New Site Design Changes

New Site Design Changes

Dear Polyvore community,

Today we’re rolling out some design changes that are based on weeks of surveying the Polyvore community. Here’s what’s new:

Bigger, bolder header that gives you easy access to the important sections of the site. Many of you said the old tabs were hard to find and not that pretty. We hope this makes it simpler, cleaner and clearer for everyone.

  • Top = Top Sets
  • Following = Sets & collections from people you’re following
  • s = Likes from people you’re following
  • Activity = Recent activity & contests (this section is unchanged from before).

Streamlined layout for Top Sets, Following, and sMany of you said it took too long to scan sets in stream view. Many of you also wrote in about it being harder to like your friends' sets and getting less likes in return. So, we’ve opted for a larger grid view that makes it easier to view, discover and like more of your friends’ sets.

Your feedback is incredibly important to us, so we tried to do a better job of incorporating your feedback into the design process this time. Here’s what happened behind the scenes with this new design:

Four weeks ago, we launched the new design to 10% of all visitors. That’s 1.1 million people! We asked people to directly email us back with their feedback. Thank you to the hundreds of people who wrote back with detailed feedback that allowed us to improve on the design. We made a lot of improvements during this period.

Two weeks ago, we increased the percentage to 20%. That’s 2.2 million people in total. Instead of getting direct email feedback, we asked people to fill out a survey based on the detailed member feedback. The survey showed that many more people liked this design and preferred it over the previous layout.

On top of that, we analyzed site metrics. Tools like Google Analytics let us measure whether people are using certain features or not. We found that this new design increased likes by 28%, made the homepage more sticky, and increased site usage all around.

We know change takes getting used to, but we hope you’ll spend some time with the new design and continue to share your feedback with us. We're also still working on a few improvements that you should be aware of:
  • A way to comment on sets from the homepage. This was a #1 request in the survey. We’re working on it!
  • A better way to browse Art and Interior Design sets. These communities are very important to us, so we’re working on a solution that lets you see top sets for these categories.
  • Tell us what else you want by leaving a comment here on the blog.
Thanks for all your patience and understanding. Hope you like the new look! Let us know what you think by leaving a comment here on the blog.

Love,
The Polyvore Team

CAN YOU PLEASE STOP CHANGING THE SITE?! It was fine the way it was to begin with, then you changed it. Finally got used to that.. then you changed it again! Just...please stop changing everything!

Anonymous said...

I hate it! Please change it back!!! Its terrible!!

Suburbhater said...

I saw the new changes today and have only one request - can our likes be separated so that we have a tab for sets we like and one for collections we like? I find it takes time to have to go through all the sets to find the collections and vice versa.

Anonymous said...

Stop changing the site!!! You keep changing it all the time, it was fine the way that I was before and the time before that and the time before that. Stop focusing on the layout because people are starting to get fed up with all the chages, just pick one layout and stick to it. Then focus on improving the site in little ways - those will really make the difference.

Overall good changes, but id personally prefer it if the activity button was made into a bigger part of the site. the activity has been made into smaller part of polyvore, its like the polyvore community is being taken away from us! I would much like it if polyvore made the likes and messages a bigger part of the site, because thats a main reason i come onto this site, to talk to people! well thanks polyvore for these changes, i just think they need a few changes.

Anonymous said...

I HATE IT! PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK..TO THE WAY IT USED TO BE. ALL THE WAY BACK IN 2008. THE WAY IT IS NOW, ITS HARD FOR NEW COMERS TO UNDERSTAND AND ITS HARD TO FIND EVERYTHING. PLEASE, STOP CHANGING THE WAY THE SITE IS, WE LOVED THE OLD POLYVORE WAY MORE!! THANK YOU :) <33

People actually like it? It's so hard to use, the activity tab is small and it's just stupid. I don't care if it looked ugly, it was easy to use. That's my priority! [=

I really enjoy the new layout. I have a couple things I'd like to bring up. For some reason, I don't always see the new sets from people I'm following in the feed. It's also a bit difficult to get to my templates, I have to go to the drop down, select something, then go on to select the templates tab. Could you possibly add templates to the drop-down menu?

Please stop changing the site ! The orignal site was so much better ! this new set up is terrible!

Nice, clean lines. Simplified headings. Love :)

Anonymous said...

uurrghh, i hate it so much, the previous change so much nicer!
change it back!!!

Anonymous said...

this is too stupid. like, it was fine, stop doing shit to it that no one likes.

Anonymous said...

I agree with a majority of the posts i like the way it was a while ago. You need to stop changing it so that people aren't having to figure out where things are all over again.

Anonymous said...

How can people like this?! Yes, it does look modern, but who cares? If I like modern I can incorporate it into my wardrobe, sets, or even home decor in real life. It takes away the easy way to get around the site, and stop making changes! Nothing is here to fix, nothing was broken! To be honest, the layout was best the way it was over eight months ago. BEFORE you made changes every month it seems. That "sea of blue links" with the icons next to them was the most simple and best way I've seen it. All this when we still don't have more additions to making sets? Maybe adding simple html tags (italicizing, bold, underline etc) to the notes in a set and comments? Not that but MORE changes to the layout?! I'm getting sick of this.

chelsea said...

I'd prefer to have smaller sets on the top/following/likes pages. It'd be nice to just have a personal option for it, that way people can choose which they like better instead of having to sacrifice for the majority.

The one thing that reaaaallly bugs me though is how giant the polyvore logo is. I would love this layout a lot more if you scaled it down and moved menu up beside it. It would look much less disjointed.

Anonymous said...

I dont know why are you asking us for thinking when you dont give a care. Can you turn it back in 2010.

Anonymous said...

One thing that does bother me is that activity link was set all the way on the right side of the page and it bothers me. I use my activity page the most and being that it's very small and all they way on the other side it's difficult to get there because I have to move my scroll bar all the way over just to click on it because my screen isn't very big. If you could at least return the activity link to the left side it would be appreciated.

I have no idea why people hate the layout so much! I LOVE IT! people are getting way too worked up about the site being changed and making a big deal for nothing. I liked its original layout and now i love the new layout

Please change it back, it was perfect.

i left polyvore because of the old layout, this one is much better. i'm glad to be making sets again:)

Anonymous said...

The new Polyvore is modern, but more complicated! I preferred the old one because it had stream view in home page and it was easier to use. Also, the activity button should be more easier to reach!

Dayle D Ann said...

well, If U keep on the way you're going, you'll soon be back to original with the minimum pages & clicks & easy functionality.
This new layout is very kindergarteny & childlike.
You've messed up the "create" code & the workspaces so it's twice as hard & long to do a pretty set that used to take minutes.
The items now have a mind of their own!!
Will you destroy all functionality in this once lovely site in your quest for "improvement"?

Anonymous said...

Meh. I don't hate it. But I don't really like it either. I feel like you guys are working backwards with all of your so-called improvements. The look of the site never really improves. It's just one character-less layout to another. And instead of getting easier to use, it just gets more and more complicated. It's very counter-productive, I think.

Nikell (Modesty Fashions on Polyvore) said...

WOW!!!! You you guys have been working really hard to make the site more user friendly. I can't imagine how hard it must be to try to please millions of people and keep everyone happy. I couldn't do it. I only have 2 requests...

1. I liked being able to comment from the homepage (as you mentioned in the final point of the post).

2. It would be nice to have a "preview" feature that will let you preview your set before it's published. I often find myself fine tuning after it's been published.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!! for all you that guys do...I really appreciate it ^_^

I love it! We just have to get use to it and it'll be great!

ok,most of the changes don't really influence me in any way, but for goodness' sake, that header is freaking GIGANTIC. please, please, please change it back, as it is completely and utterly useless, but extremely distracting/bothersome.

thank you!

Anonymous said...

I don't like how bulky everything is! I thought it was perfect before, but it seems really annoying now..

Anonymous said...

quit changing the site! If you have something to change change the clipper so we,who arent able to add it, can get it!

am the butterfly said...

oh my - could you please just stop changing things? You don't even give us time to get used to something new before you change things again! If you must keep this layout - could you PLEASE add a "COMMENT" choice (comments on MY sets) underneath Activity in the large blue box? It would be great to just go to the comments section without searching for it or sorting through a bunch of other stuff. I really like the older layouts much better. Thanks

Anonymous said...

This is Awful! Stop Changing it. It was beautiful the old way. I am so leaving polyvore!

Anonymous said...

I don't care for the new design. Also, where did the "add as friend" or "follow" option go on everyone's homepage? How do I add someone as a friend or follow them now? Sorry, but I haven't been able to find that!!!

Anonymous said...

honestly, at first when I was chosen to test out the new design I really didn't like it, but eventually I gre to like it like the designs before it. I think its just the change that I disliked more than anything else, but now it would feel weird using the old layout. If you're new to getting it, give it some time and stop complaining, you'll get used to it soon.

brianna said...

Why are people getting so worked up over this? The layout is much more stream lined and easier to browse than before. EVERYTHING takes getting used to. I was one of the original people who got to see it a month ago and at first I hated it now I can't imagine going back ♥ The only thing I don't like, like many other people, is that the activity button is too small and not noticeable. but other than that i love it!

Anonymous said...

dont like it...change it back.

Since you all change the site so much with the tagging other contacts and everything,we STILL can't get online and offline signals or something so we can actually know when were online, offline, away,or busy?

In the beginning, the changes bothered me and they were confusing; however, the new changes seem a lot better. My only request is that we have a tab to see group activity, not just the mods but for everyone who joined the group. As a roleplayer, it makes things difficult to keep up with the groups or get involved when I don't know what's going on. Please consider this

Anonymous said...

What is with your obsession with making us all pissed? We get used to the new layout and then you go and change it again. I was finally use to the last one. You also don't return emails to your frustrated user.Changed it back to the last one or even better the one we had before you implied all the changes in the last couple of months. I am so annoyed with you. Please reply to my emails.

New layout's okay.... what I'd most like to see is a special automatic collection or showcase that lists my sets in order from most liked/viewed to least. That would be really great!

I like the new change aesthetically, its definitely more streamlined and cleaner. I just wish that our 'feed/dashboard' would be like it was before the change. It was really nice and convenient seeing all the sets big! Now its an extra step and its just BAH...

Anonymous said...

This layout is super confusing. The old polyvore was fine! And then you changed it, now I was getting used to it.. YOU CHANGED IT AGAIN! I don't like it at all it looks sloppy compared to the old polyvore and the old old polyvore.

Listen to what polyvorians want or they'll leave and you'll become a dead website like myspace.

Maddie said...

I sincerely hope you stop changing the site. It was fine the way it was before and changing it seems pointless. I really cannot stand any of the recent changes you have made. Ever since you made the permanent usernames, I have lost faith in this site. I hardly ever come on anymore because of the needless changes you have made. Please consider this, as I am not the only one who feels this way.

2nt. Whats with all the hatred and bashing.

3rd. Give them a chance to make things better, and tweak things with suggestions without the bashing.

4th. f you have ever had a sight/blog some things are impossible. You just have to work with what you have

5th. Make some positive suggestions and you will get a lot further in your quest.

Now for me, I am going to play for a day or 2 and then will comment.
Thanks

Okay. So I was selected to test this new layout with multiple of my contacts. And ever since you put this on my page, I've hated it, and so have all my contacts.

I must ask polyvore, why do you ask if we like it or not? Because since you've started to change the website, you just look at what people saying positive things are saying. I don't even know why I'm writing this comment, because I know you won't take it into consideration because its aganist what you believed.

I liked when I could see my sets and my activity on the same pages. I used to go onto my contacts sets for inspiration, a smile, or a laugh. And now I never even look at my contact sets unless I'm tagged in them.

Everyone is getting less and less set views. And likes. And also, I just miss my old polyvore, where I could see everything.

I've had multiple accounts on her for multiple reasons. And I made the first one over three years ago. Almost four years ago. I want those days to come back.

How about doing things we've been asking for for the last three and a half years? Like an online/offline symbol. Or a chat bar? Those things?

Not the design changes that are screwing everyone up.

I like this one a lot better than the other one. Thanks for listening to us! It looks a lot easier to maneuver around the site than the other one. Again, thanks so much!

Ok. First off, people, PLEASE stop being so HARSH!!! I mean u might not LOVE the new layout but u dont have to be so HARSH with ur words HATE and TERRIBLE!!! Why?? Because that is just plain mean and immature. Ok, now that I got that out of me, ik Polyvore is making A LOT of changes right now. I honestly dont really like this new layout with the EXTREMELY HUGE heading, n the really small activity button. I prefer the most recent layout because the sets look bigger n better on the homepage n i can see the detailes better. But I dont HATE it. U never know, we might turn up to get used to n like this new layout. But as they said, things take time to get used to. So please put this into consideration and make improvements that wont make us get mad.

Thank you

Please change it back. I don't like it all that much, I think the older layout was much easier to work with, and I thought it looked perfectly fine. Obviously you're not going to go back to the old one because apparently "nobody liked it", but honestly, ,my little slice of the polyvore universe isn't all that happy about the changes themselves. I don't understand why you keep changing the site, because it was fine before! I'm getting pretty aggravated with all the changes. Will you guys ever leave well enough alone?

Anonymous said...

i think that you guys are trying, and thats really amzing, but sometimes too many changes just does not sit well. maybe try spacing it out more, give us time to get used to it and maybe let us know before hand? thanks guys! i rly love all the work you do

Anonymous said...

JEEZ PEOPLE WILL YOU GROW UP ALREADY!! First off...this is NOT your site, the officials of polyvore can do what ever they want to do to THERE SITE!! and if you leave that's your decision. Who cares...they'll just get people that are gonna sign up and replace all of you. Secondly, all this rudeness is just RIDICULOUS. If you don't like it that's fine, but you don't have to be so rude about it. I have not seen so much disrespect for someone trying to be equal with what everyone would prefer; in my life. Maybe if you're nicer they'll listen. Oh and take into consideration that half the time your comment is not even cared about, whether you leave the site is never gonna be cared about so just GROW UP and DEAL WITH IT or leave!!! Since you hate the changes everytime they change it, obviously they're not listening so leave or shut up!!

A said...

Please, if you want to change something, the limit of items allowed in a set and the limit of groups allowed per set should both be increased! If we can submit a set to as many contests as we want, we should be able to submit our sets to as many groups as we want.

Anonymous said...

Simply people do not like change...so what! I prefer the new layout, however, if you choose to change it back for the people who cannot deal with change then fine. As long as you keep it FREE! I have no problem! Keep up the good work! Thank you and I appreciate your service.

Where did the "explore" option go? It was great for looking at collections, group finding and certain sets you were looking for. Please bring it back!

THIS NEEDS TO STOP! I JUST WANT TO GO BACK TO THE VERY ORIGINAL POLYVORE! IT IS SOOOO UGLY NOW! CAN YOU PLEASE CHANGE IT TO THE ORIGINAL LAYOUT FOR A WEEK OR TWO AND SEE PEOPLE"S REACTIONS!? I KNOW I'M NOT ALONE! LOTS OF PEOPLE LOVED IT BEFORE........ NOW IT'S TOO HIGH-TECH AND GROSS. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CONSIDER MY SUGGESTION, JUST TO SEE IF PEOPLE LIKE "ORIGINAL" POLY BETTER. >:(

loshinoshinashitroid said...

The changes aren't too terrible, but when it comes to the "99%" of Polyvore, they don't like it too much. Users who were just getting the hang of making sets that got likes (although this is not the purpose of Polyvore) seemed to not be acknowledged for a long period of time when the "Contact's Sets" bar was taken off of the "Activity" page, or what used to be called the "Home Page." Things have slowly picked up, though, and if the changes really bother people then they could just stop using Polyvore. The Polyvore team does pretty well when it comes to listening to what users have to say, and I hope they take this into consideration. Thanks. :3

Anonymous said...

I absolutely don't like it. It's too big and i agree with everyone else. The original Polyvore layout was phenomenal. I loved how cute and beautiful it was. Now, it's a catastrophe. Please change it back. I wish so dearly there was an 'undo all' button on this website so we could undo all the changes that have been made to the website. The tagging was a good update but the layout and all the other changes are horrific. I'm thinking of leaving this website if this is not acted upon.

Anonymous said...

I think the amount of constant changes is a bit overwhelming. If you guys could quickly figure out one design that would be nice, because it isn't any fun having to re-figure out where things are.

terminally-cynical said...

Okay, so I reeeeaaaaally don't like this. At all. Sorry. I know y'all are just trying to improve the site but, the truth is, when something is really good, sometimes that's the best it can get. And, at one point, the site was really amazing. But (and I had my last account for about a year before deleting it recently), a few months ago, you pushed it beyond it's limit. When things can't get better, it's never good to make major changes. And it's been going downhill ever since.
Please change it back to the amazing polyvore so many of us knew and loved.

I like the recent changes and the others (before this) as well but it hasn't been good for my accnt -- at all. It's a mystery as to why but my stats have been all wonky -- dropping from 2000 views to 0 views in one day (As if!) Pre-shift, I was in the top 1000 nearly every day. If not, I was in the top 5000. It was the way it was. Now, in the week after the changes, I'm very rarely in the top 1000 or 5000 viewed. Or anything else. The ONLY change happened on your end and changed everything for me over night. O! I was also included in some sort of showcase before, making a single set get 4000-5000 views as opposed to the standard 400 or so. It was a nice surprise and it was happening maybe a few times a month. Now, post-changes, this never ever happens. This feels unfair. As if you've excluded a certain segment of polyvore users (such as myself) from these fun little "achievements" -- as you say. Effectively, you've excluded us -- overnight! -- from the goofy giddiness of "achieving" as you have set it out. Puh-leeze! Either do away with achievements and stats altogether or else level the field again. One or the other. Instead you took away our ghosts & pellets in the game of polyvore pacman. It feels disrespectful and thus, I have lost respect for you, Polyvore.

The new Polyvore is just confusing and ugly.

i really don't think that comments calling the site stupid or just being hateful for the sake of it are necessary, but i do have a few respectful complaints. i registered on polyvore less than a year ago, and i thought that the site was perfect then. there were a few months of blissful routine, and then you started making changes. i appreciate the fact that you want to make things better for us, but i think you should listen a bit more to the polyvore community. i see almost every comment on every changes post is unhappy. i don't really see how the majority of those surveyed cpuld have liked the new layouts when so many seem to be unhappy when the changes are made. i would really like to see you surveying the entire community, of that's possible, even if its just with a "like" or "dislike" option and a comments section. i really love polyvore, and it is one of the best things that i do with my time. however, we can always make changes and move forward, and that will work best if the entire community has a say in whatever improvements you'd like to make. thank you for your consistent and persistent consideration of this wonderful and unique community.

I really liked the most recent "old" way we could browse the sets of our contacts in the main page and they looked really big. That really gave each set the possibility to make a statement, and I feel that now that I have a grid with all small sets I might miss one just cause they're too small and I go really fast scrolling down... Could we just leave that old feature? Thanks!

I actually like this layout alot better than the old one.

There is only a few things I would change.

Bring back the Grid/Slideshow option. I 'm finding that the sets on my following tab are too large and I really did prefer the idea of having the option to choose how large I wanted the sets to be.

I had trouble finding the activity button. If anything I would say make it it into a tab, or, and maybe I'm the only one that thinks this, make it the home page.

I really really hated the most recent layout of the site but I find myself actually liking this one.

It's much more simple to find your way around and Polyvore has listened to the complaints from the previous layouts. That said, I think it's wonderful. I have been very pleased with the new layout. I would like to see it stick around for a long time.

I TOTALLY LOVE IT <333

I mean seriously what do you hate about it !!!!!!! it is the same as the previous one , the only change is that you can see the header from anywhere on polyvore, its not like before where you have to press "polyvore" to go to the other sections !!!!!!!
I'm a big fan and supporter of the OLD LAYOUT (the one before the previous one)!!! but if they not gonna change it back to the old layout... then I'm totally with this new layout (not the previous one)..

I love the header and it is so easy to use... I just wish you will listen to the other suggestions I've sent you .. and some of comments also have some great suggestions too..

Thank you so much for all your hard work =))

Love <3

For me, the Activity tab is the most important. Having all teensy weensy in the corner while things I don't care about like Top Sets (I'm into art, not fashion) are all huge. Also, the <3 tab is kind of distracting, I would rather have just straightforward text.

PLEASE don't change the setup of Activity, I love it the way it is. Especially since I can see which parts of it are new and which are not (that was one problem I had with the months-ago layout.)

Kristy cullen said...

I love the change :) I think its easier to navigate and I think it looks better too, I think its good to have the grid type thing for the top sets as its easier to look at more of them and its quicker, and I would love the be able to comment on the sets from the following and top tabs and at first i wasn't sure about having the activity at the very top but after using it a couple of times I think it is good! :)

Randi said...

I get very frustrated having to flip back and forth with the activity page and my following page. I miss when everything was on one page in a steady stream. It seems like I'm not getting anywhere near the amount of likes since the changes to everything being on different pages. I've been a user for over two years and I'm starting to get very annoyed with the way things keep changing. I loved the way things were two years ago when I first started. Some changes are nice; color blocks, being able to change the angle of items, templates.. But all the changes to the homepage have to stop. Please.

i was selected to test the site before it was launched. i love it, except i think the activity should get a tab alongside 'likes, create' etc. it's really inconvenient having it in the top corner. and i don't think seeing your icon is necessary.

What's with all the anonymous hate for the website changes? I understand if you have problems with something, then talk to the staff who have answered every single one of my emails about glitches and thoughts. I really do not like!

The images are too small are therefore forced to open sets, one by one and when I come back to open a different page

are therefore forced to reload everything and start browsing!

I do not like!

Thanks

I like that it's possible to fave sets from the raster.

I find it hard to believe that people who answered the survey didn't like that part of the activity stream on the like tab.

When I answered it, that was the by far best part of the rescent changes.

Where are the links for "Top Sets" and "Top Products" (the collections)??

Lisa R said...

Every time we get used to a new layout you change it again! Please put the activity link back to a more prominent place, it's great to be able to see quickly who's left comments and tags for us. I'm sure it's quite important to most of my contacts as well. Also it's all very well you saying that you can analyse whether people are using certain features but there are some things people don't bother using anymore because you made it so hard for them to find last time you changed everything! Instead of keep moving tabs and links around what we'd really love you to be working on would be to improve the search functions in the editor and with our saved items.

First I´d like to say thank you for your hard work that you have with such a big site. I love Polyvore. But, I am the same opinion with so many others here: Please stop the changes. Barely we adjust to the new design, it´s not longer good enough and we got already a new layout. It´s really confusing to use the site if you always change the navigationand the layout. And remember: Never change a running system :-))

Lisa R said...

A bit off subject I know, but I'd like to ask while I think of of it, is there any way when we are creating sets that we could have the option to change a colour image to black and white or say a sepia tone? Thanks :-)

Robsfriend73 said...

Thank you for making this site a better place and for listening to us!!

Can you please make the header a little bit smaller, so that we can see the WHOLE set without scrolling down?

The continuous scrolling and tons of mouse movements are really taking their toll on my arm.
Thank you!!
I ♥ Polyvore

I love the rotate button, and the color blocks, and all the other things you add to the create space (besides templates). However, I agree with someone who commented way above me; I don't really care how the site looks, as long as it is not flashing sparkled graphics in a background, won't give me a seizure, and looks presentable. If it's easy to navigate then it doesn't really matter to me, in fact, I joined over three years ago, and when it was that "sea of blue links" with the little colorful icons beside each link for things that we still use now, it was so incredibly easy to navigate. Yes, this looks 'modern' but it looks like abstract art, and not the good kind. With the two things I use the most, my profile page and the activity page of mine, over at the far side tiny as can be? I hate it, and everything looks disgruntled with the Polyvore logo as huge as it is. The heart logo bit is extremely distracting! My sets get only a percentage of the views they used to, and I used to get little things like being in the top 5000. I liked that, it felt like a little pat on the back. Now this is taking the community out of Polyvore; my sets don't get looked at because they melt into the mass of other sets, and I don't look at sets any more unless I'm tagged in it. I miss a lot because of that, but there's not much I can really do if I can't stand seeing things I don't honestly care for every time I try to search out someone's sets. Instead of making yet another change, try taking away the 50 item limit, at least make it that in the options of our account we can pick what layout we'd like, and sure, I like the idea of the status things, like offline, online, busy (no recent things for twenty minutes, such as a comment, like, etc), or away (someone is on a trip, set their status to this before hand).

Fu**ing sh**! Could you stop changing goddamit!? You constabtly change the goddam design of the site and this time it sucks so bad I just wanna punch you in the face! CHANGE IT BACK!! How it was before it was just fine although it took a bit to get used to. CHANGE IT BACK!!

Monica said...

I really really like the changes, but I would love to get a way to see sets from groups I'm a part of other than visiting each group. :)

Anonymous said...

Stop changing the site. You made changes to it not that long ago and now once again? Who's idea is this? Fire them!! You can't keep making changes unless you want to make alot of people angry. I hate it this way and so do alot of other members, this will only discourage people from using this site.

BroadwayFairy said...

I should have put these in my survey, but I couldn't think of it at the time... but, could you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE change back the way you view collections?? Now there are only 1 or 2 sets per row and it takes FOREVER to scroll down to see them all especially if the collection has 100 sets in it!! Sooo inefficient... and I can't see what good that possibly brings to the site.

lips-like-morphine said...

Thanks for the survey and allowing us to have our say.
But; bigger, bolder and larger is just not attractive and does not look good for a site design.
It looks really awful.

Everything is too large.
To bunched up.
It's too difficult to navigate.
It's too white.
It's harder to browse pictures that your followers have clipped.
It's just looks...Dead and lifeless.

P.S. Those millions have been reduced to thousands maybe hundreds since the changes ( the first change way back at the start of the year)

I'd like an easier way to see top sets and top products. I like looking at these everyday and now the link is gone again. The only reason I was able to see the top sets today was because one of my sets was actually featured.

Other than that, I think the change is good.

Please stop changing the site. It was much easier to navigate before, and I have only just got used to the most recent design before this one. Overall I like the new changes. However, the things that you did change aren't the things that I ever had a problem with. I have been a member of this site for two years now and there are things about this site that I wish you would change and I think need a good look at by your team.

1: The thing I would love to see the most on this site is a way to sort my likes so as to make it easier to make collections. It would make things a lot easier if I could put sets that I have liked into different folders while in create a collection. It would also be nice if when viewing my likes in create a collection I could could click on a set and choose to view all the sets I have liked by the user who made it.

2: I wish that when creating a set we could open our saved items in more than one tab.

3: It would also be nice if we could reorder images in our saved items.

4: I know that we would all love to see a color coder in our saved items as well. Obviously this can be done while searching. Why can't it be done with items we have already saved?

I hope you will take these changes into consideration. They would make creating sets and collections so much easier. I love this site, and I would love it so much more if these issues were addressed.

Well, I liked the new changes. It's the same homepage but more organized. But, the "polyvore" logo it's super big now and that's anecessary. I'd like to comment my followers' sets on my homepage and (right now I don't remember) the "following" tab should be the first (sorry if it already is). The "activity" link it's ok altough is so far from your eyes. The most important thing is: the warning on the activity link that says how many new activities you have, should atualize instantly, not just only when you atualize the page. Should work like the tumblr link.
Sorry about the english :)

I don't mean to be rude but i really really hate it! Can we just go back to the old Polyvore? You guys say that you care about our feedback... Well I've been scrolling down the comments and more than half of them say they hate it! I don't know what feedback your talking about when you say "it's easier to use". Because it really isn't! And why can't we "explore" polyvore anymore!! I miss searching sets and collections! That was my favorite part of Polyvore! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE return it. Now the only sets we can see are the "most popular sets" who wants to see those?? They already have anough fame and likes! Now it makes it harder to see other sets that aren't created by our contacts or the "top" sets. And even more importantly I want to go back to "searching collection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I´m very sorry but I don´t like the new design. Because:

1. The navigation is too complicated. My Activity and Profil link ist too small, that it´s hard for me to find.

2. I miss the top links (right side) from Polyvore on my starting page (top labels, top celebrities and so on).

3. I loved the tab browsing for topsets, likes and following before.

4. I loved the function of commenting sets right on the fly and clipping items from the set before without opening it.

5. The view of the sets is to small, so I have to open each one to see the details. I think it was better before.

6. (a wish) I love the editor very much. Will it be able in future to open my collections in the editor? It would be very helpful creating sets. :-)) Is there a way to put a link to my templates in the profil dropdown menu?

Thank you so much for your work. I know how hard it is to make everyone happy. I love Polyvore.

Thanks for the update. One thing I would suggest is adding back members profile thumbnail picture with the set on the homepage. I normally associate the name and the picture together. =)

Since today I can't see the difference between a comment, a like or a tag anymore?!

So and so liked one set
So and so commented on your set
So and so tagged you in a set

All that stands out is 'set' and that really isn't that clear.
Can you please change that back?

I think it's pretty obvious they commented on MY set (I don't get comments on other peoples sets, right?)

Thank you!!

Its wonderful that you're always trying to improve the site, but you change the layout too frequently making it a bit user un-friendly. New features are ALWAYS a plus, but frequent layout changes can lead to frustration and less usage of Polyvore in my opinion.

I know some people are resistant to change, but improving user experience is critical. And with each improvement made to the site I think "WOW! Thank you!" The changes have made navigating & managing "feeds" a lot easier. I love the mobile site update as well.

KateOlive said...

You chose me to evaluate the new changes and then eliminated the link before I could comment. I thought I ought at least to try them out for a couple of days first!

1. Like from home page
I love this new feature! Being able to like from the homepage cuts in half the time it takes to review new sets. Also, the site no longer defaults to the wrong day's page when you you return to the home page after commenting.

2. Access and discard drafts
It find it easier to access drafts, and I love the discard feature! I had so many old drafts sitting around that I was no longer interested in but could not get rid of.

3. Bigger sets
Although this is not from the most recent changes, I love that the sets are bigger. It is so much easier to see details, and it gives the sets so much more presence.

4. Top 1000/5000 sets
You appear to have eliminated this feature, which I really enjoyed. Could you restore it?

Great work!!! Thanks!!!

I don't dislike the changes... I mean I like the way that the textures and backgrounds are more easily accessible, and i like when you added the colors, and I like the adjustable transparency thing, but in someways it makes the site less... personal. Like yeah, it's not streamlined. Maybe it's hard to use sometimes. But it made it feel more like you earned that like, and it made it feel more like the people who loved it anyways were closer to you. I'm just a bit nostalgic I suppose...

Ok, as a website designer, I have to say you guys change this website more than you change your underwear! You have to let people get used to changes. I personally hate the latest changes and was perfectly happy with the setup of PV about 5 changes ago. Back then, the whole site was user friendly. Besides the good changes (such as being able to use the two cutting tool styles on removing backgrounds and the squares/textures additions), these other "cosmetic" changes have been absolutely atrocious! I would NEVER advise a client to make such frequent changes to layout. Any changes to layout would be done prior to uploading the final content. After that, minor changes might be made, but not the major changes that PV has been doing. It's fine to give the site a fresh look every now and then, but seriously, this is like every couple of weeks to a month! If a client asked me to make such changes to their website, I'd tell them what a BAD idea that is because customers/viewers/users like stability. Your users need to feel like they are coming home, not like they have just been robbed.

Finally, allowing your users to provide valuable feedback is great, but it should be done across the board. Perhaps ask everyone in a survey format about future changes, not just 10 or 20%. Thanks and I hope you really do listen this time.

First of all . . . Stop changing the site all the time! It's SO annoying AND confusing! Just leave it be. I have other issues concerning the features on the site, not the stupid menu. It worked just fine.

You'd like people to interact with each other on the site, I get that. We ALL get that. But the thing is, not all of us is on the site to make cyber-friends. Some of us are more interested in creating a great profil-page to work from. Creating sets, draft to continue work on, sorting our saved items and making collections. But you continually keep making this more and more difficult. Because those features are made smaller and smaller with each new design and it's being pushed farther out of the way to make room for interactive stuff. I, personally, couldn't care less about that and it's actually quite frustrating.

What I'd liked changed is for example: When sorting items, I would love it if one could create different head-menus, like “Boy,” “Girl,” “Jewelry” ect, and then under that create a tag that's call “Pants,” “Coats,” “Necklace,” ect. Because at the moment I'm working with tags that, for example, is call “Boots – Ladies” and then “Boots – Mens” It would just make it a lot easier to work through once items that way. It would also be nice if you were able to view your items according to tag-name and not only by when you saved it outside of the creating-area.

I love the collection feature. I love how easy it is to discover great items because somebody else have already done the dirty work by “tagging” it into a collection. But that's the thing. It can be annoying if I, for example, am searching for only items. But in the search-resualt I'm both presented with sets and items collections, and I have to sort through them all to find the ones with only items. So if you could make it so, that when you make a collection, you have to tag it as a “Set collection,” or an “Item collection,” or a “Mix collection.” That way it is easy and quick to see what the collection contains from outside.
Also, it would be nice if you could make a collection of collections.
However, I think it's a huge problem that not all of ones collections are available when you're trying to add a new item/set, because it's not on the drop-down selection.

On to the changes you've made.

When you have a button that's call “following,” it's confusing that it's only the people that I follow, and not also the people who is following me. Perhaps a drop-down menu would do the trick?

I don't understand the “heart” menu at all. Is it sets that the people I follow have liked? I'm sorry, but I really don't see the point in this. And definitely not why it needs an entire -huge- menu all to it self. I'm more interested in the activity that's on my own sets. But anything to do my own sets have been pushed into the corner with a tiny front, like it's been bad and is on a time-out because it needs to think about what's done before you'll let it back into the main area again.

The “Ask” and “Shop” menu I've never ever used. I think it's fine that the “Ask” menu is one of the big ones, because I'm sure a lot of people use it, but I think it's in really bad taste that you have the “Shop” menu amongst the big. You should have the “Shop” menu and “Activity” menu swap places.

And please, for the love of the page, focus more on the stuff that we create ourselves, than on what everybody else is doing.

Thank you.

I haven't played with the new site enough to give feedback, but first impression, I do think the header is too large.

One thing that I think would be awesome is if I could add an item from the dashboard/homepage when I'm viewing my contacts sets or their favorites, etc. I often see one thing I want to keep out of a set and it's just an extra step to click through and then add that item. Not a huge deal, but every time it happens, I think...man I wish things were all linked up on the homepage. Maybe that's impossible though, I'm not a coder.

I would like a way to differentiate collections and sets though (as someone else mentioned).

Thanks!c

Hi Team... I realise you said you are working on being able to comment on the homepage but the old, new site design allowed us to comment when the sets were in stream as opposed to grid view and I liked that. We were also able to save items from sets that we liked and check the items out on the homepage without having to navigate to the actual set. Why have you take the option of streaming the sets away? Please reinstate that as it made life so much easier to be able to comment and like all your friends sets from one place. Thank you.

i want to be able to see my contacts advice/questions on my home page again!!! it's annoying having to look through my contacts archives to find out if they have given advice/asked questions,
please re-introduce this feature!
