Dear Polyvore Community,
We have some exciting new updates for you today!
Color Block Tool
There's a new tool in the editor that lets you spice up your sets with colored blocks! Just click the "Colors" option to see popular palettes, like grays, earth tones, and brights. Drag a color block to the canvas, resize it, rotate it, and use it to build cool backgrounds, frames, and fillers. As you add items to your set, we'll automatically suggest additional colors that complement your set. You can also search for keywords like "water" and "love", which will return popular colors from ColourLovers that are associated with those themes. We hope this will be helpful for those of you who have already been clipping images of colored rectangles to use as backgrounds. Unlike clipped images, you can resize these blocks in all directions to create rectangular shapes without using the custom background tool.
We invented the custom background tool so you could crop out mannequins and models, but we noticed many of you also use it to resize photos and other images. To make it even easier, we've added rectangular crops to the custom background tool. Just select the rectangle icon in the top right corner, and drag the corners of the crop region to suit your needs.
My Home - View Counts, Activity Stream Changes
As we mentioned in our blog post about upcoming site changes, one of our goals is to give you a better understanding of your audience. Millions of people view Polyvore sets every day, but most people never click the "Like" button because they don't have a Polyvore account. To better reflect your full audience, we've added more information about your set views to My Home and have altered some aspects of the activity stream:
- Graph of set views on My Home. This is a great way to track your sets' popularity. Many of you were granted early access to this feature and have been using it for a while. For those of you who don't see it, you can go to your account settings and check the "Show stats in My Home" checkbox.
- View notifications in your activity stream. When your sets are among the top 1000 most viewed of the day or if you cross an important view count threshold (like 1000 total views or 10K or even 100K), we'll notify you in your activity stream.
- Notifications from non-registered members. You may also start to see notifications of unregistered users who are adding you to contacts or liking your sets. These appear as "A fan from New York added you to contacts".
- Collapsing of likes and comments. We've also tweaked the activity stream so that your like & comment notifications are collapsed. This allows you to see more notifications at once.
As always, feel free to share your feedback by leaving us a comment here!
