Fall Fashion Advice with Glamour

Earlier this month, Glamour magazine readers shared some of their pressing style questions with us. And as the fashionistas you are, you proved ready for the challenge! From mixing prints to dressing up for dates, your style advice was simply fabulous. As we gear up for the fall, we thought we'd highlight some of your style tips. Whether you're looking for affordable items, dressing for a date, or attending a black-tie event, we've got you covered.

Looking for affordable items for fall? Here are lyudmyla's top five picks:

Top 5

Lace halter blouse. Add a pencil black skirt or pants, or under a v-neck sweater paired with a maxi or midi skirt and you have your trendy 2011 fall look with a touch of 40s elegance.

Mixed-print scarf. For under $10 you can add a print to almost any of your outfits.

Short blazer. Wear a bright color to pick up on fall's color trends. It's simple "architectural" cut can be  androgynous with a buttondown shirt, black pant boots and hat or mix in some silk, knitwear, and leather to compliment the texture craze.

Hand-held handbag. The latest accessory trend for the fall 2011 season. Buying a colorful one will not only brighten up your outfits, but also bring it from yesterday into today’s fashion world.

Platform ankle boots. These were featured on multiple fall 2011 runways and are a must-have this coming fall and winter season.

Need help dressing for a fall date? blujay's advice is universal.

Falling For You

The answer is simple. Whatever you feel most comfortable or confident in, that's what you should wear for a date. If you love to rock a great pair of jeans, wear them. If you're a girly girl, go full tilt in a floral dress with a cozy cardigan. If you're an edgy chick, take him to the edge with you. If you feel comfortable, your date will too. And he's on a date with you, right? So he must like you just the way you are. Here are a few suggestions to help along. All of the pieces I use are generally under $100, so you won't be breaking the bank.

Black-tie wedding on your calendar this fall? thefunkyfashionista has some styling tips for you.

Black Tie Wedding Outfit Ideas

Most people used to think black-tie events called for conservative, elegant dresses. It does, but that doesn't mean you can't spice up your look and modernize it. Go with a longer dress, just because it's more formal. If you want to show some skin without looking inappropriate, you might want to try a dress with a sheer skirt like the Alexander McQueen strapless velvet gown. Some cool colors to try out would of course be black, as well as, navy, emerald green, ruby red, plum, purples, teal, and a pretty beige. Stay away from white or ivory, these colors should be left alone to the bride! Try dressing up your look with a statement necklace, sparkly stud earrings, and a good clutch.

Interview with ciceronian

Today's interview is with ciceronian who proves to us that good things come in small packages. This Chicagoan has been a Polyvore member for three years and is known for creating miniature sets that make a stylish statement in a big way. Check out some of her sets:

Gaudi's Barcelona

"Mrs. Robinson, you're trying to seduce me."

9482935825

Tell us about yourself.

First of all, thanks so much for featuring me on the blog. I’ve been obsessed with Polyvore for a long time now and it’s a thrill to be recognized. My name is Rosie, and I’m a 19-year old college student studying Art History and Political Science. I live in Chicago, Illinois. In my free time, I like to watch a lot of TV (mostly Mad Men and SpongeBob), lay around with my friends, go to restaurants and museums, and travel whenever I get the chance. I’m all about Old Hollywood, yachts and seafaring, Renaissance Art, and superhero movies.

What are your personal aspirations?

My dream job is to be a Museum Curator. I enjoy classic art so much and the idea of actually making money while enjoying it (obviously other things are involved, but you get my drift) sounds totally ideal to me. I also dream of one day becoming rich enough to afford the clothes I feature in my sets.

How has Polyvore affected your life?

Polyvore has exposed me to so many different senses of style. A lot of the people I follow have a taste in clothing that is wildly different from mine, yet I still enjoy and appreciate them so much. Looking at other people’s sets on Polyvore has also helped me to become more adventurous with my own sets, and with my real-life clothing choices.

Describe your personal sense of style.

Simple, clean, and colorful. My goal in dressing is to be able to look back at pictures of me 10 years from now and not be embarrassed about anything. I try to buy stuff that will stand the test of time. This means quality materials, and never wearing more than one trendy thing in an outfit. The fastidiousness of classic movie stars like Grace Kelly and Katharine Hepburn inspires a lot of the choices I make when it comes to clothes, hair, and makeup. My only accessories are pearl earrings and sunglasses. I’m a nut about how things fit and I love combining bright and unexpected colors.

What are some of your favorite brands?

I can’t get enough of the Italians: Bottega Veneta, Prada, and Giambattista Valli especially. If I may quote Kanye West’s twitter, their clothes have the kind of “#LUXURYREALNESS” that you can’t fake. I can’t pass up an Oscar de la Renta party dress, and Chanel’s runway shows never fail to delight me. J.Crew’s delicious color combinations and styling have caused me to literally salivate on more than one occasion.

Got any feature requests for the Polyvore team?

I like Polyvore just the way it is.

Meet Hanneli Mustaparta of Hanneli.com!

The New Queen of Street Style

We have two amazing bloggers who share the award of Best Fashion Insider for the Polyvore Blogger Awards. Today we're excited to talk to winner Hanneli Mustaparta of Hanneli.com! You voted for Hanneli as the Best Fashion Insider and it's easy to see why. Hanneli is a former model who brings her unique personal style and insider perspective to her readers every day. You can also spot her riding around town on her bicycle in the most fashionable outfits.

Hanneli shares some quick thoughts on fashion blogging with us:

Where do you find style inspiration?

There is inspiration everywhere and I never know when I subconsciously pick it up, whether it's people I shoot for my blog, old movies, fashion week, or vintage stores. I like finding vintage pieces and work them into my current wardrobe.

How did you start blogging and how did you become successful?

I started blogging for a fashion website in Norway. I quickly got international readers, so I thought I'd start writing in English. Shortly after, in March 2009, I started Hanneli.com.

What's your advice to aspiring fashion bloggers?
Find your own niche, don't try to reach too wide. Instead of trying to please everyone, have confidence in your own taste and show it to your readers.

Meet Geri Hirsch of Because I'm Addicted!

Polyvore Blogger Awards: Because I'm Addicted

You voted for Geri Hirsch of Because I'm Addicted for the Best Fashion Insider in the Polyvore Blogger Awards, and now it's time to meet the woman behind the blog! Geri started blogging five years ago and has been bringing her readers amazing editorial shots and first peeks at many collections and trends.

But what sets Geri apart is that she also creates delicious recipes and gorgeous food photography that make reading her blog a truly fun experience all around. If you're crafty, you'll also love Geri's DIY section.

We caught up with Geri to talk a little about her inspiration and how she has stayed focused on blogging for the last five years.

Where do you find style inspirations?

Everywhere and anywhere. From other people, the streets, art, photography, store windows, music, other blogs, restaurants, architecture, the world is our playground.

How did you start blogging and how did you become successful?

I started out of a thirst for creativity at my first full time terribly boring 9-5. A blog was the best option. As for success, a big part of it was "right place right time." I started 5 or so years ago when blogs were just breaking out and I've benefited greatly from the momentum. And most importantly, I stuck with it and never gave up.

What's your advice to aspiring fashion bloggers?

Do it for the right reasons, stick with it and never give up! Hard work pays off.

--------------------
Thanks, Geri!

Geri is taking over the Polyvore home page today so check out her top picks -- fashion staples that you must have in your closet, and follow her on Because I'm Addicted!

Interview with glitznglam0587

Today's interview is with glitznglam0587, who has been a Polyvore member for three years. As the winner of our HUDSON & Georgia May Jagger Style Inspiration contest in March, her set was featured in an issue of NYLON Magazine and she won a trip to LA! Here are some of her sets, including her winning set:

HUDSON by Georgia May Jagger collection.

One more night could kill me baby...

Concrete Jungle where Dreams are made of

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Jessica but prefer Jess. I am 23 and live in New Port Richey, FL with my husband Peter and our pesky pooch Lola. I discovered Polyvore three years ago searching for inspiration and ideas for my wedding on a blog, Wedding by Color. I've been a member ever since, and if you ask my husband he will tell you flat out I am a Poly-addict and in need of treatment. :) I'll happily admit it, I love Polyvore! It's my go to source for all things fashion.

What are your personal aspirations?

I plan on going back to school for a degree in Human Services and working in the field of alcohol and substance abuse or child services.

How has Polyvore affected your life?

For me, Polyvore is my creative outlet. I love having the option to design whatever I want. I try to get on as often as I can to check out contests and amazing sets made by other members. It's wonderful to be involved in a global fashion community like Polyvore. I get to see different takes on fashion through the creativity of others and put my personal spin on it, too!

Describe your personal sense of style.

My personal style varies on the mood I'm in. As of late, I have been buying a lot of bold colors and floral fabrics.

What are some of your favorite brands?

I love Elizabeth and James, Urban Outfitters, and H&M.

Congrats on winning the HUDSON & Georgia May Jagger Style Inspiration contest! What made you decide to enter? What was the inspiration behind your winning set?

I decided to enter the HUDSON contest because owning a pair of those fabulous jeans and a chance to go to Los Angeles would be a trip of a lifetime!! :)

Retro-rock with a touch of glam was the inspiration for my set. I love how edgy and flattering the HUDSON jean line is. You can dress them up or down and look amazing in them! When I found out I won I was ecstatic! I was at work and told my two co-workers and the three of us were jumping up and down, screaming like a bunch of giddy children! I am taking my best friend Jen with me to LA so we have some serious shopping to do before we get there!

Tell us all about your trip to LA!

Los Angeles was awesome. First stop was the HUDSON showroom where I tried on the fabulous jeans! Unfortunately, there was no styling session with the creative director Ben. His wife had a baby a week earlier so he was unable to make it, but he did me surprise me with a call!

We stayed at the beautiful SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills and attended Nylon Magazine's Denim Issue Party hosted by Olivia Wilde. I had my eyes peeled, but didn't see her. The next two days were free, so my friend Jen and I spent them checking out the sights of Hollywood! It was an amazing experience!

Got any requests for the Polyvore team?

I love the many features on Polyvore! Keep up the great work! :)

Meet Kristina Bazan of Kayture!

Kayture

One of the most exciting categories in the Polyvore Blogger Awards was the Community's Choice category where you nominated your favorite blogger. The winner of this category is Kristina Bazan of Kayture! Kristina is a student and fashion blogger from Switzerland. On Kayture, you can find Kristina in chic, polished looks. We talked to Kristina about her style inspirations and how she gained a loyal following on her blog.

Where do you find style inspirations?

I get my inspirations from almost everything that surrounds me: it is important to have a sensible eye to beautiful things in our daily life. I am inspired by someone on the street, the decoration or the ambiance of a restaurant, or even a movie. Those types of inspirations are the best because they are very personal. I also love reading Vogue or Elle -- they always show beautiful pictures and the clothes look gorgeous. It gives me a lot of ideas. I think that mixing some personal life inspirations with high fashion magazine editorials can create something very interesting and unique.

How did you start blogging and how did you become successful?

I started to work seriously on Kayture this January. I have always been passionate about fashion, art and style. When I discovered web communities such as Lookbook and Blogger, I became aware that we all have our own fashion voice to share with people and it is possible to do so via the internet. The idea of creating a blog came to me at the end of year 2010, so I created an account on Lookbook and Blogger and slowly started to make some posts.

My boyfriend James, who is a really talented photographer, helped me a lot in starting my blog. He takes almost all of the pictures on my blog -- we're a great team. I think that what makes Kayture "successful" is the fact that James and I work a lot to provide not only regular posts but also good quality pictures with good ideas and original stylings. If I don't like a picture or an outfit, I will never show it on my blog.

What's your advice to aspiring fashion bloggers?

It is very important to stay true to yourself, and be confident with your own personal style and tastes. Starting to copy somebody isn't a good idea. A good blog has to show a face of your peronality, of what you like and what you don't. Also, don't buy big designers simply because it is fashionable: you can create an amazing outfit by making interesting combinations even with second-hand clothes.

Thanks, Kristina! Kristina is taking over the Polyvore homepage today so be sure to check out her picks and follow her on Kayture!

Meet Blair Eadie of Atlantic-Pacific!

Most Coveted Closet - Atlantic Pacific

Whose closet would you love to raid? It turns out that many of you would love to own Blair Eadie's quirky and fun wardrobe. From her Chanel brooch to bold striped dresses, Blair certainly knows how to inspire her readers with her style! You voted for her blog, Atlantic-Pacific, as the winner of the Most Coveted Closet category in the Polyvore Blogger Awards. We sat down with Blair to find out a little more about her.

Where do you find style inspirations?

I find my style inspiration everywhere, from the weather patterns in San Francisco, to the unique color chips that come across my desk at work. I am always looking for new inspiration in designs, sites, and brands that challenge the status quo and innovate. Most often I am inspired by the past.

How did you start blogging and how did you become successful?

I followed so many other blogs on the web both for work and pleasure and decided it would be fun to give it a try myself and document my daily outfits. To be called successful is so surreal - so thank you. I would like to think the key to my success has been hard work and passion.

What's your advice to aspiring fashion bloggers?

Always be yourself.

Meet The Looks for Less!

The Looks For Less Recessionista

Can you look fashionable without spending a lot of money? The answer is definitely yes. You voted The Looks for Less for Best Budget Blog in the Polyvore Blogger Awards, and now it's time to meet Jennifer, the mastermind behind the blog! Jennifer graduated from Florida State University and blogs about how to get high fashion looks with realistic budgets. We sat down with Jennifer to learn more about her style inspirations and tips to success.

Where do you find style inspirations?

I find style inspiration everywhere. My biggest inspiration comes from fellow bloggers that style wearable outfits. I live in a small town compared to fashion-forward cities such as L.A. and New York, so I can't exactly wear runway looks around town, nor do I have the budget for a trendy designer wardrobe. One of my favorite things to do on my blog is take a high-fashion look and translate it for everyday gals like myself.

How did you start blogging and how did you become successful?

I started The Looks For Less a little over two years ago. I am a web developer by day and thought it was time that I learned more about blogging and social media. My little "nights and weekends" learning experiment quickly became my creative outlet and I had no idea it would be so well-received. I've developed such great friendships from my little space on the net, and I really think that has been key to my success. My blog is such a fun place to gather and meet people with the shared interest of amazing fashion at affordable prices.

What's your advice to aspiring fashion bloggers?

My advice to aspiring fashion bloggers is to blog for the passion of fashion and for no other reason. A year later when you're wishing you had more traffic or more dollars, your enthusiasm is what will keep you going and the rest "may" come in time. If you're blogging for the wrong reasons, your readers can sense that and will go elsewhere. My favorite quality in a fashion blogger is their enthusiasm for the art and ability to inspire. Two years later, I'm still learning something new every day and I'm loving every minute of it!

Most importantly, your blog should represent "you." Beyond reporting on the latest in affordable fashion, I try to infuse my blog with outfit posts and reviews because no one else looks exactly like me, has my exact style, or my exact taste - the images and video make my blog inherently and uniquely "me." I'm also obsessed with manicures so I do a feature every Monday showcasing my latest custom designed nail art or my favorite nail polish color of the week. The way I look at it, the best way to make your blog "you" is by breaking out your camera.

-------------------
Thanks, Jennifer! Jennifer is taking over the Polyvore home page today so be sure to check out her top picks and follow her on The Looks for Less!

Meet Andy Torres of Style Scrapbook!

Style Scrapbook

You voted for Style Scrapbook as the Best Personal Style Blog in the Polyvore Blogger Awards, and now let's meet the face of Style Scrapbook, Andy Torres! Andy is a Mexican stylist blogging from Amsterdam, where she dazzles us with her style. We sat down with Andy to find out more about her inspirations and tips to aspiring bloggers.

Where do you find style inspirations?

I find my inspiration everywhere, but lately it's mainly online. I think that the internet is a great source for inspiration, especially because there are so many great blogs out there! To me sometimes it's more inspiring to see my favorite blogger in a rocking outfit than an editorial in a magazine. Seeing it on a blogger makes it more "real" and accessible, that's why I prefer online inspiration.

How did you start blogging and how did you become successful?

I started my blog almost four years ago and because I wanted to gave a place where I could share the way I see fashion and the way I translate the trends to my personal style. I figured the best place to do it was the internet. I don't know how it became so successful. I guess part of it was the timing, because I started before the blog craze, but also because I dedicate a lot of time and love to it and I always try to improve it in some way or another, so my readers appreciate that.

What's your advice to aspiring fashion bloggers?

To do it for the right reasons, to stay very true to themselves and their style and be dedicated to it. One of the most important things when you have a blog is to experiment with fashion to keep your readers interested, so I would advice them to wear what they like and what they feel comfortable in. A lot of girls are afraid to experiment with fashion because they are worried about what other people might think when in fact experimenting is the best way to discovering your own personal style.

If you love it, wear it! Who cares what other people might think (that is my fashion motto).

Andy is taking over the Polyvore home page today, so be sure to check out her top picks, and also follow her on Style Scrapbook!

Now Live! Personal Domains and Tagging

Personal Domains & Tagging are Here!

Personal domains are here!
Thanks to all of you who submitted your user name selections over the last couple of weeks. We're excited to announce that personal domains are now live. For those of you who did not get a chance to choose a name, we've assigned one for you. But don't worry, you each have an opportunity to change your user name once -- so choose wisely because it is permanent! Please also remember that your user name and domain name are the same.

Tag your friends in set descriptions and comments using @!
Now that each of you has a unique user name, we've also launched our new tagging feature! We've come across many of your birthday dedication sets and tag challenges, so we're really excited about this feature. With tagging, you can mention other Polyvore users in your set descriptions, comments, and Q&A and they'll be notified in their activity stream when you do. You no longer have to PM your friends to let them know you created a set for them! To tag someone, just type the '@' symbol and then enter their user name. For users that you follow, there will be an auto-complete drop down to help you easily select their name.

We hope you enjoy your personal domain and the new tagging feature! As always, feel free to let us know what you think in the comment section. If you've been online tonight, you may have noticed a few hiccups during the rollout of this new feature, like mis-assigned names or broken links. We're very sorry about that. Our team is still here in the office working late to fix it -- please be patient with us!

Love,
The Polyvore Team

Interview with LSAMSAM

Today's interview is with LSAMSAM who has been a rockstar member of the community for a year now. Her set layouts are eye-catching and she has a great knack for style. And if you're looking for fun ways to wear fashion trends, you should definitely check out some of the great collections she's compiled! Here are some of her sets:

Beat the heat with Bohemian

Beach to Boardwalk - Vermont Style

Thank you Kyler Jewelry

Tell us about yourself.

Hello! First, let me say thank you to Polyvore for this interview. What an honor! My name is Lisa. I am a Library Director in a small Vermont town and I have my own social media marketing and web design business. I love living in Vermont and working in my small community. Writing is another passion of mine. I recently started my own blog: Vermont Styles and I write a column in my local newspaper. I have been happily married for 11 years and have two beautiful daughters, 9 and 5. When I am not working or taking care of my family, I love to rock climb, shop, read, spend time with friends...and play on Polyvore!

What are your personal aspirations?

I love my life. It can be hectic, but it is full of things that make me happy. I hope that I continue to explore all my interests and keep learning. I hope that I can be brave enough to welcome new opportunities as they present themselves. And, I hope to be a woman that my little girls can look up to.

How has Polyvore affected your life?

Following fashion has always been a hobby of mine. Watching styles change and evolve is fun. But, now with Polyvore, I feel like I am part of the fashion evolution and that is so exciting.

Describe your personal sense of style.

I appreciate a wide variety of styles. I remember in high school wearing a skull necklace and shredded jeans one day and the next going pure preppy. As a 30-something Vermonter, I go for a sophisticated, elegant, bohemian style. I like mixing ethnic accessories and local artisan jewelry with classic pieces. Comfort and practicality are also very important since I spend a lot my time with young children.

What are some of your favorite brands?

I am not a brand loyal person. I visit thrift stores often and chose items that are made well and speak to me. I even help buy for my friend's vintage clothing business, the Barking Bitch. That said, Hudson jeans are MAGIC and Marni's way of mixing patterns and materials is inspirational.

Got any feature requests for the Polyvore team?

I was in the top ten for the Hudson and Victoria's Secret contests, but I have no idea which sets were in the running. If Polyvore could make this information available to contenders I would very much appreciate it. Other than that, I have been thrilled with Polyvore. The site is intuitive, the staff are inviting and encouraging and the community, well, it is the best social community online. Everyone is so supportive, nice, and unbelievably talented. I am very grateful to have found a home here.

And the winner is Aiesha, aka Hollywood Fashionista! Here's one of the many great sets Aiesha created for the awards, capturing the style of her favorite blogger, Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast.

Winners of the Polyvore Blogger Awards!

Winners of the Polyvore Blogger Awards

The results are in for the Polyvore Blogger Awards! At Polyvore, we know that fashion bloggers are an important voice in democratizing fashion. The Polyvore Blogger Awards honors those bloggers whose style and writing have inspired trends and sets in our community.

In a little over a week, you created over 4800 sets to vote for your favorite bloggers. The votes were very close for many of the categories because we had such an amazing list of nominees. We tallied the votes and here are our winners:

Best Personal Style: Style Scrapbook
Most Coveted Closet: Atlantic Pacific
Best Fashion Insider: it's a tie! Because I'm Addicted and Hanneli both receive this award.
Best Budget Blog: The Looks For Less
Community's Choice: Kayture

A huge thank you goes out to all of our nominees, and congratulations to our winners, who will be taking over the Polyvore homepage next week with their top picks and sets!

If you created sets to vote for your favorite blogger, you were also eligible to win a gorgeous Chanel Timeless Classic bag. We'll be announcing the winner of the Chanel handbag tomorrow, so check back soon!
