Tell us your name, age, profession and what you typically wear every day (anything you’d like to share).
My name is Michelle Kye and I am a sophomore at a college based in Philly. I love wearing skirts and dresses the most with some kind of jewelry. And black and white. Because that's a no-fail combination.
Where do you live, and what trends are big there?
During the school term, I live in Philadelphia. There are always skinny jeans and some oversized chunky scarfs. To be honest, I don't really pay much attention to the outside world. I am holed up at school most of the time, so I can't accurately say what the trends are in the city. At school, of course there are all types of styles. I like when girls wear printed dresses, maxi skirts, and unique handmade jewelry.
Describe your personal sense of style.
I just always say my style is eclectic. I will wear girly dresses and skirts with heels, skinny jeans with a pleather vest and studded boots, tutus, and printed kaftans I buy in the U.S.
What is your favorite brand/designer? What do like about that brand?
It's really hard to pick one designer, but if I had to pick one it would be the Proenza Schouler duo, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. The line has a very sporty and simple feel to it and I could see myself wearing so many items. Jack and Lazaro have also come up with great handbags like the PS1 bag that I don't think I will ever get tired of seeing.
Which celebrity has great style? What do you like about their style?
I like Clémence Poésy's style. I think her outfits are very chic and simple and I love the fact that she is a natural beauty and doesn't cover her face with makeup. Clémence also wears a lot of black and white and neutrals, and still stands out. She is classy and makes me realize you can look sexy and amazing while still being modest.
What are your personal aspirations/goals?
My goal is to have my own fashion line (which probably won't happen till I am 30-something) designing jewelry and clothes and accessories, of course. Also, I would just like to be a happier and more positive person that people can enjoy being around. I'd like to be better at talking!
How has Polyvore affected your life?
When I first started using Polyvore, I did not really have a sense of fashion or of what I liked. But after seeing people's sets and using fashionable items and photos people have saved from the internet, I think I was able to find my style. It made me realize I really do like fashion and clothing. There are a lot of nice people on Polyvore. And it's nice when I find members that have the same interests as I do, and make sets from their interests (ahem K-Pop). It's also nice when I find members that have an amazing sense of style that I can get inspired by (and that also show me more amazing items to save on top of the thousands I have already saved over the past 5 years).
How would you describe your set style?
I think my set style evolved from framing one photo with items to now creating an actual outfit with the clothing and accessories always on the top of the set and the shoes always at the bottom like a real person would wear it. I might describe my sets as a simplified collage possibly. I still approach or hit the 50-item limit, but I feel like my set style is a bit more simplified than, say, a year ago, and I'm really making outfits that I would want to wear in real life.
How often do you sign on and what is the first thing you do when you sign on?
To be honest, I don't ever really "sign on" to Polyvore, I am always logged on to Polyvore. The first thing I usually do is look at the activity and see the new sets that have been uploaded and for the most part, saving items. There isn't a time on Polyvore that I don't save at least 10 new items/photos. It is impossible.
Got any requests for the Polyvore team?
Can you please increase the number of items per set to at least 60? Maybe it is not possible. Because of my indecisiveness and inability to just choose the items I want to put into a set, it is so hard when I get a notice saying I am almost at the 50 item limit.
What is your favorite Polyvore feature?
My favorite Polyvore feature would have to be between the "Colors" (love that you can control the the opacity of the color and frame photos) and the "Music" feature where you can post songs right next to your sets. Oh and also the rotation button, most definitely the rotation button. Sorry that was three features, I am very indecisive.
