Closing the Style Advice/Ask Section

UPDATE 2/1/2012: Style Advice has been closed. You can see the archives here. Thank you for contributing to our Ask section.

UPDATE 1/15/2012: We want you to know that we are listening and reading all of your comments. We care about you, the community, very much and that's why closing the Style Advice section was a hard decision for us, too. Ultimately, we decided this was the best for the whole Polyvore community. Please try to keep the Style Advice experience positive for everyone while the section is still open. Thanks again for your contribution and support.

Dear Polyvore Community,

We love that you are style gurus who generously share your tips on how to look great. You show us in your sets how to style awesome outfits, and you've showed us in the Style Advice, or Ask section.

Now it's time for us to ask you to concentrate all your amazing styling powers in your sets, comments and collections because sadly, we will be closing down the Style Advice/Ask section in January.

This has been an incredibly difficult decision. We reached it after realizing that we haven't been able to give that section of the site and its participants the attention or recognition they deserve. We've decided to spend our time really focusing on improving features that make a difference and that make Polyvore the best web and mobile experience it can be for you.

Any sets you have created for Style Advice answers will still appear on your profile, and any saved items will still appear in My Items. Your badges will also remain on your profile. However Style Advice/Ask will be phased out over the coming weeks.

  • After January 17, we will stop accepting new questions.
  • After January 31, the Style Advice/Ask section will no longer be available on the site.

We'd love to see your questions and expertise reach a larger audience on dedicated sites like Yahoo Answers or Quora. (If you know of another great style advice site, please let us and your fellow Polyvore members know!)

Thank you for all your generosity and creativity in providing great style advice in the Ask section over the last three years. You continue to inspire us and we’re looking forward to more of your styling tips through your sets, comments and collections!

Love,
The Polyvore Team

If you ASK me, the ASK section is the heart of polyvore. This disappointing news is only compounded by the lack of an explanation. Don't count on my webtraffic in the future...

Anonymous said...

It was my birthday that I found out polyvore was getting rid of ask. I spent my entire birthday laying in bed sobbing. No one should deserve that. This is my favorite part of the whole polyvore site. This is my reputation. I look to ASK for daily outfits, and other than that, what are we supposed to do on polyvore?! Other than stare at sets which are basically advertisements!

Anonymous said...

DEAR POLYVORE, SHUTTING DOWN THE ASK SECTION WILL ONLY MOVE PEOPLE AWAY FROM USING POLYVORE AS A HOLE, AND ULTIMATELY LOOSE YOU MONEY. DO YOU REALLY WANT THAT? GIVE US A TRULY HONEST REASON, AND WE MIGHT THINK, BUT YOU POLYVORE ATTRACTIVENESS TO MANY WILL BE LOST DUE OT THE PERSONAL TOUCHES. BAD MOVE POLYVORE, BAD MOVE.

Sabrina said...

Why? I really liked that part of Polyvore. It was very useful! Why is is it being shut down? Please explain? I, as well as many others, enjoyed helping each other out and giving and asking for advice. I don't like this at all.

NT said...

Please do not shut the ask section.

I love giving advice and got wonderful feedback in messages, votes and best answers. Even 1 person's kind appreciation is enough - and judging by other's comments they feel the same.

While I enjoy making and seeing other's sets - but often comments can be generic, whereas with Ask, you could help people with a similar style, and often I found great people to follow through it.

Please re-consider this decision - it is a community after all - and our individual views are important. Thanks

I'm gutted. I loved this section because I could see other people's views on style, so they could give me advide. But might I ask why? Everybody loved this section! I'm sad, but I'm just hoping someday you might launch a brand-new section on Polyvore. :)

Anonymous said...

This makes me really sad. Honestly, this was my favorite aspect of the site. When I didn't have enough time to make a set or had time to kill, I would always go into this section to help others. You had no true valid reason to close the section; it was helpful to everyone, and now you got rid of it. -.-

Anonymous said...

Really? The only reason I used this site is shutting down?! Way to go Polyvore. I no longer have a need for this site now.

Anonymous said...

I love the ask section...this is stupid sorry but now is boring..

Anonymous said...

I cannot believe you polyvore!!!!!! I really love the ask section and it was fantastic while we had it. If you ever can, you should try to reopen it. If I ever had a fashion disaster, I knew where to turn. Other people, maybe even professionals would help me out. It also helped me help others in their horrid situations. Now, I cannot do this. I can't believe this, but thank-you for breaking the news to us in a kind tone, because I sure didn't comment nicley. Sorry. I hope that if you can change your minds you will....

Anonymous said...

only reason I ever came on here was for the advice section.

Anonymous said...

its a shame, polyvore considers itself a social network and decides in an absolute way.
the only reason for the section being shut down is probably NOT the "can't pay enough attention, we're so sorry"-kinda thing but most likely a company-internal financial issue or an issue of organisation, NOT a lack of possibilies of caring about polyvore's users issues. so after all, this is most likely to be a lie. and that sucks.
and ps: i didnt even use the section and saw it just today. but still gotta say something about it.
put it up again polyvore or maybe you will have to shut down the side cause of a lack of users soon, dont you think?

the reason i joined is because i had to ask advice on clothes. i'm just gonna shit dawn my account. boo Polyvore!

We (the Polyvore members) don't need recognition. We don't go on style advice for the recognition. We go on there to get style advice from other members, and give style advice back. This just shows that you haven't REALLY been reading our comments. Because there is nothing in these comments to say that they want recognition. Hey, if you want to close down a part of the site because it doesn't give the members enough recognition, close down the sets.

Do you realize how stupid that would be?? to close down the sets??? well, you're doing the same thing here, closing down the style advice section. If you wouldn't close down the sets, don't close down the ask section.

Polyvore, you need to understand. And after 800+ comments, I thought you would have. Ask section doesn't need money to run it, if that's why your closing it down. It doesn't need recognition, if that's why your closing it down. It doesn't even need to be monitored by you, if that's why your closing it down. PLEASE BRING THE ASK SECTION BACK.

And the funny thing is, later, you might actually wake up and read these comments, and see how WRONG you were, but by then it will have been too late.

I'll be starting my own style advice website, purely for style advice, and I'll post it in the comments later, so all those who are deleting your accounts can come here, and give and receive style advice.

Thanks for stuffing everything up, I'm deleting my account.

this sucks. ill probably never go on polyvore again.

A couple of things: 1. This doesn't make any sense because there's no valid reason for this, and 2. I've sucked up a lot of major changes in the past year, but this is getting a little ridiculous. I'm so disappointed.

you shouldnt be closeing this section of polyvore in my opinion. its a very big part in a lot of the communitieas usage of polyvore. if you close this down permeantly i guarentee you that a lot of users will not be useing this site anymore. why? because a lot of people love answering style advice and some others just really need the fast feedback on their questions unlike how yahoo or ask.com is (it takes usually forever for people to answer back). again this is my opinion and i am going to say i will not be useing polyvore as much as i used to because of the closeing of the style advice section since it was a big part of why i came on polyvore everyday. im sorry but this is how its gonna be.

Really hoping all the rude, whiny people threatening to shut down their pages stay true to their words. ByeBye!

Anonymous said...

Im really sad about this. It is probably where I got my most helpful style advice, and I can see that in other people's questions, that they really appreciate the advice that everyone gives. Polyvore just won't be the same anymore without the ask section. I think it really gives people a chance to show another side of their fashion/artistic talent outside of sets. Many people use this when they have no other resources, or are at loss of what to wear or what kind of makeup to buy, and now we won't have that opportunity! I wish there was a way to change this, because based on what I've read from other comments. So many people are sad about it, they will miss asking and answering questions, and a lot of people are even going to stop using Polyvore! In my opinion, it is a really bad choice, and I wish i could do something about it.

Anonymous said...

Really I mean seriously i love this part of polyvore why why why please tell me the reason please i bet we all wanna know i love polyvore and wont stop using it but please reconsider this because some people like helping other people with style advice to others it helps bring up some peoples selfesteem ya know what why am i even writing this yall probebly don't even read this please read this <@bubbles638> <@chiqi2000>

Anonymous said...

Why would you shut down the Ask Section of Polyvore? Disappointing...

Anonymous said...

That is not a good enough answer to be closing it down. Most of us come to this site because we are able to give our opinion and receive tips from others. Most likely after the changes are made most viewers are not visiting this site anymore. Please reconsider.

Anonymous said...

Style advice was the main reason I came to this site. I don't think I'll be using this website at all now that it is being taken down.

Anonymous said...

The ask section was my favorite part of this website. I am very disappointed that it has been closed and will probably not return to the website.

Anonymous said...

This was one of the best parts of Polyvore and the most useful. Great.

Anonymous said...

Good one Polyvore. This was the best part of your site. Most stupid idea ever. You obvouisly do not care about your members because if you did you would be reading these comments and realising that we want and need the polyvore ask section. You would realise that you're losing alot of members. You do not care. Listen to all of us and not delete it. It was working very well and everyone was helping each other. No you're closing it don't for no reason what so ever. Pathetic really. What make you different to all the other fashion sites that allow you to make sets? Nothing! So you're not doing anything to help your site. You're losing members and not having anything different to other sites. Good one. Polyvore. Good one. I'm not going to stay as ask was the best thing about Polyvore now therees no point being a member. GOOD BYE!

This is probably one of the main reasons that I actually use the site and without it, I (and many others) will eventually stop using the site, well done.

Okay, you don't give a rational explanation, so this has got to be about money. Do you save a lot by closing this part of your site? Or are you getting paid for sending your users to other advice sites? In any case, I think you are hurting the Polyvore community spirit and getting rid of a very useful part of your website, so shame on you.

Anonymous said...

This is so sad! I love helping people out with their fashion dilemma's and I'm afraid to say I probably will barely use Polyvore anymore after this. Polyvore could at least bring back winning prizes!!

YOU JUST WANNA CHANGE EVERYTHING..

YOU DON'T EVEN CARE ABOUT OUR COMMENTS AS YOU SAID, CUZ IF YOU CARED YOU'VE ALREADY TOOK THE ASK SECTION BACK BUT... NO YOU DIDIDN'T!

Style Advice is honestly what makes Polyvore for me really special. I love to help people in that part of the website. I hope you put something really good that can fix this (close the ask section.

I FEEL THAT IT IS VERY STUPID OF YOU GUYS TO DO SO.... LET US MAKE THE DECISION OF IF THIS IS WHAT WE WANT... BECAUSE LOOKING AT ALL THESE COMMENTS DOESNT SEEM ANYONE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE ASK SECTION EVERYONE ENJOYS IT SO YOU GUYS NEED TO RESUME THE ASK SECTION

Anonymous said...

Huge mistake. Personally, I don't find any other parts of the website as useful as the "advice" section. I find your "products" and "sets" sections very limiting. (I don't even know what the purpose "collections" serve). However, I've always found what I needed from "advice". Not sure if the website will be much use to me after it has been removed.

Anonymous said...

"We care about you". Total bullshit. Going on 900 comments....all of them screaming "don't do this". Goes to show how much you care! YOU SUCK POLYVORE!!

Carol said...

Well there're tons of people complaining, so why would you closed this feature without proper explanations? No we won't take this easy, you gave no arguments explaining why this is closing... Please reconsider it, this is a very important part of this site!

Anonymous said...

i like how they don't actually give us a reason. there probably getting money from another company to shut i down. if you haven't noticed they never listen to us. they don't care about the users anymore they just want money and to be a bigger business not a place for fashion gurus to express style and help each other out well at least not anymore

Anonymous said...

Aw... I'm going to miss it but I guess ya'll know best.... to all the people that aren't going to use polyvore anylongerI'm sad to see you go because of such a small issue. To polyvore if you ever decide to bring it back I'll be waiting

The decision to close down this portion of the site will cause its unfortunate yet ultimate demise. The section was crucial to a vast majority of your users. I almost feel like this is some sort of cruel, elaborate April Fool's joke (let's hope).

This is a horrible choice.
This is entirely illogical.
This shows that you have no insight to what the Polyvore community wants and is here for.
This is a vague and rather insulting excuse that doesn't actually provide an answer to why this choice is being made.
This is the end of your website.

If I were you, I'd stop wasting money on a host and just shut the entire site down.

Thank you for ruining the Polyvore experince! This is a real disappointment. What minority where you listening too, we still make sets not for credit for the appreciation fashion, and what inspires us. I doesn't matter how many followers you have or the amount of likes you its about making contacts with people who are capable of appreciating fashion. I give and take advice from these people, because they come up with great advice that usual fits the trick, and that is applicable to life. Sets are more your express on style, but the Advice/Ask is people reaching out for good style advice, if we where to go to yahoo everyone can post their poor fashion advice, and not everyone will appreciate your advice unlike here they can, because they by creating a account they show they have some taste in Fashion or expression.Yahoo you are joking.

Still not seeing how this is a good decision?

This has no justifiable reason, everyone wants the Advice section, and this will make the site lose a lot of members...soooo this decision makes absolutely no sense.

Anonymous said...

This is the only reason I come on this site. Looks like I won't be visiting anymore. You're going to lose a lot of visitors to your site, and for what good reason? None. What a stupid decision. See ya never, Polyvore.

Wow... I truly believe that the style advice section is one of the most helpful parts of Polyvore. It gave us members an opportunity to interact with one another, develop our fashion senses, and aid one another through fashion mishaps. I loved scrolling through all the comments and suggestions people gave one another, and they truly helped me through some tough days of fashion dilemma. All the advice and ideas helped me be more courageous and try new things through my clothes. I'm so disappointed that this awesome section of the site will be closing down but hopefully, all these budding fashion spirits will live on :)

Anonymous said...

The Ask section was the whole reason I got involved in Polyvore. I was very sick when a friend suggested I answer Polyvore questions to keep me entertained while in hospital. I'm sad to say that a year later with no Ask section I struggle to see the point of the site. However I'm sure there will be another site with better features and an Ask section that will scoop up the Polyvore users in no time.

If you think it's not getting enough recognition, come up with ideas to promote it. All members can throw in their two cents worth! Start a discussion on the blog, don't shut this amazing section down.
Shame on you for giving up on yourselves.

I literally just showed up here for some very much needed style advice for a wedding I am attending. I depended on this feature and the generosity of the Polyvore community to help me, since I'm quite fashion-challenged. I'd been here for advice on another occasion and I was stunned how numerous and helpful the responses were.

And I see I've just missed the cut-off for the advice I need. Thanks for doing that and not even offering up a suggestion as to where this community in need could go. Filling a need, creating a popular feature, and then taking it away without warning --that's an excellent way to lose the trust of your user base.

How am I supposed to learn to create great sets if I can't get advice on styling in the first place?

Anybody reading this comment-- know where we could go now? PLEASE POST IT HERE.

You've lost a user in me--unless you bring this section back.

While I am out of luck today, someone will be on your heels to fill the niche of social style advice that you've left and then you can say goodbye to so many more users. I'm sure you've thought of this risk, and figured it's worth it. Good luck.

I feel that this is a very poor decision that polyvore have made. Style advice was the heart of the site and loved/used by so many people.

It would help if there was a proper, real, legit explanation as to why they have closed the favoured part of the site down- it's the least they can do.

Wow! I've told people to check out Polyvore just because of the Ask section. I mean, that is what makes Polyvore and unique and relevant site. I don't think you will stand out from the crowd without it.

Anonymous said...

This was the only reason that I and my friends came to Polyvore. Sorry to say, but you will lose us and it looks like many many others. The decision you've made has taken Polyvore from much loved to one more piece of marginalized crap.

Anonymous said...

You have absolutely no valid reason for shutting this section down. The only reason you gave was not giving this section "proper attention." But, no one is complaining about that - we just want the ask feature to stay available. One of the main reasons Polyvore is so successful is because users feel connected to each other - a sense of community - and the ask section is one of the biggest reasons for that. Polyvore is one of my favorite sites. I visit it practically every day for this feature, and will most certainly stop using your website now, as I'm sure will many many others.

Anonymous said...

There is no other feature like this on the internet. Offering Yahoo Answers as an alternative is complete joke. The ask section on Polyvore is so popular, because there are no other sites where you can comfortably ask questions, post examples, and expect immediate feedback and examples from other credible users. This being shut down makes me absolutely sick. I will no longer be using your site.

Cassie Landry said...

This comment will probably get pushed aside, much like the rest! This is wrong! Even though ya'll can't pay attention to it doesn't mean we don't use it! This is our way to connect to others and have input from others! This is ridiculous! You are going to be losing so many users and I love this part of the site! I don't understand why you are shutting this piece down and I would like further explanation. This gave us a chance to talk to others and SHARE our sets and ideas. How else are other people supposed to see them? Yahoo answers is no help for style either. This was so much better. Please reconsider or I won't be on as often either.

This is the worst decision you guys could ever make........ Everyone loves the style section! so why shut it down????? I now have no reason to log on to Polyvore and I bet a ton of more users feel the same way!!! You guys are making a very silly decision by having it shut down! No other site that I know has a feature like this and know I am sad and disappointed that I can never ask or answer a question!

Anonymous said...

I can't really say much that hasn't already be said. I'm disappointed that Polyvore has made the decision to shut down this part of the site, but quite frankly it doesn't seem like anything any of us could say would persuade you to change your mind.

Anonymous said...

Honestly Polyvore... I've been really trying to figure out how to put my opinion here in the nicest way possible... But I just can't. Closing down this section is a really stupid decision to make. It's really stupid.

THE ASK SECTION WAS AWESOME. When I needed help or I was in a style bind, so many people gave me awesome style ideas and advice. And now, I can't even get that anymore. Isn't Polyvore for US and not YOU GUYS?

And for you to give us some bull about how you "had to close down the section" or you were "losing money" or there was "no recognition", I could care less about the lies you fed us! Closing down this section will surely contribute to losing members. I thought that you guys would be able to bring the section back because there are so many people that are disappointed and displeased.

I'm sure you guys can care less about what I write or what anyone else has written thus far, but at least I can say that I voiced my opinion.

Hi Please bring the questions part back!
I love it, and it has helped me in so many fashion dilemmas (as well as social).
I love helping with their little fashion problems, and I would always look forward to seeing other womens advice in answering questions. The question and answer page is what makes this community so strong.
The only thing fixable about the questions are maybe allowing little comments on each suggestion, as well as allowing more items to be suggested.
Please bring the question and answer section back, it is such an important part in upholding this strong community, as well as why I have continued to come back time, and time again to this sight.
Lovingly

As someone who worked in Quality Assurance for gaming companies, you obviously do NOT take your users wants and concerns into account. This is a surefire way to lose a lot of web traffic. Ask helps promote polyvore and helps promote products, it is why a lot of people come on here. Many people are sad about this and you guys simply don't care, its very upsetting. I've been using this site for about 5 years now, I'm very disappointed.

Anonymous said...

That's really disappointing. I really enjoyed giving and receiving fashion and beauty advice. I felt it helped everyone and was one of the most entertaining and best parts of the website.

Anonymous said...

Is there another website that focuses on an ask style section?? If not then somebody should make one because I would visit that everyday. I'll probably stop visiting polyvore now…

Anonymous said...

Wow, I am very disappointed. The only reason I ever came to Polyvore was to ask questions or research new styles through the the Style Advice section. This section has gotten me through my toughest style dilemmas and I am very sad and angry that it is closing. Well, I won't be using this site anymore.

Anonymous said...

You say that you just ultimately decided it was the best thing to do. Why? I think we at least deserve a really good reason.

Anonymous said...

This is sad, that section was the only reason I ever used/signed up for the site and there really is no other reason to use polyvore but for that section. Disappointing guys.

Anonymous said...

Never coming on this site again...

Anonymous said...

Yeahh, this section is the ONLY reason I come to this site. Sayonara, Polyvore. No need to visit ever again. What a dumb decision.

Lindsey said...

I honestly think this is a very idiotic move. So many people (including myself) get such amazing style advice from this section! My favorite part of this site WAS the style advice section. I honestly see no good reason for shutting down this section, except for rude comments, which in my whole Polyvore experience, have never come across. I love Polyvore and everything about it and I would be very VERY sad to see it go. And yes I am giving you the bitter truth. A major point in this website was the style advice. Therefore taking it away takes away many of your members. I considered leaving but I support you guys so much that it was too hard to go. But most people out there wouldn't think twice about leaving because of this very section closing. In all, i hope you this website the best, but unless you put in another great feature, this website will have no other meaning than making sets.
Yours truly,
A concerned member

Sarah said...

I also agree with the other comments, it's a bad decision. I come for the style advice and will now have no reason to come on. Thanks for the good times while they lasted.

Anonymous said...

Honestly the style advice was such a unique part of the website and it was extremely helpful to me. Hopefully you guys reconsider, but in the time being I'm probably going to be done with Polyvore.

Anonymous said...

Dearest Polyvore,
Since we no longer have the 'ask section' I would like to have a better 'search' in sets. For example, if I type 'red cropped jacket' I would really expect to see only sets containing such a red jacket, not also red shorts, red cars...
Thank you so much for existing, anyway! :)

Anonymous said...

Why?why?why?:(

Anonymous said...

I'm soso disappointed about this! It is my favourite thing about Polyvore, and I will probably not be using the site anymore after this. I lost interest in creating sets, but kept my account so that I could access the style advice section. I guess it's gonna have to close now.

Anonymous said...

The justification for this rings false, to me. The Advice section has built-in recognition - people vote for answers, choose answers, and the results appear on users' profiles.

As the sure has become more successful, more commercial interest has become involved - contest sponsors, etc. I now get e-mails when items I've liked are on sale. There's clearly an increased presence from advertisers.

My instict here is that the Ask section is much harder to "monetize" by involving sponsors. It costs money to keep the section running but probably doesn't return as much as the rest of the site.

I could be wrong. But this makes the most "business sense," and makes more sense than "we felt bad." If Polyvore really felt as stated above, the response would be to revamp the section, not close it.

I use both sections. I make more sets than advice requests or answers, but that's just me. People clearly love this part of the site, and closing it without even doing them the service of a real justification is not right.

Anonymous said...

Aw! If anything, asking style questions was my main reason for constantly going on Polyvore. They helped me so much, and I really improved my style. I owe a lot to that, and it really sucks to see the feature go.

Please, if possible, bring the feature back some day. I've been waiting all week to ask a question, since my internet was down, and it's very disappointing to find this.

Anonymous said...

Well drat.... That's really a helpful feature of polyvore. Polyvore isn't about the ask section but it really helped inspire my style, my sets, and helped me discover my individuality and personal dress style. I will surely miss it.

Anonymous said...

This is really stupid..hate say it but it really is. Why close style advice? It's a major part of Polvyvore. This just sucks, Just so ya' know, you're going to most likely loose alot of members..just saying. Well, that's you guy's choice..

The advice section was the main reason I used Polyvore! I probably won't be using this site anymore because of this. I feel that quite a few people used the style advice section, some more than the sets and collections and contests. This is ridiculous. All you are doing is losing users by doing this. I've already read several comments saying that the person will no longer use your website.

Anonymous said...

Is there any reason for shutting it down? Cause you have given none.

Anonymous said...

Why would Polyvore feel the need to shut this down? I always go to you guys when I need style advice and now I have no one to go to.

Anonymous said...

Reading this part: "We'd love to see your questions and expertise reach a larger audience on dedicated sites like Yahoo Answers or Quora. (If you know of another great style advice site, please let us and your fellow Polyvore members know!)" to me it says: we don't care if you leave, go somewhere else because we're shutting it down...

Anonymous said...

I second the above users comment! If the search could be fine tuned to you could search sets for ideas that would be a nice way to fix this dilemma. It won't be the same for ask but it definitely will be better.

Also, polyvore, please promote this group: http://www.polyvore.com/replacement_for_ask_style_advice/group.show?id=155518

It so far has been a great option and the format the creator has made is really helpful and similar to ask.

Thanks!

Anonymous said...

I really loved polyvore for everything like the sets, collections, groups and most of all the ask section. This ask section is what pulled me into polyvore. It really helped everybody who asked questions on fashion and I think they still want help. I really don't think y'all should take it down but at least I know I am not the only one with this opinion. I think this isn't a good decision.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the simular sites like Polyvore. I know I will be going to those websites and I know they can help me like I thought Polyvore was supposed to do.

SO SAD.
Like, why?
Because as many of the comments show people come to polyvore FOR AND ONLY FOR the ASK section.
I, for one, enjoy making creations, but I enjoyed asking and answering questions on that section.

extremely disappointing.

If you guys 'care' about us then you guys should really listen and do something. I don't think anyone would come on to polyvore anymore just because you guys are shutting down the ask section. Honestly, read our comments and take action. All of these comments are giving you guys hints of what to do; and that is NOT SHUTTING DOWN THE ASK SECTION.

Anonymous said...

I personally think that we were happy with this part of polyvore the way it was, it didn't need much improvement. We were happy the way it was, we would have quite happily continued using it the way it was without the need of improvement. I understand that you have a lot to deal with, and any extra stuff that you have to sort out is a hassle, but it didn't need work. Oh well, I just hope that you bring it back when you realise that so many people loved it.

I think this is a wrong desicion - I love the sets on here, but I mostly come on here for the style advice. I came on here today to post something, to find this. I'm very dissapointed, and will most likely not come on really ever. I believe that there is no valid reason to shut the ask section. It was one of the kind, and incredibly helpful. I really am very, very dissapointed. I hope that the Polyvore Team will re-evaluate their desicion and choose to reopen their Style Adivce. Until that happens, I will not be using Polyvore any longer, except perhaps for searching for new items of clothing I could buy.

It inspired me. It let me help people in a way. I hope you guys know what annig mistake you are doing and hope you recosider :(

That's the whole reason I made one. I really needed some advice and now i dont know who to ask. D;

Why is this happening? I joined polyvore afew months ago and I'm rubbish at it to be honest but one section i could always rely on being there as a handy tool to help me decide what to wear with certain things, was the ask section! This is appauling and genuineley don't think i'll be revisiting. Your intentions are all wrong.

Anonymous said...

yeah screw this style advice was the only reason i came on here so im just going to delete my polyvore altogether.

Anonymous said...

are you kidding? NO dont do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i bet if a petition were called for you'd be overridden, polyvore. this is the best part of the site, i dont understand why you cant at least keep the already posted and answered questions up also this is rediculous

Anonymous said...

not very happy with this idea. this was a good way to get help from other ppl in the community. Its just like asking your friends to help you pick out an outfit when you've hit a road block. Not cool at all. Not cool.

Anonymous said...

I would have to agree with some of the others and say I will no longer be a user of polyvore now that this is gone.

Anonymous said...

I'm disappointed that you are closing this section of Polyvore because you think that it doesn't give users recognition, its not about that though, people go to the Ask section because they have questions about fashion, closing that means that you are limiting Polyvore to people who want to style or make sets, but there are users that just come to Polyvore to inquire such beauty or fashion questions, and as you can see many people are not happy about it. Polyvore will use many users due to this conclusion you have come to. Making Polyvore a better place needs to start by making what we already have better, not tearing it down and starting from scratch, you need to understand that making this decision you will only aggravate many users on Polyvore, you have made many changes to Polyvore and many of them haven't made Polyvore better, i suggest that you start asking users what changes they want to make before you change anything, the Style Advice/Ask section was a useful part of Polyvore, and the credit didn't matter for any of us. So I hope you read this and other comments and realize what a mistake you have made.

Anonymous said...

This makes meee sooooo angry why in the world do you want to do this!?! I love having the help when I need it, and I love giving others help when they need it, since I stink at making sets! I guess once this closes I am done with Polyvore and will move onto the next interesting site because this one isn't worth my time!

Anonymous said...

i loved how people gave me suggestions whenever i needed fashion advice. please do not close that was the best part everyone helping each other out whenever someone needed help with clothes, shoes, accessories and other things

Anonymous said...

Won't be coming here no more >:(

Anonymous said...

Keep it on!! That was the only reason i used it .

Angela said...

I feel as if I've lost a friend!! Style Advice/Ask is my utter most favourite feature of Polyvore! This section is my biggest hope in establishing myself as an aspiring stylist, the tools were so so helpful...
I really have to say I don't see any reason for advice/ask to be shut down, because I'd still use it even if the site never make changes to it, even if it's out of date and looks prehistoric - it's THAT good!

Elle said...

Personally, I don't see why everybody's making such a fuss. I mean, yeah, the Ask section was useful, but if we're really deperate for advice we could always just PM people. It's not that difficult, really.

Anonymous said...

It's REALLY unfortunate that you're doing this. I mean, I don't understand why you would. I'm not going to go SCREAMING at you like a lot of other people, but I have a feeling you are going to lose hundreds of users. I know I love the advice section, especially with my other account. You keep making changes, that are rather unnecessary, but this one might actually cost you, like A LOT. Goodbye Polyvore.

Anonymous said...

Wow, this is soo dumb. Hope you guys will realize this & decide not to end it.

Anonymous said...

Gutted, this was my favourite part of polyvore :(

Ii was what I used most on Polyvore, can't see me using it much now.

Anonymous said...

I loved the ask section about polyvore, it was the main reason I joined polyvore. If felt nice knowing that when you couldn't turn to your friends for advice you could always turn to the polyvore community. The ask allowed us to come together as a community and help each other with our styling problems. After this all polyvore will be is just a popularity contest. I am very dissapointed!

Anonymous said...

Will we still be able to look at our saved questions and questions we've asked?

Anonymous said...

Please dont take it down :(

WHY? i read it and it didnt tell me any good reason why to not let u use it! I came on today to ask a question cause i have no idea what to wear with pants i have and u do this to me? i guess i will be deleting my polyvore account and finding a BETTER website! cause i really liked that part of it and now its gone!

Anonymous said...

is this necesary??? whyyyy? crying

Anonymous said...

This was really the only part of polyvore that I used. I'm sad to see it go and will not be using this site anymore. I'll just use pinterest for style help.

Anonymous said...

The Ask section was the only reason that I started using Polyvore in the first place. I loved helping others out and I especially enjoyed others helping me with items that I found hard to style myself.
To me it was a great source of inspiration and knowing that this section will close is very disapointing and will probably lead to me not visiting Polyvore at all in the future.
The sets and all are great but they never helped me with putting an outfit together. And that's why they don't interest me as much..

ShayLovesRayRay said...

Wow. This was absolutely my favorite part of polyvore. No disrespect intended, but this website will most likely lose ALOT of users because of this. I suggest they keep it or im leaving for good.

Anonymous said...

This section was really the only part I ever used. I won't be using polyvore any more after it closes. I strongly believe that you will lose a lot of people because of this. I am so incredibly stunned at how dumb the decision is. I wish you the best of luck, however.

Anonymous said...

okay first some people dont get ANY regoniztion! they make sets and no one sees them and a lot of other things! so what are you going to do? shut down making sets and then the whole website? if u read our comments you would change the decision! or u will lose a lot of memebers!

Anonymous said...

deuces then polyvore

Anonymous said...

This is a big let down. I do not think I will revisit Polyvore, and would not recommend it to any of my friends.

Anonymous said...

Like many of the commenters I am heartbroken. I do not understand the reasoning of closing down the section. For me and many others it was one of my favorite parts. I think one of the most important things in the community of fashion is communication. Sharing ideas and getting feedback. Although the sets are great the ask section allows others to explore new styles because the people who answers provide so many different looks. Although as you say you have not maintained this particular section as much as the rest of the site I think people still enjoyed it and am still confused as to where you got the idea it was unnecessary. I have never heard that feedback and think it is a terrible mistake. I am sorry to say but I think you will be losing a lot of members from this change.

Caitlyn said...

This is really sad because this is the main reason I come on polyvore, to help other people and to get style advice. Yahoo answers isn't the same, people actually know what they are talking about here. I don't think I'll be logging on as often.

Anonymous said...

Wow I can't believe this you will be losing a lot of us because this was the best part of polyvore
Goodbye..... FOREVER!!!!! :(

Anonymous said...

I would like to point out that sets allow for much LESS recognition than the Ask section. This is because at least when people ask a question they read every answer they get, so there is some. In Sets, unless you are already huge on Polyvore, it is very difficult to get anybody to view your sets or comment, etc. I have been a Polyvore member for 4 years, and I have 2 comments total on all of my sets. In the Ask section though, even though I only answered questions occasionally, I got recognition EVERY TIME. So I'm unsure of the reasoning here...I do like Polyvore, but I just make drafts for myself to see at this point and don't even bother publishing sets because it is pointless, nobody cares about anybody's sets except their own. ASK Section was actually the only part of polyore where the little guys DID get recognition!

Anonymous said...

Ok the hole reason I joined this site is because of the ask column! It's perfect for when you don't know how to wear something! You just lost me a user! This is the most stupidest thing ever! Polyvor would not be the same without the column! For people like me who only have like 5 followers the ask column was a place to get noticed bye other users! But now polyvore will only be used bye the people with lots of followers! At school I have the best style, but people thing I'm Carzy to wear what I wear! So on polyvore it was a place where my style was appreciated and were I could wander a question about style and not worry about what people think! I am never using this site agen! When people voted for my advice I felt so proud and appreciated but now I won't get that feeling with I see that red box with numbers beside my name. I will never use this site agen! :(

Anonymous said...

Have you lost your mind! Your incredible stupid! We don't care that we don't get reconision we just like helping each other out! Your going to loss all of your users bye doing this!

it's unfortunate that you're shutting down this part of the site. this section was by far my favourite part of polyvore. i don't think i'll be using the website as much now that you're getting rid of this feature. i'm extremely disappointed with this decision.

Anonymous said...

'Ultimately, we decided this was the best for the whole Polyvore community' Oh please. This was best for the 'high up' people behind the website and you know it. If you cared about the community, you wouldn't be closing down one of the most popular sections! It's pretty insulting that you think this is what's best for us. Just a tip, Polyore, your users know what's best for your users! I'm not the best at sets, so Polyvore is now useless to me.
Way to go, you've just lost yet another user!

Eve said...

Omg! This was a good part of the site! I don't want it to close! Why would you do this anyway, It gives helpful information to users that need it! Never mind no recognition, it gives advice. Thanks Polyvore for yet again being unhelpful.

Anonymous said...

signed on to polyvore literally about 3 minutes ago. no activity on my sets. (now is usually when id go to the ask section..) decide that maybe i should just adapt to the new, downgraded, version of polyvore and make a set for a contest. Those are always fun right? Wrong. Theres one contest up, and I think its been up for like a month now.

I'm done. This is boring as all get out now.

as you can see polyvore, by reading all of these comments people are telling you NOT TO SHUT THE ASK SECTION DOWN! if you guys were actually "reading" our comments then you guys would've cancelled shutting it down by now! people probably aren't going to come onto this site after it's been shut down.

Anonymous said...

I just recently found out about the ask section in December and loved it ever since because it gave me ideas and inspiration on what to wear. Good job Polyvore, you just lost hundreds of thousands of users.

Anonymous said...

This was my favorite part of Polyvore:( I can't use other websites like Yahoo because a lot of people comment rude things there. I loved the ASK section because it helped me if I couldn't ask any one else. I probably will stop using Polyvore now.

Alexandra said...

I tried for a couple of years to like polyvore but found it too complicated and looking at other people's sets demotivating (too much stuff, too much flash!).

About 3 months ago I discovered the ASK section and I started creating sets from the "create set with these items" button whenever I got good advice, which was often! So there's the "credit" you're talking about.

Please tell us that closing the ASK section is the first step towards introducing a bigger, better ASK section on the site!

Anonymous said...

I doubt you're reading this cause if you were you'd realize that taking away the ask section is a big mistake. I thought you guys were smart, but I was wrong. You're going to lose a lot of users because of this. Hope you regret it. Bye Polyvore!

Anonymous said...

I'm really upset about it closing! I don't undersatnd why. I will certainly won't be on as much

Anonymous said...

Biggggg big mistake, Polyvore. I will no longer use this site because I no longer have reason to.

Anonymous said...

I probably won't be using Polyvore anymore once this has gone, very sad..

Anonymous said...

In other words you are using us for marketing. You guys are sell outs. Let me explain, why else would you close down the asking section, which as a community bonds us together by helping other fellow members, and "focus" on our sets and collections? Polyvore couldn't be bothered to spend the time and money to keep this part of the site open because it is much to their concern to use peoples talents to be recognized by the public on the world wide web. Some people might be okay with this decision, and some people are not. In my personal opinion the asking section is where the inspiration comes from, It's like seeing people walking down the street, observing and admiring what people can create with articles of clothing. The world is a fashion show and we feed off of each other. And, in a sense, you are taking that away. Yes i am pissed as you probably have guessed and i am pissed because the asking section is pretty much why i joined. Because of the interactions i had with people who inspired me. Now, polyvore will be a boring site where you make collages.
