Now Live! Personal Domains and Tagging

Personal Domains & Tagging are Here!

Personal domains are here!
Thanks to all of you who submitted your user name selections over the last couple of weeks. We're excited to announce that personal domains are now live. For those of you who did not get a chance to choose a name, we've assigned one for you. But don't worry, you each have an opportunity to change your user name once -- so choose wisely because it is permanent! Please also remember that your user name and domain name are the same.

Tag your friends in set descriptions and comments using @!
Now that each of you has a unique user name, we've also launched our new tagging feature! We've come across many of your birthday dedication sets and tag challenges, so we're really excited about this feature. With tagging, you can mention other Polyvore users in your set descriptions, comments, and Q&A and they'll be notified in their activity stream when you do. You no longer have to PM your friends to let them know you created a set for them! To tag someone, just type the '@' symbol and then enter their user name. For users that you follow, there will be an auto-complete drop down to help you easily select their name.

We hope you enjoy your personal domain and the new tagging feature! As always, feel free to let us know what you think in the comment section. If you've been online tonight, you may have noticed a few hiccups during the rollout of this new feature, like mis-assigned names or broken links. We're very sorry about that. Our team is still here in the office working late to fix it -- please be patient with us!

Love,
The Polyvore Team

WE WANT THE OLD POLYVORE BACK.

Well, I really didn't like the idea of the permanent user name at first because you can't use symbols and all that but I think this tagging thing with the @ is very nice. I haven't tried yet but it sounds good.

Who freaking cares about the stupid domains and tagging!! THE ONLY THING WE WANTED WAS THE 50 ITEM LIMIT CHANGED!!! CHANGE THAT THEN MAYBE WE COULD TALK! Deuce.

Dear Polyvore,
I WANT THE OLD POLYVORE BACK!I HATE THE FACT YOU CAN'T EXPRESS YOURSELF WITH SYMBOLS IN YOUR USERNAME OR CHANGE YOUR USERNAME AFTER YOU CHANGE IT ONE TIME!I DO LIKE THE THING ABOUT THE @ THING ,BUT STILL CHANGE IT BACK WERE YOU CAN HAVE SYMBOLS IN YOUR USERNAME AND CAN CHANGE WHEN EVER YOU WANT!I DO NOT LIKE ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT POLYVORE ANYMORE!I HOPE YOU CHANGE IT BACK.

seriously... i dont like I WANT THE OLD POLYVORE <333 i mean thanks for your hard work and stuff but you really should see what people are saying, not a lot of us like it... thank you for your hard work though :)

I'm happy with the change. Now make an iPad app so I can create sets on it and I'll be in heaven ;)

Anonymous said...

I'm actually okay with the tagging its cool but I hate the permantent user name because what if my personality changes? what if I want to redo my account and I want to potray something different on my account? I don't want the same user name dragging me down and confusing people. I want to be creative with my name and add symbols and smiley face and fun new changes. I don't want to be held back. So I WANT OLD POLYVORE BACK

Anonymous said...

It's a great idea, but could you possibly consider bringing back symbols and capital leters in our usernames? It lets us showcase our creativity.
Thank you for the domain names, though. It's so much easier.

Anonymous said...

Love the change, I think tagging will be awesome :)

WE WANT THE OLD POLYVORE BACK!

I can't believe that we can only change the domain name once!! We should be able to change it when we want to. Or at least more than once! Very very disappointing Polyvore!! I hate the fact that we can't use capitals in the name. My name makes no sense without the capitals and now I'M STUCK WITH IT since I tried to change it once already by trying to add capital letters to it! HATE THIS SO MUCH!!

Anonymous said...

pretty please bring back the old polyvore. i REALLY dislike having a permanent username, especially where we can't even add symbols or anything. tagging is probably good, but seriously, we have lived without it for this long! and i really don't like the domain i got, can i possibly change it somehow?
so please polyvore, you see all the angry people that want the old polyvore back, this new one seriously sucks. I don't think you have even gotten one good comment about it!

Anonymous said...

Polyvore, I've been a member for two years. I love the website and I don't intend to leave. I know it wouldn't matter if I did, because I'm just one member, I don't mean anything. I like the updates, I just don't think all the details should be the way they are.

1. I don't think the domains should be permanent. Tumblr has domains, but theirs aren't permanent so I just don't see why Polyvore's have to be.

2. The tagging thing, I think it's really cool, I just don't really see the point if you aren't notified on your homepage? It doesn't make much sense to me. But, I probably wouldn't use it anyway so whatever.

3. I don't see why we can't have symbols in our usernames and our usernames be different than our domains.

But, I really love polyvore, I miss it being how it was.

I really hope that the staff takes into consideration the opinions on this. To me it looked like more people were against it than for it.

If you take the time to so much as read this I'll be extremely grateful.

I'm not a fan of the personal domain thing, I liked being able to change my username, and use symbols and such. I wish that you hadn't changed that, but I do like the tagging feature.

thanks

I think this is a great idea :) it was very confusing with the symbols and the changing of usernames because you could never find anyone ahah :) x

I love the tagged to, although i must say i havent quite used it yet, but i sure will in the future :) xx

i like the tagging feature, but i DON'T like the fact that you can't have symbols in your username and that we will only be able to change it ONCE !!

Greetings Polyvore Team,

I am fan of personal domains and tagging, that was a great idea. However, I do agree with what some other have posted, and that is being able to change our usernames and use caps and symbols in our usernames. I agree that not being able to do so does seem to put a limit on our creativity. As one person said, what if our personality/mood changes? Our username is one way to reflect that. Domain names should be permanent, but usernames should be flexible. Sidenote: Would it be possible to make it so that we could submit our sets into more than 5 groups at a time? I suggest being able to submit sets into at least 10 groups. This would be especially helpful for those who are wanting to gain set visibility, faves, and contacts. Thanks for all of your hard work! :=) XOXO

Is this the reason why we can't add any contacts at the moment???

Dear Bette said...

I'm loving the new changes, my polyvore profile domain now matches that of my blog and tumblelog so my followers can easily find me, I'm looking forward to seeing what other progressions you may have up your sleeve.

Anonymous said...

Well, I think that new polyvore is fantastic! I like the idea of permanent user names and I also like tagging with @.
All you who hate these changes: they won't change it back! Deal with it.

Anonymous said...

Honestly....we appreciate all the hard work but couldn't you at least make this optional? Sure it's just usernames, but part of Polyvore's originality and personality in members came from all of our usernames. I think you should at least make the name that shows up for everyone to see be our original, symbol filled name. Can't you make the entire thing optional? I know a lot of people who loved their numbers, too.

Anonymous said...

How are we supposed to tag people when we don't know who's who anymore BECAUSE YOU MADE US ALL CHANGE OUR USERNAMES
I miss my old one with a symbol and a semicolon and spaces
I would like it back now.

Anonymous said...

You want to keep your members for many years, right?

Well, when I grow up, then I will want to change my username to something more sophisticated and grown up.
But I won't be able to.
And I'm just saying that this being permanent is a bad idea.
You said that we will have separate usernames and domains. I miss mu original username :/

Thank you Polyvore . ://

Anonymous said...

THANK YOU very much Polyvore for the changes.

I love the tags and the Domains make it sooooo much easier to find my friends.

I REALLY LOVE IT.

If you would give me a possibility to search in my saved items by color and category and a way to save the templates I use most it would be perfect to me.

Anonymous said...

I wish people would stop saying that WE want the old Poly back cause I don't and I see many other positive comments here.

So Thank You Poly team for making Polyvore better.

I think the tag thing and the domains are great

Anonymous said...

polyvore seriously!
we all love showing our creativity by changing our usernames whenever we feel like it. to match a song that's stuck in our head, or to change with our mood. it's one of my favourite things. i feel really happy, i change my polyvore name. please, please, please reconsider this. i think we'd all love you forever.
however, the tagging thing? pure genius. i love it! it makes it so much easier!!!!!!!!!! :D

Anonymous said...

I'm not a huge fan of the permanent user name thing but I think we all just need to get used to it honestly. Sites change all the time so people need to understand polyvore is just trying to expand and make their members happy.
I know I'll get used to it eventually
I do miss the symbols though.
Thanks for the lovely changes I'll look forward to the status, tagging, and other things to come.
Thanks,

Guys, stop whining. This change has taken hours and hours of coding, and now you're being pathetic complainers? Seriously guys, get over yourselves. Imagine you having to code all this stuff and then take it down because some hormonal crowed of teenagers doesn't like it. I hated it at first, but now I think it's very cool. I especially love the @tagging system.

its no big deal that you can't have symbols. and poly bot is good, you shouldn't be saying anything bad.

Amanda said...

I don't mean to sound rude, but why don't you fix things that are actually a problem for us, like the 50 item limit, or a working ipad/iphone/ipod touch app. We don't like those things very much, so why not change them instead of changing things we do like, like our symbols.

Anonymous said...

Polyvore, I get that your'e trying to make the site better and everything, but honestly, every time you make a change we just want the old Polyvore back! I woke up this morning to a username that I don't like, it's plain and boring without being able to use spaces. And the display name doesn't help.. it's just a little box next to the username? What use is that?! PLEASE GIVE US THE OLD USERNAME FREEDOM BACK! But keep the domain name, and tagging, THOSE are brilliant ideas :)

Anonymous said...

I don't understand why people are so aggravated? This thing was posted yesterday and people are getting angry with the glitches--and people are always not good for change, I personally don't want the old polyvore back, I think this is a brilliant idea. So please don't use "we" when you're not sure that everyone wants Polyvore the old way. The only thing I have found is that I can't add contacts from their profiles? But I'm sure that's simply temporary. Great job, Polyvore! And I like how the comment box expands!

Anonymous said...

I love the idea of tagging, but permanent usernames are gonna kill me. Why couldn't we have permanent domains but our usernames still be fun with symbols and stuff!):

Jasmine said...

I know a lot of people are leaving negative comments, and they should- it lets you know their oppinion and gives you feedback- BUT, I think they should be a little nicer and appreciate what you have done. You are just trying to make our Polyvore experience better and we should be appreciative of all you do and the fact that Polyvore exists- AND FOR FREE! (: Thanks Polyvore <3

You've changed the language in the personal domains! I always use english and now it's nederlands. That's ridiculous! I haven't found a section in the Settings where I can change it back. This is not funny!!

Anonymous said...

I've been on here for a long time, and I think that qualifies me to say that not all changes are for the better. I like the old Polyvore better. New Poly isn't entirely bad, but the old one is better.

Chelsea said...

I hate this feature. Unfortunately, I'm going to leave Polyvore unless you change it back. I really don't want to, but I just CANNOT get used to this idea.

The domain thing is great, the tagging is okay, but I hate the fact that I can't change the username. Sorry guys D:

All we wanted changed was the 50 item limit. Why not give us some say in how the website is changed? Like polls and surveys etc.

I dislike my name - I am aware that I picked it but, I had the same simple name for 3 years, would it be so bad to let us use a ♥ symbol? while tagging, and like for the url it just say the word ♥ ..

Anonymous said...

um, okay. so i'm not big on the whole permanent user name idea, but it's done now, so there's nothing we can do about it anymore, although, we WOULD APPRECIATE if we could at least use symbols, and punctuation in our display name, that would be swell, thanks. what we CAN do, however, is ask for a higher item limit, i beg you, please. how about 100? or at least 75? this has been really bugging us for a long time, and for me, at least, it's a real problem, because i like making mosaic sets, and those don't always stay within the 50 item limit, you know. and if you clip a set, and then try to finish it, it just ends up looking really bad.

so, please? puntuation for display names and higher item limit?

thank you.

hey polyvore!!
at first i didn't like the idea of the permanent username... i thought "what if i mess up or want to change it later?" well i hope we could change it like once a month or something? because i like changing my username to the same thing just with some different endings like "new group" or stuff... i also don't like that we can't put any symbols in our name. i think that one of the main parts of polyvore that everyone loves is that you can express yourself with the different symbols :) i LOVE the tagging and having our names in the address bar :D thanks for that.. but i really hope you can make the usernames not be permanent, and that we can add symbols. other than that, I LOVE IT!!

Anonymous said...

Most of you who are saying you "LOVE it" are most likely new polyvore members and don't understand how Polyvore use too be. Most people used polyvore because it's the only website that you could put a heart at the end of your name.

Anonymous said...

I think tagging is a good idea for polyvore. But I still don't like the idea of permanent usernames. You should really listen to what polyvore users want improved, I think you should be improving the editor.

Anonymous said...

I love the @'s but I want to change our usernames again ):

Anonymous said...

Polyvore,
I've been a member for over 3 years now. i remember when the profile was simple and showed our sets in little boxes under our profile name and description and what not. I really liked that design better, actually. I've had to adapt to all these changes that you guys have been makin to the site. I'm now over the whole profile thing. But this permanent domain thing, I will never get used to. Over 3 years I've changed my name probably over 15 times and I liked that I could switch things up. Please consider either making the domain names changable, or not having domains at all.

Thanks,
Jamie

polyvore,

let's say someone got like ______bieber. so she loves justin bieber NOW, but what if she doesn't after awhile. she's stuck with that forever.

i personally like the old usernames better. they look better and they give us creativity with our names.

ArtfulAlchemist said...

I think the changes are great! It seems like the biggest complaints are about wanting to change the name, use capital letters, use symbols, etc. Wouldn't the "status" option you mentioned before allow someone to do that? The user name would remain the same, but all that "what if my personality changes" and "i want my creativity" stuff could be handled in the status field. Are you still planning to add that?

Anonymous said...

Guys, stop acting like freakin Republicans. It's a great addition. You'll find it helpful.

Anonymous said...

I like the tagging and the domain. I think it would make more sense if the big name at the top was the display name, and the little name was our user name. The symbols is what i really miss...

Bridg(: said...

I cant tell just by the comments that the people complaining about this are teenagers. I am too, but seriously people, be respectful. Do you honestly think that by typing in huge caps & demanding stuff that they wanna listen to you? No. So be respectful. I like the personal domains, however, I do wish we could change our usernames when we wanted. But I like the tagging thing. Maybe we tag people by their domain, so that people can be able to change their username when they want to.

Anonymous said...

At first I thought this change would suck and I'd hate it, but now I think I chose my username wisely enough, and I don't really change it a lot anyways. Would I like symbols back? Yeah. But I don't completely hate the change. The tagging thing is cool. Maybe we can work on that item limit now?

Esdras said...

I thought I was picking a domain name only. I didn't realise it counted as a user name change too. I liked the one I had before and I didn't want to change it. I don't see why they have to be permanent. What does it matter if anyone wants to change their name? I'm very unhappy right now and wish that Polyvore would put the name change option back.

Anonymous said...

Thank you so much for all your hardwork ...

Kelcee said...

I love the fact that we can tag. I really, really do. However, I would like to change my username whenever the urge strikes me. This is NOT letting us express our creativity, and it kind of pisses me off a little. I couldn't change my username to what I wanted, and now it sucks. Plus, it's ugly!

Anonymous said...

Overall the changes were pretty good. The tagging is nice, but also you can annoy people to no end because if they're your friend they will just keep tagging you and tagging you and it get's annoying for some people. I think though that the permanent Username thing defeats the purpose of Polyvore. Aren't we supposed to be able to express ourselves on here? Find new ways to be creative and fun? Our usernames represented a little of who we are. Some of us had symbols and different fonts and things in our usernames, it showed everyone what type of person you were and what type of an account you were going to have. Sure, this makes things easier to talk to people, but the creativity is gone. Personally, because of the username thing I could do without the tagging. It's really not that big of a deal for me.

I do appreciate all your efforts in trying to make things better though. It's nice to have such a good website team trying to help us out, especially because we get everything for free. But I just disagree with this change.

I hope you take what I've said into consideration. I know I'm one in forty but still, maybe it'll help a bit.

-Nikki.

This is great, thank you so much! And to everyone who wants the "old" polyvore back, stop complaining! If we never make changes how do you expect Polyvore to improve and try out new features? Instead of freaking out over every little detail on this site, try to embrace the change. You might like it. And seriously, it is just a website, after all. No need to yell in all caps about how your life is ruined because of a change in domain name.

I agree, if our names weren't
the same as our domains it would
be cooler and if we could change
them more than once i'd be cool
with it but i don't like not
having symbols in my name so
can you fix that for us? it's
just the site names that bother
everyone.. if we could have both
i'm sure everyone would love it.

I like the domain idea, THAT'S COOL, but why can't we change it? It's seriously not that difficult to let us change it whenever we want. Why are you being so "YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR NAME ONE TIME?"
I most likely won't change my domain name but it seems a bit unfair to people that like changing it.

Also, why does our username have to be our domain name?
That doesn't make much sense either.

It's kind of funny to me that the ONLY username with a capital letter is Polyvore's account.

HOORAY TO EQUALITY!

wambliwakan said...

I appreciate that Polyvore is always trying to innovate and make things better for us. But I would appreciate more changes that make things easier to use, rather than things that no one has asked for.

For example, remove the 50 item limit, make our items searchable by color and designer, add the ability to delete item tags that we are no longer using, add clear tutorials that are easy to find on the features of Polyvore and how to use them, and give us the ability to search our contacts (oops, now they're called followers and followees, right?) for a specific person/profile.

Thank you for your consideration.

It's really a split opinion between those who stick to one name (Me) and those who like to change theirs frequently. I'm fairly happy with the change (I suppose I'll get used to the lower case D. I'm just picky) the tagged idea is great, the domain is kinda useful. I'll get used to the whole change soon.

A Polyvore app for iPad2 would be perfection! Please make one!! :))

I like that we can tag people and everything but i dont like that Capital Letters and Symbols cant be used in the users. I think Old Polyvore should come back! Its better because you dont have to STAY with a user, YOU DONT EVEN SIGN IN WITH IT? so why does it need to permanent?

I like that we now have domains because I think its alot easier to access our profile as well as others, and if I tell others my polyvore profile.
-I understand people's views about the symbols, and I think that you should make it so their domain can be different as their username on polyvore.
Example: My domain can be channchann but my POLYVORE name can be channchann with symbols around it or something!

Just a suggestion to clear it up for others!
thanks for the cool new things on polyvore!

rose said...

at first i wasn't so sure about the chaning everyone's name to one specific thing. but i actually really like it now that i've seen it and gotten a chance to work with it. the tagged feature will definitely come in handy for me because i'm always getting tagged.

i think everyone should just sit back and let it sink in for a while before they start complaining. sometimes change can be a good thing. and i really like that you guys are trying something new out and that will be useful to all the users.

Anonymous said...

I can't believe how butthurt people are getting over not being able to add cutesy symbols and spaces in their username. The domain names are clean and lovely looking in my URL bar, and I think it's a nice way to tidy up the site, and much easier for me to access my friends off the top of my head. The tagging feature is also delightful, I can't wait to give it a try!
Also, we still have a display name feature, can't you just work with that if you are so inclined to? People leaving PV over this are better off gone; I don't want someone throwing such a fit over something so reasonable to comment or favorite my sets, anyway. :/

Grow up and put your big girl panties on, ladies and gents!

Anonymous said...

Honestly!!! Stop wailing already.. we want it back, we want it back... It's done already. And what's wrong to have your own domaine name permanent? What are you guys? Multiple personality cases? Take a name a stick to it, it's easier to followup on people too when they don't change their names constantly.
Find other ways to express yourself, at least you are at the right place.
Changing your name all time means you are unstable....
Go change it on your birth certificate every time you are in different mood... and let's what will happened

Be creative in your sets, thats the reason you are here.
Have fun

To Polyvore:
Great job . keep up

P.S. I posted mine on my Facebook now I hope more ppl can come and join this AWESOME site!

Thank you (p.s.s. Don't mind the hatred comments.) you guys don't need symbols your usernames should be professional. (no last names if you want)

The personal domains and tagging don't bother or affect me at all but I know almost everyone has expressed that they're opposed to the idea of personal domains and I feel like the polyvore staff have completely ignored this, surely it would be easier to leave everything as it was if it pleased people.

I honestly love that you like trying new things, but I wish we could still have our own unique usernames. With these, we cant use capitol letters, _ or -, &, of any other symbols, such as ♥, ☻, ☺, etc. I wish you would stop trying NEW things, and work on what we want taken off, such as the 50 item limit. Thank you for reading this<3

Listen polyvore. Its nice your trying new things and is trying to get polyvore big and stuff but STOP. Like omg this is not fackbook or twitter or tumbler so stop trying to ruin polyvore by making it like that its really annoying.
Sincerely, Most Polyvorians.

P.s polyvore will never be as big as those websites so dont even try and be happy its as big as it already is.

yay for polyvore turning to e e cummings for inspiration. why have the option to capitalize? all lower case all the time is so much more hip.

I really like the idea of tagging but the permanent username is not something i like. this is supposed to be a creative site where i can express myself even through my username. I can't anymore. It can't change as my style changes and I cant use awesome shapes or characters anymore just letters and number this is awful i want old polyvore back!!!!

Charlotte said...

I luv it! I`ve been so tried of having to always send messages to the people that i tagged.

Anonymous said...

I, personally, was indifferent towards these changes. I would have liked to have a username with symbols but I did not care one way or another. I don't think taking symbols away are taking our creativity away. That's a lousy excuse. Your creativity rests in your sets, not your username. The downfall is that you don't know who's who now. But I think that tagging will be great. I

Anonymous said...

Love the change! Thank you polyvore :) But for the tagging thing it doesn't come up on your home page so it would be good if it came up on the homepage. For those people who says its taking your creativity away, YOUR CREATIVITY IS NOT IN YOUR NAME ITS IN THE SETS YOU MAKE!

kirkland said...

The idea of a URL similar to that of blogger, tumblr, ect was a brilliant idea. HOWEVER, the idea of it being permanent is completely unfair and ridiculous. Tumblr (despite crashing more than a computer with a virus) manages to allow their users to change their URLs daily if they so please.

Polyvore, I BEG OF YOU, please, please, PLEASE update your servers to allow this. You're a major site, even featured in major publications such as NYLON, you should be able to procure such servers.

Anonymous said...

No, I do not mind the URLs. I actually quite love them and think they are brilliant. What I do mind are the determinant user names.
I think they are quite awful. I do not mean to be a downer, but I am thinking of leaving because I do not want to see what else you will throw at us after the constant thoughts and ideas put out there for you to see. I find it amazing how you have completely ignored the pleas of many of the Polvore members which you so "want to please." I find it ignorant and foolish to continue on with a plan when people have loudly voiced what they think time and time again to you, yet you push them away with "your view." Yes, this is your site and all, BUT the idea is to KEEP as many people as you can NOT to DISAPPOINT them time over and again. This has caused quite an uproar of opinions and emotions. Maybe a way of voting would be best? So that you can see what would best please the cast amount of people who rely on this site to vent, put out creative works of art, and express their inner self in ways they feel they can't anywhere else.
But what does my opinion matte? I am just a 14 year old girl who is not such a proud user of Polyvore now.

Anonymous said...

This is stupid. I want to express myself and change my Polyvore whenever I want. that's why i chose this site over others. If I want to tag someone, i'll go to Facebook or Twitter. Polyvore's where I come for creativity, and now you're taking that away.

Anonymous said...

Well, personally I would like to have caps and symbols in my name as well as be able to change it, but I like the tagging bit. I do think some folks are being....ahem..a little unecesarily ugly about it, but then again it is hard to read tone in someones text.

jurassikjessikahh said...

POLYVORE, please change it back. That's all we want. We want symbols and stuff back in our names. The only thing we wanted to change was the 50 item limit. We should be able to have as much as we want in our sets. We should be able to change our names as much as we want. And be able to add symbols or different lettering. It's kind of like taking away the right to breathe. Just think about it. This permanet user name crap is ridiculous. CHANGE IT BACK. The persoal domains and whatever is nice and all,but come on now. This site is supposed to be about creativity right? You basically just destroyed that. So good job. We know you're trying to improve the site, but will you at least listen to us for once? A lot of people are upset by this. Just look at what people are posting. Listen to us.

To be honest, I really don't like the whole permanent name thing. Polyvore is all about expressing yourself and I think that a lot people use their usernames to do that. It's really hard for me to just stick to one username. I'm always changing it because my interests are always changing. I really like being able to use symbols and all of that in my username. My making these changes with the name changes and the tagging, you're becoming like Tumblr and Facebook. And that's one of the reasons that I love Polyvore, because it's not like either of those websites. And I know that a lot of people aren't happy with these changes. I know that you work really hard on making these changes, but personally, me and a lot of other Polyvore users would appreciate if you let us be able to change our usernames whenever we want and be able to use symbols again.

I want my name back! It USED to be Baby-Doll Gone Wrong with capitals, spaces, a dash... but NOOO you guys decided to stupidly change it! I hate it! Change it back! I'm really mad and the only thing good about the change is the tagging!
You're taking away our creativity by a permanent user name and that's what this site was made for, right? CREATIVITY.
I've been on this site for two years and not once have I changed my name because I love it. But now, I hate it! You took away the one thing that I loved about my profile, my user name idea!
If you wanna have a GOOD idea that people actually like, give us back the symbols, capitals, and spaces in our user names!

I have to agree with pretty much everyone else on the fact that I don't really like that it's permanent. don't get me wrong I like the domain name idea but I think we should be able to change it when we want and at least for the usernames to be able to have symbolsin them. but at the least be able to change the domain name... please

My biggest concern is that I have control when my name (real or user) is used. Therefore, I assume there will be control features for this?
Most (if not all) social sites have enabled complex control filters for how one's personal (and virtual) information is used. You will notice that people often reveal significant information about our lives when we publish sets.We should be able to control how this is accessed. If you have no plans to ensure security of private information, I want to know.
Thanks.

To Whom it May Concern:

I know you have put a lot of hard work and effort into this change, but I do not think that it may be worth it with all of this negative response. Us "Polyvorians" do not wish for Polyvore to become the next Facebook. We just want Polyvore's uniqueness back; we want the old Polyvore back.

There may be some users that are open to this change, and that is perfectly fine. Nevertheless, that is no reason to dismiss those of us who have different opinions.

It would be better if you could make this change OPTIONAL. That way ALL OF US Polyvorians could be HAPPY. It may be a simple suggestion, but it is one that all of us users against this change want. This is something you should take into consideration.

Sincerely,
▫~Nєяiиiα~▫ (now known as xx-ofcoffeeandyaoibinges-xx)

I'm actually okay with the tagging its cool but I hate the permantent user name because what if my personality changes? what if I want to redo my account and I want to potray something different on my account? I don't want the same user name dragging me down and confusing people. I want to be creative with my name and add symbols and smiley face and fun new changes. I don't want to be held back. So I WANT OLD POLYVORE BACK

Anonymous said...

I really don't see why everybody is so upset about the name thing? So you can't put a freaking star in your name. Get over it, it's just a name, and if you were really "creative" and "expressive" all of that stuff, then you should know that you can't be defined or restricted by your name, and your name doesn't make who you are. I think that you people should just be happy there IS a polyvore, and if you don't like it so much, then delete your account and be gone. But whatever, do what you want.

I think it would've been more fair if you'd given the usernames to active people as priority. I couldn't have my preferred username, the one i /really/ wanted cos' it's my name, because someone who hasn't been active for four straight months got given it automatically. It's a bit unfair, especially to people who've been supportive and active. It's happened to me and atleast two of my friends.

Ahhm.... Personally, I very much enjoy the domain names and tagging. Before, it was impossible to find anyone because the names would keep changing. Thanks for that. :)
I've been reading some of the posts and some people are mad about the whole "What if my mood changes?" thingy. Your username isn't a personal status bar. Its a name where people can look up your artwork and fashion ideas.
Of course, to please both sides (Polyvore and Users) why don't we have a place where we can post our mood next to our username?

eg. --> FinskytheGreat status: Fantastic!

Like that :) Just an idea. Also: Is it true that if you are tagged we aren't notified? If thats true, then I would be happy if you changed it. Whats the point of being "tagged" if you don't know you were? Just sayin'.
Oh! And I LOVE the whole domain names thing! Whenever somebody wanted to see my homepage there is this HUGE sequence of numbers to see it. Now I just give them my username. YAY!
One more subject: I am personally "for" the symbols in the username thing. It quashes creativity. You cant make a penguin <(") Not cool. Penguin is mad.
Just wanted to say that you can't please everybody, but you pleased me overall with the changes. Thanks, Polyvore!

Polyvore is an awesome addition to my life. I love the flexibility I have to create.

Symbols
I personally find names with lots of symbols hard to read and less impressive.

Capital letters
I wonder about the capital letters, though. My name everywhere else is KateOlive. Here now it's kateolive. Fortunately, that's still pretty readable. I can see it might be a problem for others with less readable names.

Permanent names
I do see merit to the argument that it would be depressing for users to be stuck with old names that no longer express who they are. I'm sure this is a problem Polyvore is more than capable of solving.

--EG said...

I like the new Polyvore, actuallu, but I also agree with Posh, she said it far better and more articulately..."I am fan of personal domains and tagging, that was a great idea. Thanks for all of your hard work!"
Also, maybe increasing the item limit to 75 would be nice. Maybe 60? Thank you for your hours of work, Polyvore! :)

I understand how polyvore is trying to update everything by making changes. But the permanent usernames were a stretch & i'd like to see how the tagging works. But the thing is,Polyvore is a website for expressing your style and personality. Each day we have less and less freedom to do that.

THIS IS NOT TWITTER. NOBODY WANTS THIS TO BE ALL NEW AND FLASHY. I WAS SIMPLY HAPPY WITH HAVING PICTURES WE COULD ROTATE AND HAVING NEW COLOUR BLOCKS.

Okay, you guys probably don't read any of this stuff but whatever. I know so many people who quit because of the stupid domain names. Honestly, I wouldn't even care about domain names if we were allowed to have spaces and crazy symbols. I don't care that you can only change your username once. I hate it when people change it over and over. BUT the fact that we can't have symbols and hearts and spaces makes me mad.

For the tagging, i love that. I think it is awesome and a great way for people to see your sets and make friends. And you can actually like specify if you are reserving a roleplay for someone or you are having a chat with friends on a set. Tagging I love.

I think that polyvore should get rid of the 50 item limit and the 2 item minimum. I think it should be an 100 item max and a 1 item minimun but that is just me. I also think we should have a chat box like on facebook and it shows if the person is online or not.

Anonymous said...

We should be able to use symbols. It's what shows our personality. And some of the new Polyvore stuff kinda sucks. So yeah. Can you change some stuff back?

Ok... So I like the fact that we have domain names. That really does rock. And the tagging seems really cool too. Haven't tried it yet, but I like it. However... I was under the impression that we could still personalize our screen name. It is great that I am now kira-marie.polyvore.com, but I would like my personal screen name to be what it was before: {Kira Marie}. Please, let us keep our domain names and the tagging, (for really it is cool) But let people personalize their screen names on their own pages.

I don't mind that the usernames are permanent at all. What I really can't stand is losing the same username I've had since I first joined polyvore. Now it's taken by some newbie, and I'm stuck with a new, unrecognizable one. Couldn't you have done it by whoever had that username the longest? And now that we can't use capitals or /()$$&@ any of that, almost all the usernames are taken. Seriously. This sucks. I feel like I lost my identity on polyvore....my username was what made me original. I wish polyvore would stop trying to be Facebook. We don't need tagging, okay? I'd rather have my username back! I mean really, couldn't Polyvore even ask us what we think about these changes before they go ahead and cause tons of outrage?

I like this new feature. All of it. So what if you can only change your user name once? And so what if you can't have symbols in your username? Why should that matter at all? Polyvore is a place for people to express themselves through fashion and art, as well as to connect with like-minded people. So, why should your user name matter? The only thing that comes from changing your user name every week is that people that like your sets might not be able to find or recognize them. That, to me, would be the bigger issue. So, thanks Polyvore! You've made some good choices. Now all we need is an expanded items limit (50? Really?) and we're good to go! ;)

Hello my username is glitterinmyviens and I realized right after the custom domain change that it was spelled incorrectly. So I went to change it to glitterinmyveins and I did so and for the rest of the day it was spelled right but now it is back to the incorrect version. I am sure I spelled it correctly. I just would like it to be corrected because it said I have already used my one change. Thank you!

Those who remember the early days of the web will recall the virtual land-rush that occurred regarding domain names. Companies with the foresight and budgets snapped up domain names, such as toothpaste.com or justdoit.com, with the hopes of cashing in when other organizations realized the value in the names and were willing to pay for them. The rush was so intense that, today, organizations find it difficult to secure domain names that represent their businesses. At least, they did.
