Changes to your Following page

Changes to your Following page

One of the most exciting things about Polyvore is connecting with other fashion lovers around the world. We want to make it easy to find people who share your sense of style, so today we're combining the Following and Likes tabs together into one page. You'll find more new people to follow, and your creations will be seen by more people every time they're liked!

After testing this with some of your fellow Polyvore members, we think this change will make your home page more interesting and enjoyable. Plus, we've included a "Creations" filter so you can focus on just the people you're following when you want to.

Feel free to share your feedback by leaving a comment here on the blog post.

Love,
The Polyvore Team

it's irritating. i don't care what sets my followers liked, if i did i would just look on their page for them. i just want to see the sets my followers make. seriously, it's an incredibly irritating update.

why not make a useful update, like the ability to search in our own items or search them by color? that would be something that makes sense.

I always appreciate your work and the reasons you've made this, but for me it's very uncomfortable to look through new sets of people i'm following, so i missed some of them and it makes me to visit profiles of many friend of mine that takes so much time...:(

This is good innovation but sometimes I want to see ONLY my followings sets. I want to following choice as like creation and likes. I follow people for saw their sets!!!

I love the change! It makes things so much easier! Thank you Polyvore :)

To all the people complaining, if it really annoys you so much, you can change the setting via the dropdown box. Some people would like this option and it's not difficult to change the settings. I like the changes so thank you polyvore :D

Except NOW, all my fave friends sets are harder to find, trying to sift through all the likes as well. SIGH.

Hey, Polyvore.
I've been a member for 9 months and there have been many changes in that time. I had never complained in these NINE months, but this time I feel compelled to. This is a REALLY bad feature, in my personal opinion. When I first saw it, I didn't mind because I saw that I could opt out of it by chosing 'creations' only. However, now I see that it changes back to your default with every visit. I am not interested in what my friends like. That's their thing. I have people whom I follow, and they're the only ones I'm interested in. I will never EVER look at what my friends are liking, so this is only time-consuming for those of us who refresh our homepage as much as 30 times a day. I really hope you reconsider and add an OPT OUT feature. I really enjoy Polyvore more than anything else on the internet, but this has upset my pleasure of being here quite a bit, to be honest.
Love, Lyra.

I like the new change. There's only one thing that bothers me.
Every since brands started to promote sets, those sets would keep appearing in the following page, over and over again, even though I already liked them, that was a bit irritating but I understood, because what's the point of promoting if it's not going to get a lot of exposure?
But now, the amount of sets that keep appearing is very overwhelming, I like the new change, but it would be perfect if there was a way to stop seeing the sets I already liked.
Please think about it.
Thanks :)

P.s. - What about some option where we can see our friends birthday date coming up?! It could be optional to share the your own date, for those who don't want share their birth date. It's too hard to keep track of everyone's birthday, but if there was some type of important dates calendar on polyvore, we wouldn't miss a thing. :)

Hate it. I don't care what my followers liked - I care what they made. I don't like that I have to change it in the dropdown box every time I want to see what they make. PLEASE change back.

I've been trying to get used to it for days with mixed results. I really like the principle of it, but I wish I had the option of choosing the creations page as the default page.

My contacts' sets are what I am interested in seeing when I first get on Polyvore. Period. I only look at what everyone else liked if I have extra time--which I often don't--and way after I've checked out those I follow and/or published my own sets. What others liked is an afterthought. For me, it is cumbersome (and needlessly time consuming in some instances) to continually use the drop down menu. It's been annoying enough that I've redone my Polyvore bookmark across all the computers I use so that it takes me directly to the creations page, which I suppose defeats the whole purpose of the change.

Sorry, Polyvore peeps.

I like that you're trying to make new changes and everything, but this one is actually very annoying for me. I only follow people with sets that I absolutely adore, and that's all I want to see on my homepage. I do understand that there's a drop box to fix that, but it always defaults back to both. I really detest this change. If you could add an option for us to choose what option we want our homepages to default to, that would be amazing. Thanks for all of your hard work, Polyvore is one of my favorite sites.

i hate this change, polyvore. thank you for the popularity and everything, but i DON'T WANT TO SEE MY FOLLOWERS LIKES. and i don't want them to see mine. its mostly a privacy thing. i also don't like having to sort through what my friends actually made and what they only liked. its a mess and such a hassle to see what just my friends made. i really dont like this. i hate it so much please do something, im begging, because i dont want to get used to this and itll be a hassle to.

Maya-Clashed-At-Demonhead said...

I don't mind the change, but I too agree that your choice does not stay as the default choice. I click to see creations only, go to another, page, but when I come back, it's back to creations and likes. Can you please give us a setting that allows us to keep the choice we want instead of reverting back to the default option every time we go back to that page?

Anonymous said...

It's not terrible {not like the editor, which by the way, I'm still angry about}, but it's not ideal either. I only follow people who make sets that I like because, yes, I'm a picky person. I think how you have the options under the followings tab is just fine because, yes, some people will like seeing likes. BUT! Since it is supposed to be from people you are following, that should be the default setting.

Anonymous said...

I'm okay with the new change since I can filter by what I really want to see.

Can I suggest a more useful change? I would like to be able to select sets from my collections when answering questions in the Ask section. I end up answering the "what to wear to an interview" question so often, it would be nice to be able to pick from my Workwear collection easily.

Bossadri said...

great to know you are improving the site, which is already very good.

I do not like the changes on the following pages, I prefer to have only people I follow, because the number of sets is huge.

I also dream of an option in which the sets already seen could be hidden.

Also lots of trouble with the activity page. thousands of notifications badly organized. I also miss comments, even if I am very cautious about it and choose the option "comments".

With the editor, changes were positive, BUT the arrows in the notebook do not work anymore, I have to move only with the mouse and it is hard for small distances. Is it a bug?

At last, in the editor I dream of having a command to turn 90 degrees the image (or even better customizing the angle) . Who knows it is easy to implement.

Thanks a lot for your amazing work. I am giving you some drawbacks, but I understand the difficulties you might have and I really apreciatte your work. Thank You. =)

I wouldn't mind it, if there was an easy way to opt-out without having to do so every damn time I visit the site. Would it be so difficult to add something like that to the settings? Given what I know of coding--no, no it would not.

Polyvorian said...

It's good that you left the drop down box "creations" one on there. Seriously, I really don't care whatever my followers have liked. I only care what they actually make. I would like it if you allowed us to be able to search our own items, seeing as I have hundreds saved and it's too hard to categorize all of them. I would like to be able to search them by colour. This update is OK, but we definitely need to be able to search our own items. Please? :D

foliedart said...

I don't mind it but I wish we could save the choice to change to creations only rather than having to toggle it every time we launch the main page.

Sorry, but I don't like it. I get behind enough just checking on who I am following & vice versa. I don't need all the extra sets to go through. What would be nice is to list birthdays of those who would like to list them in one place and an easier way to find an item in you items box.instead of having to go through all of them to find one things..
But other then that I love p/v.It saves my sanity... Thanks

LOVE the drop-down box that makes this optional. Such an innovative solution for people (like me) who don't want them mixed together. Luv ya, Polyvore... you just keep getting better and better!

-pastelstrawberry said...

good job polyvore for making another dumb change. I don't follow people to see what sets they like, I follow people to see the sets they make to get inspiration. Seeing sets that aren't my style just mess up my inspiration. Should I just unfollow everyone I follow now or what because following people is pretty much pointless. If I can't see the sets my favorite users make, only the sets they like, then what is the point of following people at all. I follow people because I liked their sets, not the ones they liked that other people made. If I wanted to see those sets I'd just follow those other people.

Anonymous said...

I would like to be able to select a setting and have it stay put. It's annoying to have to reset if EVERY time!

I also agree with the posters who suggested an option to search our saved items... now THAT would be an update that added value. Unlike this "following" feature -- waste of time and energy. IMHO.

Anonymous said...

The change is irratating. I don't want to looking at the people who I follow's likes. I know there is an option button but when I click to refresh the page it puts me back at the creation and likes page. It's annoying. If you had an option that lets me stay on the follow page even when I refresh the page would be great.

Anonymous said...

i dont think the changes are right because one day its the way when you joined then the next its differentt the original way is way better than what it is now , i mean im sure people love changes sometimes and your help but its doingg too much !!!
when you get new people to polyvore there gonna be more confused then they was worse than the orignnal -.-
point is STOP chaning lmao..

I've been on Polyvore for three years. I really miss the old Polyvore that we had last year. The set up was easier, heck, everything was so much easier. I feel like things should go back to the way that they were then. I miss getting to look at my activity and sets at the same time. I hate complaining, I really really do, but I can't help it now. Polyvore has changed way to much.

Anonymous said...

I just don't know how to look at JUST the sets that the people I am following made and not all their likes. Is there anyway that we can change it so that can be an option that we check off instead of fighting with the dropbox to find the right setting?

Anonymous said...

I dont like the change because i dont want to see what people im following what they like i only want to see sets from the people im following

Nyika said...

Cool changes, as always, I would love to see a TAGS tab on our activity page so we can keep track of who has tagged us.

Anonymous said...

The only issue I have with this is that I'm not able to make which setting I want permanent. I can probably get used to it in time, though, but I and many others would appreciate being able to make which option they want permanent.

Cait said...

I really like this feature! It means your sets get way more expositor with every like and that your discover new set creators to follow because the current people you follow usually have the same taste as you.

Anonymous said...

It's irritating...wastes too much time. If it was left as is it would be much better.

thestoryteller said...

I follow almost 1000 people. So, you can see that trying to sort throught their likes to find their creations is quite daunting. Also, I think that all my likes must be totally weighing my followers pages. I liked the feature as it was. I would prefer it if you changed it back. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

I agree that it's a nice update, but it's SO IRRITATING. At least give us the option to set "Following Only" to default if we wish!!

Monica said...

I found the change very irritating, and was so happy when I found out I could view the sets from the people I follow exclusively.

I think it would be better to have an own page for sets your friend like. That would actually be really great!

And also, something I really miss is a page for sets from the groups I'm a member of! There is really no point for groups, except contests, at this point, and that is really sad.

I hate it can u change it back. There was already a tab to see what the people you're following liked. Can u put it back that way because this is very annoying.

x-thequietone-x said...

The change isn't really bad, I found it really irritating though. Everytime I swtich to my contact's sets only and when I go somewhere else (Editor) and then go back, I have to switch in the drop down box again. I've read somewhere here in the comments the creations as a default page, that would be a way better feature as most of us are mostly interested in what our contacts create. Using the drop down box all the time because a real nuisance after a while.

Saralee said...

PLEASE let us have a following only tab! This is so irritating! I do not want to see what other people like and I don't have time to hit the arrow every time I refresh my page. Also, the arrow does not work on my touch pad where I view Polyvore every day. I do NOT want to sift through all of this to see m friends sets. Still not liking the changes to my creation space either. It is sad, Polyvore is not as fun as it used to be.

Anonymous said...

Hmmm... it's alright! A very good concept, but I only use it when I have extra time to spend.. which it not too often! Now the one thing I would really like to change though, is the limit of only 50 items per set... it's really limiting... thanks!!

Francesca said...

This change is most likely one of the most irritating that's happened so far. There is a reason i i follow the people that i do and that's because i enjoy their creations and i enjoy visiting their profiles.
The fact most people click the 'POLYVORE' button and that's where the people who they follow creations are shown used to be, is now being replaced with sets your followers have faved,s making it very irritating to fave your sets from people you follow.
Not only that but you said more people will be able to view your creations, how come now, my sets are getting viewed less and are getting less faves?
I've noticed that this is happening to most people i follow, the ones who normally get 10-15 in the first five minuets, don't and i think it's a bit unfair.

Don't get me wrong, some changes are good, just not this one. I love Polyvore to pieces, i've been on here for almost 2 years, but this change is so irritating me, i don't find the inspiration to make sets no more when i work hard on them and i don't get and feedback

Hello! I am still exploring Polyvore and am still discovering all the great features, but one thing that has been causing me trouble is the new background feature, still. I 100% love that you listened to everyone on that particular topic before and removed it from the top, but by putting it to the side, I am having difficulties with the manuverability of the items. I must enlarge an item in order to get it to a point where I can drag to the place I want it! It makes the entire process less enjoyable, all around, really. Is there a way one could open and close that bacgrounds side bar as needed? That would be swell! I know that you guys do your very best to keep this a fun and exciting site, and I truly love it! I do hope you can make this simple adjustment so we all have a bit more ease. Thank you so much, Polyvore team! :)

Instead of focusing on the homepage and making it "convenient". You should think of making the editor easier. Such as create a search bar in the template section or to be able to search by colour. Or puting in a rotate button so that my items are straight when turned to the side and not crooked.

Alexandra said...

Hello Polyvore, this is a good change. I remember when sets liked by my contacts were streamed on my home page (on the right) and that's how I got to know new members and make new friends. It's very thoughtful that you brought this back, and besides that's optional to have it!
I'm reiterating a proposal of mine, I've made this suggestion before - could you add a Comments feature to the Contests, similar to that on Collections - it would be great to have the opportunity to talk about the overall contest! Thanks!

Sterling said...

I hate what Polyvore turned itself into. I've been on Polyvore for 5 years and two years ago if there were any change that made Polyvore more like Facebook or Myspace they would get a ton of backlash for it, like the first time they changed "Add to Contacts" to "Follow," everyone was going insane because it was too creepy, now everyone loves it. I think it disrupts the whole point of Polyvore, FASHION. That's all I care about when I think about polyvore. It's hard to log out, it's almost impossible to maneuver around it. I remember when everything was divided to three/four tabs, and now there's a page for every single thing. I miss the old polyvore, not this facebook wannabe Polyvore. The Poly Team has been going away from the fashion aspect of it and made it all about liking sets and following people.n

m4r14 said...

This new feature is genius. I love finding new, awesome Polyvorians to follow. Thanks guys xo

Anonymous said...

The change is, well I don't like it. If I wanted to see the sets from these people I would follow them. Ever since the change my sets are getting less views and likes, I'm assuming this is because my followers probably don't see them on their homepage anymore.

Kira said...

I really hate the idea of combining the likes and the creations. I don't care what kind of fashion my followers like I care of what they made. And I know I can change it using the drop box but it gets really annoying to change that in the drop box every single time I go to my home page.I have actually had less set likes than usual lately. My biggest amount of likes has only been 12 and it usually goes up to like 18 to 30. I think that my followers don't see my sets anymore because there is a bunch of other stupid liked sets from their followers on their page first. I think that you should remove the change you made to make it easier for us. Please. My home page is really weird.

I really don t like this. It is confusing, and it takes me a lot of time to find my friends sets. If I want to find new people, I will find a way, and this is not one. :( I miss the old following page. :(

I don't like this change to be honest. Now it look like following other members has no point. I only follow members whose sets I like and I want to see their new sets on the homepage so that I could like them. But now my hopage is full of rubbish sets and that's why I can't even see beautiful sets from people I'm following right now.

Could you please make a button or something so that we could choose which sets we would like to see on our homepages?

cloudcastles said...

This change is wonderful! Not only do you get to find new members easier than before (though you have the members to follow feature), my sets are getting more likes and follows because of this! It's a win-win for everyone!

Anonymous said...

i like the idea, but i would also like to be able to set the change permenantly. like if i only want to see the sets of the members i am following, i want to be able to set it, instead of everytime seeing all these sets of people that i am not interested in looking at. thnks.

Anonymous said...

Ah. I was wondering why I was suddenly seeing all those overcrowded, excessive background, nonsense sets... I NEVER follow those type of members.

The change is fine, but it would be better if you could choose your setting and it would stay that way, instead of having to redo it everytime you load the page.

canuckgramz said...

I can see where this feature makes it so people see more sets and that's a good thing, but personally I found it frustrating until I FINALLY found out about the drop down box. How about making it easier to find the polyvore blog on every page of polyvore so we could get more information about new features and how to use them?
PS: your security feature words are sometimes impossible to read and the audio is worse! Do I really have to figure out ten words amidst the babble and do I have to type all of them?!

Julieta V said...

I've almost always loved the changes you have made on the Polyvore site, and I thought that this following one was going to be a great opportunity to see more sets and follow more people which sets I like, but it seems that is not working for me, I had to change the drop box to only following since there were lots of sets that don't interest me, and I have seen a decrease on the likes of my sets, meaning that less people are looking at them, I know that this was supposed to make our sets more visible to others but this is not happening. I really wish you can change it back to the way it was before.

Thanks for listening to us, I still love you Polyvore :D

I'm used to the change now, but my number of likes and views has gone so far down that I'm at no likes and 6-10 views a day. I was getting hundreds of views and a few likes a day. My sets just aren't being seen because they're being pushed to the bottom of the homepage by all of other people's likes!
