Template Gallery

As you know we created templates to make it easier for you to create beautiful sets on Polyvore. The most common piece of feedback we received was that there was no way to find templates, so we created a template gallery. To find templates, just click on the 'Create a set' link at the top of your page and then click on the 'Templates' tab.

Templates in the gallery are ranked based on a combination of popularity and recency. We hope that you discover some cool new templates to create sets with!

As always, we'd love to hear any feedback or suggestions. So feel free to leave a comment here on the blog.

Love,
The Polyvore Team

Yay!!

as some people dont like templates because they believe that its taking the creativeness out of the sets mabey there should be a poll? or a vote? as to weather or not the templates are kept.

Anonymous said...

no, there shouldn't.

BooYahIt'sRiya said...

Hi! I really love this idea, but I think there needs to be a few changes in the new contest layout.

bri said...

if you don't like the templates dont use them, simple as that. other people like them

Shelby said...

Umm, first comment, it's not like you have to use it.

Anonymous said...

I love the gallery! My one complaint is, unlike items, when you click on the template or the set examples for a better look, it just brings you to a new 'creation' window.

Anonymous said...

This is awsomee♥

Anonymous said...

I don't think we need a voting. People who don't like template should just ignore them.

Thanks for the template gallery but I think it would be great to have a possibility to save ones favorite templates too.

I agree with the person below.
I dislike the templates greatly.
It's nothing but copy after copy of the same set.

Thanks you SO much (:

no. this is so bad. encouraging people to USE TEMPLATES?! Really? I thought this website was about creativity and self expression...not having your sets look like everyone else's! NOT COOL.

Kath said...

I agree with 'anonymous' but the templates are amazing nonetheless :D

Anonymous said...

sucks. please make it an option to have that tab. because, personally I don't want it.

Anonymous said...

thank you, thank you, thank you! :)

Anonymous said...

yes, but a lot of people like them, too and some people who are new really like them or need them. Please just keep them. =)

Anonymous said...

I'm not really into templates..
but thanks

sophisty said...

Fabulous fix! It makes no difference whether some people don't care for templates; they always have the option not to use them. For those who like using them, this tab makes templates SO much more accessible. Thank you for this update.

Anonymous said...

This is amazingly helpful(: BUT I think we should be able to "save" templates, like we do with items cause is makes it easier for you to find and use the one's you really love.

And Anonymous... Those people can just not use them, just because there are templates doesn't mean everybody has to use them. There's some people who can't make really fancy sets that use them or people who repeate set layouts and don't like to remake them each time so they make a template.. EX; For Roleplayers, they tend to use templates for showcases

Anonymous said...

I think that there should be a search feature in the template gallery. :)

Anonymous said...

Thanks Polyvore, this is great!! I LOVE the feature where you can scroll over the template and it shows you an example of a finished set. That's a great feature and I love it -- so clever!! Thanks for adding this in for us! You guys rock!

Anonymous said...

Maybe we should just let those who want to use templates use them, and those who don't can just go on about their business. I say that there are plenty of people who enjoy using templates, and voting to keep them off is unfair.

In any case, I'm glad that there is a link for them, it's a lot more practical.

Tams said...

i agree with the anonymous person too, making sets is a way to express individual creativity. Having templates will only make everyone's sets look the same. And it's not exactly fair for someone who put so much effort into a set to see another person's set as good just by using a template. The quality and time spent on our sets will soon go down.

Caity said...

Templates can be great at times, but what would make this better is a search feature and the ability to block others from using your template.

MizuRatiosu said...

@Anon: No. Why is there such discrimination against templates, anyways? Why can't the creation of a template itself be considered creative? There are plenty of people on the site that do really work hard on making nice templates for their sets and for fair use by others. Just because there are some that don't like the templates doesn't mean that they should be removed from the site. That in itself isn't fair.

Anonymous said...

Thanks alot,
that was a great idea.

I have a few more suggestions, that have been going around.
1. Make a button (like a light) so we can see when our friends are online
2. be able to search for templates as as well
3. Get rid of the item limit!
4. Keep Polyvore awesome! (but you already do that)
:)

Ms Mizuki Chan said...

I think this is a good move as there are just so many nice templates out there that are left unknown and unused. Great Job Polyvore team!

Anonymous said...

this is really great. but please, no poll or vote. let's potentially ruin it for the people who do like the templates.

littledhampir said...

Yay, I can finally find templates instead of making more and more of my own!!!
And anonymous templates should be kept and the people who don't like them just don't use them!!!

VLourenzo said...

I LOVE the Templates and am glad there is a place to find them now. I like them because sometimes it is fun to be creative and sometimes it is just fun to play. Keep the templates!

Anonymous said...

thank you so much for this thoughtful consideration Polyvore:))

Robsessed73 said...

Dear Polyvore,
Thank you for making it easier to find templates!! It's great when you improve your site, the way we suggested!!

Can you please make it easier to find 'our items' sorting them by colour, like the rest of the items?

And can you send updates about ALL the changes you make on the site? It's difficult when the site you know like the back of your hand, keeps changing all the time, in ways you didn't expect.

Thank you!!! I ♥ Polyvore!!

Anonymous said...

I think it's great that polyvore users will now have a central location in which to find the template they would like to use.

I believe the template tab needs a search box though, so users can search by template name, creator name, or perhaps prominent feature such as 'fashion' 'flowers', 'frames', 'hearts' etc. Providing an option to search by (prominent) color would be nice as well.

Anonymous said...

Could the template page have a search engine, maybe? Something so we don't have to go through all the pages to find a template we really need.

*Moonwolf* said...

i think templates arn't a good idea, because sets get repetative and boring. i've already seen loads where people use the template 'i think - is hot.' it encorages stupid pointless sets and makes the art side of polyvore devout of originality. the fashion is already just people copying each other.

Anonymous said...

I thought it was far more helpful when there was a tab for contests in the edit section. Perhaps you can allow each user to personalize their edit page and chose which tabs they would most like to use!

Anonymous said...

So....we can see our templates but no-one else can? ....what use is that if we want them to use our templates?! xx

Becca said...

I love the idea of templates, and the new gallery, but sometimes we make templates for ourselves.. like if we make the same kind of set often, we'll make a template to make it easier, but we can never find our own templates... maybe a "Your Templates" bar? Or even throw them in with the "My Items"? Either way I think its needed :]

frankie carboni said...

I personally don't like them much, but hey I don't have to use them. No need for a vote as to whether they are kept or not, if you like them, fine; if you don't like them, don't use them. Simple.

Anonymous said...

to anonymous below....if some people dont like the templates because of un-creativeness, then why cant they just not use them? Dont take them away. Some people aren't as good at making sets and templates definitely help. I know they help me.
thanks

Anonymous said...

i know i love it too is so cool and way easier

NotJustAnotherBrickInTheWall said...

Anonymous, if somebody don't like templates they don't have to use them. I don't use them, but maybe once i will, but for now i didn't find a template that i like. With this template gallery mabye i will! Thanks 4 making it easyer Poly! <3

Anonymous said...

There should not be a poll. I personally like templates. If you don't like templates, don't use them, simple as that. If you do, use them. It's not like they're hurting anyone. A lot of people like them, and find them useful.

Anonymous said...

I think a good option would be able choose to make the template
private or public ,private would be only the creater can use it public any member can use it .

Jo Dawkins said...

I think there are limitations to the templates. But they should be used if
the person wants to.

Ashleigh Anne said...

I think it's a great idea! And in response to Anon, the people that want to use templates can use them and then the people that prefer not to use them simply don't. There's really no need for a vote.

Alexandra said...

Hi, I want to make a comment unrelated to the template gallery which is great. And I don't think you should make any poll.
I have noticed that you changed also the contest page, I would like to make a small suggestion - the name of the group does not appear on the new contest page like it did before, I would preffer that it appear, because if you are coming to the contest page from another set, not from the Group page, and you would like to join, you don't know which is the group you are joining to.
Thank you very much for your work!!

D&A said...

Love this feature!!! Only...it's hard to find what I'm looking for...i.e. templates created for dresses vs. separates, jewelry, etc. It might be cool to have a sorter where you can click check-boxes to narrow down the gallery for your particular needs. Regardless, thanks - it's fun!

Anonymous said...

suggestion;;

about the item limit...you should make it more obvious when we exceed the item limit, because when youre focused on making the set look great, and you go to publish it, it's hard to take out items and fill the blank spaces when youre well over 50 items.

(: love,
-alex<33

I love the new Template Gallery, it's the only way I can make a Template. But my complaint is that there is bot enough Templates in there! you have less than 50 pages. You need to have hundreds of pages of them. I have some really nice Templates that I would like to see showcased in there as well. I think you should use other people Templates as well so they have a chance to have theirs out there as well.

Anonymous said...

Templates make it easy for people who roleplay to make sets easily. So I think keeping them is a great idea. Those who don't like templates don't have to use them.

Anonymous said...

first comment its not like u have to use them if you like them use them if you dont then dont, its as simple as that

Anonymous said...

I know a lot of people don't like templates and think they should go, but since many people do like them and they're not in the way of others, why not leave them? I meam, templates are just an option! Nobody has to use them or look at them or think about them if they don't want to, but the people that do want to should be able to. I don't understand why it's such a big issue; how is it relevent to people who don't care?

Anonymous said...

Yeah! A search engine for templates and to be able to save them to your 'items' would be great. x

Anonymous said...

cool

i agree with the people who think templates are a bad idea. they dont encourage creativity and expression, they simply make it easier for people to copy others sets and ideas. it makes everything look generic and similiar. i personally hate templates and think they have no place on polyvore. i understand you want to make the site easier to use for newcomers, but we were all newcomers once and it took us all time to get used to making sets and find our own style. i think templates are repetitive and should be removed!

Anonymous said...

I love this and I love templates. I don't think there should be any poll or anything because it would be unfair to the people who like templates. The great part about templates is that tons of people filled them in, but they're all different and creative!

Anonymous said...

NOT ENOUGH TEMPLATES IN THE EDITOR FIELD!! I love the idea of adding the templates to the editor page, it is the only place I can make the templates. But you need to add much more templates. And how about some of the more creative ones that have other objects in them besides the template boxes. NEED MANY MORE PAGES OF TEMPLATES!!!!

Diantha said...

You should make it so people using Opera can use them. Actually, my problem isnt the templates themselves since I dont use them but that ever since the tab was added I cant even make a set on this browser anymore, though Ive been doing it for a year. What happened to Opera being able to play on here?

Yay so cool
for the people who dont like them, dont look at them or use them, simple! It helps lots of people with their sets.

I think that you should create a search bar so people can find the template they want. For example, if you want a template for fashion sets, you search that. If you want one of those text sets like "There Is Hope for Everyone" or something, you would search that! :) Templates are a great idea by the way.

Jamye said...

Maybe there should be a way for other Polyvore-goers to see who used a template created by another user. I feel like that might take a little of the skepticism out of it. Some of the templates are really awesome, but I don't feel like everyone will try to put their own spin on it and change them up. I mean, if I were to use someone else's template, I would definitely want everyone to know that it was not completely my work/idea. Maybe that's just me being an honest artist, though!!

Anonymous said...

templates = making roleplay easier! i vote templates are good!!

Anonymous said...

All i can say is i think it a waste of time... so many people hate the templates all together... including me... they are just copies of copies of copies... seriously its the worst idea polvore has had... sorry to sound harsh but its true

Anonymous said...

how do i use them they r really cool but can take creativity out of things but if u dont like it dont use it

Anonymous said...

so I'll never find my templates... :'(

Anonymous said...

But how do you find your own templates.?

partiesbykristen said...

There are many of us who don't use Polyvore for it's original purpose. I use it as an easy way to do inspiration boards for my business and for me, the clean look of a template is best. Let those of us who prefer templates to continue to use them and if you don't like them, don't use them. I will agree that for contest purposes, it's unfair for templates to be used. It also would be nice to be able to favorite templates in order to make it easier to find them. Scrolling through all of those templates is tedious and time consuming.

I want to THANK YOU for implementing my suggestion related to the contests page, to include a reference to the group. Now it's perfect. Thanks!

I cant figure out how to drag pictures to the template..?

Lucy Kitsch said...

Having a poll is ridiculous. If you don't like the feature, don't use it. Simple as that.

Hello, I am a new bee here.
Please help me, I do not know how to use template. I tried to drag items into it but never worked :-(

"Not only are companies using the site to promote contests but each item used in a Polyvore layout has a link to the price and where the item can be purchased online. Users can design the perfect outfit for a night on the town or big job interview and be able to purchase every exact piece. To begin creating a perfect outfit, users can start with a blank slate or a template that best showcases their style. Once a template is chosen, users can then search through categories of items: tops, outerwear, dresses, jeans, and accessories, etc. and drag and drop them on the page. Once a Polyvore masterpiece is finished, the page is saved under a personalized Polyvore account. Various creations can be posted to social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest.
So the ultimate question is: How will sites like Pinterest and Polyvore affect the fashion industry? These sites are not only using social media driven power to share their content but people are no longer looking towards fashion magazines like Vogue, InStyle, Glamour and others for style inspiration. They are focusing on what their peers and online members are putting together. Polyvore’s template designs, that appear to be taken right out of fashion magazines, show how simple it is to find styles and create a personalized magazine page. "

I think that there should be a way to save your favorite templates for later use. I've been adding an item of clothing to them and saving them in drafts for now but I don't like that. I think that there should also be a way to search through the templates. By color or theme for example.
