New Set Embed Features

We love our bloggers and know that no two blogs are the same. So, last month we asked bloggers for feedback on our set embedding capabilities. We gathered your suggestions for improving layouts and item lists, and are excited to introduce several new features to set embeds! Here's a summary of the new additions:

Layout
We've added the option to embed a grid of items without text. Below is an example of what this layout looks like once embedded on a blog:

Item List
You can now choose which items you want to have appear in your list via checkboxes. For example, if you only want shoppable items listed, you can click the 'products' link as a shortcut.

We hope you find these new features helpful. As always, we really value your feedback and suggestions. So please keep them coming!

Love,
The Polyvore Team

Walk Into Spring with Leifsdottir

Celebrate Leifsdottir's first ever shoe collection by styling a pair in a spring look! The founder and designer of Leifsdottir, Johanna Uurasjarvi, will select one winner to receive $1000 and a pair of Leifsdottir shoes featured in their set. In addition, three runners-up will receive one pair of the Leifsdottir shoes featured in their set.

We caught up with Johanna to learn more about Leifsdottir and to get some hints for all of you participating in the contest.

How would you describe the look and feel of the Leifsdottir brand?

Leifsdottir is a uniquely modern contemporary designer brand with a Scandinavian heritage, rich in imaginative narrative and distinct design. The shoe collection mirrors this brand DNA, which is key to every collection.

Can you share the history of Leifsdottir, how the brand developed?

I conceived Leifsdottir while working as Executive Design Director of Anthropologie, where I led design teams for apparel, accessories and home from 2000-2010. I collected ideas and developed an identity for the collection from my Scandinavian background, travels and creative vision.

Do you have any favorite pieces in the collection?

I love the Kaisa, our sculpted platform wedge. It has a great fit and looks amazing with our wide leg, high-waisted tuxedo pant or a perfect dress. It also works great with one of our long dresses like the “Cocktatoo Feather Dress”.

What was the inspiration behind the Spring collection? Shoe launch?

For shoes, Tapio Wirkkala’s spiral wood sculptures were the starting point for strong curved lines that are a signature element of the collection. The collection mirrors the Leifsdottir brand DNA key to every collection – distinct lines influenced by Scandinavian design, fine craftsmanship and artful novel elements – for a modern look.

What are you looking for in the Walk Into Spring with Leifsdottir challenge – any hints or insights for our set makers?

I am excited to see how Polyvore users put Leifsdottir looks together. We’ll be looking for creative, chic, modern sets exciting and fresh for Spring.

Interview with thè cs

Today's interview is with thè cs from Spain. She's been a Polyvore member for a year and is on her way to New York Fashion Week as the winner of Bergdorf Goodman's contest! Her eclectic and artistic eye shows through her sets, which are a beautiful combination of fashion and art.

Here are some of her sets:

And her recent winning set...

(Editor's note: The best part about our community is that it's global! thè cs answered questions in Spanish and we did our very best to translate.)

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Teresa and I'm dedicated to the world of fashion. I'm 43-years old, and I think it's an age where you know who you are and understand what you like. I'm eclectic in almost everything I do. I love my family and friends. I enjoy the smell of the sea and watch it every day when I wake up. I could not live without music. Some of my favorite things are cherries, shoes, bike rides, painting, reading, and the movie Amélie. I'm passionate about Picasso, Klimt and Mary Ellen Mark, among many others. I am very pleased to volunteer in the fight against cancer.

What's the story behind your Polyvore profile name?

thè for Theresa and cs for Castellón, which is where I live.

How would you describe your sense of style?

Eclectic. I like to mix and match. It may very well be a feather skirt with a denim jacket.

You just won the Dress Bergdorf Goodman's Linda Fargo for Fashion Week contest! What made you decide to enter the contest and what was the inspiration behind the look you created?

I entered the contests out of curiosity. At first I did not know who Linda Fargo is. I searched her name and saw pictures and I fell in love with this opportunity.

My inspiration was eclecticism. I found Linda Fargo to be very confident and able to take risks. She knows herself well.

You're going to Fashion Week! How excited are you to join Linda Fargo at the Michael Kors show?

Is it really true?! I'm on a cloud right now. When I fall from it, I'll let you know. :)

What's one thing you wish people would wear more of?

Hats.

How did you discover Polyvore?

I discovered Polyvore on a fashion blog.

Tell us a little about what you use Polyvore for and why. What do you like about Polyvore?

I like everything about Polyvore. It's my best therapy.

If you could share one tip or trick with a new Polyvore member, what would it be?

Be yourself. You cannot create from the soul by looking at what's to your side.

Do you have a favorite fashion designer or style icon who has influenced you?

Wow, there are so many! I love Galliano, the elegance of Valentino, and the simplicity of Calvin Klein. I also love Manolo Blahnik shoes, G-Star jeans, Converse sneakers, and t-shirts by Custo Barcelona.

What are your 3 favorite sets of the ones you've made?

All of them, they were created from the heart.

What's your favorite set created by another Polyvore member?

I love all sets created by Polixena and meliloto.

Got any feature request for the Polyvore team?

No, just my congratulations. You are great.

Dress Bergdorf Goodman's Linda Fargo for Fashion Week Winner

Linda has finally chosen the winner of our Dress Bergdorf Goodman's Linda Fargo for Fashion Week contest! Congratulations to thè cs, whose finely feathered set will be the inspiration for Linda's look!

Selected for its cheeky twist on comfortable practicality, thè cs's winning set channels Linda's quintessential style while echoing her creative sensibilities. Rather than clip a traditional look, thè cs conjured Linda's clever resourcefulness and fashioned a skirt of feathers and accessorized it with standout accessories. Unexpected and unconventional, the look is a cheeky reference to Linda's affinity for that which is plumed (this past Halloween, she dressed as the avian-ambushed Melanie Daniels from The Birds and, more recently, Linda was filmed placing a rubber chicken atop a mannequin's head in Bergdorf Goodman's Holiday Windows Video).

In addition to being flown to New York and receiving a $2,500 Bergdorf Goodman Gift Card, thè cs will join Linda at the Michael Kors Fall 2011 Runway Show (which also marks the designer's 30th Anniversary).

To say the very least, Linda was charmed by every entry and enjoyed flipping through all 5,300+ entries. So many thanks to everyone who participated! You can check out more contest entries here:

Featured Style Expert: Rebecca Minkoff

An industry leader in contemporary luxury handbags, accessories, and apparel, Rebecca Minkoff’s playful and subtly edgy designs are a favorite of girls everywhere - from downtown to uptown, in the US and abroad.

In the recent months, you have had the amazing opportunity to not only design a handbag for Rebecca Minkoff but also show how you'd style her spring collection for the runway. And now we're thrilled to have Rebecca as our Featured Style Expert this week!

We caught up with Rebecca to ask her some questions:

Why did you want to become a designer?

I was a dancer throughout high school. My dance teachers told me that I was too tall, too long, and I threw off the symmetry. I wasn’t able to perform in any of the shows because of my height and my long arms, so they put me in the costume department. It was a performing arts high school and had a serious costume department; I started learning in depth how to make patterns, construct garments, and drape garments. At 17, I wasn’t interested in college, and my brother knew designer Craig Taylor, and called him up to get me an internship. At 18, I moved to New York City to begin the internship and I worked with Craig Taylor for two years. The CEO allowed me to work on my own clothing line when I had free time during the day… and that’s how it all began.

What's been your career highlight or favorite professional moment?

The highlight of my career was the first time I saw someone carrying my bag. I still get excited and sometimes stop them on the street and ask how they like their bag, and where they bought it from.

Who do you get your inspiration from?

Most of my inspiration comes from traveling. I’m constantly taking pictures and exploring new places. Being amongst different cultures I think is pretty inspiring.

What advice would you give to aspiring designers and stylists?

Be persistent!!

in Style Q&A!
