Member Spotlight: emyemoemu

Today's member spotlight is on emyemoemu, a member of 5 years. She's studying fashion and textiles, but at heart, she's a Star Wars geek. Her sets are inspired by photographs which she combines like scrapbook pages. Check out some of her favorite sets.

& it feels like heaven

Guide me back home

I miss the ocean when I sleep

Tell us your name, age, profession and what you typically wear every day
My name is Emily Lin, I'm 19, and I'm a sophomore studying fashion and textile design at University. I usually wear a cardigan (even if it's warm), black and brown, and Minnetonka Kilty moccasins. Today I wore a knit burnout top tucked into a gray button down chambray skirt, with a black oversized cardigan layered over. I topped it off with a vintage leather belt, and an octopus necklace. I carried my DSLR in my vintage black and brown faux leather bag, and on my feet were (surprise!) moccasins.

Where do you live, and what trends are big there?
I live in North Carolina, where the weather can be notoriously inconsistent. People from all over attend my university, so there are different styles and fashions. Many of the girls like to wear bright colors, aztec prints, Jack Roger sandals and Nike shorts. In the winter, Patagonia sweaters, pea coats, skinny jeans and boots are very popular. Of course, North Carolinians love their denim and boots!

What is your favorite brand/designer? What do like about that brand?
Even though I study fashion, I didn't grow up with much of a fashion background. Instead, I had more of a "Star Wars" and geek culture background, thanks to growing up in between two brothers.
But I loved Luella! I'm so sad it's gone. I loved how their clothes all embodied this youthful and energetic attitude, but kept a certain sweetness about them.

Which celebrity has great style? What do you like about their style?
I love seeing celebrity street style, when they're not all done up by stylists and when their raw personal styles are showcased. I love, love, LOVE Alexa Chung. She's creative, smart and funny. Everything she wears is always looks comfortable yet stylish.

What are your personal aspirations/goals?
Unlike most people, I don't have a set plan. We'll see where the road takes me! I know that I want to finish school and then get a job in fashion. I really want to help people through fashion, not tell them "You should wear this, this will make you beautiful," but show them that they are beautiful and that their personal style can be discovered and make them feel confident and good about themselves.

How has Polyvore affected your life?
Polyvore has changed my life and I'm not just saying that! I started using Polyvore during Christmas break in 2007. In 2011, when I graduated from high school and applied to university, I was invited to partake in an interview for a new program. I told the university how I started developing my knowledge of fashion through Polyvore. They accepted me shortly after and now I've finished my first year. Currently as I speak (or type), I'm in Taiwan for a textile internship.
Also, Polyvore has helped me make friends all over the world. I'm constantly encouraged and inspired by them. I care for them dearly.

How would you describe your set style?
It's hard to explain. My sets look like they've come out of a scrapbook or shadowbox. They're usually inspired by the photographs I feature in my sets. From the photos I find my color palette and apply them to the products in the set.

How often do you sign on and what is the first thing you do when you sign on?
I'm always signed in! Every time I turn on the computer, I check Polyvore. First thing I do is check my messages and talk to my friends. Then I browse through everyone's creations.

What is your favorite Polyvore feature?
The changes and improvements Polyvore has made in the past five years are incredible. I love the custom crop option! So innovative! It gives users the opportunity to virtually cut and DIY their items. I think it's absolutely genius when I see a set maker "cut" off their sleeves and whatnot.

Describe your personal sense of style.
My personal style is hard to label, but my professors called it "whimsical," if that counts! Things like girly, floral prints, draped knits, grungy oversized tops and structured woven shorts can all be found in my closet. I add personality to each outfit with cutesy jewelry found on Etsy or eBay.
I usually shop at thrift stores and shops like H&M, Urban Outfitters and Forever 21, because they carry all sorts of on-trend styles, but at a reasonable price.

Images Slow to Load -- We're On It!

You may have noticed that some images are being slow to load on Polyvore. Our image generation system was overloaded this morning and while the main issue has been resolved, we're taking active measures to make sure everything gets back to normal as quickly as possible. In the meantime, you may still find some slow images. Thanks for your patience while we work to fix this!

Member Spotlight: bittersweetcolours

Today's member spotlight is on bittersweetcolours, a member of 3 years. She's an art lover who definitely loves getting creative. Her sets are always colorful and fun. Does she look familiar? Some of her more recent sets include images of her and the outfits she wears. Here are some of her favorite sets.

How to sparkle for day

Another version

Fluorescent accessories

Tell us your name, age, profession and what you typically wear every day.
My name is Veronica, I am 30 years old and I consider myself a freelance artist. Most of the time, I like to wear effortless, chic outfits with a splash of color. Color is like a must-have accessory

Where do you live, and what trends are big there?
I live in Reading PA, a small town, where people tend to dress as comfortably as they can. Since it's close to New York, trends spread easily here. I see a lot of passion for floral prints, maxi dresses and neon colors.

What is your favorite brand/designer? What do like about that brand?
I have many designers that I admire as well as brands. I will start the list with Chloe (beautiful, wearable pieces with clean minimalist lines and a charming palette of color). I will continue with Celine where all the pieces have a luxurious finish and a very simple design. Celine's handbag line is just pure perfection.  I also love Jil Sander, Stella McCartney, Jason Wu and Marni; they are all a real inspiration. Brand wise, I'm into J. Crew, Zara, H&M, Gap, Sisley and Diesel. They all adapt the trends at affordable prices and they always give great discounts.

Which celebrity has great style? What do you like about their style?
Diane Kruger is so feminine, never over the top and always effortlessly chic. She is a beautiful inspiration!

What are your personal aspirations/goals?
For professional goals, one day, I would like to own a jewelry line . My husband and I like to create all kinds of accessories. Sometimes, we also make clothing pieces. My aspiration in life is to be able to create without restriction. However, these are my hobbies. The most important thing for me is family. I truly aspire to a simple but wonderful life that allows me to enjoy every single day in its simple beauty. I hope to add to this wonderful life with the blessing of a child in a few years.

How has Polyvore affected your life?
I discovered Polyvore almost 4 years ago and for me it was constantly a place where I could create and relax at the same time. I met a wonderful community and made friends worldwide. I must say that all this had a big influence in my decision to start my blog, Bittersweet Colours.
Polyvore is an endless inspiration where I've discovered new designers and trends. I highly appreciate the incredible prizes that I've won all these years. Yes, it has affected my life in many ways, all positive, but mostly, inspirational.

How would you describe your set style?
My set style is for sure colorful. Since I started my blog, I always recreate my own outfits with pieces that I would like to own, or I offer an affordable version of styling.

How often do you sign on and what is the first thing you do when you sign on?
I am constantly signing on, both on my computer and my phone! On my phone, I check my activity and messages; and on my computer, I start with creating a set of posts for the next day and I finish with checking my contacts' sets.

What is your favorite Polyvore feature?
The creator page is simply THE BEST !

Describe your personal sense of style
I describe my personal sense of style as "Triple C"- comfortable, colorful and chic, with a minimalist vibe. I have a deep love for mixing prints and textures, as well as combining modern with vintage, but I always focus on colors. This is the main thing that I think of when I dress up: the color combination that I want to wear that day. I finish my looks with an accessory, either made by me or bought, and a pair of sunglasses. Then, I'm good to go!

Member Spotlight: are-you-with-me

Today's member spotlight is on are-you-with-me. A student from London, are-you-with-me has been a Polyvore member for 2 years, and she love, love, loves ice cream. You might have noticed her sets appearing in top sets, her friendly comments or likes from her ice cream cone buddy icon. Check out some of her sets.
But I think beautiful is simple and elegant, like a ballad with simple harmony.

Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun.

Don’t put me on a pedestal, for I am sure to fall. Just love me as I am, flaws and all.

Tell us your name, age, profession and what you typically wear every day.
I'm 18, just a normal fashion-crazy girl from London.  I'm also a student, so I would describe my everyday style as casual and chic.  I'm not exactly big on bold colours. I adore softer shades and styles.  There's nothing wrong with a bit of colour, but since I'm a little shy, I hate it when all eyes are on me. Standing out in a crowd is not my kinda thing. I'm a little obsessed with shorts, and now that it's summer I can't get enough of them! I'm quite big on boots and leather jackets. Can't go anywhere with out them.  Also a big fan of jewellery, especially rings and bracelets.

Where do you live, and what trends are big there?
I'm from a small town in London, England and what I love most about it is the multi-cultural community I grew up in.  So I see different styles on the street all the time. It's so interesting to experience the individuality of each outfit. The streets where I live are where most of my inspiration comes from, along with the feelings and emotions stemming from the British weather.  Known for its rainy days, British streets show a lot of boots - ankle and long boots.  Also a lot of Macs and umbrellas are on the streets. Now that it's summer, people often where a lot of pretty skirts and light colours.

What is your favorite brand/designer? What do like about that brand?
Oh I have way too many.  I absolutely love and adore Alexander McQueen's designs. Love how edgy, yet incredibly classy his work is.  And I have to admit I just love every single one of his clutches.  Elie Saab, the gowns are just pure perfection and so elegant and sweet--ahh like the dresses princesses where in fairy-tales!! Would love to own one, but have you seen the price tag?!!   Love Alexander Wang. His designs are amazing, so different and cool.  I love Marchesa for the elegance and subtle glamour in each of their designs. Other favorites of mine include Chrisitan Louboutin. Ohh his heels are fantastic! What I'd kill for just a pair! I adore Chloe for their bags, just so fantastic, especially if styling a casual look!! I love EVERYTHING about Lanvin especially their jewllery, it's so pretty! Love MIU MIU for their sweet girly designs and shoes!! Another favorite brand of mine is YSL - I love their makeup range (especially their lipsticks), shoes and bags.

Which celebrity has great style? What do you like about their style?
Hmm, Kim Kardashian - love her or hate her I think she is always dressed so chicly, and her hair and makeup are always so flawless.  I also love Sienna Miller's, Miley Cyrus' and Nicole Richie's style since they all have little boho-chic thing going on. I love the way Miley incorporates a lot of leather jackets and boots, giving her this overall edgy look which is the kinda thing I love to wear.  Love Emma Watson's style: so girly and fun but a little different. I think Blake Lively always looks perfect whether she's out on the street or on the red carpet. She's always so comfortable and confident, which are the two main things I admire about her style. Also, her hair always looks so effortlessly flawless. Has anyone else noticed? Miranda Kerr and Candice Swanepoel are two of my favorite models. Just adore their styles, and I wouldn't mind having their figures either. If only I could give up the ice-cream... hehe :)

What are your personal aspirations/goals?
I want to do something excitingly adventurous and fun with my life, something that'll make me never regret the mistakes I'll most probably make along the way and something that'll make me smile when I look back at the way my life turned out. Only I just haven't quite figured out exactly how to do that yet.  Time's running out, I know, so for a backup plan I am currently studying English Literature, which I will most definitely take further.  I don't like reading, and that may seem a little weird for someone taking Eng Lit, but I just adore creative, imaginary worlds behind the word. Places that only exist in your head... So, yeah, if you haven't guessed already, I'm bit of a day dreamer, but don't get noticed too easily.

How has Polyvore affected your life?
It has affected my life heavily (in a good way). It's the place where I'm allowed to live out my fashion dreams without people judging my face and character. For all the general feedback that I receive, I am truly grateful. I got addicted to it after I published a couple of my sets. It took me a while to get the hang of it because I just couldn't believe how creatively free and unrestricted it actually was.  At first I thought it was only used for fashion collaborations, but as soon as I saw some of the incredible artwork and super-fun dolls that my fellow members had created I realized just how beautiful this place really is. I never imagined it to be as special as it is to me right now.

How would you describe your set style?
Right... umm, it actually depends on what is going through my head at the moment I create them. So if I'm feeling a bit down and it's raining outside, I'm most likely indoors sitting on my computer, with a tub of ice-cream, and pouring everything into a set.  Haha .. that sounds a little weird, but all my sets feature things I'd actually wear or would love to own in real life.  I don't think my style is that different or as creative and original as half of the members on Polyvore, so I'm so grateful to all of those who take time out to see my page.  I truly appreciate it.

How often do you sign on and what is the first thing you do when you sign on?
Well, since I share my computer, I can't always leave myself signed on, so I'm constantly signing in and out the whole day.  But, if I had it my way, I'd probably sign in and never sign out! The first thing I like to do as soon as I sign in is check out the amazing new sets of all those I'm following. It's such a fun and inspirational way to start my day. I also love reading the feedback I get. It keeps me smiling. It always amazes me how sweet and supportive the Polyvore community really is.

What is your favorite Polyvore feature?
My favorite Polyvore feature, as simple as it may be, is the 'post comment' button.  As much as I like receiving feedback, I think it's important for me to support my fellow Polyvorians and I think commenting on sets is the best way because it allows me to say exactly what I love about their work, though sometimes I don't have enough time to do so.

Describe your personal sense of style.
I love mixing up different styles, like pairing a pretty girly dress with a pair of biker boots. However, being comfortable in what I wear is just as important for me, so I tend to stick to things that are casually chic and comfortable to put on.  I love loose, oversized jumpers, cardigans, leather jackets, big scarves, brogues, clutches, studded/military boots, rings, maxi dresses, ballet flats oh ... and loads more things that I can't seem to think of right now.
