Member Spotlight: kimmiepooh

Meet kimmiepooh. She's a blogger, a legal assistant, and an aspiring wardrobe consultant from Memphis, Tennessee.  She's been a Polyvore member for a year and uses Polyvore on her blog to be a fashion consultant. Check out some of the outfits she's put together in her sets and featured on her blog:

Tell us about yourself.

Kim Thomas, 31. Memphis, TN native. I’m a legal assistant and salesgirl at Banana Republic during the day, and a fashion writer and a consultant by night. I’m addicted to magazines, enjoy painting, beading, writing, discovering new music, and shopping for makeup!

2. How and why did you start your blog?

I first started blogging in 2007 on MySpace (it was a personal/relationship blog) but I started KP Fusion September 2010 because I needed an outlet. I was switching industries (I used to do contracting at an insurance company) and I knew that I wanted to write about fashion but due to opportunities being limited in my city –our fashion industry is relatively small- I launched it to gain more experience and to find my writing “voice”. I researched blogs to figure out layout, writing style, and topics and went from there!

3. What are your personal aspirations/goals?

The ultimate goal is to own my own boutique and to be a fashion editor at a magazine. That has always been the dream. I will also continue to build my styling portfolio so that I can do more wardrobe consulting and freelance styling work. I want to be completely immersed in fashion!

4. How has Polyvore affected your life?

Polyvore is AMAZING. Because it’s not always easy to do a pull and set up a shoot every time you’re inspired and want to try a look, Polyvore gives you the opportunity to do it. You have access to so many brands that you may not come across regularly or could only dream to use! KP Fusion is not a personal style blog (it’s more editorial), so I can still create looks that readers may want to try while still displaying my own personal thoughts on what I find fashionable. For bloggers that don’t have to budget to produce their own photo shoots yet, Polyvore saves the day!

5. Describe your personal sense of style.

My personal style is classic with a twist. I’m curvy so I stick with what looks best on my body. I like trends but I’m selective with what I try; every trend isn’t for everybody so usually I experiment with the season’s hot color, and with my accessories and shoes.

6. What are some of your favorite brands?

Banana Republic, Elizabeth and James, Alexander Wang, ASOS, Kate Spade, Proenza Schouler, Marc Jacobs, and DKNY.

7. Got any requests for the Polyvore team?

Men’s fashion. I want to incorporate it into the blog and Polyvore sets would be perfect!

Member Spotlight: historyandheels

Today's spotlight is on historyandhighheels, who has been a Polyvore member for a year and is also one of our Glamour Style Q&A contest winners! Be sure to pick up the January issue of Glamour Magazine and check out her style advice. Here's a look at some of her sets:

the Modern Hippie

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Annie Papineau and I'm a logistics specialist for MIQ Logistics. When I'm not at work I volunteer at a local animal shelter, write my blog History & High Heels, and participate in Zeta Tau Alpha alumni events. I generally enjoy decorating and doing crafts, exploring Kansas City, and researching new fashion trends (aka shopping)!

What's the story behind your user name?

My username historyandhighheels is named after my blog! I was a history major in college (I specifically studied the Tudor period of English history) and so I thought it would be a creative idea to start a fashion blog mixing my sense of style with my interest in history. I also have a fairly strong obsession with high heels, but oddly, I rarely wear them! I just think they are so beautiful, but it's so hard to find a comfortable pair at times. To come up with a blog name I wanted to make it an alliteration so as to keep it memorable, so I finally chose history and high heels. That's the story!

What are your personal aspirations?

I want to find a career in the fashion industry that combines writing and my sense of style. I would love to work for a fashion magazine or website. I also want to travel many places in the world that I've studied in my history classes in college. I also aspire to help many non-profits that support animal welfare, human rights, and the environment.

How has Polyvore affected your life?

Polyvore has drastically helped me create and design blog posts for my website. It also inspires my own personal style and encourages my creativity. Through the site, I have been able to find a community that has the same interests and love for all things fashion.

Describe your personal sense of style.

My own style is a fun combination of nerdy chic, classic Audrey Hepburn, glitzy, modern, feminine glamour with hints of hippie/boho style. I make sure to keep my style affordable, because I cannot afford to spend too much of my pay check on clothes!

What are some of your favorite brands?

Some of my favorite brands are J.Crew, TopShop, ASOS, Modcloth, Kate Spade, Loft, H&M, Madewell, Gap, and Coach.

Got any feature requests for the Polyvore team?

I would love it if you featured J.Crew or Kate Spade as featured brands or did a look into the best looks for the holidays and New Years. I'm beginning to think about what I want to wear to a New Years Eve Party, so any ideas and inspiration would be great!

How does it feel to be one of the Glamour Style Q&A contest winners?

When I received saw your email come through on my phone I at first I thought it was a joke. It took me a minute to calm down and realize that it couldn't be a trick! When I called my parents to let them know the news I was shaking and they at first thought I got in a car accident. Thankfully, I had much better news than that! I was just so elated with my contest win and could hardly believe it. I'm one of those people who never win anything so this is really special for me!

Member Spotlight: houseofhauteness

Today's spotlight is on houseofhauteness who has been a Polyvore member for two years now. Always up for a fun challenge, you'll see her participating in the majority of contests on the site. In fact, she most recently won our Duran Duran challenge judged by Naomi Campbell! Here are some of her sets:

Show Naomi Campbell Your Rock Chic Style Inspired by Duran Duran's "Girl Panic!"

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Leanne Johnson and I am 32 years old. Currently, I am employed full-time as a television producer/programming manager where I create and oversee television programming content. I also serve as the in-house graphic artist and, at times, I assist with some of the marketing functions. Through my employer, I've worked on numerous ad campaigns for area events and philanthropies. I love taking a concept, building on it and watching it come into fruition. I've been fortunate to have wonderful bosses who've allowed me to utilize my own creative discretion which in turn has helped me gain confidence as a designer while developing my own sense of style. I think that's why I instantly fell in love with Polyvore. The site has helped me fine-tune my creativity skills while drawing inspiration from the countless number of talented people who are a part of the Polyvore community.

What's the story behind your Polyvore profile name?

It's a play on the french term, haute couture. I just love the way it rolls off the tongue, so I wanted to create a username that somehow had that terminology in it.

What are your personal aspirations?

My personal goals are pretty simple. As cliche as it may sound, I just want to live a life that is both happy and fulfilling. Above all else, I want to be a good role model for my son. If I can raise him to be a loving, positive member of society, then I've done my job.

How has Polyvore affected your life?

I'm a total right-side-of-the-brain type thinker. I'm always involved with something that allows me to express myself creatively. For me, Polyvore was just a, I'm going to meet one of my favorite bands, Duran Duran, which would've never would've happened had it not been for Polyvore!

Describe your personal sense of style.

My personal sense of style is constantly evolving. When I was younger, I was much more experimental with fashion. Since then, I've toned it down a bit. I look to people like Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Aniston for inspiration. Their look is timeless and sophisticated, like one of my favorite fashion icons, Audrey Hepburn.

What are some of your favorite brands?

I have my list of lust-worthy faves like Chanel, McQueen, Hervé Léger, Lanvin, etc. But, the practical side of me tends to lean towards brands like Alice + Olivia, Black Halo, Haute Hippie, Winter Kate, Phillip Lim, and Alexander Wang. I like to splurge on key pieces that I'll mix with my thrift store finds. I generally try to steer clear of fashion that is too trendy or out there and only buy what I know won't go out of style next season.

Got any requests for the Polyvore team?

I wish I could create sets using an iPad. Otherwise, it's just perfect!

You recently won our Show Naomi Campbell Your Rock Chic Style Inspired by Duran Duran's "Girl Panic!" contest. What made you decide to enter?

Honestly, there were so many elements to this competition that appealed to me. Of course there's a nostalgia factor. I grew up listening to Duran Duran. They were one of the biggest bands of the 80's. Plus I think my mother had a thing for Simon LeBon back then, so I was well aware of who they were even as a small child. I still remember watching their lavish music videos which were always shot at some exotic location with a host of beautiful women. They were so theatrical and, at the time, quite innovative. I was excited to hear that they were putting out a new album.

Plus, the fact that Naomi Campbell selected the winning entry is something that I still can't seem to get over! And to own pieces of jewelry that were worn by the super models in Girl Panic is a word, awesome! I guess you could say it's the proverbial cherry on top of an already magnificent sundae!

You get to meet Duran Duran! How excited are you?

At first I couldn't believe it! I think because I wanted to win so badly, the prospect of it actually happening seemed so far fetched that when I initially found out, it didn't fully register. Even after I had given it some time to sink in, I had to keep checking back to make sure I read the e-mail correctly. In fact, there are even times now that I have to pinch myself just to make sure that I'm not dreaming!

Any idea what you might wear when you meet the band?

Maybe, baby?

regallyblonde Shops NYC with Lancôme Models Arlenis Sosa and Elettra Wiedemann!

Back in June, we announced regallyblonde (aka Rebekah) as Grand Prize winner of the Style with Lancôme Color Design Palettes contest! Check out her winning set:

Feelin' Fine

Well, Rebekah recently flew out to New York City to claim her prize, which was a makeover with a Lancôme artist and a shopping trip with models Arlenis Sosa and Elettra Wiedemann! Here's Rebekah's recap of her exciting trip:

I had such a blast on the trip, I didn't want to leave! I am very thankful for all of the hard work the Lancôme team put into organizing the trip and it was a nice surprise to actually meet them before I went on my shopping spree with Arlenis and Elettra.

My fiancé Jacob, me, Lancome team, Elettra

The shopping spree was so much fun! My fiancé Jacob and I shopped with Arlenis and Elettra in SoHo and the Meatpacking District, which is my favorite area of NYC (along with Greenwich Village).

Arlenis, me, Elettra

My first purchase was a sophisticated and very charming pair of earrings from Kate Spade in SoHo and I absolutely love them!

After shopping, we all had lunch at Pastis -- a darling french bistro -- and had the most wonderful conversation! Arlenis and Elettra were very sweet and down-to-earth, and I loved hearing about their accomplishments and passion for modeling.

A couple of days before the shopping spree I had gotten a makeover by make-up artist Richelle, who is the manager of Lancôme at Bloomingdales. She did a fabulous job creating a look that complimented my features and skin tone beautifully!

Congrats again, Rebekah, looks like you had a blast!
