Breast Cancer Awareness Contest: Show Her Some Love

Caring for one another both inside and out of the Polyvore community gives us all strength to overcome challenges. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, stand up to cancer by creating a set to show an important woman in your life - whether mother, daughter, or friend - that you care.

Show her some love! Write a nice note in your set description, submit to our contest, and share your set via Twitter or Facebook. Tweet your set to @polyvore and we'll re-tweet it to help spread the love! We'll also be posting your sets on our Facebook page daily.

Our special guest judge and Featured Style Expert this week is Joanne Teichman (Joanne@Ylang23), Polyvore member and owner of jewelry store YLANG | 23, who is also a breast cancer survivor.

Eight years ago, Joanne found the tiniest lump in her breast. Having gone through false biopsy alarms since college, this seemed no different. But her nurse's words were startling – the tiny lump was non-cancerous, but the bit beside it (which she had never felt) was ductile invasive carcinoma. Joanne opted for a bi-lateral mastectomy and reconstruction, followed by an aggressive chemotherapy treatment. Eight non-cancerous years later, Teichman is busy with Ylang23.com and its storefront in Dallas, and enjoys travel with her family and her camera. She is thrilled to join forces with us and Stand Up To Cancer to shine a light on breast cancer during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Joanne will be picking 10 sets as winners to be featured on Ylang23.com and the Stand Up To Cancer Facebook page. The top 3 will also receive a $100 gift card to Ylang23.com. In addition, Joanne is donating $10,000 to Stand Up To Cancer's groundbreaking cancer research on behalf of the entire Polyvore community, so enter the contest and support this cause!

Such a moving story. I'm glad to hear she is doing well and really glad to help in this cause also. It has to be one of the scariest things to go through. I have and Aunt that is going through those same treatments and we are hoping for the best for her and her family.

The disease is one of the most important fields of medicine, yet it’s devilishly complex and there’s too much information for any single practitioner to keep up with.
