You Spoke, We Listened. Improved Activity Stream.

Last week we rolled out some changes to the site, including a new color block tool, rectangular cropping, and changes to My Home. Thank you to everyone who shared feedback with us. We read through all 500+ of your comments and spent the last week working on some further improvements.

Today we've rolled out a new version of the My Home activity stream that makes it easier find your likes and comments. Likes are grouped by person, which makes it easier to reciprocate likes, but is still more compact and less cluttered than the previous design. Let us know what you think!

The new color block tool and rectangular cropping have been getting a lot of love! Over 28,000 sets have been created using color blocks in under a week. We're inspired by how creatively people are using color blocks to embellish their sets. Here are some examples:

Thanks for being patient as we worked on our revisions. We can't promise we'll always make changes you love, but please know we are always listening and trying to make the site better. Just as a headsup, we will continue to make changes to My Home and will be introducing vanity URLs for your profiles. Stay tuned!

Love,
The Polyvore Team

I really like the new homepage. A lot of people have been saying they dislike it but is sooo much easier to read & use.
So, thank you!

I actually really like it. LOVE the colour block tool, and the rectangular cropping is fantastic. And I actually really like the new My Home.

Anonymous said...

I liked the old one better (from 2 updates ago). This one is annoying because it is by person and not by time as much. Plus, the country this is pointless and the icons of the sets are too small. Even the collapsable ones were better :\

I understand you cant make us all happy. But most people arent happy with the new, new change.

Why do we need to know where the person is from.? It makes everything more clustered and confusing.

There wasn't any complaints with the way the first one looked.

We were [most people] happy with the original one.

It wasn't clustered.
It wasn't confusing to read.
And you didn't have to click on your set to see who's liked your set.

Please.
At least give us users to option of the three.

You're changing things that we haven't asked to be changed.

Yet the things that we have asked to be changed [e.g. the fifty item limit] haven't been changed.

Please. Just give us options.

P.S. I realise you worked hard in making this change but if anything its upset more people.

Anonymous said...

Why do you have to keep changing things that people never had any problem with? If people aren't complaining, and if it's not broken, you don't have to fix it! Change it back to the old way it was. This isn't doing anyone any good.

OhMyDior! said...

I like it! It's less complicated than both previous versions and of course, everything seems to be perfectly organized.

Thanks a lot!

Anonymous said...

I don't like the new home page updates...either of them, actually.

the last one was so much better!! who ever complained about it? no one! because it was great how it was!

i mean, i appreciate the work you put in to polyvore, but it was fine how it was!

Anonymous said...

I don't know how many times I have said this, but... Please, why don't you really listen to us? We really hate the 50 item limit, and other things like 50 people have to be in a contest to get trophies. Or how about the ability to search within our items? You're putting energy into something we don't care about. The homepage was better to begin with. Why don't you ask the members what they want?

Anonymous said...

To be honest, I don't like it. I liked the origional one. This one is confusing because its hard to tell which sets they liked. The country takes up space, and isn't really nessesary.

Anonymous said...

I LOVE this new homepage. Thanks for this amazing change!

Anonymous said...

A lot of people arent happy with the change. We liked it the way it was.

sophisty said...

This new design is simply elegant! It is brilliant to have the stream compressed by set rather than by PV user. This is EXACTLY what was needed. I made the team a "thank you" set: http://www.polyvore.com/ch-ch-ch-changes_thank_you_polyvore/set?id=30413410 to show my appreciation. Love you all!

the first home page was the best!!the new one is also confusing to read...don t like it!!

Anonymous said...

I really like the new home page! It's so clear and easy, exactly what i wanted...you can always make the icons a little bit bigger but anyway,it's good :D!thanks for changing the other one,it was so confusing! Good work Polyvore team!

Anonymous said...

You guys really need to STOP making changes to the My Home page. The very original activity stream(two years ago) was amazing. This one is eh, you don't show the person's icon and the whole "From _____" is annoying. I relied on the icons because I get used to those rather than the names, and if I don't know the icon then I look at the names. But honestly nobody cares about where they're from. If they do they can go look on their profile. Please change it back, if you change it to the one from 2yrs ago I would love this site again.

Anonymous said...

Please put the pictures back. Everything else is fine, but put back the icons and sets. This is boring and uninteresting.

Allison said...

When you first improved it, I really liked it. But when I logged on today... yeah, I hate this. It takes forever just to find out who commented or who liked what! I'm tired of changes.

Anonymous said...

Yes it is true that a lot of people hate the changes & I'm not gonna lie...I hated it also & miss the old polyvore home page lots! But I think THIS new version is sooooo much better than the last update! I understand what people are saying when they say they want things to go back the way they was because in a way so do I but at least you're listening to what we have to say and you are trying to make things better for us & trying to keep polyvorians happy! Haha! So...thank you for that =)

Anonymous said...

We all do really apreciate that you're trying to make us happy, but what would would really make us happy is if you'd change the things we actually want changed, instead of the things we have no complaints about. We liked the homepage how it was before. It wasn't confusing or clustered. It is now, though. If you want to improve polyvore, maybe you should take aaway the 50 item limit, or at least make it an 100 item limit. That would be a lot better than a new homepage that was already perfect in the first place.

Anonymous said...

why dont i get a graph on my activity page???

Anonymous said...

Dear Polyvore team, THANK YOU for resolving this problem. It really means a lot to us and its easier to use. You can`t make us all happy but this change with home page was huge. Every other change, especially color block tool - I LOVE !
THANK YOU !!!!!!! It`s great how it is now...so close to previous.

Anonymous said...

To be honest I don't like the new layout. I prefer the one right before this one. Though I adore the color block tool. I like the way you display the group announcements right now. But I don't like the way you display the likes, when it shows all the likes of the person.

teethybitey said...

Much better, thank you.

PolkaStripedZebra said...

I like the new home page better than the one before this one. Thank you Polyvore team for the changes. But if there's one thing you can do to make it even better is to take away the 50 limit item. Please! Thanks.

Anonymous said...

I don't like it I liked the origional one. This one is so hard to tell which sets they liked and the stupid country takes up to much space and isn't nessesary at all.

HalieSiobhan said...

yes! it's about time it got fixed! I like it better. The only thing i've been having problems with is my contacts; even if i get a new follower, it won't update on my profile. And then the rotate tool in the editor doesn't work with Firefox 4.0

Mimoda said...

Dear Polyvore Team: thank you very much for all the improvements to the new homepage!!!

♥Random Person In Your Bushes♥ said...

I'm not that fond of either of the changes to the activity stream. No one really complained, and I like it the original way...
What I would like to see, is a dislike button, and the ability to search within your items and contacts, and maybe a section just fro effects like, sparkles, fire, textures, and so on, the stuff that most of us use to make it look awesome...heh. Please?

Anonymous said...

thank you so much polyvore! it is much appreciated!

Jael Paris said...

I didn't think the original way was cluttered, but then I don't have hundreds of likes a day either. This new version is better than what you had before, but the sets are so small! I have so squint to see what what liked.

Anonymous said...

I don't know how to say this, since you've put in so much effort and are trying to make us happy...I feel bad that I have to say that "I HATE IT". But there's no other way to be honest and say it as I see it. Here's a hint...once again, PLEASE REALLY REALLY LISTEN TO THE POLYVORE USERS!! Most of us want the activity feed BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS. Before last 2 changes! Why do you insist on force feeding people what they don't like?? Please! Just change it all back! This is awful still:(

Anonymous said...

the lines are clean, and it's much easier to browse, but I would LOVE it if there were a COLLAPSE option. sometimes those bits of info are soooo distracting, and I don't always make sets just to get tons of "likes" and comments. sometimes I just want to get my fashion on~

:)

Anonymous said...

I actually really like the new layout and how it's grouped by person. Though the icons that show what sets/collections they liked COULD be a tab bit bigger, the improvements are great.
Thanks, Polyvore :D

There are some other things that could be improved upon, also. We should be able to search our contacts instead of flipping through tons of pages just to find one person.
Same with items. Could you please add on the "tags" feature for the items also?

Jilbert said...

It will take some getting used to, but I think I'm going to like it better than the previous improvement. What I really do appreciate is your willingness to listen and to admit any shortcomings ...

THANKS!!!!

btw -- I DO love the new clip tool ... Haven't used the color blocking capability enough to really comment on it.

Leocadia Thistle said...

I really did prefer the old homepage design, I liked seeing group icons and profile images. The colour blocks seem useful, though I haven't tried them yet. All we really want, though, Polyvore, is to have the limit raised. Or maybe an item counter in the Editor, to let us know how many more images we could use as we created the set. I understand you can't please everyone, though.

Anonymous said...

i think people should stop complaining. i like it a lot, & people just need to get used to it. (: but i would LOVE LOVE LOVE if you guys added a privacy setting to our profiles / sets. that way we could choose who saw our sets. especially with roleplays.

Nyria Langham said...

There are good things and bad things about each of these layouts.
However, the only good thing I can find in this new My Home layout is the lines in between each update.
As many people have said, why fix things that don't need to be fixed.
You can't please us all,
but you can offer us all a choice.
Because isn't this site supposed to be about self expression?

jill.i.am said...

Love the changes! Polyvore has really been great listening to the suggestions of the people who use it... so I say... can we have a make square for cropping and a circular crop too? That would make cropping ten times more fun for us OCD polyvore people!

Much better! I love it!

I really do not like the new home page. I think most people were happy with the original one. Can we please get the choice of which homepage we use? thanks.

Ugh. Personally I liked how it was when I first joined Polyvore. When it just said so and so liked your set. I have not like the past two updates. You need to stop changing it and change it back to the original.

I don't mind the color block tool and the new cropping but I really dislike the new homepage.

For goodness sake I can assure you Polyvore and everyone else in the Polyvore community that no-one will ever be satisfied. There will always be people complaining whilst there are people that are happy with the result.

I love this new my home layout! it's so much simpler. I like how you can see exactly how many sets each person likes. I do miss having the icons next to the names, but that's okay.
All in all, a very good job :)
I'm really grateful that you listened to us about this.

Thank You Polyvore Team!!!

P.S. down with the 50 item limit!!!

Anonymous said...

Oh, Polyvore team, you never cease to amaze me! Thank you so much for constantly working to make the site better, and for dealing with (eh hem) sometimes rude comments that express discontent and suggestions. Seriously, you guys are great. I am sort of indifferent to the latest change, but the color blocking & rectangle tools are awesome! I still remember when we weren't able to cut out the backgrounds of images. =) Great job & thank you!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for listening - the activity stream is definitely better. Loving those colour blocks and the rectangular cropping tool!

Anonymous said...

I love this so much!!!! Very good change! :)

Anonymous said...

I love the new rectangular cropping tool! It would be great if you made it so we could crop other shapes like triangles and circles too! :D

Anonymous said...

Love it! Really good change!

Anonymous said...

The new homepage is annoying. The icons too small, the extra text [where people are from]. I found the speech bubble type thing convenient and easy to read. It didn't have extra confusing things added for no reason.
Though the new cropping option is nifty.

Anonymous said...

I LOVE IT! I love the simplicity of it. It just makes 'My Home' so much neater BUT the sets could be a bit bigger that's my only problem. I can see other people disliking on adding the person's country. I think it's just to add more confidence in making your sets. That people from other countries have an interest in your sets! I think that's great! So, other than the size of the sets it's a great change!

Guyys, be nicer! You should be grateful that this site even exists :) Okay, most of us prefer the old old My Home, but the newest one is way better than the one before! & I love the Color Blocking & rectangular cropping. Thank You!

Anonymous said...

I do not like the most recent update. I think it's confusing. I don't really care where the person is from. Instead of making so many changes to the homepage, why don't you get rid of the 50 item limit? No one likes it, from what I've seen. I think it'd be great to no longer have to worry about your sets having too many items. When you clip them, it simply is too blurry.

In closing, I think we should go back to the update we had before the one we got today. Everyone was just getting used to it.

Anonymous said...

I know the Polyvore staff is only trying to please us, but I still must say that I strongly dislike this most recent update.
I don't understand why it must show us where the person is from. If I wanted to know, I would click on their link. it's just confusing.
And I'd MUCH rather be able to see group icons. That becomes confusing too.
On the plus side, I do like the lines between the notifications.
However, I liked the update we had before this one. It was nice, easy to read. I suggest we go back to that, but keep the lines between our notifications. It's good to have group icons and such.
Thanks!

I've now lost complete interest in who faves me and comments on which set under all this clutter that my new homepage is now filled with:( I understand you won't change it back to the way it used to be. So there's no point in asking for it anymore is there?

Anonymous said...

I hate the updated version! The older homepage was way less confusing and neat. I feel like polyvore is trying to change to look like Facebook. We are on Polyvore.com..... not Facebook.com. You should give us the option of choosing between at least 3 different home pages and what-ever homepage is voted the most wins!

Anonymous said...

I personally think that the new new homepage is great!
I understand that everyone has different opinions on their favourite one, so it makes it difficult. Maybe you could have an options on our 'settings' page where we could choose which one we wanted...

Gummy said...

I'm pretty new so I don't really know much different from previous feed layouts, though it would be nice to see what set someone has just liked instead of lumping them all together. Maybe there could be a highlight box around the ones they liked for the day so you would know the difference.

Also, it would be really, really nice to be able to make a collection of my sets from drafts instead of having to publish them first. I've made a collection just showing outfits that aren't like my regular sets...I would prefer not to have to publish them first so they don't clutter up my profile feed...BUT would instead love to publish them all at the same time as one whole collection.

It also would be fantastic to have a setting where you could have the option to be alerted (no matter what page you are on) when someone likes your set, has comment, makes you a contact, etc. I'd imagine it being like the little yellow rectangle that shows up for a few seconds when you do that for someone else.

Thanks for listening!

A lot of people may still want to revert to the old style, but I am really grateful for you guys listening to our opinions and I am quite content with the new-new changes to the recent old-new changes (hope that makes sense :P).

I don't think we really need to know where the person who likes or comments or adds us to contacts lives per se, but it's still better than that old mess of things.

Thank you so much, Polyvore. (:

Anonymous said...

Oh for pity's sake.
This is even worse. Why must you make the My Home page SO complicated? Just put it back the way it was two months ago and you won't have hundreds of people jumping down your throats.
I state once again, just because you want to change something doesn't mean everyone want you to as well.
And sorry for being crude, but FFS.

Anonymous said...

I agree with what most people are saying. The original was better, i was just starting to get used to the other one and then it's changed again. Honestly I prefer the last one over this one even though it wasn't idea;. The 'from Texas/Australia/Fiji' is redundant and my feed is full of simply words as groups don't show the icons anymore. I get more notifications now. Before at least all my 'comments on a set' were in the same tab now they're all separate. I get you want to make things better but why this? Can we at least have the option of the three pages?

Lisa R said...

I think I like the new activity summary, it will take a bit of getting used to but it's certainly better then the previous update. I do feel bad for the groups that their icons don't show but at least it helps separate the announcements from the likes and comments. Because the images are quite small it would help if the name of the set showed up when you hover the mouse over it. Also when you click on a set it goes to the view that just shows the "likes" rather than the actual set, that's a bit of a pain. On another note, since all these changes have been going on my Activity Type list shows "item usages" twice. It would be great to have the option there to unselect all and then just tick what ever we want to list at that particular time.

Thanks for listening :-)

Oh please just stop changing the good things, and change the ones we have complaint on. Home page was perfectly fine until you started experimenting with it. On the other hand I support the idea of going higher than a 50 items limit and also to have a more organized My items sector. Changing is good, but not by all means...

Hm, just on first seeing I gotta say that I like the previous improvement more. Gotta dmit with some comments I've read, the country thing is kinda pointless. And the way it is now, it's more confusing than before. Things were changes that none of us probably haven't even been spoken about. And the fact that a few people probably just got somewhat used to the other 'new' improvement and then we suddenly get even more new stuff, it's way too confusing.

Anonymous said...

Thank you Polyvore, you're such a sweethearts :)

I appreciate you listening to our comments but i don't think we need to know what country people who like are sets are from, its a bit irrelevant. I'd also like to know if you'll ever consider adding general contest win stats onto our homepages since we have things like "template usages" I don't think people really care how many templates people have used.

I don't love it, not because it's horrible or anything, but because I just really hate change, ya know?
I absolutely adore Polyvore and the work you guys put into it is amazing and I will be forever grateful, I just think that sometimes...change is unnecessary.
It will take some getting used to and there will be people who will moan and be ungrateful and I don't want to be like that.
So, thanks to the Polyvore team for listening to us and improving and working hard on the site, even if you do get a lot of complaints!

I love Polyvore. I've been on for about two years, and it's been so great to me. I've never had problems with the changes because really, I don't care.
But you asked, so I'll say:
I liked the old changes better. These look a little too generic and boring.

the activity stream is an improvement from the previous collapsible stream, but still, the activity stream before the collapsible was much better than this. i don't see the point in seeing where everyone is from. it looks messy, and as for myself, i don't even have where i'm from on my profile.

color block=amazing; comments/set like is better after the second update; however I have a few requests.

When you click on the set icon liked by other people on your home page, it brings you to the list of people that liked the set, rather than the page which the set is on where you can leave comments, see views, etc. Could we change this back? Bringing you to the page to see the list of people who liked the set is inconvenient.

Also, just the name of whoever liked the set will suffice, the place isn't really necessary.

Thank you so much Polyvore for updating though, and thanks for listening to our input as well

1)The icons are too small. It's impossible to know which set was faved, because I can't tell by the look of a miniscule icon.
PLUS: When I drag my mouse on the icon, it used to show the title of the set- now it doesn't.
Making it even harder to know which set was faved/commented on, without clicking on the set and going to it's page. Very time consuming if one gets lots of faves/comments.
2) Please stop shrinking thumbnails/icons in general. It's hard on the eyes.
3) No point in displaying country names/locations next to user names. Takes space and it's useless and uninteresting.
4) As visual people most of us are drawn to images (that we can actually see- so nothing tiny) and not words. There's too much written stuff on the homepages. I just get bored and stop reading most of it.
5) The old homepage before the two changes was better and less cluttered.
Thanks

Polyvore should create something to let everyone know who is online, and also like a chat box.

Thank you so much, Polyvore team! The new activity stream is clean and easy to read. I love it! Have you ever considered addressing users as to the reasons for not increasing the 50 item limit? It's not a problem for me personally, but all the constant complaining about it is really annoying.

Anonymous said...

I like everything except the home page sucks and the countries are pointless. I hate how you can't see group pictures when searching. A lot of groups have the same names and you can't find which are which :(

Hey, I really like the new format! It arranges things in a way that makes sense and cuts down on clutter. It seems like no matter what you do, someone will tell you guys "Everyone hates this!" or "No one was complaining!" although you obviously got a ton of complaints, and a lot of people do like it. Also remember, people usually only speak up when there's a problem-- when things are going well, there's no need to say anything. So don't worry if it sounds like everyone is angry :) Thanks you guys for the new update!

i don't likey

Anonymous said...

You actually AREN'T listening to us. If you were, the only change we'd have is no more 50 item limit. Everything else is unneeded and frustrating.

Anonymous said...

Holy God the whining up in these comments. Does it occur to anyone that if you've been asking for something all this time and they haven't done it, there's probably a good reason WHY they haven't done it?

I like it, It's good. stop arguing and appreciated what they are doing for the site.

I actually like some of the stuff, but I really miss the old home page, it made polyvore alot easier to understand.

Anonymous said...

im glad you listned to us, most sites dont do that. :) and i think i speak for all of polyvore when i say that you should get rid of the 5o item limmit! most people when they break the 50 item limmit they just have to clip their set and its a pain! i dont even understand why there is a 5o item limit! please consider removing it or at least make the number of items bigger! thanks!

The new home page is better than the previous. But, can you please give us back the summary like the old home page. I mean, like the announcement of you have 10 new likes, you have 1 contest win, and some kind like that. thank you polyvore. We love you. :)

Hisfavoritegirl said...

I'm not trying to be mean, but I don't like the activity stream at all. I love how it use to be. Like before the one now & the one before that. It just makes it so much harder for me to fave/comment/add back. ):

I like the new layout. I just don't like how you've combined likes and comments. I also don't like how it shows you the sets made with your template. I don't really care to see the sets, I'm just happy people used the template.
Please stop updating though, because people are happy with the layout and changes just make the site glitchy.
Thanks xx

It's a shame the group icons are gone (after I won 2 'group icon contests'), but I have to admit I like the new layout on my home page!!! It's so much easier to read then the previous one, thank you!!!!!

I don't really like the new homepage.
it's too organized, and I want to see each like i get by each person, not "so and so and 35 other people faved this set."
I do like the color block tool though, but instead of that, why couldn't you have raised the 50 item limit to 100 or something.
~just sayin.

I actually don't like the new set up. I like the one before this one. It hurts my eyes :P
Trying to focus on one thing.
But I will say I ♥ editor's new features :D
The color blocks are genius!
They show you the EXACT colors in the set so you don't have to guess what colors you have and publish a varied color set!

Polyvore, I know you work hard on here, but this change has not been very satisfactory for most users. It's really confusing, and I honestly don't care where someone is from. I really love all the other changes you have made, but this one I do not! Why do you keep changing things we haven't asked for, but you don't change things we do ask for? I'm sorry if I sound rude! Thanks for reading(:

Anonymous said...

I don't like it AT ALL.
Why have a Group Icon if people can't see it?
A lot of the groups I'm apart of have similar names and sometimes the icon is how I could tell the difference when they would update.
Same goes for the icons for people.

Please Polyvore, if you do change it PLEASE make it SOMEWHAT like the original that we had like 2 weeks ago.

I think everyone (at least most of us) liked that one the best.

& Just fyi, the whole "So & so is from the USA" crap is kinda usless and it takes up space. And the sets are so small it's ridiculous.

Please listen to our pleas and Make it like the one we had before <3

I didn't like that much and I also
call on the Department of Polyvore website to add the Arabic language to this site because there are many
Arab users who are not proficient in English ... and thank you so much

Anonymous said...

As always i love it...BUT what would be cool is if we can add contacts all at once instead of going to each page one by one, which takes a LONNNNNNNNNNG time, lol...if we can SELECT ALL, ADD to POLYPAL it would be nice and save time ;)

Just ignore all the people complaining, everyone will get used to it eventually, no one likes change because they don't understand it yet. Give it time, I personally think it's fine(: Thanks for all the time you put in!

thank you so much for listening to us! most sites dont do that :) but really, i think i speak for all of polyvore when i say that we should be able to serch within our items. please!!!!?? ALSO PLEASE PLEASE GET RID OF THE 5O ITEM LIMIT! or at least make it a higher limit maybe like a 100 item limit? idk just do something about it! i understand that there is no possible way that you can make every person happy, but i have never seen someone on polyvore who DIDNT hate the 50 item limit. please consider it! other wise, i LOVE the new changes! i dont really care about the format of the homepage, i liked it before and i like it now. but also, why cant you view someone's templates in their arcives? its REALLY annoying!!!!! i love polyvore, but these things get really annoying. most people would agree that if you changed the 50 item limit (i know getting rid of the whole thing might be a lot to ask for), if you put a serch box into your items so you could serch within them, oh and can u add a thing where you can comment on collections? THANKS A TON! i hope you nice people at polyvore read this and take everything into consideration! <3 thank u in advance

I dint like it the first time round but even before this latest change I did start getting used to it, and now i think its fine :)... In my opinion its just takes time to adjust to using it differently than before, like with alot of new things, especialy when it comes to computers, etc! :D

I really like the rectangle cropping and new icons for the clothes etc, I think that the new homepage is really confusing, It has WAY too much text and the group announcements are very hard to find, I like the homepage from 2 updates ago, It was clear and easy to read, Not crowded and things were not cut off, I have also noted that you have not kept up your promises about making the little bar above the links have themes, You have just left it plain black all the time. I wish the homepage was the same... But not the other stuff-

WHY does the clipper insist on telling me everything I try to clip is a color block? I agree with everyone else man, stop trying to fix what isn't broken-- you're just breaking everything else.

Please change the clipper back to the way it was. This nonsense of thinking almost everything I try to clip is a color block is extremely annoying.
