Tell us your name, age, profession and what you typically wear every day (anything you’d like to share).
My name is Alejandra B. Franco, I’m 32 years old, and I’m an architect. I have worked in urbanism, but now I’m in design. Sometimes I have to go to construction sites so I typically wear casual and comfy clothes. But I can´t help adding something interesting to my outfits! I typically wear skinny pants, ballet flats (I’ve got them in all colors, prints and shapes - hehehe) and I love accessorizing with scarves, sunglasses and necklaces to add a pop.
I grew up in a very creative and artistic environment; my mom and my grandma have always been sources of inspiration for me with respect to taste and fashion. My mom is a ceramist and my grandma is a hand-crafting embroiderer. In fact, I designed my own wedding dress and they both worked on the embroidery.
Where do you live, and what trends are big there?
I live in Cali, Colombia, South America. Here we have sunny days all year long. We don’t have seasons like in the US or Europe, so people wear summer clothes every day. What's trendy now in Cali streets? I’ve seen lots of neon colors, wedge sandals, also lace and crochet clothing.
What is your favorite brand/designer? What do like about that brand?
Oh I’ve got a few bunch of them so this is a really difficult question for me! I love Carolina Herrera, she really understands femininity. Erdem, Isabel Marant, Lanvin, Alexander McQueen, Altuzarra, Michael Kors, Balmain and Valentino are some of my favorites. I’m absolutely in love with the Gucci Resort 2013 Collection. However, if I had to choose one right now, it would definitely be Christopher Bailey for Burberry Prorsum! I love how he took this iconic brand, including the classic trench, and turned it into an edgy yet basic piece for everyone’s wardrobe.
Which celebrity has great style? What do you like about their style?
My all-time favorite is Audrey Hepburn. She is the incarnation of a “lady” in a full-fledged sense of the word. With today’s celebrities, I would have to chose Natalie Portman. She is always herself in every look, and she looks amazing not only making her way down the red carpet but also walking around in her normal life. In young Hollywood, I really like Emma Stone.
What are your personal aspirations/goals?
I look forward to owning a chic design office where I can design any kind of product from clothes and accessories to buildings and city landscapes. I love design! Designing is the ultimate way to fulfill my professional aspirations.
How has Polyvore affected your life?
Quite a lot! I wasn’t addicted to anything until I found Polyvore! Polyvore has helped me to confirm what I want in life. Polyvore helps me stay connected with my passion for design and self-expression.
The other amazing thing about Polyvore is the community. It is so awesome to meet people around the world who share your taste and learn about other cultures and countries. I have made really good friends here and I have to thank the Polyvore team for that.
How would you describe your set style?
Maybe geometric and minimalist. Hehehe - since I’m an architect I think my sets are influenced by my taste in architecture. I love modern architecture: “less is more” could be a very good way to describe my set style. I know these might look simple but I could spend hours deciding on the right shoes or the right layout for each set and never get tired.
How often do you sign on and what is the first thing you do when you sign on?
I sign on the very first minute I turn my laptop on and sign out at the end of the day. The first thing I do when I sign on is check my contacts’ new sets. When I’m off my laptop, I check the activity window in my mobile phone all the time.
What is your favorite Polyvore feature?
I love the new improvements on the Creator page. Sets are much easier to create now. You are doing really good work! Congratulations.
Describe your personal sense of style.
Just as with my sets, I would define my personal sense of style as “less is more." I would say it is clean, sober and modern but I always want to add something to spice it up a little.
