Introducing Templates

There's a new tool in town! We know a lot of you have already discovered our new templates tool because we've been seeing some really amazing template-based sets around Polyvore. But for those of you who haven't, here's the lowdown.

Templates are pre-arranged patterns that you can fill in to make a set. Just load up a template into the Polyvore editor and try dragging items into the placeholders. Templates can suggest themes (e.g. Christmas), pose a question (e.g. What would you wear for a zombie apocalypse?), or provide a guide for a tricky set layout (e.g. mosaics). For example, here's a template that features Polaroids:

And here's a set based on that template, a dinosaur-themed Christmas wish list!

Templates help our newer members get the hang of making sets. Polyvore is a vibrant community of creative minds. In fact, some of you are so talented and artistic that it can be intimidating to our newer members! We hope templates make it easier for our newer members to learn how to make great set layouts. And we're very grateful to all our experienced members who help nurture the newbies by sharing tips & tricks (and now templates!)

Templates make it easier and faster to create sets. We noticed that many of our members who are bloggers and tipsters have a signature set style. Lately many members have also been making cutout-style sets using the custom background tool. By templatizing your set layouts, you can save time and make more sets more quickly.

Templates let you create fun themes and share them with each other. Another way to use templates is to pose challenges and questions to other members. For example, you could ask people to pick their top 10 wardrobe staples, create a holiday wishlist, style a particular item of your choice, or fill out a Mad Libs style template.

Making a template is simple. Just click on the arrow next to the 'Create' link at the top of your page and select 'a template.' Once you're in the editor, click on the 'Add Placeholder' button. Add in as many placeholders as you'd like and then click 'Publish template.' Once it's published, people can create sets based off of your template. Soon we'll be adding a gallery of templates for people to easily browse through the best ones.

The Polyvore community continues to amaze us everyday! If there's one thing we've learned over the last 3.5 years of launching new features on Polyvore, it's that you guys are much more creative than us. We know you'll think of a million unexpected ways to use templates and can't wait to see what you come up with.

As always, we'd love to hear your feedback, so just leave a comment here on the blog.

Love,
The Polyvore Team

P.S. Here are some great example templates and sets based on templates:

I am not a huge fan of templates, but that is just me.

My personal opinion of templates is that they kill originality and creativity. It's unique and cool the first time you see a set made with a specific template, then it becomes dull and boring by the fifth time you see the same template.

I have used a total of two templates. I have decided I will never use another template again. I'm willing to spend an half hour or so rearranging pictures and blanks.

Anonymous said...

I don't really like templates because alot of my contacts just make them and they aren't very creative. I think that making a cropped set requires alot of effort but it is rewarding too. I just think I liked polyvore better without templates.

Anonymous said...

I think the template is a great idea and I have tried one,but it is not a great idea for every member of polyvore to try. I have a vision problem and where as normally polyvore does not hurt my eyes templates causes me to have bad headaches. Maybe you should put a warning up.

Anonymous said...

wow thank you for the explanantion and templates are really cool!

templates are awesome!!!!

Templates are very annoying, because you can't customize your item, only zoom in on it. Also a lot of people use it so you get less faves. Ugh just get rid of it!

MadameMurderess said...

Templates can be really good, or really bad depending on how you use them. The problem is, is that it makes it so *simple* to copy someone.

Anonymous said...

I love the templates! I think they're a really good way to get creative :) Thanks!

PolyvoriansVsTemplates said...

I do not like templates. It takes the whole creative process out of making mosaics. it makes it wayyyy too easy! And the feeling after you've finished an amazing set that took hours?! priceless!

Anonymous said...

I like the templates and I think it would be even better if we could save them like we can items.

Anonymous said...

honestly, I used to actually do templates, while they were still popular. But now, I think they get rid of the creativity and the originality. People work really hard on sets, and this just doesn't seem right. I rather work hours on a set, then "cheat". After I see the same ones, I get bored of seeing the templates over and over.

Abbey. said...

I personally think that templates should be used for only the person who makes them. There's too many sets with the exact same layout, just different pictures placed in the place holders. It starts getting annoying after a while, a variation would be nice. :/ They lack creativity when you're using someone else's ideas.

Anonymous said...

I like them but I think they don't require as much creativity as making regular sets. I don't really see a point to them. That's just my opinion.

Anonymous said...

Well, I honestly don't like templates. People have spent hours and hours on sets just to make the cropping perfect. I love to see people working hard on their sets. And it's very fine if you make your own template and then make a set, but the very fact that people could use the template you made over and over again just doesn't amuse me.

As far as I know, templates are highly unoriginal. You see a set and think "Oh wow that's really nice." and I go and look and it's a template. Then I see another one with the same outline. Aaaaaaaand another one. And then another one. I honestly don't like them. But then again, that's just my opinion.

Anonymous said...

I love the templates! Please don;t take them down because some other members don't like them!I think this is the best update Polyvore has made!

Anonymous said...

My personal opinion is that anybody who thinks templates are going to ~kill creativity~ hasn't seen some of the bland crap that gets churned out every day without touching a template. Please, people. It's a tool just like the custom background.... oh, and those PSDs that none of you seem to have a problem using.

Thanks for the feature, Polyvore, and for finally giving us the lowdown. :P

I am having SO much fun with the templates. I do agree that some of the simpler templates (such as this one http://www.polyvore.com/autumns_glow/set?id=24788671) can get monotonous ... but I love the challenge of trying to do something different with them. I built one to create a set that I used to do with the 1 item challenges (http://www.polyvore.com/quilt_away/set?id=24740392) and can't wait until we're able to rotate an item in the Placeholder -- guess I'll just have to rotate the placeholder instead). I used one of the more popular templates to create an abstract - http://www.polyvore.com/celtic_sun/set?id=24774138 (wish I could have added music). Finally, I made another template (really on a whim) to make a set that I defy you to pick out as a template set without reading my comments - http://www.polyvore.com/world_reflected/set?id=24765561. I believe a lot of folks are on sensory overload due to the huge popularity of the new toy. When things die down a bit, you out to give it another try.

templates are okay. but finding your own set style is the whole point of making sets. If the newer members need help with making sets, they can just message polyvore users whose sets they like. That`s how i learned!

Anonymous said...

it`s good for showing a certain amount of items that you want like a list.

Caitylin™ said...

I love the templates! They provide the clean cut edges that are so much harder to get through custom backgrounding. But I agree that too many people are using the same style which is killing the originality of some sets. Could there maybe be a way so you can choose whether it's a public or private template so templates I make can only be used by me?
And what would be really cool is if there was other shaped place holders like circles or something :)

Anonymous said...

I actually really like the templates. I think they allow just as much creativity as they do not. Making templates for yourself is very rewarding, and there are a lot of possible ways to arrange the template squares. I think it would be even better to be able to use the cropper on templates, or have more shapes to choose from than squares. It would also allow for more individuality to be able to add items over templates.

Anonymous said...

Not a fan of template. They are not origanal, which is the whole point of Polyvore. I for one refuse to like or make any templates.

Anonymous said...

i don't really like templates. i think that if you use them sometimes, it's alright. but if all of your sets are made with templates, it doesn't give you room to get more creative, and doesn't give the people who actually spend time on making AMAZING sets the credit that they deserve.

Anonymous said...

I personally dont see the big deal with templates. I mean, cool. Okay? All of the people who whine and complain about them should stop. Some people like them. If you dont, keep it to yourself and dont use them. Its that simple. So they're easier for those who arent creative or cant grasp how to make a set. And some of them are pretty creative. And SOME of us do spend a lot of time working on them, finding the right pics to match what we're trying to 'say.' Just because you dont understand, doesnt mean you have to post mean comments on someones beautiful template based set.

Anonymous said...

Can you put a border or something around the place holders? It's really hard to see if they are lined up, or if one is higher than the other.

Lucey said...

i think that templates are okay they can be too restrictive but the are pretty good

Anonymous said...

I honestly do not not like templates because hipsters spend hours on cropping items. and i think that its a cheating way out of beautiful art.

Marcia Silva said...

I don't like templates but they can be helpful to start with. :-)

Anonymous said...

I think people are a bit overdramatic when it comes to templates. Like it says it is mostly for the newer members. They might not be creative or original, but if you can make one work and look great, you know you have skills. I haven't used them, because it is not my style. It's not copying if when you put up a set with a template, it clearly says the templates name and everything. If think it is copying, you probably shouldn't use one. I, personally, think it is an OK idea.

lostinthestereo said...

honestly i dont mind the templates the way i look at it is as long as one template is not overused then it is fine. Maybe just makeing one for personal use that is fine it is like cropping a set but when then get overused it is quite annoying!!!! grrrr

I recommend that you provide a link to Jilbert's excellent Wordpress tutorial on templates: http://jilloo.wordpress.com/2010/11/09/how-to-fill-in-a-polyvore-template/ . Templates are as visually interesting as the talent of the people who use them. Sure, anyone can churn out "look alike" templates, but once you get the hang of it there's a lot of room for creativity. I've seen some awesome ones in just the past few days. Oh, and Jess? I think it's nifty that you just tossed them out there with no instructions, for a while, and let use play. Look what happened! We experimented! This is the diference between PV and, say, Microsoft... who would have issued a ten-pound User Guide before releasing this new feature (hee hee).

Anh said...

Well, first, I'd like to thank you for featuring my template as the mosaic one (that was really nice of you) but in truth, templates can make copying sets so much easier for those who would do it. All they'd have to do is find the same template as another person's set, use the same items, and there's an exact copy. I make a ton of real mosaic/cropped sets, it's sort of my thing, and the feeling of finishing a set like that is absolutely irreplaceable.

Anonymous said...

Yet another disappointment. Polyvore is becoming less and less like a fashion website and more like a blog. The templates do nothing but lack creativity and give an easier way to copy others' sets.

Anonymous said...

well you can also make your own template and if you dont like them dont use them

Anonymous said...

i don't mind templates and if im just making a quick set, then ill use one. anyway, i just thought that it might be a good idea to make it somehow easier to search templates? or add your favorites to a collection or something? i dont know, it's just a little annoying to find them.

Anonymous said...

Hmm. Because I really love seeing half my contacts have sets that look almost exactly the same. So exciting.
Now that you posted this, I understand how it could be very helpful for new members.
But remember, way back when, you allowed members to make sets based on other members sets, in which the original would load into the editor. It was copy cat city! This new feature might take more work to get to that point, but frankly it's going to happen.
I tried to make a convincing fashion set using a template, and spent two hours trying to make it look any good. For one hour I could've done a much better just, and not have such annoying placement restrictions. If you're going to keep them, I would suggest a better way for the lines of the squares of placeholders to be visible, because frankly they're hard to see.
But if you ditch them, like a lot of people I know would agree, I think the newbies can figure it out without guidelines. The rest of us did.

Anonymous said...

i CAN'T STAND templates.
they take place of originality & creativity.
it's like cheating in a way.
PLEASE REMOVE THIS.

hermionetwin said...

how do we find templates, besides using ones our contacts have?

Anonymous said...

i hate templates! they take the creativity and dignity out of our art! :(

Anonymous said...

I don't really like templates. Personally, they take credit away from the people who can make amazing sets without using an outline. i think that everyone has a unique style, and trying to make it fit a generic template takes away from it. that's just my thoughts on the matter

I am enjoying the Templates, although the site is bit overrun with them at the moment. I have encountered one problem with them, which I already sent you (Polyvore) feedback about. I thought I would mention it here too so that others can be aware.

Contests on Polyvore do NOT currently recognize a Required Item as having been used in a set If you place it in a Template. I created a set with the one required item in a template and the contest will not let me submit it.

Hopefully Polyvore will fix that soon?

It would also be nice if templates were designed to be treated as items where you could save them, organize them, alter them, etc.

OH cool, I like templates , i will try them. They seem cool and fun to use :) I think it's good for those who just started on poly and have a hard time placing items , by this they can learn and then pretty soon will not need a template, this is nice of poly to think of everyone.

I am curious about the zombie one, lol
Poly Rocks!! I can see these being handy for my blog as well oxoxoxoxooxoxoxoxoxooxoxoxoxooxoxoxox. Love ya Poly Team!

Anonymous said...

I like the templates but I can see why some people don't like them.

Anonymous said...

I think that the templates are a good thing for new polyvorians, but not so good for other people, because it kind of gets rid of the "personal" affect of sets. Now, if you use a template, there could be 9 other sets just like yours, and that just shows that your set isn't very original.

Also, concerning the time it takes to make the sets with the templates--it kind of gets rid of the pride someone feels after they make a set that took them 2 hours, and they get so many faves because they spent so much hard work on it. If someone uses a template, it only takes about 10 minutes, and it isn't very fulfilling to have so many faves on something that took no time at all.

Anonymous said...

This is a terrible idea. This is like, the 'follow' button instead of the 'contact' button.

YEAH, it's that bad.

Anonymous said...

i think i must agree with most of comments here. templates = lack of creativity. at least if one really likes another polyvorian's layout one can learn to create it from another polyvorian's set. since for example it takes hours to create a set in a perfect square form. but i think templates are also good ways for beginner polyvorians to learn lots of great layouts and find their favorites to create their own sets.

Anonymous said...

I don't like templates. There is no creativity to them and everyone does the same ones. And to everyone who said that the people who don't like them and that without them people make bland sets, well that is how you learn. If you can make perfect sets in 5 minutes why would you try to make a real cropped set!? I liked polyvore without templates and if anyone wants to talk to me about their opinion they are free to PM me.

Anonymous said...

I'll just be annoyed if a contest winner used a template. I work hard on my sets and while I can appreciate losing to someone whose ideas just meshed better with what the judge was looking for, I would not be too pleased if the winner had used a template. It kills the creative spirit and the originality of the entries. It would be off-putting to me.

Anonymous said...

I like templates and they are really useful for me, but I wish there was a "search templates" option or something... or that when you publish a template it went to your profile...

Anonymous said...

I don't really appreciate templates not for the fact that people can use the exact same layout, but that they discredit people who actually take time to create the 'cutout' sets. It can take hours to make a cool, original set, freehand with the background tool, but with the templates it can take a person only five minutes. I'd rather have a set that doesn't use a template and gets fewer faves than one that uses a template and gets a million faves. (On the flip side, I think that if the person uses their OWN template then that's fine, because they put time into that, too. But using other's is just not right.)

I think that this is a great idea! Templates help jump start creativity for some. Way to go Polyvore!

i haven't been on pv for very long, but i like the templates and i definitely don't think they kill creativity and originality. just the opposite, using someone elses framework to express your own style and ideas is a real creative challenge! i have also found a great personal use for the template tool: i am making a whole bunch of sets based on hairstyles to use as inspiration for my dressmaking. using my templates makes this so much easier and that gives me more time for the more complicated and arty sets i love to make.

Anonymous said...

templates are not that bad. They help a lot by guiding you through your set.

princess70xox said...

Is there going to a be a link to fill out others' templates? Like similar to using items? I want to be able to access different templates on the same page.

Anonymous said...

I cannot even get my own published template into the editor, nor can I find where they are stored. I am having to keep clicking 'back' to get back to the page of the template that polyvore sent me to after I published......

Anonymous said...

I so dislike this template idea. It takes away from the creativity of polyvore. With templates, this could lead to extremely generic sets that all look the same. When I first started to make sets on polyvore, they were horrible but I learned and now they are my own and express my own creativity. I dislike the idea of just inserting pictures into a generic background.

Anonymous said...

I think they look cool and they're okay for things like tip sets... but i love making those kinds of background sets where i can play around with the pieces, and in a template I can't always do things the way /I/ want, it has to be in a certain outline. They're cool-looking, but the sets don't really have as much creativity or talent

Anonymous said...

Templates ruin originality. Now, people who don't have nearly as much talent as certain members will be getting as many faves as people who deserve them much more than they do. And now, a bunch of sets are going to look almost exactly the same, and it just won't be original, won't be a bunch of different ideas being posted everyday. The only people who are going to get real recognition are the template-makers.

And now, when you see a beautiful set on your homepage, you click it, and realize that it was used with a template. Technically, they didn't do any of the work, just filled in the blank. Or, colored inside the lines.

♥ƙyƪą♥! said...

I'm sorry polyvore but i REALLY, REALLY dont like the templates.... it saps the origiality right out of creating sets... its not a good idea... it makes it way too easy now for people to copy sets and steal layouts. Part of polyvore magic is the hours tallented creators spend on making breath-taking sets. Now with templates anyone could simply use a template drag on a few pictures and voila! they have an identical set! Where is the tallent or creativity in that!?! Seriously polyvore was easy to get a hang of before templates were introduced... hence why there are millions of users. The best creators are the best for a reason... they put in the time and effort to make their sets spectacular. They give new people somthing to aspire to... Introducing the template maker has simply trivialised the hard work that many of us spend on making sets.

Im sorry, i do like some of the improvements polyvore has made over the years but this is definitly not one of them! :( Please, please get rid of it.

Mary said...

Templates are for lazy people with no sense of composition. It's so annoying to see Polyvore supporting the cutting of corners when there should be an emphasis on real creativity within the community. I personally am pretty sick and tired of people who put no time into their sets and this is PV saying "Go ahead! Only work for five minutes and expect recognition!" Thumbsdown. Will affect my usage of the site.

Anonymous said...

Not a fan of templates - but if it's a template that you spent time making and want to use again, I think that's fine...but not for everyone else to use.

Anonymous said...

I personally do not agree about the templates idea in polyvore, because I think it can make our creativity will not evolve. and how about the originality??

Anonymous said...

I love these! People are just weary of change. I do hope Polyvore will focus more on organizing the current (and awesome) features in the near future, rather than continue to add feature after feature at such a rapid pace. More organization for items saved to "closets" (i.e. search options that involve color, keyword, and so forth) and sub-folders for collections would be wonderful. :)

Anonymous said...

No. Just no. Polyvore is all about expressing your creativity and fashion sense, where these templates do that for you. For as long as I've been a member, one of the biggest rules is MAKE YOUR OWN SETS- DO NOT COPY OTHER MEMBERS.
So here, the templates destroy what Polyvore is for. I dislike them because of this. They're a good idea, but NOT FOR POLYVORE.

POSH Powell said...

I think that if you create a template it should not be available for others to use unless you chose so. For example, there should be an option to publish templates, just as you would publish a set. By publishing it you make it available for any and everyone to use. But by automatically making a template available it makes it to easy for others to copy what may be your signature style of making sets.

Anonymous said...

I don't mind them. If new members want use them then that's fine, If I think that they kill originality then I won't use them. :)

Anonymous said...

oh no... more people are going to be copying other people's sets. before long, everyone's sets is going to look the same. why are you encouraging copying polyvore/???? :(

Everybody's making them... but I am hearing some angry sounds around PV too... the true 'artists' say it takes the 'art' out of the whole mozaïc-magic... I can truly understand where they are coming from and I respect their hard work on original mozaïcs, so we need to differentiate between us (casual template fillers) and them (true cutting artists).... I for one know I could never make one from 'scratch', so I AM happy with this new option!! Thanks Polyvore!

I personally think that the templates are very cool. That doesn't mean I'm going to use them on every set I make. It's just another way for some to use their creativity. If you don't like them, don't use them. It's not like Polyvore is forcing anyone to use them on their sets. Use them or leave them. It's up to you. Thank you Polyvore for always trying to make this wonderful site a little better.

Personally, I like polyvore because I can spend a lot of time making a set, that I really love in the end. Every set is different, I think its annoying to make the same set over and over again. With the templates, you don't have to put an effort in your sets, you don't have to be creative for every set. You just once make a creative template and then just fill it in.
The point of polyvore is to be creative and have new ideas!
Templates kill creativity!

Anonymous said...

i'm sorry, but i really dislike the idea of templates. i remember when i used to spend ages trying to be really creative, and cropped loads of items for a set, but now everyone will just think I made a template.
besides, where's all the fun if everything is just pre-made?

I think that the templates are an awesome addition to polyvore but my thing is you can't really just search for templates. It's just posted as a set and I find that a bit confusing. I think it would be easier if there were a new tab under the search bar made for templates. That's just my opinion.

Dollychops said...

I'm half loving and half not loving the idea of templates.

Yes they seem to kill creativity by turning what was a really long and creative process (like mosaics) into something simple and repeatable.

but I can see it as a really useful idea for those who need a constant layout, like tipsters. I may try out this feature, I'm sure ill find my own use for it :)

Thanks Poly!

Anonymous said...

I really hate the templates. get rid of them please! there is no creativity or originality in the template sets. It does everything for them. I now do not "like" any sets using templates.

Anonymous said...

I understand that when starting out it can be difficult to make sets, but thats no reason to invent something that will make people less creative. Having a template means you can't make a layout, and its almost like cheating. The people who work hard and create their own designs won't get as much reward because everyone will be looking at someone else's set based off of a template design which only took them 10 minutes or less. Polyvore is all about expressing creativity and who you are, not filling in a template that someone else designed. I've never used a template and don't intend to. It doesn't let you design your own set...it basically does all the work for you.

aviriana said...

Personally I like the templates; When I first joined polyvore, all of the great sets were very intimidating, and having a blank canvas, I had NO idea what to put on there, or how to organize it. With the templates, new users can get the hang of what goes together and what doesnt; they can see what they like and what they dont, and gather a style on their own and not feel so helpless. And Polyvore made templates an OPTION, so if you dont like them, simply dont use them. It takes time to gather a signature style, in all types of art. And with this, it just helps push people along and get the hang of things.

Ally said...

I really love the templates! Please don't take them away because SO many people are complaining. If you don't like them don't use them. For me, I love them because I make a lot of character sets and I like them to be uniform, so they go together. It's SO much work to crop and size and do a song and dance when the templates make it so easy.

But please tell me you're going to add a tab for them or something so they're easier to find and keep track of! I can't even locate the one I made, which is a pain. :/

I think the idea is good, but personally I'm never going to use it. My sets are all me, I don't want someone else's idea and I don't want someone else to use my idea's. Taking a long time on a set makes me proud of it, I put work into it as well as my own creativity, not someone else's.

Polyvore, Thank you so much for these templates!

Some of you need to go back and read where it says, "We noticed that many of our members who are bloggers and tipsters...By templatizing your set layouts, you can save time and make more sets more quickly."

Templates are not for everyone, I get that, but for someone like me who is a new blogger with a full-time job, I appreciate the ease of a template as an option to help make one or two of my blog posts look great without spending a whole lot of time creating a set from scratch on here or photoshop.

Not every member here is obsessed with the number of faves or contest wins they can achieve, some of us actually use polyvore for the fun of it.

To each thier own, I guess.

Hey lovelies!Team Polyvore only made this site better and better.I have never complaint about Polyvore but this new feature really kills the fun for me!:( It just makes me sad that there's not a distinction between sets and templates! Each person has their own style to create SETS and it is not fair to compete with TEMPLATES!My only suggestion is to distinguish set makers and template makers even if they are the same person.Polyvore is all bout ORIGINALITY,why change that?I don't think I will ever wanna use it,I'm disappointed.

CAN YOU MAKE IT SO WE CAN SAVE THE TEMPLATES TO USE AT A LATER DATE, JUST LIKE WE CAN SAVE ITEMS TO USE LATER??? Thanks. Sry for the caps. My comment is late and all the way at the bottom.
I LOVE THE NEW TEMPLATES!!!!
I love that I can use a template to make a set quickly and let people I'm still active when I'm really busy.. and can't invest a lot of time on a 3 hour fashion set. :) Thanks for the new addition to this AWESOME site. :)

i think ppl are being ridiculously mean to others about the templates. so sorry that not everyone can be as good and "creative" as others. let the rest of us have fun and feel like we did something good!i take offense to all the negative comments about other users cuz i spend LOTS of time finding just the right pictures and fonts and whatever for my templates. i spend hours on them! i think ppl need to stop being so rude.

APP FOR IPOD IPHONE PLEASE!! I would LOVE to have that, I'd even pay a reasonable fee for that. Plus, it would make me even more addicted.

Please, pretty please?
Thanks :)

IT IS GOING TO BE A GREAT TOOL FOR NEW MEMBERS. DON'T UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE IDEA, BUT SERIOUSLY THINK THAT THERE ARE GOING TO BE COMPLAINTS ABOUT LETTING OTHER USE TEMPLATES...POLYVORE PEOPLE TEND TO DEVELOPE A VERY HARD OWNERSHIP FEELING FOR WHAT THEY DO. I DON'T, I WOULD LOVE EVERYONE TO USE MY TEMPLATES AND EVERYTHING, CREATIVITY IS TO BE SHARE. LOVE YOU POLYVORE AND LOVE YOUR IDEAS!

I love the templates :D I'm the kind of person who has a lot of ideas but doesn't know how to put them out nicely, but now templates are helping me out! :) They are good "training wheels" for newbies, too.

I think we should be able to rotate items and flop/flip them in templates, though. It would also be nice if we could put text into a template.

Don't like templates? Don't use them! Simple as that!

Thank you Polyvore :]

Love templates!

I'm just wondering how you can easily find templates at the moment? I like them, but I'm having some difficulty finding good ones.

Also, I think we should be able to rotate images in side of templates.

Yeah... I can see how they'd be helpful for new users, but it's kind of a drag to see set after set after set looking the same! Boring! Argh.

If a person makes a template then clearly they want it to be used?

I understand how they "kill creativity" as it were but they are fun and relatively easy to use and some people aren't as creative as some of the people on polyvore.

i don't like templates at ALL
they take away all of the creativity on polyvore and it's getting quite irksome

Total love having the templates :)
Maybe they can sort it so we can get different shape and not just squares I know it's asking a lot but I think having circles and other shapes would be cool.

I'm actually having a hard time using templates.I click "Fill Template" but my editor comes up empty;no template. When I see other people's sets, underneath it says "Based on a Template By:..."
It really confuses me.If I could get some help,I'd greatly appreciate it.

I think you need to give us a way to "like" or "collect" themes that we like. At the moment its kinda of a luck-of-the-draw process and there is no clear way to locate or gather themes at all.

Thanks

Help! I meant to make a template, only after I made the very complicated background, I realized I was in the SET creation, not template app. I thought I could just click on the create template thing and it would automatically upload my draft so I could add placeholders, but it isn't so. I don't want to start over from scratch - is there anything I can do?

Thanks!

How do you get rid of the template and just have a blank canvas to make a set? I've just logged in to polyvore after a few months of inactivity and I'm dismayed to find that it seems I can't make a set on a blank space anymore but instead have to drag everything into set positions. Any help would be appreciated. Are there only templates for use now? :/

it completely sucks that I can't just put things where I want them and make them the right size on my own the way i did before. Sure, have an option to choose from a template for people who are new or really like working from a rigid formula, but give the rest of us a chance to keep doing it free form like before. Now I have to spend all the time making up a template I like first, and then adding the items i want to it - what a waste of time and creativity!! I honestly don't think I will continue using Polyvore unless they give us the option to turn off the templates.

How do you remove the templates??? I mean they're great for starting out, but not for everyone. I can't get mine off :(

I loved the templates and now that the search bar is not there I don't like using this website anymore. It made it so much easier to organize my ideas in a layout than before and I was really excite when this feature came out. Now that you can't search them anymore I have to go to other peoples profiles and go through their templates to find one that looks interesting and well made just to spend another 45 min actually filling it in. before i could just find one with the tab and spend all of my time finding pieces that fit together and looked good. Ok yeah I admit that you should have an option when you makes templates for them to be private or not but taking down a whole feature that some people do like just because other people don't is kinda unfair. They should just suck it up and not use it and leave it an option for the rest of us. And how dare you say that just because someone uses templates that their work is not creative. I use templates for all my sets and I still spend 30-45 minutes per set I make. So look at my sets and then come tell me using templates is not creative or its cheating because i have never looked at other peoples sets and said oh that looks good lets find that template and make a set that looks exactly the same. I truly am considering no longer using this site because a bunch of people decided that using tools and having other ways to express your ideas is 'not creative and lacks originality'

I Think Templates Are Awesome Because Maybe Some People Have Designers Block Or Something And The Templates Can Help Them Get Back On Their Feet. There Was A Point In Time Where I Had Block On Making Outfits So I Started Using Templates and I Started To Do Fabulous Outfits Again. So For All Those People Who Have A Problem With Templates, They Just Aren't For You .
