Closing the Style Advice/Ask Section

UPDATE 2/1/2012: Style Advice has been closed. You can see the archives here. Thank you for contributing to our Ask section.

UPDATE 1/15/2012: We want you to know that we are listening and reading all of your comments. We care about you, the community, very much and that's why closing the Style Advice section was a hard decision for us, too. Ultimately, we decided this was the best for the whole Polyvore community. Please try to keep the Style Advice experience positive for everyone while the section is still open. Thanks again for your contribution and support.

Dear Polyvore Community,

We love that you are style gurus who generously share your tips on how to look great. You show us in your sets how to style awesome outfits, and you've showed us in the Style Advice, or Ask section.

Now it's time for us to ask you to concentrate all your amazing styling powers in your sets, comments and collections because sadly, we will be closing down the Style Advice/Ask section in January.

This has been an incredibly difficult decision. We reached it after realizing that we haven't been able to give that section of the site and its participants the attention or recognition they deserve. We've decided to spend our time really focusing on improving features that make a difference and that make Polyvore the best web and mobile experience it can be for you.

Any sets you have created for Style Advice answers will still appear on your profile, and any saved items will still appear in My Items. Your badges will also remain on your profile. However Style Advice/Ask will be phased out over the coming weeks.

  • After January 17, we will stop accepting new questions.
  • After January 31, the Style Advice/Ask section will no longer be available on the site.

We'd love to see your questions and expertise reach a larger audience on dedicated sites like Yahoo Answers or Quora. (If you know of another great style advice site, please let us and your fellow Polyvore members know!)

Thank you for all your generosity and creativity in providing great style advice in the Ask section over the last three years. You continue to inspire us and we’re looking forward to more of your styling tips through your sets, comments and collections!

Love,
The Polyvore Team

Thank you Polyvore for giving us the biggest credit by shutting us down! You never do any useful changes, but this has just crossed the limit. You have no valid reason to close the section. You have absolutely no right. We can't enter contests with prizes and now this? P

I LOVE this part of Polyvore. I'm sad to say that I will most likely stop visiting Polyvore after this section closes.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the the rest of the comments, his has been a big part of my use of ployvore and i love to see peoples opinions and give mine, but now i can't do that!!! I am most likely be going on this site no more.

Anonymous said...

I'm really sad you're doing this because it's such a useful part of the site and definitely the part of Polyvore I use most often.

Niki Adams said...

I started Polyvore for the sets and that is why I will keep using Polyvore :)

Athena_Trendsetter said...

Um, seriously, why would you do that? For me, it was the best part of Polyvore. I love helping people out, it's like my thing. Giving style advice, I do that ALL the time, it's such a shame that I won't be able to do it here on Polyvore anymore. I really don't get where this is coming from. I'm quite disappointed to be honest.

Anonymous said...

Very sad! Ask session was one of the best. I do not know what led them to believe that disable this Polyvore session, would be a good thing. I hope you all reconsider.

So true.

I visit polyvore multiple times everyday and the only reason I do is because of the ask section. I probably wont be visiting at all anymore.

Anonymous said...

I love this part of polyvore! And now you're shutting it down?!!? I thought polyvore is all about fashion and this section helps me with a TON of stuff! After this closes I don't think I would be visiting polyvore anymore.

Anonymous said...

This is really disappointing...I think it was the most useful part of the site. Now I think we're all wondering what your plausible explanation for this sudden severing of a useful section???

Anonymous said...

You are making a mistake in doing this. This part of the site has been a huge help to me and countless others. Really dumb decision.

Robsfriend73 said...

My New Year's Style resolution was to become more stylish this year with the gracious help of my fellow Polyvorians.
So I just rediscovered the Ask section and now you're shutting it down?! That's a real shame...

Anonymous said...

Really polyvore? Why on earth would you do this! It's the main reason most people visit anyway!
This pisses me off

Monika said...

Well there goes my favorite part of polyvore....

CarolinArcieri said...

I also liked the Ask section very much but I will still using Polyvore and also believe (strongly) that there's no reason to express discomfort in such a rude way and put it anonymous?!!!?? I LOVE POLYVORE AND ALWAYS WILL NO MATTER THE CHANGES!!!! (Althoug I hope u guy re-open the section in a further future and solve whatever the porblems u r having with it now.

Anonymous said...

You do realise you're going to lose ALOT of people by doing this, which is why I don't understand why you're planning it.. The ask/advice section is probably the best and most interesting part of this site in my opinion (I'm sure in alot of other people's too by looking at the other comments, and also by the amount of people that use the advice section) everything else will just get boring after a while, so yep.. pretty dissapointed :( doubt I'll be using this site anymore once you've closed this section, so hope you change your mind or at least reconsider it, because all you're getting out of this is less people by the looks of it:/

Anonymous said...

i only joined polyvore for the style advice and ive been using it every day but since you are shutting down this section, i will no longer be using polyvore

Anonymous said...

I totally agree with the comments above, the Style Advice is undoubtedly my (and I suspect many other user's) favorite aspect of Polyvore. No other site offers the ability to give and receive fashion advice in such an accessible, easy-to-use format and one which creates and solidifies a friendly, community atmosphere.

I would urge anyone who DOES NOT want to see this section of the site closed to comment and let the site owners see how you feel.

Deidra said...

I always turn to Polyvore when I need fashion or beauty advice since I get the kind of advice on here I can never get on Yahoo Answers. On Yahoo Answers, the Answers are solely for the benefit of themselves and they answer nonsense just for the points. On here, you get real advice that will help you in the long run.
I must say, Polyvore, as a member on here for three years, you make very stupid and non-beneficial decisions. You have no rhyme or reason to close that section and you're losing a lot by doing so. You shouldn't make changes unless there's something really bothersome about the website. What's your next ridiculous move going to be?

Anonymous said...

I can't believe this ! No point in visiting this site anymore!

Anonymous said...

this is sooooo mean

leboutonderose said...

This is not the right decision. I can understand that you might want to improve the other features, but why don't keep the Ask section the way it is? It is such a great feature and really helpful. Polyvore would not be the same without it.

Anonymous said...

What!? This section was the most useful part of polyvore! It's also what keeps users coming back. Without being able to ask others for style advice, or their opinions the whole site becomes virtually useless.

Anonymous said...

Yeah I have no reason to go on Polyvore anymore then... see ya

Anonymous said...

This is very upsetting, i cannot believe you are doing this Polyvore will never be the same.

Anonymous said...

okay this is just so stupid. i started using polyvore just because of the advice and i seriously have no idea where else i can get such good advice from. i like the sets and everything but shutting the advice section down is just so dumb. thank you very much..

Anonymous said...

I LOVED that section. Whenever I bought something new & had no idea what to pair it with I'd clip it to polyvore & ask everyone for their advice. Please reconsider this..

Anonymous said...

This is Ridiculous people! Polyvore is and will always be about FASHION SETS! If you only came to Polyvore for the style advice then you are not utilizing the site to it's potential nor your membership with the community. I liked that but I wont be sad to see it go. It was an add on, an extra benefit they gave us as an already set up community of set makers. In no way shape or form was this Ask section POLYVORE! It was just something they thought would be cool for the members to have and if it's taking away from the focus on what Polyvore was originally founded on I say goodbye! I don't know why any of you are so cold and rude. If you leave then see ya later. Sorry but I get tired of seeing ungrateful posts all of the time. A Simple I'm bummed would have sufficed!

The Style advice section was my primary use with Polyvore. I won't be visiting anymore.

Anonymous said...

I mainly use Polyvore for its Style Advice section. No other website offers the same Style Advice like Polyvore does, and obviously many other people agree. I really don't feel as if you have given a valid enough reason to get rid of your Style Advice section and I honestly think it's one of the worst moves you're going to make.

I've been a member for two years and I can safely say you will be losing me as a member due to this decision. Good luck Polyvore, with ridiculous decisions like this you're going to need it.

Anonymous said...

Wow...very disappointed in you, Polyvore. I'm a dollmaker myself, but I've enjoyed the Ask section greatly. I've received fast advice that has definitely helped me, and hopefully I've helped other users as well. I'll (reluctantly) still use the site, because I love to make dolls (which are under appreciated) and talk with friends, but I'm so upset that the ask section will be gone. It will also be very difficult for users with less followers to get answers to questions due to not being able to be seen. I hope you will maybe reconsider your choice.

Anonymous said...

I'm quite dissapointed, no infact very. I absolutly love this part of polyvore, i felt like i could connect with the community more and finally share my advice. Please take back your decision and leave it up! Its birlliant and everyone agrees.

Anonymous said...

This makes me so upset. This is like my favorite part of the site. Everybody check out "Go try it on". It's better than polyvore in that area anyway.

Karmen Hal said...

Woooow . Style advice is probably the only reason I visit Polyvore . After its shut down i probably wont visit the site anymore . This is probably the worse decision you guys at Polyvore could make .
You said

" we haven't been able to give that section of the site and its participants the attention or recognition they deserve"

Which I believe is totally bogus . WE give it all the attention that it needs . Smh

Anonymous said...

I may as well just stop using this site. What is everybody supposed to do? You're definitely going to get loads of negative feedback. PLEASE STOP! Every fashionista needs style help, that's what part of the site is for. It's fun giving your opinion! You are making a stupid choice!

JustMe said...

I do agree with alot of the others, the only reason I come to this site is for style advice so I am disappointed thats its going and I doubt that I will be returning after

I can't believe your shutting this part of Polyvore down. Trust me, I won't be going on Polyvore anymore after it's been closed. The Style Advice section was my FAVORITE section. If I need help with some clothes, there were so many generous people to help me with some outfits ideas. Now, I have nothing... I really don't understand why you're closing the most important part of Polyvore down. I sound like I'm about to cry, LMFAO, but I'm not. I'm just...disappointed. It surprised me when I read the update. I told myself "You're kidding me...right?" And by the looks of it, I'm not the only one who disagrees with your decision.
Just bring the Style Advice back.
For everyone. Seriously.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the last commenter. I didn't really make sets but I loved answering others questions. Taking this out of the site leaves MUCH less to do. I don't think I'll use the site anymore after this.

Anonymous said...

Hey could you at least explain why doing that, ok? This makes no sense at all

Anonymous said...

As much as I love you Polyvore, Most people come here for the Style Advice. Its the best feature of PV. By doing this you have probably elimninated a third or so of users. Congrats.

Anonymous said...

swerving u then

Anonymous said...

o ok bye polyvore.

Anonymous said...

Polyvore,

i seriously hope this is a hack. looking through the comments, seems that you will be losing a lot of users.

and upon looking at your silly "'reason'' for shutting the advice section down is you can't update it?!?!? YOU DONT NEED TO UPDATE IT, IT ITS FINE THE WAY IT IS. YOUR LOVELY USERS LIKE ME KEEP IT ALIVE AND UPDATED WITH FASHION ADVICE!

if you had more complaints about shutting it down that keeping it up then it would be good to consider shutting it down. but is ANYONE complaining about the ask section? ONLY IF ITS BEING SHUT DOWN!

Anonymous said...

This is basically the only part of Polyvore that I use and it has been a huge help to me. I'm really disappointed that you are closing this down. Does anyone know of any websites where I will be able to ask for style advice now that this feature will no longer be available here?

Candice N said...

I am incredibly sad this part of Polyvore is shutting down the Ask section. I once shut down my account on Polyvore, but I missed the Ask section so much I decided to make a new account and become active on the Ask board. I have fallen in love all over again with it and now I feel heartbroken that it is being shut down. I don't think it needs any adjustments or improvements... keep it the way it is and keep it on here!! I think people have learned so much from the Ask section and I have learned a lot about my personal style through asking and answering questions. Once this leaves I really don't think I will continue using Polyvore. I understand that your main focus is the sets... but.... there are a lot of people that you are leaving out that use your fabulous site solely for the Ask section. If there is any way you could reconsider this decision, I would beg you to do so. It sounds like I am not the only one who thinks this!!

Anonymous said...

I don't really like your choice! It is fine the way it is,so why fix something that isn't broken!?

LEAVE THE STYLE ADVICE THERE!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I agree; this was one of my favorite parts of the site! Very disappointed :(

Anonymous said...

For god's sake LOOK at all the comments!!! nobody is complaining about the ask section unless you take it down. i for one am not using this site anymore.

Anonymous said...

The primary reason I came to Polyvore was for the Style Advice section. I loved using it and unfortunately, since it is being closed, I will have little reason to be visiting this site in the future.

Anonymous said...

not using polyvore anymore...

Anonymous said...

I can't believe you are closing the advice section of polyvore. It is one of the best parts and mostly what I use like most other people as I only have time to have a quick look on sometimes. I don't think this is the best thing you could have closed down, especially as everyone seems to be unhappy about the change. I think you will loose lots of people after this section is closed down. I am very sad, like A LOT of people, to see this section close and will most likely not visit any where near as much as I used too!

Anonymous said...

This makes me sad. :(Ii was so happy when i discovered this option on polyvore. Who will give me style advice then?

Anonymous said...

Oh wow...

Anonymous said...

I think people who answer questions get recognition. They get appreciation and followers because they answer questions so greatly. I used polyvore because I thought it wasn't just sets, sets, sets! I also enjoyed helping people answer questions. Now all we'll be able to do is make sets and collections? That's RIDICULOUS. I'm over these changes and I'm over this site. Won't be coming back. This was a terrible decision.

Anonymous said...

What?!?! That's ridiculous! I love the style advice section! Why on earth would you close it down? You don't need to focus on "improving" it... just leave it the way it is and let us use it!

Geez, Polyvore!

Creative Cycle said...

Please Leave the Ask Section!!!! I've told so many friends about Polyvore, and everyone LOVES it!!! The Ask section has helped them alot with finding their own style, and it brought all of us users closer~~ More like an actual family who enjoys helping each other out. :'(( Please do not shut it down. Make it so we have to create a minimum set of 3 to ask a question or something, but please keep the Ask section!!

Anonymous said...

i think style advice is such a helpful way to not only improve your personal style but also improve your styling in your sets. it adds a dimension to polyvore that all other sites lack. im extremely disappointed in this decision

Anonymous said...

This is such a disappointment! The style advice was the best part. The sets are cool but when you have a direct question on how to wear a specific piece it always gets answered. This is a big help to people like me who love fashion but are not very good at putting outfits together yet. I hope you will rethink closing this section of the site!!

Anonymous said...

I can't believe you are doing this. Without the Ask section, Polyvore is over. You are, for lack of better words, 'jumping the shark'.

Anonymous said...

The polyvore team should be ashamed of ur self theonly reason i use polyvore is for the advuce i will no longer be on or using this website and i will tell all my friends who are also on this and tell them to stop going on it
Ur website is going to be losing a lotif viewers
sincerly
hate the change.

The only reason I ever visited Polyvore was for the Style Advice section. I'm sorry to say I will no longer visit Polyvore.

Marquetta Freeman said...

That's all I ever used Polyvore for. I will be deleting my account after this month. I honestly don't think ANYone is happy about this.

Anonymous said...

Please reconsider!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it is going. It hasn't caused any trouble in the users side of things and most people love it and are complaining almost 10 times more about it because it is shutting down and wouldn't be complaining if you weren't shutting it down! And can you just explain for all of us here what that reason means. We are what keeps the section alive, we don't need recognition as we do it for the fun and connection of using it, not for the "recognition". And what kind of "redognition" is closing us down!

Anonymous said...

What a poor business decision to shut down the area of the site that is used the most! You might have polled your users first. Not sure recognition is what those offering advice were seeking. You've just lost another user...

Anonymous said...

Ask section is also my favorite part of polyvore! Pls dont shut it down,..you will make so many people sad and most certan loos lots of members..plssssssss

This is ridiculous. Style advice is a HUGE part of why im better able to put ensembles together. Like r u kidding me? This has been such a useful tool for im sure almost all polyers including myself. Very disappointed. Horrible business move.

Anonymous said...

ridiculous. this is the most useful part of the site, and the only reason many of us come here. big mistake. very short-sighted and misguided.

Littepeachy said...

So sad :(

Anonymous said...

We're not getting recognition? Nobody's asking for recognition! It's not a contest! The Ask section is to ask question and get them answered for people's personal fashion ideas and problems. There are SO MANY questions and answered, how would you go about giving people recognition anyways? You show the most voted for gurus on the sides, isn't that enough? Please reconsider, eventhough Polyvore isn't just for style advice, it's a big part of it and a lot of people will stop going on the site if they can't get they're style questions answered. Yes, there are others sites, but this many people came to Polyvore for fashion advice for a reason- THEY GET THE BEST RESULTS HERE!! PLEASE, PLEASE don't shut down the ask section, it won't solve a problem that doesn't even exist!

Anonymous said...

The ask section is the only reason I'm remotely interested in Polyvore. Bad business decision!

Anonymous said...

This is my favorite part of polyvore and the part that I'm most active on. This isn't fair to those of us that use it a lot to shut it down. It is really helpful and a lot of fun. This is honestly the best part of the site and the part of this site that makes it unique. Please don't shut it down. I for one probably won't use polyvore as much when this gets shut down.

bethany-helen said...

Well that's the only reason I used the site, stop sending my those damn emails after it closes what a stupid idea! Sorry to be so brutal but it's just the truth.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I won't be using polyvore anymore after you remove the Ask section.

Anonymous said...

That's not fair though! I thought that Polyvore was about a community getting together to give others their idea of fashion. But you've decided to shut down the part where we actually come it and interact with each other. I do agree with most of the comments. And I won't be visiting much anymore..

Anonymous said...

good job, here's to losing everyone on the site.

Anonymous said...

completely ridiculous. how about polling users before making decisions like this? you might have found that most of us consider this the most useful feature of the site. you're taking away a precious resource and will lose a huge part of your readership as a result. terrible decision-making.

how can, in 2013, organizations still make decisions like this without considering their users' opinions first? all it would've taken was a simple poll. dumb.

Anonymous said...

I spend about 60% of my time on the website answering and asking questions. I've been a constant user on Polyvore for a year and a half, and will probably not being going on much, if all, after this part closes down.

Anonymous said...

The style advice part of Polyvore has really helped me with fashion decisions for school, parties and other events. Without it, I would still be the fashion mess I was months ago. And whenever I buy something new, I always ask members on their opinions of what I should wear with it. Although I fully respect your decision,I hope you reconsider your choice.

Anonymous said...

What??? Why would you close "ask" on polyvore??!!! Besides making sets, the "ask" section is an essential part of polyvore!! I love to help people and this is a great way to do that! Where are the people that need advice going to go now? If you see a decline in people coming on polyvore, this is why!

Alexa said...

Isn't one of the purposes of Polyvore to communicate with others, discuss fashion, and get advice? I have used the Ask section thousands of times. We aren't asking for recognition. We're just communicating and sharing our ideas.
I will not be active after this change is made.

metalheavy said...

I am very, very disappointed by this decision. I'm one of the top gurus, so I can honestly say that the ask section was my favorite part of the site. I used this section more than any other feature on the site and it will absolutely affect the amount of time I spend on polyvore from now on. I answered questions daily and I thoroughly enjoyed helping people. I didn't care at all that polyvore didn't dedicate time to "honoring" people who used this section, the section was never about polyvore, it was about the polyvore COMMUNITY. It was the best way for users to interact with each other. I hope that you will reconsider, it's obvious that no one will be happy about this decision and that the ask section is highly used by your members. You reasons for shutting it down are vague and unsatisfying.

On a note to all the members who loved this section, I invite you all to join thehunt.com. It's a website very similar to the polyvore ask section and the staff there have been nothing but helpful and welcoming. They're actually interested in bettering their website.

kat5 said...

The ask part of polyvore is my favorite part! Please change your mind!

Anonymous said...

Sounds like a terrible idea with a terrible justification. This deserves SERIOUS reconsideration, given how poor the justification is for such a decision.

Anonymous said...

The style advice/ask section was my favorite part of Polyvore and now that you are shutting it down you might as will shut the whole site down because many people wont be using it and more and i will modt likely be one of them

Anonymous said...

let me help you out, polyvore. next time, before making a huge decision that will affect--and potentially alienate--your users, try this.

hi, user. we're considering doing XYZ. what do you think?
a. great idea!
b. doesn't matter to me!
c. you've got to be kidding me! absolutely, 100% do not do this. if you do this, i'll never visit your site again.

by asking first, you can get valuable feedback ahead of time, rather than getting a bunch of C responses after the fact.

user experience 101.

What I loved about polyvore was getting opinions and advice about outfits and what to wear. It was kind of like having a girlfriend or a stylist recommend a good outfit for you through the internet and it honestly helped me alot. I loved seeing the different outfits people gave me because it helped be open to more styles. I like making my own sets, but the style advice was one of the main reasons why I joined this site. I don't think I will be using Polyvore as much anymore after you close down the Style Advice.

Traci Thompson said...

I started using Polyvore as a result of a LensCrafters contest last year and have only utilized the system to create sets. This change does not affect me. NEVER discontinue the contests with fabulous prizes! If that happened, I wouldn't use Polyvore - Yes, I'm very competitive. :)

Anonymous said...

Seems like for every 1 comment about people being happy about the change there are 50 more who think the opposite. Though I don't know why people are complaining, the polyvore team had never listened to us before, why would they now?

Anonymous said...

Loved that section the most :( It always gave me new inspiration and that is why I love Polyvore so much.. :(

Anonymous said...

This section is basically the only reason I even get on Polyvore. WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS

Anonymous said...

This is terrible. I spend practically all of my site time in this section. I personally thought this section was just fine the way it is. I don't see your rational and I am sad to see my favorite part of the website leaving.

I really like the ask section, i have fun giving possible answers and i was planning to use it. This is not an improvement Poly people, sad :(

Chica-Esperta said...

Whatever you believe the problem is with the "Ask" section, it doesn't seem to be a problem to users.
If you feel it should be "better" somehow, I'm sure most users out there would be happy to contribute to this if you could be clear about what the problem is. I know I would be happy to help by all means necessary. Do you need question moderators or anything of the like? Users can help! We love the ask section and many are leaving Polyvore because of this!
The ask section is a very important part of the community, for users to interact with one another, please reconsider this.
If possible (or needed) help me create a blog dedicated to style questions, or move the section elsewhere. I'd be happy to moderate such a project.

Users: if you would like it if I tried to make a new ask section on a blog write to chica_esperta@hotmail.com
It would be very rudimentary at first, but I'll do my best

Anonymous said...

I am really sad. I liked this section and liked giving advice. I might not come here as often now

Anonymous said...

thats probably 2/3 of the reason I come to polyvore..... shame. to be honest, im gonna agree with the people saying they wont use the site as frequently now.

Anonymous said...

This is absolutely UNNECESSARY. Thanks for ruining my heart polyvore. I hope one day the people of this website realize such an idiotic thing they have done and bring it back! Well, I'm not giving up on my sets, since thats all I have left to do. Its too bad, I really really loved the 'Ask' part of this website. It was so unique and helpful.

Anonymous said...

This was literally the only section on Polyvore that I use! Why in the flipping world would you shut this down? Could you at least make a sister site that it JUST Advice then?

Yahoo Answers isn't like Polyvore at all!!! It's not dedicated to fashion, and you can't add items like you can here! WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?!?!?!?!?

Anonymous said...

What lousy justification.

Anonymous said...

This is so so so so sad! I loved this part of polyvore! I love giving and getting advice from so many different styles and opinions! I guarntee this will hut ployvores popularity! I hope they rethink this terrible decision!

I can't believe this. The ask section is the only reason that I visit Polyvore. It has been incredibly useful, insightful and inspiring. To me, closing this section of the site is absolutely ridiculous. Anonymous was completely correct when they said, "Thank you Polyvore for giving us the biggest credit by shutting us down!". If you so concerned about not giving the hardworking Polyvore members in the Ask section the credit they deserve, how on earth is deleting the section they enjoy and actually help others the solution? Along with providing a comfortable area to ask style questions, the Ask section is one of the very best social areas in Polyvore. To me, the choice to delete the section because you basically just care more about other areas of the site seems lazy and an easy way out of working to trying to improve it.

If the "improvements" you've been making in other areas of the site were actually beneficial and significant, I could try to understand where you all are coming from. But honestly, the "improvements" you've been making have only brought Polyvore down from being a really fun and great site to visit to being mediocre at best. It's sad.

I don't understand why. There really is no valid reason to close down one of the most useful sections of Polyvore. What better and greater audience to reach out to than that of users of a typically fashion-oriented website? I honestly haven't been visiting Polyvore all that much lately and Style Advice is an area of the site I can go to when I need it. Now what legit use is Polyvore now? I'll never have the energy to go on it anymore. Sad.

I am disappointed and a little aad about this, since I love the Ask section and its one of my favorite parts of Polyvore. At the same time, I'm on Polyvore to be creative, and I can still do that. Plus, I don't think we give the Polyvore team enough credit! Its not like they're sitting around, saying "oh, lets shut this down to piss people off!" They work hard, and we should appreciate it more and trust that they're doing this because its in the site's best interest.

Anonymous said...

that is really stupid there is only 1 main reason why people go on it is for the one thing u guys are shutting down dont want to be rude but that was a very rude and stupid decision polyvore team

Anonymous said...

Please don't i love that part of polyvore i'm going to miss it so much :(

I'm furious that the Ask section will be closing. Answering questions and receiving feedback from other Polyvore members was my favorite feature of the site. My answers on this site even helped me get my first fashion job. If the Ask section closes, I will no longer visit Polyvore.

this is ridiculous. it was easily one of the best parts of the site. what an awful decision that truly shows Polyvore has no idea what it's users want from the site.

How sad -- that was the primary reason for my visiting polyvore - i would then go to peruse the sets but the ask section was always the primary motivator and draw for me. any idea where else i can go for something similiar. someone mentioned lookbook and chictopia... i ll take a look at them.

looking at the feedback - i hope this decision turn out like netflix's did :P

au revoir polyvore and good luck :)

what a great shame! This has been for me the most useful section of polyvore and I can't imagine myself visiting or using the site even a quarter as much without this function! other people's advice has sent me to shops and Internet shops looking for specific items. It seems a foolish move by polyvore, considering how much fan base and custom you will lose from this!

The ASK section is the only reason I visit Polyvore. I'm going to miss all of my fashion experts! :( WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?!

Anonymous said...

I'm seriously confused, where was the justification for this change?? This was easily my favourite feature about Polyvore and I'm afraid my activity on the site is going to decrease, which is such a shame because I really thought it was getting good recently.

Anonymous said...

This is the dumbest thing Polyvore has done. Many people just go on this website for the style advice. Now we are going to have to take different lengths to get advice from people on polyvore. No one likes this change.

Dave S. said...

Please reconsider this decision. I, for one, shall never visit Polyvore again if this feature is shut down, and judging by the other comments I know that I'm not the only one.

The amount of times Polyvore has rescued me when I've had parties/ raves/ gigs/ events to go to and had no idea what to wear is immeasurable. Even when I've had trouble picking out clothes for going to lectures, or when I've made an impulsive purchase and later realised I didn't know how to wear it, the Polyvore community has always been there to help me out. On average, I currently visit this site around 4 or 5 times a week and that is solely because of the Style Advice section.

You at Polyvore have stated that you weren't giving contributors recognition? This is you practically spitting in their face. I am disgusted by the nihilism and selfishness of this decision, and as a result, should this become a reality I shall no longer visit the site, and I will also discourage anyone else considering doing so.

Polyvore, this is really disappointing. I really do hope, for the site/ company's sake as well as ours, that you'll reconsider.

notanonymous said...

I don't mind not getting a lot of recognition. that section was super helpful, direct way of getting answers. It will be much harder to get answers now, especially for less popular users. EVERY comment I read said to keep it.

Also, you should ask for our input more. You usually just say you're changing things out of nowhere. Ask the users what they want before just changing things, most people are against a lot of your decisions.

This was the only reason I came to Polyvore, so in agreement with the other statements, I won't be visiting the site again.

Anonymous said...

Besides personally being bummed out by this, I also don't see how this makes sense for the company. I see the Style Advice section as something that gives polyvore a major competitive advantage over companies like nimyni, which don't encourage such active participation and cooperation between users. Without that I don't see polyvore retaining its current users or attracting new ones at the same level as it is now.

Anonymous said...

I'm incredibly disappointed in this decision. The Style Advice section is basically the only reason I go on Polyvore, so I'm not sure there'll be much reason for me to be here anymore. I hope you will listen to the comments here and reconsider your decision. You're going to be letting a lot of people down.

Anonymous said...

I quit.

Anonymous said...

That section has been the only part of Polyvore I've ever used and I've always received the best, most conscientious advice. I really doubt I would get the same sort of thoughtful advice from something like Yahoo answers. I'm sad it's shutting down.

Anonymous said...

I only really went on because of that. Goodbye, Polyvore.

Anonymous said...

Yahoo isn't the same. The Ask section was the best part of Polyvore. I'll not be coming back.

Anonymous said...

What? No! Please dont! I dont have a mother or a sister to ask for fashion advice, so I'd always turn to polyvore. The users have helped me so much, and I'm really greatful and thankful. You really need to reconsider this! You'll lose alot of users (including me), if you dont. You probably wont read this, but you need to realise how important polyvore style advice is to us. Please please please dont!!

Mary Pires said...

I'm really sad,I will probably stop visiting polyvore, I love helping people and this is such a bad decision! :( SUPER Disappointing!!!

This change is the worst yet.
I could deal with the others, but this is just plain stupid.
I'm leaving.

Maria Jones said...

Please don't close the ask section! It's one of the best features on polyvore!

Anonymous said...

You should let us decide if its going to be shut down. I mean we actually use it for advice. Maybe we don't want to use other sites. Like did you think about that. You don't really need to make some of the changes you should. You should take what we have said into consideration because if you get rid of the advice section you will lose a lot of users. This is a stupid decision. Like others have said there is no valid reason and its a place where its fun to go and help people and get feedback. Well, i hope you change your minds and not be ignorant. By the way im not trying to be rude im just kind of angry that you didn't even ask any of us first.

Anonymous said...

I think you all should boycott this website. It seems like a very selfish and unprofessional business decision to me. The explanation does not make any sense at all. No one at Polyvore runs the section, the members run it so why do they need to shut it down.I though polyvore was all about community and social networking for fashion lovers.

Anonymous said...

You suck. The advice section was the BEST part of polyvore.
I won't visit the site again.

Alexandra Cohen-Spiegler said...

I want to add my voice to those begging you to reconsider your decision. I discovered Polyvore because of the Ask section and I literally check it everyday. It is the only reason I come to Polyvore and I can't even begin to describe how helpful it is. Please don't delete it!

Anonymous said...

DON'T DELETE IT.

I think I'll be going to the thehunt.com site. Is it worth losing all your users? My opinion, I'd keep your site going to keep your fans and users happy......not re-directing them to another site!!! Who does that???

I love the Style Advice! I joined this website almost four years ago and over time I have slowly lost interest in Polyvore (Sorry!) The only thing that keeps me coming back is the Style Advice. I'm sad to see this go. Can you rethink this Polyvore?

This is so stupid. Only good part of the.site, definitely will not visit after this

noooo :( I barely ever used the ask section but when I do need it it's really helpful! I can't believe this!! Please don't close it

This is the only reason I use polyvore. I will no longer be visiting this site. I come to polyvore for style advice....after all, ISNT THAT WHAT SETS ARE FOR?! Inspiration? Don't fix it if it's not broken.....very dissapointed.

Wow, this is a terrible decision. This is THE SOLE REASON MY FRIENDS AND I VISIT. Needless to say, we will not be using this site.

whaaaat? how is this going to help at all? Style Advice is the best thing ON THIS SITE. If you're shutting it down, I am leaving.

WHAT?! This is a terrible idea. The style part is the whole reason why I love polyvore. It helps me so much. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don’t close it down. If it’s closed down there isn’t any reason to go on this site anymore.

I am so so sad that this part is closing. I don't really have any interest in sets. I am ever grateful to those who helped this fashion disaster become a bit more put together. I thank you for that.

I am very disapointed. This is the sectio of the site that I use the most, almost on a daily basis.

So far most of my friends are quitting, and I will probably leave as well.

I'm very disappointed. Thats all I use this site for. I most likely will stop using polyvore if you shut down that part of the site.

Anonymous said...

After it closes down, I will be closing my account down. The style advice section is the only section i come to this site for.

Anonymous said...

I'm not disappointed. When I joined this site there was no ask section, so the fact that Polyvore is removing it is ok for me. As stated there are other platforms that offer advice. But please could Polyvore offer more opportunities to gain badges?

Wow this is horrible. Why don't you just keep it?

Anonymous said...

I am so sad to hear that style advice is closing down. It was the main reason I used polyvore and the only reason I visited the site so frequently. I think you are making a huge mistake closing style advice- I really hope you consider NOT closing for the sake of polyvore users and the polyvore website!

Anonymous said...

this was the only reason I visited this site. won't be visiting anymore...sadly...i can't believe they don't realize that this is where most of their traffic is coming to...oh well polyvore's loss.

Anonymous said...

WHY?!? This is the only part of Polyvore that I, and many of my other friends that use this site, actually use. Styling advice helps so many people, and all the other stuff on here, not so much. I am very disappointed, and will most likely be leaving this site for I have no more use of it. Thanks for nothing. :'( You just lost a lot of users. Way to go.

Anonymous said...

Really disappointed in Polyvore. Shutting down a main aspect of the site?! Crazy. Sorry for the rant, but you guys CANNOT be serious. TBH, my favorite aspect of Polyvore. Definitely sad to see this feauture go, and sad to say my usage of Polyvore will be decreasing. I don't think this was a smart move on Polyvore's part.

Anonymous said...

I can't believe this. I am so sad. I love giving and getting advice. That is one of the best features on Polyvore itself. That is what makes Polyvore different from other style websites! It is such a shame that no longer we can't do it anymore. There isn't really a reason you have gave us to just shut it down. I love Polyvore and what it has to offer but I am just beside myself. Words can't tell you how upsetting this is to me and a lot of others. I think this is a really bad move on you Polyvore. I am just so livid right now at this decision you have made. I don't know what else to say all I know is that you may lose fans over this. Please just think about what you are doing.

I'm really sorry Polyvore, but this was THE BEST feature of this site. Now that it's gone, I don't think I'll be using Polyvore as much, honestly. You guys really didn't make a smart descision here.

Anonymous said...

Seriously? This is my favorite part of Polyvore.

Anonymous said...

The reasoning behind closing the Ask section is horrible. You just lost a loyal visitor! D:

Anonymous said...

People are staring petitions for this. http://www.polyvore.com/polyvore_dont_close_ask_hearts/set?id=68946884

No one wants you to take away the ask section. I don't think you understand what the users want. A lot of the changes you make we are against.

Taking this section away is not beneficial, at all. Nothing good comes from it. It was such a helpful part of polyvore and you're taking it away? way to go. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Obviously everyone is really upset with this random change being made. Hopefully polyvore can become more clear for their reasoning in making the change or they will loose a lot of people! I love the advice section! I always go to it when planning for a special occasion or for help on how to style a tricky item. My family even asks me to ask fashion advice questions for them because it's so helpful! I'm very disappointed in the decision to take a huge part of polyvore away!

Anonymous said...

Why? I don´t understand... This is one of the best and most useful sections of Polyvore and I think closing it is a very bad decision. I hope it is only temporaly solution and they will re-open it in the future.

Meekkeet Studio said...

That's a shame, because I really love the advice I receive from others. I'm not going on anytime soon since that'll be gone...

I don't see any good reason to, and I will definitely be very upset when it's gone.

This is one of the reasons why I stay on Polyvore. I love giving and receiving my advice, because I used to use Yahoo answers but I got tired of getting troll answers. My friend told me about the 'Style Advice', and I tried it. This is the reason why I even wanted to stay on Polyvore. Why is Polyvore getting rid of this without a just cause? This is unnecessary.

This is the whole reason I joined Polycore :/ I think I will probably not even use Polyvore after this.
POLYVORE: THIS WAS A HUGE MISTAKE.

Me. said...

So because you don't think we're not getting enough recognition, you close it down? Please, give us a better explanation on how this makes sense! You've lost me as a user, and it seems many others as well. This is the part of Polyvore I actually like getting involved in. Heck, most of my sets were made because I needed to answer a question! A big part of fashion is getting inspiration and being an inspiration to others. Why cut that off from us?
