Sorry about last night's misfire

Dear Polyvore community,

We’re so sorry about last night’s misfire. Due to a caching bug, we accidentally turned on every single experimental feature that we’ve been working on for the past few months. The result was a confusing mishmash of features, including some features that we never plan to actually launch.

As we outlined in this post back in March, we are working on some larger site design changes, but our plan was always to incorporate the community’s feedback first. When we asked for Bay Area Polyvore members on Twitter and Facebook a few weeks ago, it was to find people who could come to our office for usability testing. The next step is for us to make changes based on their feedback, and then invite 100 members into a beta test. We would never have intentionally rolled out such a drastic change without running it by our community first.

We’re really upset that this upset everyone. Thanks to everyone for your patience and love.

Love,
The Polyvore Team

I've had that layout for a couple months now since I deleted & reactivated my account, I really LOVE the profile because it really is easier to fave & view sets! I think that EVERYONE should have that layout because it would let people have more faves. It's just a good idea to begin with!

love the misfire, so futuristic!! make the change and soon!!

thank you so much.(:
It's good to know it wasn't intentional as well.

Thank you.

Honestly, I was wondering where the polyvore team who actually cared about how we felt had gone.

PS.
Please fix the images since they still aren't fixed.

No problem! I actually liked the new home page. =) I would only have liked to have been able to have the option of choosing different sets to view on it. =)

To whom it may concern,
I thought the dashboard feature was cool, and the little number of how ever many notifications in red. Very cool. The only thing I strongly dislike was the followers and following. Having said that, it is nice to know you guys are always working on improving our beloved Polyvore.

i just want let you kno i really liked the dashboard thing that filtered through all the new contests on the groups i joined:)

Anonymous said...

Oh god, I don't think you should launch anything that was on there. It sucked and it was confusing and looked like it was trying way way too hard to be like Tumblr. Honestly, if you want people to use a website, don't copy another one.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for switching it back!
The only thing that I really disliked about it was the scrolling feature!

latinabutterfly said...

Very sad to say that some of the features on the site will not actually be used. I found some to be pretty cool. Oh well, I wasn't upset. Change is good. No big deal on my part. I just love to Poly! Ha

That's understandable, but just a request.. please don't mess with the My Home page anymore, the "Dashboard" features upset everyone I knew last night. We like how the My Home is right now and would like it to not be changed anymore than it already has been, it changes too often and it's hard to get used to and be comfortable with

thanks poly.
this means alot. but you don't have to change for us.

I went to bed all upset about the changes and dreaded coming back to site in the morning, but what a wonderful surprise!!! All was back to normal!! I feel home again! THANK YOU FOR LISTENING!! There was one cool feature I liked during the "accidental changes"...and that was to have a button to see all the other comments on a set I had commented. That was really cool. I hope you guys can add that again. That is without changing the current layout completely of course!;) Thanks Polyvore! Have a fabulous day! xx

"accident"??

Anonymous said...

i liked the "ask" box in the profiles, except when i went to type it disappeared! but i think you should bring that back if it would work!

Anonymous said...

We must have scared the bloody hell out of you with the facebook posts and your Polyvore account and I think some people posted to the blog I'm glad the old home is back but I did like some of the changes like how it was more about Fashion. That's one of the biggest things polyvore is Fashion. It's for expression yes but mainly fashion. But if i could say something that I know users have been asking forever the "Online and Offline". If you could make that happen I would love it.

Shealey said...

Thank you Polyvore. :) I love Polyvore the way it is, and I don't want it to change. The misfire layout was much too confusing.

P&P said...

thank you, but i LOVED the new homepage layout! it was so much easier to view and fave sets!

Anonymous said...

The only thing about the new layout was the ask button.

Anonymous said...

That is awesome thanks 4 changing it back!!!

Anonymous said...

The change was easier to give favs out to sets, but it took up too much space on the home page.
Also, the textures still are not as they were before. A lot of people make texture sets and can't use a lot of things because they come out differently than before. It would be wonderful if you could try to fix that for all the textured art people here on Polyvore.

Ducktape said...

I am glad everything's back to normal and thank you for your sincerest apologies. I know more people who disliked it then did, but knowing it was a giant mix-match of stuff makes me realize more why it was so confuzing.

Anonymous said...

Oh. Thank. Goodness. *happy sigh* Back to loving Polyvore again.

Anonymous said...

thank god you changed it back!! pleasee do NOT chamge the layout of the "my home" page.

Natalie Howell said...

I liked being able to see my contacts' recent sets displayed so prominently on my home page. However, I did not like the fact that I was unable to find the thumbnail view/pages of all of my contacts sets. I use that feature to page thru sets looking for less recent ones I may have missed by not logging in for a couple of days. Please consider enabling both features in future rollouts.

Anonymous said...

No worries! Thank you! Love you!!

InvaderZim_:P said...

that's ok, thank you for considering us, the polyvore members. but just remember that sometimes change isn't good, especially when unneccesary. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
i like the current design and i don't think you should change it. the whole "followers" thing is ridicules and unneccesary. why turn everything into a competition? i like having "contacts" as my friends and not followers. and i'm pretty sure many would agree with me.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for changing it back! I like it the original way SO much better!

gillian said...

Why not just make the page completely customizable?

Because what irks me the most is that patronising "people you might like". Your "suggestions" are ALWAYS wrong and I can find my own contacts, thank you very much. Same with the craptastic "style advice". Waste of space. Make it an FAQ and you won't have clueless newbies wondering why they can't do this or that.

Saralee said...

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I am in love with Polyvore once again! Thank you for listening to all of our complaints.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the list of contests now !

Anonymous said...

I actually quite liked the home page.

Anonymous said...

The original is way better and I really missed the "Explore" tab, but thanks for keeping the Follower option!

Polyvorian said...

Thanks! :) I enjoyed some of it- i really liked the stats bar. But I thought the Red Bubble was too much like Tumblr! Stay original, Polyvore!

Dayle D Ann said...

you did NOT change the new dashboard except put the HOME button back!
The contact & comments buttons are gone necessitating long scrolls to repay kind Polyvoreans. The announcement button is totally gone.
I understand the mindset after checking out Polyvore's exec's biz reference, education & such & I think it's a shame that in your need to progress, the best y'all can do is take away ease of movement & referencing just to have a current "look"!

Lalaland said...

I am also upset that this upsets you because how it upsets us. LOL Thanks Polyvore, we love you!

Anonymous said...

I think some people are saying the liked the misfire. Then you should have the layouts be an option. Because a lot of people also didn't like the misfire.

Anonymous said...

Ok.. well thank you for changing it back :)

Anonymous said...

Thank youuu!!!!!

Anonymous said...

:) It's all good now! ;)
We all have the human right to fail and the human duty to redeem.

Very nice and kind of you the way you treat such matters with kind a "parental sensitivity" and attention, that really make one feels like home.
Even if you'll fail again you guys will still be rocking on my world, at least.
Cheers team.

Thanks for letting us know but some features rocked! The dashboard was awesome, the way the groups were grouped was cool also. The misfire had lots of perks that I would like to see in the future. The dashboard filtering was the best, not to mention the "Contests I joined" feature. Thanks for caring about our opinion x0x0

kylie_theFASHIONnerd said...

I actually really liked the changes. It's a lot more modern and simple.

JulietaV said...

Don't worry!!! Some of the features were great and I also think that change is good, even if it takes time to adjust to it :D, the way we could see the contests and the dashboard were great!! thanks for letting us know what happened!!

Darn! I really loveedd the changes last night, once I got over the shock lol. I really like all the changes Polyvore has made, and can't believe that some people have gotten so upset just because of some organizational changes!

To take the time and post your concern for how the POLYVORE community feels is a sign of excellence and high quality customer service. Bravo Polyvore team, and thank you for caring!!!

sarahsaurus said...

Oh thank goodness the old profiles are back. I really hated the new change, and sent a (probably less than polite, and for that I apologise) feedback form in panic.

I really appreciate how Polyvore takes the time to communicate with its members on matters like these. I can't think of a single other company who would do such a thing!

When you do decide to roll it out though, might it be feasible to make it optional? I find that it just overly complicates things and I gave up on trying to create anything or look at anyone's sets because of it. I would hate for that to become the defining feature of Polyvore.

Kelly said...

I hated the changes last night, the follower count was cool..but that was about it. I like having my followers sets on my homepage where I can go view them and everything else right there. Also, with the snafu last night, I noticed where do you go to "explore" the new sets, etc? I love Poly the way it is, maybe implement just the follower count and the graph of your views. Other than that, I hated everything else....

Stream said...

Thanks so much for always taking into account our opinions, it was so weird because I had different changes going on my two accounts so that was even more confusing. I lobe the my homepage design I would really hate to see major changes there, specially since it has changed so many times before and now it finally seems to be working for most of us. The ask feature on each contact's profile is really terrible and the whole idea od followers too. I mean maybe with a different and more discrete design that could work too, but not in the way it was proposed. I really felt lost. Thanks again for listening and for the clarification.

Angelafaye said...

agree, some of the changes were not bad.
Thanks for this site, I really enjoy making sets!! :D

Angelafaye said...

Also, the only concern I have is that I can not post my recent set to my blogger.
thanks

Anonymous said...

Honestly, i LOVED the new change, without the dashboard though. It was super easy to work with, & gave an easy way to fave contact's sets. I THINK YOU SHOULD SET IT AS THAT SOON. I know so many people hated it or whatever, but I did too when i first saw it! But now, i LOVE IT. It's super amazing (: Hopefully you can set it back to that soon, but make it permanet, to let people cool off and realize the AMAZINGNESS of the new homepage. Thanks polyvore, you really made my night! & If you set it for permanetly.. well you would make my polyvore LIFE (:

Anonymous said...

I Couldn't Stand that layout.
Thanks so much for changing it back!!!!
The huge contact set's make it much harder to see them.
And the set views graph was pointless.

EllaThrasha said...

Thanks for letting us know and changing it back! It was disorienting with so many changes at once. I would definitely love to have a quick button to see all of the contests in my groups at once like the one featured last night!

You guys cry and whine so freaking much! Get over it. Polyvore has the right to make any changes it wants. If you dont like it LEAVE! Other than that DEAL!
The newer "dashboard" was really cool. It made it muuuch easier to see sets and like them. I hope you guys bring that back :) Keep up the good work Polyvore. Don't let all these crybabies get to ya!

So glad it was just a mistake! I forgive you...we all make mistakes. :)

thanks I really didn't like the change.

thank you so much for changing it back, polyvore! it's a lot easier to use than the misfire.

I have a word of advice Polyvore.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Anonymous said...

Loved the mountain graph (small things, but I had fun) wasnt a big fan of the Gigantic Sets on the side

Anonymous said...

I think y'all should make an Offline and Online button...:)

mrsbeamer said...

I really did like the feature which showed contacts sets on your home page where you can fav directly. A nice addition to that would be to include a comments box there too. That would be fantastic.

Anonymous said...

I loved the changes! Pleaaase change it to that.. I LOVED it.. It was much easier!

Anonymous said...

No problem! But, the change is right! I was so easy view and like the contact´s sets! Love this! Please! make the change soon!

Anonymous said...

Thanks so much for fixing that layout and going back to our normal one. I didn't like it too much, but there was one thing I did enjoy: I really liked seeing the statistics of how I was doing that month. I thought it was really cool, and I liked seeing how I've improved over the course of the few weeks. I also thought calling it "dashboard" was clever too. :) But what I like about this regular home is that you can see several contacts' sets at once and see what they liked as well. Thank you Polyvore, for fixing that misfire! :)

Anonymous said...

I actually really liked it... I love seeing how many favs or set views I got on the little graph thingy and the comments you haven't seen in a different color and when some one comments or messages you showing up in red! I was like OH!! It made it easier...

Anonymous said...

Hey dearest Poly-Team =) After three years you should know that I love you sooo much. Thats because I am not upset I just was confused and shocked in the early morning (Germany ;) ) yesterday. I can understand that you wanna make your page always better and better and changings are good - as long as the community can stand with them - and thats what´s important on Polyvore. I know you care about our´s opinion - I know it! So please continue being so amazing. Thank you also for the great platform for Artists. We are happy for each day we can spread our word on Polyvore - We are very thankful! I hope you will read this ´cause I wanted to say this for a long time. Thank you so much! You saved my life =D XOXO from sunny Kiel in Northgermany, C.

We should actually use that layout, truly.Under ten minutes,I already knew what I was doing and being able to view sets easier from all contacts under one list gave me the privledge to fav other's sets at more accurate tempo.I believe you guys should launch tho, whenever you plan to that is. :)

I've been on Polyvore for about 3 years now, and just recently I created a fashion account. I made it about a month ago and as soon as I created it I had the new My Home and I REALLY REALLY don't like it. Can you fix the My Home for people who just recently signed up? Because I find it unfair that you're changing some peoples but not others. The new people care too...

Good but PLEASE don't change the my Home page! Or at least give us the option of the old version, we like it as is!

I LOVED the personal stats chart! would love to see that come back! :)

MissChewey1997 said...

i know i didnt see that whole feature thing but heres something that i know bothers me about polyvore is that when you scroll through peoples sets it doesnt start you at the latest set they made it starts you at a random spot and idk if im the only one who is annoyed by that but it is kind of a huge bother for me. thanks for the change back though :)

Anonymous said...

Thank you for changing it back! I really did love how easy it was the like a set though, it made Polyvore feel a bit more social and it was quite simple to use. On the other hand, I felt that it was a bit overdone with the sudden change of the Messages, Comments, Clipper etc. moving to the right. It didn't feel or look right and I'm sure that many other members agree with me.

It is ok, it is nornam to make miskakes sometimes, you did so many good things, that this one mistake does not mean anything !I appreciate your effort to be a better and better every day, and you realy are !!! I realy love beeing on Polyvore !

I'm glad you apologized but please don't change your site.

Anonymous said...

Thank you soooooooooooooooooo much! It really lets me trust polyvore when you make a post like this, because i know you care. most sites would just fix it and pretend it never happened!

FrowzyLuridPilferingSmudgebucket said...

I for the most part disliked the homepage changes, but some things were sort of cool, like the stats bar That's really the only thing I particularly liked. Please don't ever change it back to a dashboard(this was the part I absolutely hated), I already dislike tumblr, and I like poly too much for it to become so similar. I mean, if you do make changes on the homepage, I'd hope you could make them optional, "check the box if you want it" changes. I would absolutely *love* online and offline indications. And of course, since I specialize in art sets, pushing the item limit to seventy-five or a hundred would be the single best change polyvore could make. Thank you so much for notifying all of us that it was a mistake, though. Polyvore, so long as you stay your unique original self, I will always love you.

I actually liked it, and I love the viewer graph, that you had, I think you should give people the option, on which layout they want, like some people might want the old one, they can have it, and the people who want the new can have the new one.

thecleveridiot said...

Oh dear haha! Although to be honest, it would be nice to still have that new homepage but also an option to change back to the 'old' one if need be- or maybe the option to move each thing (Contacts Sets etc) to the middle or side (like with the profile settings)- because the new homepage did actually have some nice features like being able to view/fave other people's sets easily, but most of us like the comfort of the old homepage lol xD Sooo, just a suggestion? =]

Thank you for changing it back, it really freaked me out. I like the layout the way it is, I find it easy to use and it gets the job done, it isn't a dandy of a layout.

I liked that new layout, but it was too fast, we never expected such a big change so everyone reacted to it.. I am glad you got back to the old layout because I got used to that for over 2 years now, and it's a lot more easier for me. But I didn't dislike the new one either, we could get used to it really soon :) People should be more open to change once in a while and stop reacting so daaaaa*mn aggressive :) Have a great day!

Just one thing about the latest changes on the activity summary: could you include in the stats set usages, contest wins and collection likes with a link to the list of them? It seems to me now you have to go to the Activity summary link to choose the specific type of activity you want and then go to another page. It's slower to check out those things. Any way in which that can be improved would be great. Thanks.

thegossiplook said...

I made a new profile and it hasn't contact's sets. It's running on the new "my home". It's very difficult to comment on the beautiful sets of my contacts... Is it normal?

Anonymous said...

where do I check other people's comments on my sets now?!

Anonymous said...

I think the actual way to see the contact´s sets is not functional when you have a huge number (> 100) of contacts.

The "new" Polyvore must fix that.

Thanks.

Coil packs sometimes feel like a crap shoot. If you swapped packs and the code follows the coil pack, the you have your answer. However, if the misfires stays, the problem can be in the coil pack harness. This is also a common problem on older cars. Dint know how to help on the trans, just know that the tips suck. obviously finding it hard to find the freshness they have usually maintained with astonishing consistancy over the last three and a half years.
