Style Influencer Series: Kate Betts

Over the last few seasons, we've introduced you to fabulous designers, celebrity stylists, and fashion journalists in our Style Expert Series. Through Style Q&A and contests, our style experts have enjoyed getting to know you, too! As we head into the new spring season, we're excited to bring you a fresh experience by relaunching our program as the Style Influencer Series. Once a month, we'll be spotlighting influential people in the fashion and entertainment industries through contest challenges.

Kicking off our Style Influencer Series is Kate Betts, author of the book Everyday Icon: Michelle Obama and the Power of Style. Kate has been covering the world of style for twenty years, most recently as a contributing editor at Time and also as the editor of Time Style & Design. The youngest person ever to serve as editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar, she was also the fashion news director at Vogue and the Paris bureau chief of Women’s Wear Daily.

Who is your favorite style icon and why?

Michelle Obama because she represents the synthesis of style and substance.

What advice would you give to aspiring fashion journalists?

Follow your own curiosity, don't just follow the pack. When everyone else is looking to the left, look right.

Enter Kate Betts' style influencer challenge and dress your favorite style icon. She'll personally choose three winners to receive an autographed copy of her book, Everyday Icon: Michelle Obama and the Power of Style.
