The New Site Design - We're Listening

Dear Polyvore community,

Thank you to everyone who took the time to write in with feedback on the new design. It means the world to us that you care so deeply about the site. We’re sorry that not everyone likes the new homepage, but we’re working around the clock to try to make it better.

We’re getting so many comments that we can’t respond individually to all of them (we do read all of them though!), so we wanted to take a moment to address the top issues:

I’m confused. Where is everything that used to be on My Home, Explore, and the old Polyvore homepage? Almost everything that used to be on those three pages has been split into two pages: Activity and the new homepage.

What’s on the homepage? The homepage is dedicated to browsing your contacts’ stuff, as well as discovering new people.
  • Contacts' sets
  • Contacts' collections
  • Likes from your contacts
  • If you’re new to the site or not following very many people, we may also mix in some of the Top Sets for that day to help you discover new styles you may love.
What’s on the Activity page? The Activity page is dedicated to your stuff and ideas to inspire your creation.
  • Notifications about new likes, comments, etc. on your sets or collections
  • Contests
  • Groups
Some content from Explore and the old homepage was removed because we found nobody was using it. If you want some of those sections back, let us know by leaving a comment on the blog.

I don’t like seeing big sets on my homepage. I prefer being able to see more sets at once. We’ve added a toggle in the top right that says “Stream | Grid”. Switching to Grid view lets you see a grid of many sets all at once, very similar to the old My Home.

Why did you make this change? I prefer having everything on one page! Through user feedback, we learned that the old My Home was confusing to people who don’t make sets regularly. We wanted to give these users a homepage where they can enjoy Polyvore by browsing the beautiful sets created by those they follow. We also found that active creators care a lot about the views, likes, and comments they receive, so we created a dedicated Activity page where you can easily see all of this. We felt it was a good design philosophy to have separate pages focused on different tasks.

Why didn’t you ask us for feedback first? We know you’ve gotten mad at us before for making drastic changes, so we tried to ask for more feedback upfront via a beta test. We’re sorry that we couldn’t include everyone.

For the beta test, we invited 200+ members to try the site starting five weeks ago. As you might imagine, the initial feedback was very similar to what we’re getting now. “I hate it! Why change a good thing?” was one of the first comments. But after a few days, we started to see a lot of people grow to like the new design.

Here are some of the comments from our beta testers:

“I love it! I'm glad I was part of the testing. For those of you who don't like it now, it takes a bit to get used to but in the end it's so much more streamlined than the old homepage =)”
“So glad the changes are now active throughout the community! As a beta tester, I too wasn't sure of the new changes but they quickly grew on me. I am able to stay so much more connected to the community. It is easier to navigate and find people now. Thank you Polyvore for always trying to make things better for us!”
“I was one of the beta testers and at first, I hated this layout and wanted it gone asap. And after giving feedback about what I didn't like, one of the Polyvore team members got back to me and pointed out a few points, and told me to give it a few more days to adjust to the change. Now, I love this layout. Things will all make sense once you give it some time. Everyone is doing the same thing I did, making too quick of a judgment. Nobody likes changes, but they happen and people just need time to adjust.”

We’re really sorry that the change is so drastic, but we didn’t see any way to roll it out incrementally.
We hope you’ll give the new design a chance, as our beta testers did, because we think you’ll grow to like it as they did.

Why don't you fix the 50 item limit instead or make an iPad/iPhone app or build other things we request? We're working on a mobile version and hope to have an iPad app by the end of the year. Our engineering team is pretty small though, just 10 people. If you know anyone who'd like to join, please point them to polyvore.com/jobs!

As much as we'd like to increase the 50 item limit to 100, the problem is that loading too many items in the editor will slow down your browser. It also puts load on our image stitching servers and would make it significantly slower to publish and load sets. We just want you to know it wasn't an arbitrary decision. Sorry :-(

Images are slow or blank. Items are missing from my sets. We’re really sorry about this. It’s a temporary issue that we’re working hard to fix. The upgrade to larger sets put extra load on our servers, causing images to be served slowly or not at all.

Why are there weird things in my homepage stream? The homepage is supposed to be your contacts’ sets, with a few features (the gray boxes) of Up & Coming sets, Top Sets, and stuff your contacts liked. There was a bug causing way too many gray boxes to show up, which we’ve now fixed.

Thanks for all of your patience as we work out the kinks. If you have specific feedback about the new design you’d like to share, please let us know by leaving a comment.

Love,
The Polyvore Team

Don't change Polyvore!

I have ZERO problems whatsoever with the new design. In fact, I like it. BUT something that you guys changed is messing with my sets. Only parts of them show up, or they turn invisible. These are sets that I've already published, and drafts as well. It's really annoying and frustrating. Please fix it, or tell me what's wrong in the first place. Thanks!

I don't like it. Everyone hates it. Please change it back to the old one! WE MISS IT!

I still hate it Polyvore, I love this website, but I want my old homepage.

thanks for all your hard work! we appreciate it, even if people don't voice it very much :)

I find that a lot of sets, you can't see the items, From the bar or on the actual set. I like the other version better! Please take into consideration.

i still don't like it *pout*

I have no problems with the new site design--in fact, I like it. But something that you guys changed is messing with my sets. They shows up with parts missing, or turn invisible. This is happening to all of my sets: the new and the old. It's really annoying and frustrating to see my sets being ruined. Please fix this issue, or tell me what's wrong. Thanks!

Y U NO MENTION TEXT SETS?!?!?!?!

Anonymous said...

There are some glitches to the new design. A lot of my sets pictures are not showing up. Please fix it.

it's still awful omg

why can't you be like twitter and we can choose which layout we could use... I mean, didn't twitter do that at one point? I remember I got the new version of twitter, but had the option of going back to the older one. I still hate the new layout of polyvore. I do not like going back and forth between two pages. I liked everything on one page, aka my homepage. and my icon is small on my "activity" page and I don't like that lol

Anonymous said...

Thank you so much for explaining everything! I am also just getting used to it-and starting to like it! So thank you for all of your hard work!

I'm not being quick to judge when I say I don't really like it. While change is good, I mean look how far the site has come since it was first around, some changes aren't needed. While they can be for some and annoying to others, that's where my idea comes in. You know how we can choose to have the graph or not to have it (I don't know if that's gone now or not with this change) but I liked that; how I didn't find it necessary so I could opt out of it. If we could have that with the different lay outs you come up with, then everyone could be happy.

Anonymous said...

I like the HOME button more, and how your contacts sets were on the same page as everything else. I think I would enjoy polyvore much more if it was back to normal

sinner-saved-by-grace said...

Can you explain to me why when I report people who use vulgar, sexual words in their sets or as their name. you never delete them? Also the sets which glorify drugs are not deleted either. Is there a reason for this, after all they are all against PV rules?

Anonymous said...

Its just so much more confusing and high matinence. And, about people who DON'T make sets regularly, most people do. I really really miss the old home page, it was much better and gave a sense of a community. That's what polyvore is, a community, but with this layout it seems like a business website. I hope you read this and take it into account.

Nikell (Modesty Fashions on Polyvore) said...

I like the new layout! Especially the bigger sets. The only thing that I miss is the easy access to the top sets for the day. I like to congratulate my contacts as well as check to see if I'm in top sets that day. I also miss easy access to the top products too. I usually visit those collections first. It helps to inspire me. Other than that I'm pleased with the new look. Thanks for working hard to please everyone!! I know its a big job ^_^

Anonymous said...

Please just put it back to the way it was. I'm so confused!

Anonymous said...

I might like these changes once I get used to them. But please work on trying to fix the issue of items on a set not loading!

Anonymous said...

the larger sets make it almost impossible to see the whole set without scrolling. also, please bring back the old scroll view for contact's sets. I know you thought youd slip following in in this update with so much other crap we wouldnt notice. I noticed. I dont follow; I have contacts. Don't be twits atweeting.

Heather said...

Thank you so much guys! We know you are working so hard to please us all! (And we know that there are a lot of us!)
Also, thank you for addressing the missing images in sets. I assumed it was due to the recent changes but wasn't sure. I am glad to know they will return to normal soon. I was a little worried.

Anonymous said...

I'm not minding the change as much as I did before, but the one thing that keeps bothering me is that my contact's sets are all mixed in with their likes and new people. I'd like a section devoted to only there sets, maybe their likes in the sidebar. As far as putting in random people, I don't like it, at all.

Anonymous said...

JUST GODDAMN CHANGE IT BACK

Anonymous said...

Thank you for addressing the issues that many users are having about these new changes. While I am trying to get use to the new changes (I like the notification alert and the large set sizes), they aren't ones I like. I still prefer the old homepage where I was able to see sets from the groups I belong to, this is something I miss seeing since I liked many of those sets. I also miss seeing items that my contacts clipped since it help me add items to my items. I think it would be helpful if you gave users the option of having the old homepage or this new homepage/activity page. This may make users feel more at ease with the choices that you are making for this website and give users the options that they want.

Fuck off said...

I really miss the old "Home" page. It used to be fun, and easy to operate. The new layout is too confusing, and i really do not like this. I miss the old Polyvore, and I am not very happy with the layout. I am more then half-tempted to leave. Infact I feel like that is the only option i still have.

leah said...

It actually doesn't really bother me, not at all.

Anonymous said...

Umm well, I like being able to see how many likes ,contacts and stuff I get on my Home page and I liked the arrangement of it better. Now it takes me way longer to get to a page where what i want is. And the biggest problem of all is that text sets get filtered out. I follow some of the people I'm following BECAUSE of their text sets. They're hilarious and they make me laugh. Now I can't even read them! Sure, Polyvore was originally a fashion site but now text sets are a part of it and have almost always been. I want text sets back. Go ahead and keep this layout but all i want is text sets back. How are we supposed to talk to our followers without them?

Anonymous said...

I still don't like it. I was happy with the old layout, I never thought it was confusing or cramped. I don't get how you can assume this is a great idea based off the opinions of only 200 members when there are so many more members and there are over 1000 plus comments from people saying they hate the changes. I'm wondering who these beta testers were. If they just joined Polyvore not long ago, they're obviously not going to know much different compared to a member like me that's been here for two, almost three years. The majority doesn't like it. You changed the homepage because people who don't make sets regularly thought it was confusing and I didn't think that was reason enough to change the entire thing when the majority of Polyvore makes sets regularly. You'd think you would side with those members more. Were the ones stuck with the features now. I care about likes, comments, and announcements, but I don't need an entire page for it. I was fine with the notifications before. When we complained about the size of sets, were also referring to the sets on our profiles. They're too large and you can't see the entire set without having to scroll down a bit. Bigger isn't always better, it's kind of a headache to see them so close up. You should make a section dedicated to the sets our contacts liked and top sets because I'm confused for as to where those where because it's hard to tell the difference. I don't want to be complaining about everything, but I don't like the changes you've made. I know you're trying to make us happy, but why keep these changes when you know that most of us hate it? I'm beginning to think you only care about the opinions of people that like the changes, rather then the ones that don't.

Anonymous said...

It would be a lot better if when we're editing our about me and stuff, if we were able to choose which homepage we would like to use. that way, people get what they want and stop complaining. also, please take into consideration the fact that people are still having problems with the permanent usernames, and would like to change them more than once. thanks polyvore.

Wizards WB said...

It doesn't make it easier, just harder. There's an old saying that says "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Well, it wasn't broke. It was working just fine.

Anonymous said...

I only have a few problems with this new layout, and it's been weighing heavy on me for the last two days.
One, I'm missing A LOT of my contacts' sets. I know for a fact my contacts make more sets than are showing up on my homepage.
Two, my art sets have not been showing up like fashion sets have. Also, my art sets have been showing up blank, unlike fashion sets.
Three, text sets. I know people make text sets to express themselves also, and blocking them is blocking self expression.
I know Polyvore was made for fashion sets, but people DO make other types of sets, and you should support that as we are users of your site.

Anonymous said...

Thank you polyvore, for actually caring about what we think :)
thank you for trying to make an effort to make all of us happy :))

Anonymous said...

I'm sort've on the fence about the new layout.
I love the notifications, I no longer have to keep refreshing my homepage to check for new comments, which is awesome.

But I miss seeing sets from my groups. On the old page I just scrolled down to see if there were any sets, now I have to physically go to the group itself to see sets.
Also the mixing of my contacts sets and 'popular' sets and likes confuses me.
Often I'll click a set I think my contact made but it turns out it was some random from the front page. Hardly any of my contacts sets are shown, instead the space is filled by their likes and popular polyvorians. All I want to see is my contacts sets, clearly defined. Also seeing their likes defined would be nice. The gray boxes are not dark enough for me to notice and often I get confused.
It would be really great if we could choose which layout to use, or even just what we would like displayed on our homepage.

Polyvore, it's great you change things to help out the community, but sometimes you get a little too out of the box.

Anonymous said...

I really don't like it I want the old one back. please change it. :)

Anonymous said...

****First off, thanks for listening and trying to make it better.... I'm still not totally on board with the new design. But, I do love polyvore, it's great fun! Thanks. But, some things I don't like are: 1. don't want to see the top sets on my opening page. Not even sure how they got to be in the top sets or why.
2. i did use the explore page a lot before and i miss it now. i understand that you can still get to it with a little extra work.
3. i liked having all 3 genres in one spot (art, interior design and fashion. i am interested in all three.
4. it is hard to know which sets are done by my contacts as i didn't memorize them all.

So, that said, i feel like one of the main reasons for the change was to put the top sets under our noses--instead of us going to look for them----i guess adverstising/designers wanting more exsposure of their items comes into play? the bottom line...$$$--
thanks, kerpatch

Anonymous said...

I dont mind the new layout.
BUT I CANT SEE HALF MY CONTACTS SETS!!!
Fix that and everything would be fine.

Anonymous said...

Okay, you're STILL. NOT. LISTENING.

I want to be able to see my contact's sets AND my activity on one page. I could care less about the whole 'explore' page. I don't want contests next to my messages, I want my contact's sets. I don't even USE the contacts page now, or whatever the heck you're calling it. We appreciate all of the effort, but put the effort into something we WANT, please :(

Polyvore, why don’t I get a red number for PMs? Its really annoying to miss someone’s PM by hours because you didn’t notice you had a new message. I wish we could have the red number for PMs, too.

Anonymous said...

I liked it the old way much better, even after using this for a while... It was easier and everything I needed was easily on ONE page. This layout is whatever, its not like I hate hate hate it, but I prefer the old one, I extremely prefer the old one. I wish it would change back, its causing so many glitches, and now that the sets are bigger my screen has a bar at the bottom and I have to scroll t see all of it. I also find myself not even checking other peoples sets because its just not in a good place, its not where my messages are, and I feel weird about going back and forth so much. Thanks for trying to make things better but some things are good and other things are really not. Not every idea is golden, so it wouldnt be bad if you changed it back. Im sure 90% of polyvore would be very happy.

Where can I find the top sets? That was my favorite thing about the old page..

PLLLLLLLLEASEEEEE CHANGE IS BACK...don't be like facebook and changing it all the time, if IT WASN'T BROKEN DON'T FIX IT! and POLYVORE was GREAT Just the way it was, so i'm asking you soo nicely to EVERYONE a favor and listen. CHANGE IT BACK!! and don't upgrade but it sucks. the way it was, so much better i LIKED MY ACTIVITY WHERE I COULD SEE THEM!!!

Anonymous said...

I've been on polyvore, for over three years. We have been asking for things like an increase in the item limit, and the app, and stuff like that. I understand the reasons why we can't get those things. But another thing we've been asking for is for something on everyones page showing whether they are online or offline? Why can't we get something like that? I liked being able to see my contacts sets. Now I really don't even look at my contacts sets because they are in a different location. Sorry to say but the new homepage sucks, it needs to be turned back to the old one, or at least one where we can see our contacts sets and our stuff on the same page. Or we should have the option to pick which one we want. You guys are trying to make yourself like facebook and tumbler, STOP. You were fine the way you were.

Nikki said...

I like the option to scroll up, and I like the bigger sets. But, that's about it. I can no longer view sets, I have to look at the items inside the set in the side bar. Only half my items load. Meaning, just half of the actual picture. I'm sure these are just kinks that need to be worked out, but so far...I'm not overly impressed. Sorry guys. The old polyvore was awesome.

Molly said...

please please please change it back to the old layout!

Anonymous said...

I like it, honestly I did not before, but i really like how it shows if you have new messages or mail. But please do not make this like facebook or twitter, this site is some much better and is not like email on crack

Anonymous said...

I know you are trying to make it good for everyone, but stop trying. Give us back the old homepage. If you don't want to upset everyone then give us the option to have the old one back or not. I been using the new one and I still hate it and can't navigate it. The fact that I can't see my contact's set is a major problem. Please change it back. You are focusing on the very few positive comments you got to make it seem like this change is a wonderful. Do you realize the negative comments are the majority here? Listen to your users, you had no reason to change. And now you will lose half of your users, who fault is that. Listen to your users and not BETA testers. They only adapted because you pressured them into it. Change back please.

Anonymous said...

I really enjoy the new changes! :) Thanks Polyvore for making the site better!! I've always appreciated the hard work you've put in for us members. I think a lot of members need to put themselves in your guys shoes because it's not easy trying to please everyone. So, all-in-all I LOVE the site! It makes me feel more professional for some reason haha :)

Anonymous said...

Honestly every time I go on polyvore to make a set now I get irritated when I see the page and rush along to make my set while hoping that all of it will be visible. Please just change it back. I'm guessing that the majority of the people unhappy with the change are the loyal long time polyvorians; and I've already read comments about people thinking of taking breaks or leaving just because of this change. At the very least give us the option on which layout we like more like someone else already mentioned. We do appreciate all of your hard work, just please change it back because the only visible parts of polyvore now are the parts most of us are hating.

Anonymous said...

I honestly, really dont care. This homepage is interesting, and I'll get used to it. But the thing that caught my eye is the app for Polyvore? if that actually happened, my life would be made.

Gothic_Pheonix said...

We have given it several days. But again, we already gave something like this a chance; it was called Dashboard and you accidentally had published it. It was on for two days and no one liked it. This Activity and new layout has been up for four days and we still don't like it. After seven days, will you actually listen to us and give us back the old layout? Also, instead of just having an iPad one, you should have one for the iPhone too, because many only have iPhones.

Polyvore, this is my review for the new layout
Dislikes:
-Don't like the new design. Prefers the old layout. There was NOTHING confusing about it. It was simple. Most people just don't know about the rules about polyvore and how to use it because they don't go to the help page. Maybe you should make a tab just for FAQ's; like how to contact you and about polyvore and have that tab next to create.
-The layout is NOT user-friendly. it's been several days and we don't like it at all. So, the layout should NOT have been changed because there WERE no problems to it.
-I don't like the bigger sets because I have to scroll down to see the notes and comments completely, and now you can see every little detail and flaws in the sets. We should have a choice about whether we want the set bigger or not; same with the new Activity page. Let the one's who want the Old Homepage have it.
Likes:
- I like the recent contests you entered, but think it should include all open contests you entered

I still wish I didn't have to look at people's sets on my homepage who are NOT my contacts. (And I'm not talking about the section where it shows what my contacts liked.) I understand that they're "up and coming" or the "top sets of the day", but I'd like my home page to be dedicated to the people I choose to follow, and not random sets.

Anonymous said...

I REALLY DO LIKE THAT YOU HAVE INCREASED THE VIEWING SIZE OF THE SETS..REALLY NICE! I JUST MISS THE OLD HOME PAGE, IT WAS MUCH SIMPLER TO NAVIGATE AND SEE EVERYTHING...I DON'T LIKE THE "ACTIVITY" THING.

Anonymous said...

I think the sets on the homepage (grid) is still too large, you should make a setting so we can change the size :]
Also I think you should give people two options for both homepages
that would be awesome

I'm not understanding the complaints. IMO the update is great. Things are SO much more orderly than before. The larger set is a real plus too. I think it makes sense. :)

I like the changes but I am getting very angry. My computer will not load any sets at all. Even a smiple text set will not load. this is very upsetting because I like to look at others sets for inspiration!!! Also when I create a set I like to use the wonderful color tool to fade my sets and I will make the color see through on the set but when io publish it it goes back to the normal color and when I crop items they will "uncrop" themselves when I publish a set. I an sure as set makers yourselves you can see how frustrating this is!!! Other than that the changes are wonderful! Thank you polyvore team for making such a wonderful site and escape for me and so many people!

I still don't like the new homepage. I know it's hard to please everyone one. But think about, you've got the majority saying that they still don't like it. i don't see the reason for the new changes.

Anonymous said...

I HATE IT!!!!! CHANGE IT BACK!!!

Anonymous said...

Oh Polyvore, you're given so much grief :D
I agree that we should be given the option of switching out the layout of the home page. Er activity page. You know give us three or four different layout options to pick and use for ourselves?

But for the most part, I think a few polyvorians are being too harsh. To all the abrasively negative people leaving abrasive negative comments: they are trying. Without people using their site, their site would be nothing. So of course they want to please each and every one of you. It's pretty damn difficult to cater to each and every person out of THOUSANDS.

So just chill, continue to give feedback, and hope others feel the same. After all, it would be most beneficial to make the MAJORITY of Polyvore users happy.

i'm not a huge fan of the new homepage! the old one was so easy to work. please change it back to the old homepage!

HighFashionista said...

I must say at first I was apprehensive about the change but I have grown used to it and I don't see a problem with it! It is much more concise and streamlined...although I must say it would be helpful to have contacts sets/profile/activity on one page instead of two.

Anonymous said...

Again, I am not happy with these changes. After a few days of working with the new PV, I still HATE IT! And even more so than my initial reaction to it! It used to be that you could see your contacts sets on the My Home page along with sets that your contacts liked. I used to meet all kinds of new people with that section. Now, I don't even see that section anywhere on the homepage or activity page.

Please put it back or at the very least give us the option to accept or reject these changes in our options. At least twitter gave people time to go back and forth between the old and new versions and choose from there. This whole make extreme changes at the drop of a hat are driving your users away. It sounds like you've been taking advice from the Netflix CEO. PLEASE LISTEN to your members and change it back!!

i dont like it! i just got used to the old version. is there anyway i can change it back. i cant really pay attention or do anything with this version. sorry just not made for me :(

Thanks for all your hard work, it's greatly appreciated!!(:

i was astounded by all the negative comments after the change. i was never a regular polyvore user until a few weeks go (though i've had an account for a long time), so i never 'got used' to the old layout anyway. the new layout makes so much more sense and it so much easier to use. i found the old layout much more confusing in my opinion! the new activity function is my favourite thing. notifications with the old layout used to get bunched up and wouldn't disappear and it always frustrated me. everything is just so much easier.
there's always an outcry when sites change layouts (take facebook & tumblr for example. there have been petitions for changing back after the initial change!) but after even just a week or two everyone is used to the new layout and can barely remember how it was before. just give it time!

Lavenderblush said...

Sorry polyvore but I still hate it. It's missing all the features that I liked on the old one, like being able to see items your contacts added and all their recent collections all in one place. Not only that but I find it ugly. PLEASE change it back. There is /no reason/ to keep changing the site like that.
Thanks for listening to us though.

druesaysrelax said...

Polyvore, as much as we appreciate your dedication and hard work that you all put into this website...Why change it? I don't like having to go to two separate places to see my "activity" and contacts' sets. It was so much easier before when all of that was on one page. I feel like this is going to lead to a decrease in faves, comments and views all together because most people are going to get too caught up in their own activity and set making to look at the new "my home" - I've seen that in myself already. Please, put those two things back on the same page!!! Also, where did the "my contact's style advice" section at the bottom of the old My Home go? I really liked that feature!

Thanks for all your hard work, but please, can't you channel that energy into something else? Adding to the website instead of taking away from it?

Hey PolyTeam
I am working really hard at getting used to the new layout. I find it much more time consuming but I am sure I will get used to it. I cannot live without Poly so I have no choice.
I have 2 suggestions/comments though.
1. Is it possible to get Top Sets and Top Products somewhere more prominent and with easier access?
2. When the layout on our 'Home' page is set to grid is there any way to add the like button to those sets? The way it is in Top Sets. This way you can like contacts sets more quickly.
I have set mine to stream just so I can do those likes but I do find stream to be a bit big and bulky and I prefer the streamlined nature of grid.
Anyway thanks for all the hard work!

I really don't like it. It's very confusing. I used to spend a lot of time on polyvore but the new changes have just discouraged me to come on and I have been spending more time on twitter and facebook. No matter what I will still get on but I really think you should seriously consider changing it back, or at least taking a survey or something to see what people miss about the old homepage.

Anonymous said...

I don't like the new one because I only want to see what sets the people I follow make, not random people I don't care about. CHANGE IT!

tripmywire said...

I don't really understand how "it grows on you" and "you get used it" are good feedback. When you're trying to make an improvement, if you don't hear "oh wow it's great" and instead get iffy responses...Not good feedback. And you probably should not go through with the change. That would be the logical choice anyway. I really dislike this, but I too will get used to it. But it was still better before and this is still utterly confusing and unnecessary.

I honestly can't stand it. It's more confusing and a lot harder to use. Sorry, but I really wish you would change it back

I can't imagine that I will ever "grow" to like this new version as much as your 200 "beta testers". I've been here so long that I can't even remember most of the changes, but THIS is the first time I've felt the need to comment on them. I don't feel that you've made anything easier ~ infact I still find it confusing & unorganized. My homepage now looks very messy. I really wish you would just STOP trying to make things "better"...

I'm not so sure how I feel about the new site design, but if you do decide to keep it, could you at least designate a section on the homepage for Top Sets because I liked it when they were clearly featured on the homepage.

I'm trying to get used to the new layout but its really hard and its just making it more confusing to use. it isn't making me want to follow new people, like more sets, get on more or even make a set its making me want to turn to other websites. I've been on polyvore for a very long time and I'm a dedicated user but i don't like it. "you get used to it" isn't the same as "i love it!". i really think you should listen to your users opinions more. you don't really take us into too much consideration. and in the long run i think this will affect you and make people stop using your website.

Erin (: said...

No matter how you change the website, all these people are going to, once again, be close minded and "hate it", like all the previous changes. I LOVE this new homepage. the sets are bigger, it's much more organized and efficient, and I have zero complaints. Honestly, I much prefer this homepage to the previous ones. I hope this one is here to stay, and that people just give this one a chance.

Honestly, please just stop trying to change Polyvore. It's a perfect site just the way it is and the majority of us Poly-people like the original Polyvore. Every time something is changed, most of us don't like it. So I recommend and strongly advise that you just stop with the sudden changes. They're unnecessary and annoying.

I'm loving the new layout but will be oh-so-very-happy when you get the bugs worked out and my sets stop disappearing. I've decided I'm going to take a couple of days break and then come back. I'm just getting so cranky about everything running so slowly, but I trust you will figure it out. Don't let the uproar get you guys down...you have likely noticed this happens every time you make changes.

I like the new features, I loved the bigger sets and the activities feed, you're constantly working on giving us the best, change is good but it takes time to adapt, I can get used to it.

Anonymous said...

You may tell us your listening but your only listening to simply things your not hearing the big picture that we DON'T like it. I hate the new layout. I've been on here for a year now and I picture myself staying on longer but I can also see myself coming online less and less because I'm avoiding having to stare at a layout I just don't like... I know the Polyvore team is trying their best but sometimes its just better to "stick with what you know" and "if it ain't broke don't fix it" change isn't always good and maybe we can make a solution like have have an option on their profile so then they can choose whether they want to keep the old layout or not. To be honest I won't be one of the people who would keep the new layout.

Danielle said...

There are things that I do like about this new layout. I like the fact that the activity is seperate and that new activity is in grey. I also like the larger sets and the new 'follow button'. However, I miss being able to see other sets outside of my contacts. I love my polyvore contacts and their wonderful sets, but I REALLY enjoyed meeting new people, liking new sets, and joining new groups. If you keep the layout, but let us see sets from people who are not our contacts (and I cannot seem to see collections either...) then I will be fine with the change. I will say that I applaud you for trying new things and doing your best to make everyone happy. That is a very difficult task and I look forward to Polyvore's future.

Anonymous said...

I don't like the new design at all. it's confusing and I'm constantly getting lost and irritated, because I can't find where I want to go. please put it back to the old polyvore.

Anonymous said...

There is no reason to divide things into 3 different pages. I want my contacts sets on the homepage where I can see them without effort/having to go to another page. Why mess with something that isn't broken??? I'm hating it more everyday!! Not getting used to it! You take something that's user friendly and make it completely user UNFRIENDLY and expect people to "GET USED TO IT"????? Huh?? Where's the logic in that? Listen the the members Polyvore!! The majority still hates it. Please do the right thing and either change it back or gives us the option to use which ever layout we prefer.

Sierra Chenee said...

Dear Polyvore,

I don't mind the red notifications, and the enhanced sets. I would actually like the layout if it wasn't so inconvenient to go back and forth between the two pages. I don't like faving peoples sets anymore and I am always missing a bunch because I don't want to go back and forth. I understand that you changed it because it was confusing for members that don't use Polyvore very often but that may also be due to the fact that you guys change the homepage every couple of months. If you look at other successful sites they very rarely change their homepage and I think Polyvore would be smart to take note of that. It just doesn't work well for active members. We like to keep in contact and see their beautiful creations but it feel so disconnected. I waited quite a few days to comment hoping that it would grow on me but I just don't see that happening anymore. You say you wanted to help those that love faves and comments but I've noticed a lot of sets getting less comments and faves and that is because you can't see sets instantly without having to stay on the polyvore page. I really do hope you will consider thinking of a new one. It seems like so much focus is put on the homepage when there are other features that need enhanced. I don't understand why the item limit has to be 50 or 100. Why not 60 since most people only ever want a few more items? Plus the homepage changes make everything slow so the site is going to be slow no matter what. Thank you for addressing the other requests though. It is good to have a reason for things.

Thank you.
Sierra

Anonymous said...

Please change it back. The old design was more user friendly!

yabamena said...

Nope, sorry your explanations don't make me like your changes. In fact, I hate the reason given for these changes. If you're going to implement changes like this, there should be the option to either opt-in or opt-out. There's a reason why I don't follow more than 19 people: because I don't want to. I don't want to be forced to see sets I have no interest in and have to root out the ones I do. And your gray boxes have NOT been fixed. I still have them showing up in my own sets. Stop pandering to the few and listen to the many.

Anonymous said...

Polyvore. The change is growing on me. It's a fact. But I wish that questions could be about anything art related, like music, movie, art. Please bring back text sets and art sets. I only do fashion set occasionally, expression sets are what I do, it's what makes me unique. I hate top sets! I don't know how or why they are top. They all look the same to me. I just want to see my contact's sets and have the option to add more 3 at a time. I sort of like the new format, it's exciting, but I don't really care about all the unkown top sets getting in the flipping way!!!
Most of my sets are missing tons of items too.

As for an app, I would just like one to do updates and check stuff, nothing too huge.

Please make it a more free for all place for artsy people. I love music and pretty are collages, and you made it all possible, but now if it's all about Fashion, what makes one set different from another? Why???

I like the format, but I want a lot of the " top sets" to get lost. I want freedom back.

If you want to censor stuff, why not cursing?

Anonymous said...

I'm adapting, but I still don't agree with such large sets. It's really...I supposed you can say cluttered. I just feel very confused right now, much like Alice in Wonderland.

Anonymous said...

I don't like how I have to see sets of people that I'm not following, can you fix that?

Anonymous said...

Hi, I think the changes are great!I think the changes make it better!, I think your website is amazing but I have always thought that! :)

Dana said...

It nice to have changes for a better version.... It might take some time for me to get use to it but the Activity page is more efficient. I like the sets new bigger size (but I assume that the size adjustment makes the sets uploading extremely slower in my computer...). I'm not sure about the Polyvore Homepage layout - nor the grid or the stream are my cups of tea. I would prefer to see only the "Top Sets" on that page (maybe all the other (new/my friends) sets should be below them).

Finna said...

One thing I've noticed since we got the new change: My views, comments, and likes are way down and think that's probably due to the fact it's now harder to view sets for my contacts. Yes, I value them and having an activity page dedicated to them but with the new set up I'm getting only about a fourth of the likes I was getting before the change

Minnie Romanovich said...

I hope you take this one complaint I have into consideration:

It is not easy to find the various collections made by my contacts on the new homepage anymore. I do see a collection here and there, but it's lumped together with the streaming sets and thus, not always easy to spot. I have also been failing to see the daily "Top Products" collection made by none other than you, dear Polyvore.

It'd be lovely to have a section devoted to collections made my one's contacts. Also, would it possible to expand the limit of submitting to groups from 5 to maybe 10?

I'm happy with the larger size of the sets, but the inability to access collections with ease has been frustrating.

Thank you!

I am a new member of polyvore and i like the new design, especially the activity-site. It´s well-arranged. Good work, guys.

I was a beta tester and I personally loved the new changes right away, especially the new activity page. It's so great to have everything all in one place. I also like the way that the format of the way I can view all of my contact's sets are more streamlined and simpler.

I think people will get over the change in a week or two. Seriously Polyvorians, you would complain about anything. It's just a layout change. CALM DOWN EVERYONE.

KateOlive said...

I love the changes. The larger sets have greater impact, and it is much easier to see details.

I also find it much faster viewing others' sets using the grid feature on the home page. It saves me a lot of time.

I had no trouble at all adapting to the changes--not counting a few seconds of panic at having to deal with something new. I do not understand the anger and confusion with which these changes have been greeted. I guess you're used to it.

For my part, I am so glad to have discovered this fantastic creative resource for us arty/fashiony types. I appreciate your dedication to making this site better and better.

I think the main issue is that people are still not giving it a chance. I have had no problems with the new site and I LOVE it! The bigger sets are amazing and the new homepage makes it easier to view other sets.

Kate said...

I like how I can see if my sets have been active, if a friend has commented on them, etc. But I don't like that I can't see the new sets my friends have designed without clicking on their username. So if you could just bring that back, I would be totally content with the new look :)

victoria1961notags said...

Polyvore. Seriously. There's waaaayyy to many complaints here. A lot of people make sense with their complaints. You have to see that if you are truly listening like you claim. The overwhelming majority doesn't like the new changes. "Getting used to it" shouldn't be the focus. Enjoying the site should be the focus. It was perfect the way it was. If it was sooo confusing for new users, the simpler thing to do would have been put up a Help section clearly visible and easy to access for new users. Easy, plain and simple. No missing sets or items. No slow loading ect. You keep changing things to often. A small change here and there is fine. But a complete makeover that clearly is upsetting to the majority is overkill. I realize you want this site to be the best but it already was the best. Remember how the dog walked up to the water with a bone in it's mouth and saw his own reflection in the water thinking it was another dog with a bone and tried to grab the other dogs bone and in the process lost it's own bone in the water? I'll leave it at that. Please. Change it back.

Miranda said...

I feel the new layout is more disorganized. :( On the new homepage instead of having the boxes inside with the sets could you put them as tabs. So if I wanted to see other sets people are liking I could switch to that tab. And can someone tell me where my group sets are? I can't seem to find them.

Erica said...

The new site design is much cleaner. Change always takes a bit of getting used to. Everyone will like it eventually. Please leave it as is. Thanks.

Hey, Polyvore team,
I didn't like the new layout that much at the start, but now I got used to it and really like it.
Keep doing your great work

Anonymous said...

The worst thing about all of this is is now this ridiculous statement: "the old My Home was confusing to people who don’t make sets regularly."

You've now designed the site to be for people who don't visit your site. Your entire new layout is targeting those users who don't make sets regularly, the users not providing you content. You've chosen to alienate everyone who consistently uses the site -- the people that actually provide you content.

You clearly have no intention of changing it back. I'm disappointed to even be dealing with this. I come to this site to have fun. This is not fun. This is insulting. Change. It. Back.

Anonymous said...

why dont you just make it an option in our settings box? That way, people who like the new design can have it, and people that prefer the old homepage can have that one. That way, everyones happy.

Anonymous said...

Actually I think the new layout is good idea, especially with the activity notes: you can see what's new very quickly.
But one thing bothers me. And that has to do with the contacts sets. I'd prefer to see them all at once.

Thanks! (;

Thanks for all the info Polyvore! Makes it a little easier to know where things went! I like the new layout, however, I do miss the Explore function! I liked being able to search for specific items in different sets, like 'Alexa Chung' sets as it was a way that I promoted my contests and helped to see how many sets used a particular item. Oh, and I also miss the Top Sets on the old homepage!

Anonymous said...

overall i like it but what i don't like is yo can't see the description of someone's set unless you click on it which is pretty annoying

Anonymous said...

I think it would be helpful and neat to have an option for users to use the new or the old version, so then those who don't like the changes that come with the new version can revert back to the old version.

Anonymous said...

There's one thing I would suggest. Keep people's sets and what people like seperated. It's very unclear now because a 'people liked these sets' pops up randomly between the sets my contacts made.

dee. said...

As much as I appreciate you working on the site to try an improve it, I find it odd that you would change the homepage, so that it's not confusing for the people who are rarely active on the site. The old homepage was really great, because everything was well-structured, I knew where everything was, I could see my latest activity, I could see new sets created by my contacts, sets that my contacts liked, new people to follow and so on. now, it's just so confusing and...wrong.
What I am asking you is to please please please listen to the majority of the people who go on here regularly, daily actually and constantly make sets and go back to the old homepage. The larger sets are great, the activity notification doesn't bug me, but that whole stream/grind thing does, and the fact that it's a great big mess. I'm sad that the 50 item limit issue cannot be resolved, for I am one of the persons who are constantly pushing for it, since most of my sets tend to reach that limit, but if this is not possible, at least bring us back the homepage the way it was. PLEASE. it was wonderful, perfect. please don't change it again, don't just make minor changes to the layout you have know (separate activity and home page), we, as a community, would REALLY love to get our home page back.

So if you indeed listen and indeed care, please take in account the majority of the active members of this community and BRING OUR OLD HOMEPAGE BACK, PRETTY PLEASE.

Thank you.

I really don't like this new homepage thing! it doesn't view all the recent sets only a few of them, it's really annoying, please changed it back!!!!!!

Lisa R said...

Well thanks for letting us know that you are listening but you haven't really told us anything new from what you told us a couple of days ago. It seems like we are just going to have to get used to it although swapping backwards and forwards between the homepage and activity means that we will miss most of our contacts new stuff. If you really insist on keeping it like this can you at least put them into clearer catagories, ie: Contacts sets
Contacts collections
Sets we might like etc..
It was also quite interesting seeing items our contacts had clipped.

I did use the explore tab and it seems quite a few others did as well so it would be good to have that back. I know you can get to it through the search option on the right hand side but it's like everything we want to do now takes 2 or 3 more extra clicks of the mouse, a real pain if you have a slow connection!

When checking sets on someones profile it seems to either be one extreme or another, slow to load or scrolls down too quickly so we have to keep going back so we don't miss sets.

Lastly (for now!), has the problem with some of the items with transparent backgrounds been fixed? Quite a few I tried using since this change were coming up with a block of colour behind them.

Jinxedcharm said...

I would like to say thank you for listening to us, because most sites just say the members are shit out of luck with changes they don't like.

Also, I'll learn how to adapt to the new home/activity pages, but I have one request. Please let me disable the "most popular" sets on my home page, I really don't care for them and I'd rather see my contacts' sets.

Dear Polyvore,

The problem I DO have, is with viewing my contact's sets in the stream:

Hope you can fix it!!!

1.
"If you’re new to the site or not following very many people, we may also mix in some of the Top Sets for that day to help you discover new styles you may love."

I can see the top sets and I'm here for more than 2 years and have more than 1700 contacts. Not what I would call new and no I don't wanna see those topsets mixed with my contacts sets.

2."I don’t like seeing big sets on my homepage. I prefer being able to see more sets at once. We’ve added a toggle in the top right that says “Stream | Grid”. Switching to Grid view lets you see a grid of many sets all at once, very similar to the old My Home."

Even using the raster, won't show me more than six sets at once. In the old "my home" it was a lot more!!

3.
"Through user feedback, we learned that the old My Home was confusing to people who don’t make sets regularly."

And now it's confusing for people who make sets regularly. How great.
I get that from a marketing point of view it is more important that new people like it because the old ones won't leave easily, but I think a lot of them ARE actually considering leaving.

4.
"We also found that active creators care a lot about the views, likes, and comments they receive, so we created a dedicated Activity page where you can easily see all of this. We felt it was a good design philosophy to have separate pages focused on different tasks."

And because of the two different pages most people get far less faves/comments than before because people aren't looking at the "Polyvore"Page.
I don't think the people care about views/comments/likes appreciate the changes

5.
"“I was one of the beta testers and at first, I hated this layout and wanted it gone asap. Nobody likes changes, but they happen and people just need time to adjust.”"

Ok so you were just not listening to criticism and tell people to adjust to it. Why did you even ask for Feedback when you only react on positive feedback.
Were you even willing to change things or was it only for hearing how great you are?

After three days the only thing I can say is: I hate the changes even more everyday instead of getting used to it.
I really like Polyvore. I would not write a comment that long if I wouldn't.

I could just say I hate in and leave, but I didn't.

Please make at least everything on one page.
Maybe I can accept the other changes but this is horrible and makes everything far more complicated!

Anonymous said...

i prefer to the old homepage,it was nice, easy, not so complicated like the new one...where are the top sets???the central page of polyvore???much better than new Polyvore...please change it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still stick by my decision that people are not used to change and that I absolutely love the new layout. I think it is more visually appealing as well as navigatable. I do have some problems with some missing set thumbnails and the Activity notifications aren't always updated, but other than that I am absolutely fine. Mostly I am most happy that you explained the 50 item limit, because I understood it straight away when I first noticed it and so it bugged me for people to complain about it.
I would like to make a suggestion however: many people clip their sets if they want to include more than 50 items. This hasn't been a problem for me, but I think it may be a good idea to introduce private items i.e. a user can choose to make their clipped items exclusive to themselves or a selected group of users. Right now clipped items can be used by anybody even though they were created for only one person. I think it would put some users at ease if they could prevent this from happening.

Thanks, I´ve started to see my old sets (and drafts) again and this is helping me to be reconciled with the changes, but Polyvore still runs too slowly, and this is ruining all the fun... please, try to fix that.

I don´t like very much my new home page and I´m thinking that maybe is not only because I find it less "user friendly" than the old one, it´s also due to something about its design, I find it a bit flat, but I don´t know exactly why.

Hope you´ll keep listening.

Every new situation requires a certain period of getting used to it...changing things and improve them is good but also respect the requirements of users because for us this site exist. For me new Poly is very interesting and modern but my main objection is that the top sets and items were not singled out as they were before. It's so hard to find them now among all these new sets of users. I want to congratulate you on all the effort taken to make our beloved Poly more beautiful place for friends, dreams and ideas :) xoxo

For me the new design just makes it harder for me to communicate with each other. I don't look at other's sets much anymore, just because I have to load up a separate page just to do so. :/

I have a question. In the article, it says that "the homepage was confusing to those who didn't make sets often." No offense to you guys, but wouldn't you want to make the changes for members who DO make sets often and DO make contributions and voice opinions for the site? Sure, it's confusing at first, but it's actually a very easy site to understand once you've explored a bit.

I also wanted to say that I've had these changes for at least a month now on one of my roleplay accounts, and I was wondering what all of these changes were...I never really liked the design, and I don't think I will...sorry. :/ I still Love you Polyvore!

I liked seeing Up and Coming Sets in their own space as opposed to them just being randomly mixed in with my contacts' sets. I also found it was a lot easier to browse for new groups there.

I would keep the bigger sets, notifications and activity page though. I can go either way about having contacts' sets on their own page.

I really don't like this new layout. I've posted before, writing my thoughts... and I'm not the only one. For all those people who are NOT very active, which you want to upgrade and 'facilitate' Polyvore for... what about those of us who are ACTIVE? We are (mostly) all here, saying that we don't like it! I think it's wonderful you are always trying to improve, but when there is an ENTIRE makeover, it just complicates this too much.

Where can i see the top sets????

Thanks for all your hard work polyvore! In fact, I really like the new site design and I don't want to go back to the old layout. I love that you can see the sets in larger size now and I think the site looks more modern now!

dear polyvore team, please at least consider changing the homepage back...

Anonymous said...

Who exactly thinks this is easier and less confusing?????? I think it looks like an unorganized MESS. I'm pretty sure MOST of us want it BACK THE WAY IT WAS!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

The old version was much more better than this one,it's really confusing and as for me this design isn't the best one!Sorry.

How do we see the top products/top sets page now?

Anonymous said...

I happy you have addressed the issue but I still don't like it. I was happy with the old layout, I never thought it was confusing or cramped. I don't get how you can assume this is a great idea based off the opinions of only 200 members when there are so many more members and there are over 1000 plus comments from people saying they hate the changes. I'm wondering who these beta testers were. If they just joined Polyvore not long ago, they're obviously not going to know much different compared to a member like me that's been here for 3 years The majority doesn't like it. You changed the homepage because people who don't make sets regularly thought it was confusing and I didn't think that was reason enough to change the entire thing when the majority of Polyvore makes sets regularly. You'd think you would side with those members more. Were the ones stuck with the features now. I care about likes, comments (that have gone way down since the change ) and announcements, but I don't need an entire page for it. I was fine with the notifications before. I don't want to be complaining about everything, but I don't like the changes you've made. I know you're trying to make us happy, but why keep these changes when you know that most of us hate it I really hope that it gets changed back to what it was it's not working this way .

hate it so much.....its really horrible!

Please change it back! at the moment the site itself isn't even loading!

I generally scroll through my friends sets and leave them likes/comments as the first thing I do when I log into Polyvore. I find the new layout makes that really hard to do without a lot of clicking back and forth. Can you add some kind of scrolling feature?
The bigger sets look really good and I thank you for doing all the wonderful hings you do for the Poly community.

I mean I've almost gotten used to it, but its so stressful having to go back and forth to Activity and everything. I guess I just liked it when it was all in one place. I honestly never cared about sets being bigger. Nice to know our comments don't go unheard though.

the ONLY thing that sets Polyvore apart is that fabulous "create" code which no one else has at the moment. I'm hoping that that will change quickly and healthy competition will appear.

I like this new homepage and all, but i don't like the fact that the sets are so much larger- it makes it look unappealing!

i like the new look and layout

I actually like the new layout I just miss the Explore page because I found new members and tons of collections I would have never found with out using explore. I also miss changing our username.......We should be able to change it up to 2 more times!!!!!!!! Please!!! I need to change my name again!

i prefer the old one, it was much easier to understand, especially as i was trying to explain to two of my friends who joined yesterday.
sorry but im not a fan of the change. x

I really appreciate what you do and that you try to make polyvore a better place, but..I believe the previous My Home was better..cause you could get it all in one place, now where usually people care a lot about the views, likes, and comments they receive(to use your words) it means they will spend time in the activity page...they will rarely visit the new home page..which means they won't see their contact sets..or whatever happens there...in other words..I think the new design make the interaction much less between members...the old My Home had it all..and if anyone wanted to see the contact sets all in one page..they could do that easily...without all of this!!!..can't u at least give us the choice of how we want the design to be..like everyone chooses how he/she wants the homepage to look like???

I hope you guys read this..and I hope I make myself clear!

First - hard to even give it all a fair chance when it is running so slow and sluggish - perhaps repairing that would be a plan?
Second - there is still a huge problem with the *new sets from contacts* stream (and grid) in that it does not actually show you all the new sets by all your contacts. Perhaps fixing some of the old bugs would be a better idea than redesigning this into something unusable?
Third - days later I still very much dislike the new set up. Since the only way to know that I have seen my contacts sets is to go to each page, it would be really nice if that were easier. I spend all my time trying to find simple things. How about just giving us our site map with a simple page of nothing but links that work fast and allow us to read messages, find comments, contacts and items etc without having to go through multiple pages for each one. Simplicity - works a treat. Particularly when you are targeting something that may not all be at the same level of technology - the more bells and whistles the more people who have older systems and cannot keep up. Unless you want to downsize that is....

How many more changes are there going to be that we will just have to "grow to like?"
Please, stop changing Polyvore.
You are losing some of your oldest members.
It's just not the same Polyvore as it used to be.
:'(

Its harder to use!!! Please, change it!

I really miss the old good 'Home page' which was personalized, practical and easy to use. The new home page which is actually united with the old polyvore page (where you could see the top sets, top items and stuff) is now all in one and it is confusing & it makes hard to follow your friends' sets, top sets top items or anything else that is going on on polyvore. pleeease change it back. We really miss the old 'My home'

Wondering when the items missing from sets AND completely missing sets issue will be fixed? Is this only happening to ME today???

As for the new site design I will eventually get used to it, this old dog learns new tricks but it does take time.

Thank you for listening to us i hope realy that you give homepage back.I realy miss see my contacts sets when i go on polyvore. It was much clarifying when i go to homepage and see in one look clearly my new likes, my new comments,my new contacts,or a new contest winning,or a new message or a new set used.I dont like that red nummber at the top. Before i said that i liked the bigger sets but they could a little bit smaller becouse i want to see them and read without scrolling up and douwn. There was nothing wrong with polyvore before.I liked polyvore becouse it is a creative site dont change if i want to meet people i go to facebook. PLEASE GIVE OUR OLD HOMEPAGE BACK!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU...

It seems likes everyone loves the larger sets, that's the the compliment I've been seeing from people who like this layout. Honestly, keep the larger sets, I don't care about that. It's the old layout that I severely miss and want back. It's so much more work now. You have to switch from page to page, you can't tell the difference between top sets, your contact sets, sets they liked, the site is much slower, you got rid of some things that I'm sure people would love to have back, people are getting less likes and comments, and instead of being organized like you claim, it's more confusing and cluttered. Having to go from page to page just to get everything that we use to get on one for the most part is not user friendly at all. How many negative comments do you need until you realize that you made a mistake in completely changing the site? Of course changes are a apart of life and something that will happen eventually, but this is a website and I thought the opinions from the users of the it mattered the most. You guys always make changes and you smack them on us really abruptly. Since when did the opinions of 200 make up your mind, when this site has thousands? That's ridiculous. It seems you guys love the little positive feedback you get but you could care less about the huge amount of negative feedback. So just because a tiny amount love it, that's enough reason to keep it, even if everyone else absolutely hates it. Don't be shocked when you lose activity and members over it. Maybe you guys should stick to the motto "if it's not broken, don't fix it."

I absolutly hate the new design!!!!!! Its confusing and so much more complicated than before. The old design i could quickly check everything then move on but now i have to reazd through alll the new activity to find out just one thing its annoying i HATE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Polyvore Veteran (4 Years!) said...

Hi there Polyvore,

Just wanted to let you know that this is the first time I have seen some of the most oldest and most tolerant members actually disliking what you did to such an extent, that there is a real danger of them leaving. We are talking about members who have loyally stayed here for three to four years! Surely when these veterans dislike what is happening and when they call it quits, it is enough to set alarm bells ringing.

As more and more people leave, there will be less reason to return. Part of the set making process is having a close knit group of contacts.

attackedlikealeo said...

I don't like it, what about the people who are on all the time?
We had no say in this - to be honest it was PERFECT the way it was.
I don't see why after every so often things HAVE to change, this maybe be a fashion website,
but the website itself doesn't have to conform to change.

It's confusing and the activity notifications are annoying - If we want to look through our activity updates, we'd look through them!
My contacts do not see my sets, and I don't see my contacts sets, which are allot of hard worked fashion, art, cropping and also life sets.
This is just disconnecting us with what we know, people we like to browse at, look on and admire to.

Change isn't always for the better.

Just change it back.

Its getting there! The HUGE sets are WONDERFUL and also it is easier to 'like' someone now.

BUT:
Cannot find the top sets.

Cannot 'explore' either. Like to explore 'up and coming' sets.

Keep working on it, the HUGE sets makes it so much better, especially for those that dont know how to make a 'big' set. Now, their work can be seen.

Im not so sure I like the new design, I want my old homepage back please, AND You need to remember that this is polyvore, not facebook, not tumblr, not twitter, and not myspace. And also, I've been having very major problems with my editor. When I try to choose items to put in it, they all show up blank. When I click on them to show up in the larger box beside it are invisable aswell. I cant see the items when they are on the set either. I can only see them once the set is published.. Ive tried more than one computer and all of them are having the same problem. I also have two polyvores and botha ccounts have the same issue. Ive cleared my cookies and history and Ive tried alot of things Ive read online. I really want some feedback or answers because I really love Polyvore and I want to start using it again. Polyvore team, please send me a message -http://slightlysami.polyvore.com/ OR -http://s-sm.polyvore.com/ Thank you SO much<3

ALSO, one more thing, I post ART SETS to my crazy political blog, I am also going to open a fashion exclusive blog.

THEY ARE NOT POSTING into Wordpress, today.

That also needs attention.

Thank you for continuing to keep us educated about the site changes. It is obvious that your team really LISTENS to the users... as a former user interface designer, I can tell you that it is VERY RARE for programmers to be this responsive to user feedback! The new button pointing to the "Polyvore" logo as "home" is a cute solution to the confusion. Also, the tutorial in this latest post, explaining the difference between streaming and grid options, was very clear and helpful. I can see why more than 50 items would slow the site down... that makes a lot of sense. All in all, the new design is a good one: the Home page looks "out" into the world of Polyvore, the Activity page looks "in" to my own performance. Elegant!

Although it was surprising, I actually like the new layout- going to take some time to get used to it though. I have no problems with it

there are parts of the layout change I really like. For example, the activity page. However I find it more difficult to browse my contacts and groups sets now which really takes away from the polyvore experience.

Bring back the top items!

I wish you'd care more about us Polyvore users who go on REGULARLY and are loyal to Polyvore, but some of my poly-friends and I have agreed it seems your caring more to the users who hardly ever go on. Although it's true 'we'll get used to the changes' I will always miss the way Polyvore was... T____T but thanks for trying to improve Polyvore.

I really liked it the way it was. Now i can haldly get to my contacts sets!

The site is so ridiculously slow that I cannot create a single set. Loading takes way too long, items arent clipping properly, the site is unusable.
I am a daily Polyvore user, but it doesn't look like it will stay that way since you cannot do anything. Nothing loads!
And as many have stated, it seems a bit backwards to make huge, dibilitating changes for some possible new users when the rest of us who actually do use and support the site (and have for years) are happy with it. I guess loyalty doesn't account for much with you guys ):
Someone 'new' to the site would have issues using it regardless, they would have to get used to it either way, like the rest of us did.
I have really been trying to 'get used to' it, but it really is a terrible layout.
In one sentence you say that you cannot allow 100 items bc of the servers and loading times, and then in the next tell us it's slow because of the same issue - server hogging - because of bigger sets?!
Perhaps you should offer personalization of the homepages as other sites do - so we can each move around and view what we want on the page.. not only would that have fixed all of the current issues, there would have been no server hogging, no member complaints, and no learning curve for newbies.
When the Gap was going to change it's store logo, it's LOYAL customers complained and asked that they not change it... they listened and canned the idea. I think it's time that you guys tried that, too.

so at first i really hated the new design. but as the week goes on, i'm slowly getting used to it. it's definitely going to take some time--no doubt about that, but i'm going to suck it up and stop complaining. BUT... i'm having a huge problem seeing the top products and top sets collections everyday. i usually look through the top products and top sets everyday and now i cant do that anymore. so it would really help if you could put up a link to the collections somewhere on the homepage OR activity page.
