Member Spotlight: fashioneaters

Today's member spotlight is on fashioneaters, a member of three years. She's one of the younger fashionistas in our community. She will graduate from high school at the age of 16! We can't wait to see where her fashion aspirations take her in the future. Here are a couple of her favorite sets.
THIS SUMMER, I.

EAST/WEST.

Tell us about yourself.
My name is Bri Wang. I recently turned 16, and I am in my final year of high school.

Where do you live, and what trends are big there?
I live in a small town in North Carolina where the style is generally preppy and southern. It’s quite different from my normal day-to-day style, but I do enjoy taking some inspiration from it and adding it into my own looks.

What is your favorite brand/designer? What do like about that brand?
Ooh, I have a lot of favorites. At the top of my list is Miuccia Prada. I’m always intrigued about what inspires her and the themes behind her collections. Maybe one day I’ll actually be able to acquire some of her beautiful pieces.

Which celebrity has great style, in your opinion?
There are loads of people, not always celebrities, who have really great styles and constantly inspire me. One of my favorites is Sandra Hagelstam of 5inchandup. I love the tough, sporty minimalism of her looks.

What are your personal aspirations/goals?
As a senior in high school, I’ve definitely got a lot of time left to figure out the future stops and turns along my way, but there are a few things that I’m really set on doing. I hope to study fashion merchandising, move to NYC, and eventually become a buyer for a large fashion retailer. I also want a pet wolf. Though I guess it’d be a struggle to find an apartment in NYC that can accommodate my shopping addiction and a wolf. Small steps, Bri.

How has Polyvore affected your life?
Polyvore completely opened me up to the world of online fashion. I needed a way to connect and be a part of the fashion industry, besides flipping through the magazines. Through Polyvore, I was actually able to contribute to fashion and to interact with people who were also interested in fashion. Polyvore also led to my creating Fashion Eaters, which is my personal style blog.

How would you describe your set style?
Often when I’m shifting images and clothes around in the editor, I stumble onto a layout that I happen to like, and I’ll use that layout over and over and over again. I tend to switch it up every so often. Some of my sets are actually of my own blog posts. Others I use more for inspiration for what I would put together if I had an unlimited closet (physically downloaded from my computer screen).

How often do you sign on and what is the first thing you do when you sign on?
Oh dear, I’m pretty much always signed on. And see, it’s not even really because I just leave myself signed on and then I leave the computer on. I compulsively check my front page several times a day. It’s hard not to when you have this huge trove of fashion inspiration just waiting for you. And especially after typing a massively long essay on a white screen, all you want to see is a colorful set exploding with Mary Katrantzou prints.

Describe your personal sense of style.
My style really is a mash of elements I like. These past seasons I’ve been really attracted to sportswear, 90s influence (mmm, turtleneck crop tops), crisp tailoring, pieces with gothic influence and minimalism. But hey, who knows. Maybe next spring I’ll suddenly have a craving for peplum and lace. The one thing that stays the same, however, is my love of black.

Got any requests for the Polyvore team?
I’ve really enjoyed the collections that the polyvore-editorial account has been cranking out. The Guest Editor collections are really great and I’d definitely like to keep seeing those.

Polyvore Stars: Dollychops

We’re incredibly proud of member dollychops (aka Helen Green)! Her gorgeous drawings of Lady Gaga got her recognized by the Lady herself, and now Helen’s the first fan to be invited into the Haus of Gaga.

Helen actually sometimes even colors her sketches using the iPad she won in our MyFDB.com contest, and we feel so excited and lucky to have been a part of her amazing story! We got the chance to talk to dollychops right after she got her big Gaga news, and she was sweet and lovely as always. Read her interview below and see how one Polyvore member went from set creator to style sensation!

My Polyvore Story

Tell us about yourself.
I'm a 20-year-old Illustration student from the UK. I'm always drawing, I love being absorbed in a new portrait every other day! As well as illustration, I also love playing the piano. I've played piano (self-taught) for as long as I've been drawing, and love it just as much.

What are you personal aspirations/goals?
I hope to have a career within the Illustration field. My areas of interest are editorial and fashion illustration. I also love the thought of collaborating with fashion brands, and having my designs on gorgeous clothing!

How has Polyvore affected your life?
I had a real lack of fashion sense before I discovered Polyvore. Through Polyvore, I have immersed myself in the online world of fashion, found a new sense of fashion creativity through set-making, and aquired a new love for fashion designers. Not only have I become more fashion-minded since using Polyvore, I feel part of a welcoming and wonderful community, which makes the Polyvore experience even more pleasurable.

How often do you sign on and what is the first thing you do when you sign on?
The first thing I do when I sign on is to see what's new on Polyvore and check out the featured sets. I'm always on my iPad so I haven't been set-making as often as I used to, or as often as I would like to!

We've seen your amazing drawings on Polyvore and other social channels. What made you decide to post your Lady Gaga art?
As soon as I heard her album 'Born This Way', I decided to work on a series of Gaga portraits based on each track of her album. I've continued drawing her ever since, and started noticing positive reactions from Gaga fans, which gave me the confidence to carry on and improve. Drawing Lady Gaga has become a regular thing now, especially after Gaga herself expressed interest in my work!

Congratulations on being invited by Lady Gaga to the Haus of Gaga! How did you feel when hearing that?
Thank you so much! It was just surreal. Showing my work to Lady Gaga in person was crazy enough, but to be welcomed to the Haus of Gaga within 48 hours after that was too much to take in! It was just unbelievable to think someone like me could become part of her creative team. I am so excited for things to come! I hope I do Gaga and the Little Monster community proud.

Do you have any words of advice for other members who want to pursue their dreams in fashion, design or art?
Get yourself out there! Share what you enjoy doing/creating! I'm saying this based on my experience of sharing my work and attracting an audience through a blog. Much like Polyvore, the more often you create, the more you become noticed, and the better you get at what you do.

Got any requests for the Polyvore team?
I'm sure this has been asked before, but it would be SO great to browse our own Polyvore items by color in the set-creator! And if Polyvore ever made it possible to make sets on iPad, It would be a dream come true!

Congratulations again, Helen! We're so excited for you!

Member Spotlight: minnie-me

Today's member spotlight is on minnie-me, a member of four years. She's a kindergarten teacher in Croatia and somehow still finds the time to create beautiful sets. Here are a few of her favorite sets.

High on rebellion!
Summer to Fall: maxi skirt!
Street style: Red + Fuchsia!

Tell us your name, age, profession and what you typically wear every day.
Hello! My name is Dijana Rajkovic, I'm a kindergarten teacher. I usually wear comfy clothes for the job, you know how it is working with kids, it always gets messy. Most of the time I'm in pants in various colors, jeans and tops, worn with oxfords, sandals and wedges. When I'm not working you can see me in dresses and skirts. I love accessorizing with big rings like knuckle rings and statement necklaces. I love colors, especially neons, but earthy colors suit me the best and I love to wear them.

Where do you live, and what trends are big there?
I live in Croatia, it's in Central and Southeast Europe, in the capital city Zagreb. The trend here is Converse sneakers, especially in white, colorful maxi skirts and maxi and midi dresses. I like all of the colors I see here, from neon to pastels.

What is your favorite brand/designer? What do like about that brand?
One of my favorite brands is 3.1 Phillip Lim because of his clean-cut silhouettes and lovely color palettes. I like Burberry Prorsum because the designer, Christopher Bailey, knows how to shape a perfect jacket and coat. He's re-invented trenches. Givenchy, oh my! The creative director, Riccardo Tisci, is amazing! He amazes me every time, combining Gothic and streetwear elements with the refinement of haute couture. Fantastic! Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, he is so original. I love his fashion shows. Every time, he does something new. His play with monochromatic and pastel colors make a great mix in tweed jackets.  I like Valentino because he knows how to dress a woman. His dresses are elegant, clean, simple, modern, feminine, sophisticated and glamorous.  Finally, Alexander McQueen. I love his raw and emotional passion for fashion. He brought drama and extravagance to the catwalk, and Sarah Burton continues his work brilliantly!

Among Croatian designers, I like Aleksandra Dojcinovic. She creates beautiful, feminine dresses that follow women's curves. I also like Zigman, who is always playful and quirky with his designs. I can't afford these designers, so I stick mostly with highstreet brands like Mango, H&M, Promod, Zara, Pull & Bear and Stradivarius.

Which celebrity has great style? What do you like about his or her style?
I love Olivia Palermo and Jessica Alba. Olivia is always chic and feminine. Jessica always looks gorgeous in casual and glamorous styles. I'm also inspired by Russian women like Elena Perminova, Ulyana Sergeenko, Miroslava Duma and Vika Gazinskaya. Their fashions are unique.

What are your personal aspirations/goals?
Someday, I would like to start a blog. I know, haha, another fashion blog. I want it to be about my look. I'm not good at taking pictures of myself though, so first, I will have to find someone to take photos of me. I could see myself one day in fashion magazines, making fashion collages like I do on Polyvore. That's my dream. Currently, I'm using my creativity making toys and games for kids.

How has Polyvore affected your life?
I remember when a friend recommended this site four years ago, I gave it a try, and I loved it! I used to wear more sporty, urban clothes like jeans, t-shirts and high-top sneakers. I was a hip-hop girl. Polyvore quickly changed my views on fashion. It changed my style to something more grown-up and mature. I started to wear heels, dresses, skirts, and totally fell in love with wedges. I'm petite girl (5'2") so wedges are great for defining my legs. I get inspired by street fashion. Polyvore gives me a daily dose of different fashion ideas/styles! It is also a wonderful relief from my stressful job. I 'm the still same hip-hop girl, but with different taste in clothes.

How would you describe your set style?
I don't have any specific set style. I change my layouts depending on the clothes, pictures and mood. I love big sets. I always add a few magazine articles and pictures, but make sure to leave room for the clothes. They're the most important part! The pictures in the set have to match the clothes to round out the story. I always use background colors like colorful stripes. They have to be similar in color to the clothes. I really try to make my sets look different and neat. It's still a challenge to distinguish my sets from other fantastic sets and styles.

How often do you sign on and what is the first thing you do when you sign on?
Haha! I'm always signed in, Polyvore is bookmarked at the top of my list. When I'm online, I have a few tabs open so I'm always jumping from one to another. The first thing I do when I go on to Polyvore is check my activity, then my friends' sets and comments, then I like their sets. After all of that, I create sets. I'd love a mobile version too!

Describe your personal sense of style.
My personal sense of style is casual and feminine. I love to mix up prints and colors. I usually take bits and pieces from different trends and play with them. I follow my instincts and my daily mood, and I never leave the house without a smile.
