sartorialist and Jak and Jil. I've recently discovered Afloral.com from where I clip wonderful silk flowers that I love to add as a decoration in my sets.

What are your 3 favorite sets of the ones you've made?

What's your favorite set created by another Polyvore member
?

This is one of my recent favorites. It fascinates me how poetic it is.

Got any feature requests for the Polyvore team?

Hm, chat would be great. :)
