New: Discover Products Your Friends Like!

New: Discover Products Your Friends Like!

On your Following page, you already see sets and collections from people you follow. Now you can also see the products and items they like too! You can easily like your friends' items to let them know you like their style!

In case you'd like to see just sets and collections created by those you follow, you can still use the Creations filter to see just that. You can use the Likes filter to see all the creations and the items your followers like.

We're continuing to improve this feature, and we welcome your feedback. Let us know what you think by leaving a comment here on the blog.

Love,
The Polyvore Team

this must be one of the stupidest updates yet, beating the last one by miles.

Anonymous said...

So far i've enjoyed and benefited from the exposure to other items! Like it a lot.

Anonymous said...

I think it's a great idea and I like it a lot! It's an easy way to find new items! Thank you Polyvore!

Seeing these updates on the home page is nice, but I really would like a way to prevent them from showing up in the activity feed. You can customize everything else in the activities feed, I don't understand why we can't get rid of these notifications because it's so annoying seeing 50+ notifications just because somebody liked a bunch of items from my collection.
Please fix this!

Anonymous said...

Please PLEASE fix it so you have the option to take it off your activity feed! I had mine set to only comments and messages for a reason.

I like this feature! A few functions that I would LOVE to see on Polyvore are:

- ability to create "Private" templates that others can't see or use.

- ability to post/pin Sets, Set Likes, and Item Likes on different Pinterest Boards instead of one.

- ability to sort items by upload date on the collage creation screen.

- have the system automatically assign a "Top Set" designation and date so users don't have to manually enter the information in set comments.

- ability to "Save As" for sets on the collage creation screen. (Open a set, select "Save As", and give the file a different name for editing purposes.)

Thank you for your efforts to streamline and enhance system functionality.

when i try to edit my settings under "account" they always revert back and my changes never save. it's been stuck like this for days and days...

Anonymous said...

ditto to exactly what Traci Thompson said! Fabulous ideas - especially the "save as" feature!
Do wish I could filter the item likes from my activity feed - and I think it may cause some unnecssary conflict (since all items we clip become "community property" regardless - some people get their knickers in a twist over little things, even though they're perfectly within the community guidlines)

I love polyvore so much, thx for an amazing site bursting with inspiration to be creative! However one of my concerns is that the editorials & items I save for future sets can be obtained by others minus the hard work trowling the internet & used before me & secondly that the ease of collecting multiple items will result in alot more copying of sets which's so annoying. Sorry to sound like a whinger but my third concern is not seeing the 'I like this' option telling us if we already voted 'like' on sets coz it takes twice as long to vote for friends creations. That said, regardless of what tweaking happens I'll remain a polyvore gal coz it's simply an awesome site. Thx for yr time & consideration of my concerns.

It makes items easier to found. What bothers me is that every single item that is liked shoes up on my feed page. I have a lot of likes and comments to return and when I look at m feed page...gosh looks so much and overwhelming. Would be nice not to see this feature in my feed page.On the downsize it is horrifying to see how many items are liked from my sets...some girl saved 150 items from my sets without liking my actual set. It feels like more copy cats ...In general thank you for improving Polyvore.

Ducktape said...

I want to point out to those requesting the option that if you go to your settings, under the account tab, there is an option where you can turn item likes on and off. At least, it has worked for me for the past week.

Anonymous said...

I enjoy looking at my friends sets..I do NOT like fumbling through hair clips, flowers, a shoe..and etc to see them.. Items your friend like needs to be re-located to a separate page. I think collections need to be as well. This has been a big discussion in our Poly FB group and it is NOT an improvement..it is a hindrance and very annoying. I have not spoke to one person that likes this. If we see an item we like we can easily go in the set and like it.
Thank you,
Denise

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your feedback. If you'd prefer to turn notifications off, you can do so by going to http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/account.edit and deselecting the checkbox next to "Item Likes."

I prefer not to see the items my friends like. I find enough on my own! I would like to have the option to turn friends' likes off. There are already too many sets to look at, and I don't want item likes to clutter the page up. On my activities page I just want to see likes, followa, and comments. No items, please!

Anonymous said...

Don't like it one bit because if I took the time to find an item and just not able to use it right away and then someone comes along and like it and use it b4 I get a chance too is not fair thats a problem, can you all please try to help with the save items as well is there a better way to organize it there are no numbers to see how many items you have saved and its so hard to go through it and see what you have saved I have so much items saved because when i first started using polyvore i would just save and now its to the point where I forgot what I save please adjust the organize item feature so that items can be found better.

denise said...

I do not mind the notifications of likes..you can turn that off. I want to be able to remove products from the follow page...I do not need help in finding them...they make it difficult and very time consuming to like and enjoy the members sets...only sets please on the main follow page.

Anonymous said...

Totally agree with Shazgoldcoast & Lidia Solymos, it should not be easy for someone to just like an item. I witnessed all day today people liking my items back to back all from one set without even liking the set itself and then go on my page and like an item i just liked, like literally just liked and i said geez i just liked that so they have an option to just go on yr page and into your items and like all the stuff you just liked and never got a chance to use yet it does make it easy for someone to copy a whole set, there should be an option where you can lock your items up until you are able to use them like your own precious closet and for free spirited people who really could careless they can leave their's open but it should be a locking feature and limit the items a memeber can like from a set that has just been posted so that the copying can cease maybe. Please look into and make those changes if its possible I know you'll get tired of the serial copiers that be reported to Polyvore for copying others sets the locking of the items feature or yr personal closet should be put into effect. Thanks so much, love the site anyways!

Анастасия Музыка said...

will be great if I could choose share products that I like or not. if I find something cool to use it in my set I don't like when somebody take it from my saved items

Anonymous said...

true... someone liked almost every item from my sets twice today..one person went in and "liked" over 35 items all at once...all they need to do is make my set & they did not even acknowledge my set..just stole everything from it.. defeats creativity.. I search for unique items..so should they...they have all the indigence. After I use an item now I am unliking it....

Anonymous said...

I totally dislike this new feature. I go to all the trouble to find new items from other sites just to have them liked and used by someone else before I even get the chance to use them myself? No thanks. Some of these are being used and copied into other's sets. What is the fun in that? I have friends on PV who have had numerous sets totally copied and this new feature will only make things worse. Plus I do not care what everyone LIKES! By putting this on the following page it only makes it harder to see everyones creations. I look forward to that! And don't tell me to change it to creations only cause I am sure that MY LIKES will still be coming up on others pages. I love PV but please bring back saved items and do away with this new feature.

Anonymous said...

I think it's a very cool idear, but I don't need to know have liked my items, so pleace take it away from the activity stream it would be great :D

mercimasada said...

i agree with lidia...i actually like the feature as it helps me with identifying potential copying...it's so frustrating and down right annoying to see that people like almost every item from your set, not like the set, then try and duplicate it. i can only imagine what it was like before we could see what someone saved...i'm glad you have advised us of how to filter the like feature, because i only want to view sets and collections of who i'm following. Thanks!

I don't mind seeing what other members like love heart. I also don't really mind seeing people like or heart my items. I know almost EVERYONE I encounter is very upset about people taking Their items.
I do like the options to not see items liked or saved in my activity.
Love being able to manage such changes in my settings : )

Anonymous said...

OK, so I hate this update, but apparently y'all don't listen to ANY of our feedback EVER, so whats the use in telling you?
I noticed Nadia wrote that we could choose not to see the item likes, by changing our settings; while that option is available, it never takes. I've tried it several times, updated, saved my new settings, and every single time it goes back to the other way.
So there ya go Polyvore team: I guess we'll see if y'all listen or not.

This is what I want at Polyvore for a long time! Thank you, but I think it's better to see the items they liked in a different section. It's possible that sometimes we don't want to see the items and sets together. And yes, I don't want to see when someone saved an item from me too. I don't want the other people see when I saved an item from them. Please, find a new way for this.

Robsfriend73 said...

I don't mind people 'liking' my items, but (as a lot of other Polyvorians have said) can we please have the option to turn the notification off on our activity page?

Thank you!! I ♥ Polyvore

PS: And maybe a 'back to top' button in the collections?

Anonymous said...

i REALLY hate it when people take every item from a set and don't actually like the set. don't you guys at polyvore think that is a lame thing to do? all you've done is encourage people to copy sets. i guess now i can keep track of people who take my items and copy my sets. now, someone can use an item before you get a chance to use it. what if they use it the same way you were going to use it. then it might look like you are copying them! i also really hate when people go through your saved items. on several occasions people have gone through my items and made a set i was going to make. these types of people will always be here. i think the people that don't really care about this recent change are people that probably don't have creative or original sets or don't care to. please protect the people that value creativity. please don't allow people to take items from your saved list. if they want to take them from the set after it's been published then that's fine, i guess. despite all my bickering, i will always love polyvore :)

Anonymous said...

This is really interesting !
But I have a suggestion: in the settings, in the "notifications" section, could we delete the "objects likes" (when a user like an item on your collection a on one of your sets) without stopping the other likes (sets, collections).
This might be very good if you could do something for that.

PLEASE REMOVE PRODUCT/ITEM LIKE FROM MY MAIN SET PAGE. IT IS TOO DIFFICULT TO FILTER THE ACTUAL SETS THAT DESERVE RECOGNITION..THIS IS WHY YOU HAVE A SEARCH BUTTON. THEY CAN ALSO GO IN OUR SETS AND LIKE ITEMS..AND THEY SURE DO NOW. i JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO ENJOY MY FRIENDS SETS...NOT SILLY ITEMS ON THE MAIN PAGE. I CAN TOLERATE THE ITEM LIKES IN THE FEED..THAT CAN BE TURNED OF. WHY CAN'T WE FILTER OUR MAIN PAGE..REMOVE ITEM,/PRODUCT LIKES AND EVEN COLLECTIONS..JUST GIVE US OPTIONS...VIEWING SETS HAS BECOME A CHORE SIFTING THROUGH ALL OF THIS SILLY ITEMS.
THANK YOU

I like knowing when people are using my items or what they like in my collections and you can turn that off any time but having them pop up on my home screen is not what I want. I want to see sets that people like not items if you could add this to the 'following' drop down menu I think that would work a lot better!

Anonymous said...

Thank you very much for the update, and for the "Creations" filter. Without it I wouldn't browse the following page anymore; I was wondering if you could set a similar filter for our activity pages, so we wouldn't have to scroll down and down to find out comments and tags. Do you think it would be possible ?
Thank you anyway :)

I think this feature clogs up my page and I have to scroll longer to view and like the sets of the polyvorers I follow. If I like only products that the people whom I follow have used in their sets, then you get a bunch of the same products at one time being used in a set and to me, thats not being creative.

What I would like to see updates such as the 'Effects and Textures', 'Text', '123s', and 'Patterns and Overlays' to be updated to add more choices than are already there.
And on the main feed page where it has that huge long ad that sometimes covers the link to 'following' where I view the list of current contests, I would love to see that fixed!

PS - the area below where you confirm you're not a robot...humans can't even read this mess.

Anonymous said...

Polyvore would you see about adding an auto-save feature!! Sure would help!!

Anonymous said...

I think these new updates are absolutely stupid. First of all I want to see people's sets NOT what they are liking because I really don't care it's just annoying. Second of all it is so annoying that you can see when people like your items it annoys me and many other people on polyvore. So please take these updates away. Why don't you actually make a useful update to the website for a change? like bringing back the ask section because a lot of people really liked the ask section and some people are still mad that it is gone because a lot of people including me thought it was really useful.
So please take away this stupid setting and bring back the ask to actually make us happy for once and not annoy us.
If you actually listen to this which i doubt but you might thanks but i doubt you will actually listen to this and make a good update for a change.

Anonymous said...

I agree with everything Traci Thompson said, those would be some very useful updates. Also any changes I make on the account settings aren't being applied. I see someone else is experiencing the same problems. It says that changes have been made however these changes do not occur.

TheVoid said...

I think this change was truly unnecessary, and I also have to point out that the "Ask" section was one of your best features, and if you removed it for making silly changes like this one I urge you to rethink that.

Yeah, this really interrupts the flow of the page. I want to look at sets, not items. Possibly giving it its own option so that when I click on Following at the top, I can choose 'all', 'creations', 'likes' and then 'item likes'. These changes are quite drastic to the eye and I think before polyvore introduces changes, they should evaluate the repercussions. We're dedicated to your site, but the dedication is not inelastic. Even facebook learned this lesson.

Polyvore said...

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your feedback. If you'd prefer to turn notifications off, you can do so by going to http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/account.edit and deselecting the checkbox next to "Item Likes". Make sure to update your changes!

What are you an automated system that keep saying the same thing over and over about turning off the notifications that is just not it, its not about just turning off the notification just so you won't see whos stealing every item you just literally liked and there go your followers who are right on yr trail liking every item you just liked to use before you get a chance too, once again right now as i speak to you someone is copying or liking all the items I just found to use and not just from a published set they are going to my page and into my items and liking once again all the items I just liked, I don't like it one bit and its very annoying and then they don't even follow you or like your sets its really out of hand and there should be a locking system for yr personal page items. Thanks for listening if u are! Annoyed Polylover

I also like the option to switch it off xoxo

Personally, I'd rather like to see the following:

-Auto save. If I'm working on a set and my computer freezes or my browser crashes, I don't want to be caught off guard.

-Edit Set Description WITHOUT going to the set editor. I don't want to edit the entire thing, I want to edit the description.

-Bring back the visible tags, please. I really liked when we had them.

-ASK SECTION.

-Give us the option to take out the notifications of people saving our items. It's really more annoying than helpful/beneficial.

-ANDROID POLYVORE APP. Come on. Androids are more widespread than iPhones because the hardware is in so many phones. I'd really like to see this as I'm on my phone more often than my iPad.

-Private Templates. So then you can easily make a style of set more than once, but design it for yourself, and not anyone else. So it's unique to you.

-TAG GROUPS? If we can add tags to groups, it could be so much easier to search for keywords/tags for groups, and not just their title name.

Thanks for making Polyvore such an awesome site to use! Although, the last two updates have been more hindering than helpful. xo

Im sorry i DO NOT like this ..as i have spent a lot of tome looking for the right item..then have someone take it & use it before i can..!!!!

Anonymous said...

sorry i dont think its right that you can spend hours searching for things, then anyone can go into your items and use them before you have a chance to.i do think that your items should be private

Anonymous said...

It's so strange for me to hear these things. I've always thought that polyvore was the place of "sharing" all the ideas, items and styles. People should notice that they're not the owners of those things. You go in polyvore, and suddenly you see somebody who has the same taste with you, you're so happy. You look at her items, all her sets. You love her, and I thought this was the way of making people happy. Feeling that she's giving inspire to the other people. And if you hate that the others save items from you, now you can find out who are those people easyly, and send them a message with all your hate in it and you "protect" your profile from all those monsters. But I hope polyvore makes a change soon to make our profiles private and people looks at only their own sets and items as long as they want. Maybe it will be much more better for them.

Dana said...

Many people are disturbed that it is so easy to take the items we collected from us without even liking what we make and using them, often before we get a chance to. I look at it like I am sharing my closet with millions of my sisters, and they borrow stuff without asking cause that's what sisters do, and its nice to have sisters. I try very hard to always like what I borrow from. It helps to look at it that way.

Great suggestions Traci Thompson! I love the "save as" idea also! I would love to not have the liked items show up in my notifications!! I got slammed with over 350 in 5 minutes. I am in so many awesome groups on Polyvore, I would love to be able to submit to more than 5 groups at a time, and not have to go through the whole editing process to repost into different groups. I also think it would be great if it could be indicated which groups we have posted each set in to. Love this site and Polyvore so much, keep up the great work!!

I really don't care if somebody likes something from a set I made. Can you make an option where you can customize whether or not these appear in your notifications?

Caroline Grant said...

After adjusting the information about the likes in my stream, I still find it annoying, I'm afraid, but sometimes it is so with getting used to something new.
COURTESY
I have also noticed that this feature has created a lot of friction about courtesy around "liking" items. Even if you are not proprietorial about the items you have clipped from the web (after all, they belong to the photographers and the websites they are featured in, not us), it is a bit shocking to see someone liking a considerable amount of items and not even bothering to like the set or the collection they appear in.
POLYVORE ETIQUETTE
Maybe it would be time for Polyvore to announce some kind of etiquette for its users, and curtail the outright copying of whole sets, as it creates an understandable discomfort for the victims and it is evidence of a behaviour that is disruptive and harmful in Polyvore. We create sets, which is beneficial for Polyvore, and surely we deserve to do so in a stress-free environment, and that is surely Polyvore's responsibility.

Anonymous said...

I think this update is just as stupid as closing the ask section. I want to see people's sets, not what items they like. I can find items I like all by myself. I wish there was a way to hide the items. BRING BACK THE ASK SECTION! Really all polyvore has become is a big advertisement for companies, its lame.

Horrible idea like everyone says I took time to find each piece n you make it so easy for others to take our things. Itd be nice to actually BlOCK someone period as well. One last thing it sucks as well if you save an item or save a draft it automatically puts those items first in their category. You then go to your main page n low n behold people have already made a set with it. Just annoying

April (Prilsplace) said...

I do not like it. I feel like it clutters the main page/ my activity feed. Unnecessary.

Anonymous said...

I get so excited seeing 50+ activity and then it turns out almost all of them are item 'likes' - I really don't need a notification every time someone saves an item from one of my sets or collections. I'm losing out on so many comments etc and my activity log has become so convoluted, especially if I'm checking on my phone!
I really don't understand why you got rid of the +me on items we've saved. THIS ISN'T FACEBOOK! I don't want or need to 'like' an item and I certainly don't care if people like items I've saved. I saved them, they are for me and if others want to save them that's fine, BUT I DON'T NEED A NOTIFICATION EVERY TIME THIS HAPPENS!
I keep 'unliking' items because I think I've accidentally deleted them or something. I'm back and forthing like an idiot because you keep making POINTLESS changes that only make things harder and more complicated for users.
AND I still hate that we can't just edit the set info instead of going back into a set over and over again.

plz plz plz revert back to '+me' option instead of numbers, it makes double the work & my set likes are going down :( coz if someone who liked it previously clicks again, the number goes down & if not immediately clicked again it stays that way! plz plz plz just fix that back. we need to know if we voted on a set already at a glance.

I love Polyvore and it has been so much fun allowing my creativity to flow. I have to side with the people who are requesting to STOP the liked items. I've had a complete set copied with no alterations. They just went in and liked everything in my set. IT IS A TRAVESTY. I too save unique items that I want to create with at a later time only to log on and find those items have already been used. What's wrong with the following picture?

90,927 set views
103 profile views
95,700 item views

I have 5,000 more item views than set views. People sit on their Iphones and just clip my items 45-50 at a time. WE NEED A BLOCK FEATURE!! I don't mind one or two items but when you start taking 30-40-50 that's ridiculous, and they don't even like the sets. Also, I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAY..that change feature to turn likes off does not work. Also, I keep getting email notifications when I clearly have turned email notification off. The feature doesn't work and it reverts back. PLEASE GIVE A CLEAR EXPLANATION OF WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. If I don't want email notifications I shouldn't be receiving them. If you're not going to change the liked item feature then please allow me to be able to turn it off so what I don't know won't bother me. THANK YOU!

Don't like it at all .... i clip many items and do not always have time to use them the same day ... so when i have the time to make a set it turns out that most of my cliped items have been used many times before i had the chance to make a set with them ... i love to make sets with items that i personaly have cliped , it makes the set more original, new and unique .... you have taken away the creativity to make something new and it is not inspiring to me any more to make a new set ! ! !
You also have created candyland for the copycats , they are certainly very happy with this change .... some of my sets have been already copyed the last days!!!
Oly the copycats are happy , not your loyal and creative polyvore members .... we are not happy at all with this change ... please turn of the item likes from the follow page ! ! ! Thank you @polyvore .

Hate it. Too many copycat sets/annoying similar ones appearing in the hours right after they've been made. Like already mentioned, people are liking almost every item in a set but not the set itself and it's clogging up feeds. Personally, it's extremely off-putting and unnecessary. Too many changes, too little time. It's making the site lose it's unique creativity.

It would be nice if there was a way for us to see sets those we are following Liked, but NOT items.

I like seeing Liked sets, because it is a way for me to discover other members who inspire the people who inspire me.

The Liked items just junks up my page, to be honest - especially when a friend goes on a late night clipping spree and I have to fish through dozens and dozens of Liked items just to see some sets. People do things such as Liking five pairs of black jeans just to have the different clips... Why do I want to see that? It's useful for them to have, but really annoying when it's on my Polyvore home page.

I do NOT like this new system.

Anonymous said...

I just posted above. I want to be clear:

I do not mind the notification setting that I can turn on/off to see notifications when someone Likes my items.

I DO mind the non-optional inclusion of items Liked by people I follow when I try to just see sets that they Liked.

Having the option to turn this off, as well, would be really useful.

To be honest, this is yet another move that makes me feel like Polyvore is becoming more and more about hardcore advertising to its users. That signals a decline, for me.

My likes are also not increasing and with the outage of the 'Ask' page it's harder to promote my sets despite the effort I put into them.. Can you please find away to fix/reduce this problem?

PErhaps a Forum would bring the community closer as I also find that without the Ask page the whole community doesn't seem as close as only to top elite have a constant spotlight shone on them. A forum would be able to open up people to others as well has connect and improve community.

Once again, it would be nice to be able to see sets and collections my Followed friends Like, but NOT the items they have Liked.

I want more than the Creations option to see just sets/collections by people I already follow, but less than seeing every single item that someone I know Liked. I just want to see the sets/collections they Liked. That is how I find new people to follow.

I have been using only the Creations page, because it's really annoying to look through the Liked items to try to see sets. I feel like I've missed out on new members I might like to follow. Making the items smaller is OK, but it is still all just visual noise to a person like me, who doesn't want to see the items at all.

I hate the new polyvore profile. you can see everything on my profile. polyvore should let people decide if they want to update to the new profile or keep their old profile. the thing that I hate the most is having to keep scrolling down to look for an item, I like to just type in a page number and im on that page. I also hate how the likes are set up. for the likes you see items liked, sets liked, and collections liked. I don't like seeing all that at once, I like to click on if I want to see the collections or just the sets I liked. if you ask me this is the most unorganized polyvore setup yet. POLYVORE SHOULD LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE IF THEY WANT TO UPDATE THEIR PROFILE!!!

Okay, so I don't come here a ton but I told so many people about the "Ask" section. I got some great ideas and help there. I don't understand why that would be taken away? This page is just a big advertisement now with no interaction between members. Does anyone know of another site or blog that would have an Ask section?

No it is not a crime to like other people's items a few at a time when it is something unique you can't find for yourself. What you are doing is taking every single item from people's sets that they spent a long time looking for to express their own individuality. I suggest that you clip or shop to find your own items to express yourself as that is what this site is all about! Why don't you find your own unique style and not use someone else?! u.u

A little late to the party on this, but I emphatically agree with everyone saying the "like item" feature should be hidden. Yes, I'm guilty of using other's items as well, but I put diligent effort into reviewing all the sets that had used the piece first to make sure my set offers a different interpretation and makes it fresh. However, I noticed my sets, and many other user's sets, basically being repeated over and over and over with the same popular items. I really feel like hiding items would help alleviate some of this and bring back some creativity!
