Style the Rebecca Minkoff Runway Contest Winner

We're excited to announce ℳshotpink♥ as the winner of our Style the Rebecca Minkoff Runway contest! We received 4,235 amazing entries styling the Spring 2011 collection and Rebecca Minkoff personally chose ℳshotpink♥'s winning set:

ℳshotpink♥ will be flown to New York to help Rebecca style her runway show at Fashion Week next month! We caught up with ℳshotpink♥ to get all the details about her winning entry.

Why decide to enter the Rebecca Minkoff challenge?

I decided to enter the contest because I really liked all the pieces from the collection. I also had a lot of fun designing bags for the last contest. Plus the prize; where else but on Polyvore can you get a prize like this!

What was the inspiration behind the look you styled?

My inspiration for the look basically came from how I pictured who would wear this and how she would wear it. Just simple and chic.

You're going to Fashion Week! How excited are you about winning this opportunity?

I'm SUPER excited, I still can't believe I won. I currently have a cold so when I found out I won I screamed, but nothing came out! LOL! I can't wait to go to New York (I've never been there before) and to go to a fabulous fashion show too. It is like a dream come true!

Want to know more about ℳshotpink♥? Check out our full interview with her.

Also, congrats to our 2 runners-up who will each receive their own Dee clutch!

Thanks to everyone who entered! Check out all the Rebecca Minkoff spring looks here:

Interview with ℳshotpink♥

Today's interview is with ℳshotpink♥ who has been a member on Polyvore for 3 years. She's won several Polyvore contests, including the Style the Rebecca Minkoff Runway contest! Check out her amazing sets and learn more about this California girl.

Here are some of her sets:

Tell us about yourself.

Hi, my name is Amy. I'm from Los Angeles, CA where I was born and raised. I'm a 21-year old chocolate addict who has 5 dogs (yes 5). I'm currently a college student majoring in business marketing and I hope to definitely work in the fashion industry someday.

What's the story behind your Polyvore name?

The name ℳshotpink♥ started my freshman year in high school. One day I wore a very hot pink off-the-shoulder top to school and one of my friends said "Your shirt is hot," and I said "No, it's hot pink. Ms. hot pink." It was kind of like a James Bond joke, so that's where it came from.

How would you describe your sense of style?

I think my sense of style is simple and chic. I love mixing different textures and mixing edgy pieces with feminine pieces. I think my sets reflect my everyday style minus the heels which I don't wear so often. I walk a lot in school so heels would kill my feet.

What's hot in your 'hood?

Well in LA it's pretty warm out and the weather seems to change frequently, so I don't think anyone puts their summer clothes away completely. But I see a lot of girls wearing riding boots and knee high boots right now.

What's one thing you wish people would wear more of?

I wish people wore more hats like back in the 40s. I think they add a sense of mystery and intrigue.

How did you discover Polyvore?

I discovered Polyvore when I was looking for a picture of some shoes I wanted and the link magically led me to Polyvore and I haven't left since.

Tell us a little about what you use Polyvore for and why. What do you like about Polyvore?

I use Polyvore as a creative outlet. With school and everything else it's fun to get creative and see the latest shoes or the next "it" bag. I wish I had a real "create" button around all the time.

If you could share one tip or trick with a new Polyvore member, what would it be?

I would just say to be yourself and stay original.

Do you have a favorite fashion designer or style icon who has influenced you?

Right now I really like Alexander Wang, I think his clothes and bags are simple but so creative and interesting at the same time. As for fashion icons, I love Audrey Hepburn. I think her style was just classic and timeless. Her style is even reflected today with her flats and over-sized sunglasses and of course the little black dress.

What are your 3 favorite sets of the ones you've made?

What's your favorite set created by another Polyvore member?

I really like this set! I love the whole layout and I would definitely wear this outfit in a heartbeat!!

Got any feature requests for the Polyvore team?

Not that I can think of. I think Polyvore is AMAZING just the way it is!

Featured Style Expert: Susan Cernek

Susan Cernek is the Executive Fashion and Beauty Editor at Glamour.com, where she covers trends, fashion news and and contributes to both Slaves to Fashion and The Girls in the Beauty Department blogs.

We're thrilled to have her on Polyvore as our Featured Style Expert this week and caught up with her to ask a few questions of our own.

What do you love about covering the fashion industry?

It's the intersection of art, commerce and personal expression, which means the possibilities for analysis and interpretation are wide and varied--so while trends may come and go, the conversation never stops. It's also an industry that happens to be filled with a huge cast of dynamic characters which means there's never, ever a dull day.

What advice would you give to aspiring fashion journalists?

Spend as much time with your nose in the fashion history books as you do online. While it's important to have an interest in contemporary stores, designers, icons and trends, you need to be equally familiar with Magasin au Bon Marche, Madame Gres, Marchesa Casati and YSL's Ballet Russes collection of '76 to help put things in perspective.

What are your favorite trends so far this year?

Cross-body bags--they're light-weight, back-ache-free and totally liberating for us texting addicts.

What's your trend prediction for 2011?

Mies van der Rohe's "less is more" motto will take hold. While I doubt if we'll see the super slick '90s Minimalism return entirely, I think clean lines and simple silhouettes--as seen at Celine, Carven, The Row and Jil Sander--will replace some of the sculptural, embellished styles we've seen so much of in recent years.

Ask Susan Cernek a question now in Style Q&A!

Template Gallery

As you know we created templates to make it easier for you to create beautiful sets on Polyvore. The most common piece of feedback we received was that there was no way to find templates, so we created a template gallery. To find templates, just click on the 'Create a set' link at the top of your page and then click on the 'Templates' tab.

Templates in the gallery are ranked based on a combination of popularity and recency. We hope that you discover some cool new templates to create sets with!

As always, we'd love to hear any feedback or suggestions. So feel free to leave a comment here on the blog.

Love,
