Improved Image Quality - Bye bye outlines!

Helping you improve the quality of your sets is important to us, that’s why we’re always working on ways to provide high-quality item images on Polyvore. Now that we’ve increased the size of your set images on the site to 600x600 pixels, you may notice some of the finer details in sets that hadn’t been as noticeable before. One of these details is the white outlines around some images that stand out when you layer them on top of color block or other images.

When an image is clipped to Polyvore, we do our best to crop out the background from behind it. However, sometimes there is still a tiny outline around the image. So we’ve been working to refine our background removal process so that this is less visible.

To give you a visual, check out these before and after sets:

BEFORE

AFTER

So that we’re sure not to alter sets you’ve already created, this refinement will only be applied to new images that are clipped into Polyvore from this point on. We hope you find this improvement to images helpful. Stay tuned for more image quality improvements!

Love,
The Polyvore Team

Look Super close. Those ugly white outlines on items are gone. look at the cross ring! Look very closely! They improved it! Thanks POLY!

A small change, but a change none-the-less. Thanks Poly! One reason I love this site is because you're progressive and work to improve our experience.

Hooray!!! A change I can be happy about! lol. Thanks Polyvore, this is a great change.

I see a tiny difference.
Thanks and all but I'd prefer a helpful update.

And to not be blinded by the whiteness of the website.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE,THEY LOOK THE SAME.

Anonymous said...

I didn't even know they were there. =/

It's pretty obvious to me. Open both the pictures so you can see them full-size. There's a funky white border around the original and it's gone on the new one. If I'm using a darker background I ALWAYS have to re-clip things myself, so hopefully this will change that! :)

Thank you, Polyvore. The difference is noticeable and will make all our creations cleaner.

It took me a while, but I do see a difference, and I do think it'll make our sets cleaner. Thank you for the update. :)

This was a great update. There are items that I haven't used because of the white line issue, and everything doesn't look good when you custom crop the image. So, thanks!

I do see a slight difference. Especially in the ring. Thanks a lot! This will give our sets a cleaner and more crisp look (^_^)

Thank you so much for this improvement =))

I have one important request, It is very very important to me to save all my sets (on my computer),,I used to press the "likes" ( the section where you can see who liked your set) to save my set as a whole image...Now that you've changed this section, I couldn't save my sets anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!! =(
Would you please find a way where we can save our sets,,as I said before this is very important to me =(

Thank you
Lou

Thanx sooo much Polyvore!! Those lines really bothered me... ♥

For people that can't see anything. If you look around the edge of the clothing, espically on the jeans can you a small white outline. Then on look at the next one. Thank-you Polyvore.

For those that can see the difference: Focus on the jeans, the difference is very clear on them.
Many thanks, team! (",) Keep rocking, all the way.

There is a difference. I can see it. In the first image there is a think lip of white outline left over from removing the background of the images.
The second picture, the white linen isn't visible at all.
Image transparency is important when layering and creating sets, especially collage like look.

I hope they can fix the images that get foreground disturbed. I know for a fact a few pictures I've tried to use in a new set look fine until you drag them in. Pieces of the actual image dither out and have basically holes within the image.

OMG TY. I'm OCD about detail and however minor this fix may seem to some, it is huge to me. Once again, TY polyvore!

I can see some difference but not a lot. I guess it's not the worst idea you have done? 0-0
Also, did our viewer on our main home page get bigger? cause i feel like mine did.

Awesome! I found myself always going back in custom to remove the white outline by super closely and meticulously cropping. Thanks!

You know what, Polyvore:
SOME PEOPLE USE THOSE INTENTIONALLY.

There goes all the pretty sets with the white outlines.
LEAVE WHAT'S BEST LEFT ALONE.

I love this idea its just annoying me that some of us use those on purpose

can really tell on the jeans..yay!

I really like this change. It looked a little bad when I put a picture on top of another that was darker, and could notice a white line.

Thank you!

While yes, this is a nice improvement, I'd like to make a suggestion. To make it easier for mobile users, make it so it stops sending you to a set automatically viewing all comments. I've tried to comment on a set I like that was very popular, over a thousand comments. When my phone tries to load all of that data, it crashes. Normally, it would work just fine with viewing 50 comments at first. I don't even know why it's changed, or if it is like that for everyone.

Too many bugs in the editor, especially on my little laptop screen(11.8"). When i use 15.4" editor seems to work better.
