New Look on Set Pages

Dear Polyvore Community,

We think that one good thing should always lead to another. (And another, and another, and another…) So we’ve updated our set pages to help you find even more things you’ll love!

New Look on Set Pages

Here’s what’s new:
  • A new Overview tab shows the set’s items and pages full of related styles to explore! You can browse through more sets, similar products, and collections all on one page.
  • The comment box is higher on the page, so it’s easy to tell your friends what you like about their sets.
  • We show you lots more sets from the same member! They’re bigger, too, so you can see more details and can comment or like them without leaving the page.
  • Comments and Likes each have their own tabs, so you can connect with other members who love the same sets.
  • Collections, Contests, and Groups offer even more ways to discover new people and styles you’ll love.

Check it out. We’d love to hear what you think!

Love,
The Polyvore Team

When I got the "sneak peek" the other day, I was overwhelmed by the amount of info on one page. But I have to admit it has grown on me...I like it.
I would love to see a "likes" tab on the item page. You guys work so hard to make the site what it is.Thanks for making this one of my favorite places online (^_^)

I don't like. It's annoying and difficult for me to make comments. :/ and it's just really confusing.

Anonymous said...

No offence, but now it'll be impossible to get comments because it'll take 20 minutes to get to the comments. Please, just bring back the old one with the showcase and all that. At least bring back the show case!

Anonymous said...

Where can we disable it?

Anonymous said...

Absolutely terrible. Since there isn't yet an Android app, infinite scrolling is a real pain if you want to view the site on mobile. The new set layout isn't more streamlined. It's clunky and the changes are edging me away from Polyvore more and more.

All of these changes seem like a step back in design, other than the fact that there's more room for the promotion of sponsored items, which would bring in more revenue, I would assume.

Traci Thompson said...

I love this change!

I don't mind the look of the top part of it. What I don't like is when you look underneath the set where it shows all your other stuff, Polyvore has conveniently found a way to hind promotion items mixed within my sets. We already have enough of that on the main page, don't need anymore of it on our stuff!

Randi said...

I don't like it either... I miss the layout before that took some getting used to also. The similar style is very distracting. The previous sets in a row was much better. If you want to make improvements please bright back the showcase to the profiles.
Thank you.

Completely awful..I hate it..I hate commenting on sets now! I like it much better the other way, the comments are way too long. It gives me a headache to read anything over a sentence. Way too complicated, over crowded and the comment space is way too limited length wise. I don't even think I would be able to get used to it, way too annoying.

This is a great change, with great features. Thank you for your hard work.

Not really a fan of it as a whole. The one thing that I really don't care for is that there is no easy way to scroll through more of the person's sets like the previous layouts. If there is a way to include that I think this look would be fine.

Lv2Create said...

I think I like the old set up better although time will tell. One thing I will REALLY miss on the old set up is contest wins were displayed on each set page. If Polyvore would add that feature back, it would be better.

Change it back, Polyvore.Nobody likes it, and it has now made things harder for us roleplayers.

Not happy about this, I especially dislike the fact that I can't see the other sets from the member below the set I'm looking at. At least make that change, since I'm sure you're not gonna be giving us the old layout back.

Niwi said...

I like the display which is from the previous changes, the black head and Italic police. But...
I am sure you've been working hard on this, but I can't like it, because visiting sets and commenting is getting harder and harder. From the last page of a member's set, to see the other sets on a whole size, we now have to open them one by one. And they are lost among a mess of sets AND items AND collections. Do you think it'd possible to put at least some filter to avoid items in the view. And btw, while we are talking about items, could you remove them on our profile page from our "Likes" tab? Because they already show under the "Items" tab and once again this is a real mess when you want to find one member's set you liked...
You worked hard to give us the possibility to see our sets bigger because "they deserved it" you said at that time, and now many of us are going to quickly fave them from the smaller size on profile pages. Isn't it ironic? Personnally, to gain the time lost into the last changes this year, I had to cut down my contact number to about 300. Too messy for me. Sorry, you said you'd love to hear what we think...

I quite honestly find this change to be absolutely atrocious. I love reading comments and getting to read what my followers have to say about the set that I create. I think that is what Polyvore is about. Getting that positive feedback or getting a compliment about the art you create. I have so much trouble reading the comments with this new layout. Perhaps it is just me, but please reconsider changing it back. I doubt you will however because this site never takes into the consideration the opinions the members of Polyvore have. I think this needs to change otherwise the amount of members the site has will rapidly decline. I'm incredibly disappointed.

Anonymous said...

OK ??? where we can see now who likes the set on the set page ?????
I like it but the likes are really missing!I don't like that page dosen't have an end!

Dolshea said...

I love it. Being new to Polyvore, It's been confusing to keep up with what sets I've to submitted to which groups. The new features solves that problem.

It's also nice to have who liked my set or collection on the same page as well. This will hopefully allow me to build stronger relationships with who's "really" following me.

Great Update!

Rebekah McNabb said...

I think that the comments should still be underneath the set, some people put a lot in the description box. I understand that you want to keep Polyvore looking hip and fresh, but this one isn't totally working.

GOOD but don't want other people's set in that page, it's just not right. i loved the old line on the bottom where we could easily see and click other sets of a member so please put that back. thanks

gawgeouspaws said...

NOT A FAN.
I really don't like this at all. Polyvore, you've been making a lot of changes, and I've put up with them and even appreciated each change, but I hate this one. I can't see myself even growing to tolerate it. You're taking the feel of Polyvore away. Just stop, please.

gawgeouspaws said...

I don't know. I've explored it more, and I suppose I don't hate it as much as I said I did, I just get tired of all the changes sometimes. This one... could be worse.

gawgeouspaws said...

Alright, sorry I'm posting so much, but I seem to be posting a comment every time my feelings on the matter change. For the most part, this is OKAY. I don't like it, but it's OKAY. What I really don't like is that you have to click a little tab at the bottom to view comments, and that the likes show the sets of the people who liked it. That's not what that's for, and your set shouldn't be about somebody else's sets, which is what that little "likes" tab does.

Anonymous said...

I'll get used to it but it's a little confusing.

Anonymous said...

ugh. no no no no NO!

It looks so horrible. The overview is horrible. I don't want to see items that I don't even like or use under my set. I don't even care if it's similar. It's like they want you to see items you don't care to see. And now I can't even click over from sets before or after the set. Instead I have to look through items not in the set. If it's a fashion set, all you see is fashion sets not art or interior set. I want people to see ALL my sets. To see anything else you have to click on a tab. Now if i want to see contests, i have to click a tab. see collections, click a tab. This just makes you click more. I hate how Polyvore keeps changing every few months. It's not even getting better. It is getting worse. PLEASE JUST CHANGE IT BACK

I want my contest wins on each of my sets displayed as it was before ..... how do i know how many contest wins this set has !!!
Not all my sets are on display under the set people are looking at!!!
Now i have open a tab for likes a tab for comments and a tab for contest a tab for groups and a tab for collections ... it just takes ages to overview my set , before it was all on display on 1 PAGE !!!
Dear Polyvore i really don't have the time to do all that just to get an overview on my set , this is just a BIG MISTAKE .... i'm soooooo disappointed , i adore Polyvore and i get here to relax and enjoy myself , but you sure got me frustrated with this Set Pages up date ..... i don't have the time for all this !!!
Please give us a clear overview , you said you'd love to hear what we think... well that's what i think , and i'm not happy !!!

Anonymous said...

It's not that bad, but you missed out the contest wins section, which was really cool. Consider of adding that back.

I don't like it. At all.

i don't really like it

it's very busy and there's a lot going on all at once.

I guess i'll get used to eventually

I'm honestly not a fan of the "new look". I might eventually get accustom to the look but for now, I don't really like it. : T

I believe you should DEFINITLY get an Android App because I can't use it on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and I use Polyvore VERY often, which leaves not to create Sets, Templates, nor Collections. Please take these things into consideration!!!

ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS

JUST A WAY TO GET MORE ADS ON THE PAGE AS POSSIBLE
LITERALLY SO BAD HOW DO YOU CHANGE BACK TO THE OLD LAYOUT >:(

I hate this. Can we disable this look if we don't like it? It is impossible to see comments now, takes up to twenty minutes or more, because of how you set them like our profile (still hate. Rather have pages than this mess). Polyvore and the clipper have been slow and have frozen up on me due to the profile page scrolling. I agree with Martin Greta and Rebekah. This is ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

Please let us disable this!!! I absolutely hate it! I can't even see comments without loading them all. I don't like the advertisements with my sets below at all. It should go back to how it was before with the stream of MY sets ONLY and the larger area to comment. It is too compact, especially for those of us who do long posts.

Jessica said...

I don't like it at all and I cant find where you can flag someones set.

giselle said...

I don't like it at all. It would be nice if the old format with the showcase could come back. The website is turning too much into another social media site.

vampfreakb4twi said...

I would like it more if when we scroll down we exclusively see just our set & items used. Not a big fan of the other items.

Anonymous said...

Personally, I dislike it. I prefer the layout of the other set a lot more. The ole set layout was a lot simpler and easier to understand.

Anonymous said...

This latest change makes me so sad, it gives me belly ache just by looking on my set page. You are now putting items of YOUR choice on MY page! I don't like them, I don't want them on my page, please consider changing this feature. It would be OK with me if you decide to mix it up and put my items over the set page, items that I clipped or liked. That way, it would somewhat reflect my taste. But right know, I'm just ashamed and afraid my polyfriends could think I actually like those creepy items! Please consider the option of putting our own items there, thank you.

Anonymous said...

not sure about the whole set up with the likes as a scrolling page. Honestly, it looks messy, but I know y'all are trying to make it better and i truly do appreciate that.
Not that anyone who has anything to do with it really reads the comments but if by some chance you do and you're open to a suggestion from a random concerned member; it would be so much easier to deal with if you would change things slowly, one thing at a time, instead of all at once. It's hard to swallow a whole new design at the drop of a hat.

chelsea said...

I actually don't mind the layout, but I do agree that all the items/promos all over the site is becoming ridiculous. I understand it brings in money, but polyvore is starting to look like one giant ad. Since the set pages are really personal to the individual maker, I think it would be much more appropriate to only list the items used in the set and other sets/collections by the same maker.

Tayler said...

I still have not gotten used to the main page and profiles looking like this. I really dislike that the sets are like this now too. I think most of the "similar" stuff is totally unnecessary information and should not be the primary tab. Also, why have comments in two places?
I do like that the set shows up larger, although it barely fits on my laptop screen.

On a semi-related note, endless scrolling anywhere is a horrible idea because it will eventually crash or freeze a lot of people's browsers, especially if you have more than one tab open.

Anonymous said...

Have you heard the maxim "if it's not broken, don't fix it?" Yeah. You might want to remember that. Because this is awful. Every new change you've come up with lately is awful. ;_;

Anonymous said...

This is a lot of information to take in but i guess it will take some time getting use too. One thing that i think you guys should work on fixing instead of these layouts is making it easier to find things while creating a set and finding groups! Otherwise, i love polyvore!

Anonymous said...

I don't like it please turn it back! :)

Anonymous said...

It's so difficult to see comments!! Pleases changeeee

Stephanie said...

I cant find where it use to show the groups they posted to and the contest they entered the sets into? That is how I find groups and contest alot of the time! Is this going to be fixed ? Its going to take some getting use to new way of things but I hope you fix what I stated above. Thank you!

Is there any way to preview a set before publishing it ???? Sometimes it just doesnt look the same, I always have to make changes. please add a preview button

AJKC said...

Really really really don't like the promoted products on my profile page, we can see all that on the public Poly page so I don't think we need them on our own. Very confusing trying to go from set to set, either on my own page or on someone else's. How do you go to the next set???? Where is it?? I would recommend removing the promotion products that are scattered among the sets under the tab "Similar Styles" as it is very annoying having them there!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I can not see what my set group has published

Sarah said...

Personally, I really dislike this. It's too confusing, and not pleasing to the eyes at all. I preferred the other set layout than this. Bring back the contests the set was entered into/won, and the groups it was entered in. By doing this, people would think you are trying to get rid of groups as well because THIS is how word is spread about groups and contests more often than not. These updates are starting to get ridiculous, personally. And these features are actually slowing down the site and my computer. Bring back the pages to the profiles (instead of scrolling you can type in a number like in the creation app) and the old layout. Start keeping this in mind: "If it's not broke, don't fix it". Because really, by trying to keep 'in' and 'up to date' you are selling out and not being what you were made to be. Remember a lot of things go 'out of style' and new things don't stay new, and the feeling wears off. By doing these types of updates you are pushing away so many who have been on here for YEARS! Remember it's not just teens on here, but adults and older adults.

Definitely liked it how it was before... not like this...

classy-kid said...

I love it a lot. I got it earlier this week with the sneak peek and it startled me but I never hated it. The only con is that the comments are skinnier so it takes a lot of work to read through long ones. I like how it's laid out though, which is a new one for me. Plus, I'm usually on my app anyways, so even if I hated it... it wouldn't matter. :p

Anonymous said...

I love it all

Anonymous said...

I hate it, you are making it so difficult to look at large blocks of text. It looks terrible, it's hard to find items, if its a template it sucks, and it's just to much in general.

Chelsey said...

Yikes. I don't like having to switch tabs to look at all of my information. It was so much easier when I had all of that information on one page. Also, not being able to look at my contest wins? Not cool.

Sara Knox said...

I was looking at a set and posted a comment, and when the page refreshed, it was with the new design. It was easy to find my comment in the right margin right next to the set. I like that visually, and the creator's description and user comments are the parts I care about the most anyway. I also like that the user's other sets appear larger now. Visually, I love it. One minor drawback: it's a little annoying to have to click links to see contests it was entered in or groups it was submitted to. None the less, I like the change overall. Thanks for your hard work!

Anonymous said...

so you think it was necessary? noooo. why I have to see advertisement? why I have to see items - not from my set but so many other? why other people must to see that items too? I know what you do. the main your target is promotion of different products....

Lore-L said...

sorry, but it is terrible! I love polyvore before sooo much and the focus was on the unique community that originated here, by the comments and the likes. if you visited other sets, you could see directly, in which contests this was filed and could also join in, now it is a rather uncommon time killer and has something of a sales page. shame.

Anonymous said...

agree with Lore-L. sales, promotions....

NewsJoan said...

All beginnings are difficult, and of course this new look also requires some habituation time.
But one thing that is Really Annoying is how difficult you've made it to scroll through a person's sets, it take "Forever" now.
And when I visit a person's page, it's her/his set's I'm interesting in, Not others.
It's very annoying to be disturbed by others.

aniael said...

At first I was not too happy, but I quickly got used to it. It is just as it was the change in our profiles. At first, no one was happy, but we got used to it. I think that these changes are really good.

Keara Ramsey said...

apparently this did not comment on my phone... so I guess Ill just retype everything on my cpu..

I havent had a chance to look at all the new changes, only the changes when you look at a single set, and here is my issue. Instead of showing the first 4 comments on the right side and then clicking more and having to scroll down to the bottom of the screen in a different place entirely, you should keep it up top on the right side and just have a continuous scroll option just in that certain sized area if you are wanting to keep in contained in that tight little spot. Otherwise, it is seriously the most annoying thing ever if you want to look at the 5th comment on a set.

And also, I wrote you guys from your contact us page, a couple of questions a while back and still have gotten no response. As a matter of fact, in the past 8 months I have been on polyvore, i have tried contacting you numerous times and have never, not once, gotten a response back. I am not really sure anything I have ever said to you guys is being heart at all. Makes me feel like you dont care about your users opinions or that you care to help us out with our problems and questions on here. And I probably wont get a response back to this either. Thanks.

You guys ask for feedback, and here it is. Most of the people who have commented here dislike the changes and wish they could have the old polyvore back. I agree with people who have said by doing things like this you are pushing away people who have been here for years, but none of you seem to actually care about that.

I understand there's a sort of pressing need to make money and such, however, there should be the option to toggle it off if I didn't want anything to do with the new layout, with the ads or whatever. I would personally want my comments to look the same, because whenever a page is over like 1000 comments and you try to check out the older ones, it ALWAYS crashes and you can't see them. If that's gonna happen with over 5 comments now, well, you're really limiting things around here.

If you're not going to change things back to the way they were (which I think you won't, you never do) at least give the users the option to switch back to the old format. Switch things back to a time where you didn't have never-ending loading pages, which are a drag, switch back to a page where I can see a lot of comments and there is a bigger space to them, switch back and make my polyvore look the way I want my polyvore to look. If this is about expressing myself, then at the very least let me express myself in a way I find it more pleasing to the eyes than the one you're currently giving me.

I don't like it. I don't like other items mixed in with my items and sets for a start, Now I have items in my sets I never put there. I think items should not be displayed. I cannot see the groups I have placed a set on and check as before. But what difference does it make, Polyvore do what they want and they never hear what we say anyway. If anything I think more people are leaving Polyvore because of the changes. I have hardly heard from anyone since the change. Get the items of my sets. I did not put them there.
Its an intrusion.

Agree with Anonymous (November 20, 2013 at 4:32 AM) about the same people on Top set. almost all sets are the same. in the same style. with the same products. sometimes we can see there something really beautiful, incredible, stylish. but it's so rarely. haha )) people! all that changes need to show us some specific products we need to use in our sets. we didn't use that products - so we are not in Top set )) that's all. many people there use Polyvore to get a money for their sets from Chicnova etc. and they don't care about all that changes. but people who really use Polyvore to show us their creativity, their sense of style don't like all that changes. because they don't need to see your promotions

why are you guys so intent on making it harder and harder to actually visit and comment on sets, and enjoy being on this site. It's all just so messy, and virtually impossible to navigate on my phone.
why can't we have a 'sets' tab so people can actually see just our sets - I don't want f*cking sponsored items on my set pages, I don't care if at the end of the day this is a business, why can't we have one place that is just ours? I don't want 'similar styles', I want my sets.
grrrrr, this is so frustrating

Lisa R said...

Every change you make means it is harder and harder for members to communicate with each other. This latest change means that we can no longer go straight to the next set for the same member, instead it is completely cluttered with random items and sets which most of us will just ignore. We will no longer bother to open individual sets but just view them from the members profile page which are smaller and means we will miss any notes or announcements written with them and we'll be less likely to leave comments. Please bring back the option to select the persons next set.

Polyvore, why do you put so much energy into changing things that make us members confused and are not necessarily beneficial ? Why can't we get the changes we want and have asked for over and over and over and over? Like, for example, higher than a 50 item limit in sets, higher number of clicks allowable to crop items, trophies for contests with less than 50 members, larger view of sets on profile page as well as more space for a personal description and showcase ? I think if you implemented at least some of these things you would get an overwhelming response of joy and not negativity. To me, most of the changes reflect an increase in consumer driven product placement which honestly depresses me as a member of society and a human being.

lilly gauntlett said...

I kinda find the new layout ugly and is making our individual profiles look like a desperate breeding ground for advertisement ("similar items") therefore a) making it all looking aesthetically unpleasing and b) discrediting to people work with the whole page being littered random items of cheap clothing. I understand the need but It's unnecessary when the whole site is advertising stuff already.

P.s. If you can't change the whole advertisement dilemma then instead can you at least contemplate collecting individual sets together on the overview because it took 5 minutes (and I only have 46 sets) to get to the last one and that really is stupid isn't it?

Why change? It's so confusing! you want people to give up on polyvore? Rather than simplify, complicate everything! Do not really like any of this! I am disappointed with polyvore. NO NO NO

I prefer how it was before. It was simpler to use. Dislike

I agree with everyone who said not like it. It is not pleasant

Anonymous said...

i do not like the new set page layout at all

Anonymous said...

PLEASE remove the items from the set page. I can't stand how commercial the site has gotten and now you've even put "ads" for items all over my set pages - it was bad enough (and I protested) when they went into the overview pages but now they've invaded our individual set pages as well.
I use Polyvore to explore my creativity, connect with like-minded people, and enjoy styling fashions that I could never afford to actually purchase. I DO NOT WANT MY CREATIVITY TO BE USED TO SELL PRODUCTS!
I've been approached countless times by myriad websites to "promote" cheap Chinese goods on Polyvore and have not only refused, but also refused to "like" any sets that do this. I understand you need to create income to keep PV running, but please do it separately from our personal pages and work. It's an ethical choice that should be mine to make, not be imposed on me. I'll start using a different site if this doesn't change and it pains me to say this as I've been with you for a number of years now.

Wambliwakan is my Polyvore name

I don't understand why you had to change the "Sets" page. There is an old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I liked the old format much more than this one. Now, about trying to make a set today. There are only 3 pages of items in nearly every category. What the heck is going on?

Anonymous said...

Same here, why is there only 3 pages in the 'sets' category. It's really annoying. I can't create anything with only 3 pages of items to look at. Please change it back.

Anonymous said...

Is there something wrong with the set creator at the moment? I've been going on and can only access three pages of items. If it's broken, could someone fix it? And if it's a conscious decision, could someone change it? Because, quite frankly, I don't understand the point of it. It has no benefit and massively limits creativity.

It took me about a day to like it I love how on the bottom it puts your other sets there!!!

I'm not trying to be rude or anything in any way, but i dont really like the new layout. I liked the old layout to where all the sets from the same member were under the set you were looking at, and how the comments were under that. Some people put alot of stuff in the descriptive box, and for a confined space for the comments on the new layout, just isn't working. I gives me a headache to scoll that far down. Again i say, i'm not being rude or anything, but i'm just sharing me opinion, and giving you, polyvore, some advice to at least to change the comments or set views to the old way.
I dont even know if i can get use to this new look.
And i also dont know if this new layout is the thing that's effecting my stuff to where i cant like sets, like items, follow anybody, comment, view my own items, none of that. I just dont understand why my stuff is doing that...

Dislike it !!!!! turn it back plz !!!!!

I prefered the OLD POLYVORE.
When I am viewing a set I want it to be at the centre of my attention.
That's why I think the comments at side are really a bad idea.

I think you should RE-THINK the positioning of comments. It seems to me like you are giving less importance to them.

Where is the button to delete comments left by others???

i'm sorry, i dont want to sound mean or anything polyvore but i dont like it. honestly i dont like this update. why? cause its a cluttered! its not sleek and simple anymore! you made it to be so difficult to actually figure out what on earth is going on! i understand everything with making updates but this? i dont understand why you made this. what was so wrong with the set layout? the old one? oh yeah NOTHING! it was simple to view and it was sleek, not clustered. i knew what were the next sets, could view my contest wins for the set and the groups i published that set into and most of all, can view all of my comments! i dont know if its just me or not but i had my taglist in the comments and after like thirty comments? its gone (that and older comments) like what the heck? polyvore what happened to my old comments? i cant view any more after that! why did you do this polyvore? is it part of the update or a glitch you guys did? the commenting i can get used to (it being switched to the side) cause it can be pretty easy to get used to it, just not the rest polyvore

now we're stuck with these tabs to view the groups the sets are in, comments, and likes? its more wasting time truth be told. i understand like said before, the whole updating the site but is it just me or is polyvore becoming like Microsoft with their not needed updates??? first i have my ie11 not work on polyvore nor on other sites and now we have this updated that i dont honestly see how its much better then the old layout for sets. doesnt make sense to me. dont become like microsoft polyvore with the updates! if it works fine and isnt needed, then dont do it. simple as that. honestly i think polyvore isnt in it for the us users cause we didnt want this in the first place, they just shoved this update randomly out of the blue along with putting featured items aka advertising them. my profile is not an advertisement for other products (unless i am advertising in said set which i never do) i dont want to see items/sets that arent related to my set and other members created sets. i only want my own sets along with other member's sets made at our profile. someone in the past comments made a really good point in this with ( anonymous, November 20, 2013 at 2:11 PM. just read her comment)this isnt what us user asked for in updates. the ones we WERE AND ARE asking for is 1.)apps for andriod and windows phones 2.)bring back our showcases 3.)no more fifty item limit in sets 4.)bring back the ask section

those are the updates we, USERS want. not some updates that dont make sense in my opinion. like said before, i dont want to sound mean (apologize if this does sound mean!) but this is my honest thoughts on the update. polyvore wanted to hear our thoughts, well this is mine. not sure if others will agree (some probably will) but yes, bottom line. not a big a fan

I really don't like this new setup of the site!! It's so difficult for me to write comments on other sets, and looking to other comments I'm not the only one! Please bring the old 'setup'!!!!!!

free site = buttloads of ads.

that's the way it goes.

if you won't let us personalize our page because you need to make money from advertising, then why not let us personalize our profile and have it ad-free if we pay a small fee?

it's a win-win. you get money and i get to navigate the site the the way i want.
there really should be an option to personalize your profile by paying a small fee.

any changes made on expanding the capabilities of the editor are great...but other it doesn't seem like you make changes like that very often. it would be great if we had color circles like we have color squares.

this site used to be so cute and fun. i miss the talky bubbles comments used to be in and the way people were kind and creative. Now this site has become the epitome of commercialism and mediocrity. it's been such a gradual change, though....when i think about what this site looked like two years ago it is almost unrecognizable from what it is today....but, i probably will never leave because there is no where else i can make sets like i do on polyvore. if there was, i would be gone in a hot minute.

in the last year the ratio of my set likes to set views has taken a nose dive and is shamefully small. it used to be the opposite. so what's going on there? i dont' like other people's sets as much as i used to...that could be a reason. people do tend to like your stuff if you like theirs. i also have a lot more followers...so that could be the reason i have a lot more set views. but if they just look at my stuff and i don't know who in particular looks at my stuff, then it doesn't do me any good...

every since you separated the activity page from our profile page (the day polyvore died in my opinion) my inclination to look at other people's stuff and explore the site has waned. so if it was supposed to increase activity it had the opposite effect on me.

i'm like a recluse on here now.

it would be so interesting to see the metrics on this kind of stuff. i know your goal is to push product. so all changes you make are based on getting numbers up when it comes to product.

i think it's pretty funny that you want to make us think you do anything in the interest of the user.

furthermore, it's very naive of people to think that polyvore prioritizes the interests of the user.

I feel strongly, and in fact I know this for a fact as I was one of the members who went to your office last summer, that when you roll out redoings to old features, you take the initial backlash with a grain of salt. You wait for everyone to get situated with it and then decide we all like it anyway and move.

But for me, that's not true. When you changed the profile, which I wrote a very long an impassioned critique of during the beta testing, to receive an impartial, robotic sounding response of 'thanks for your feedback!' without considering that I was speaking to how users ACTUALLY use your site and since you didn't ask me beta test this time I assume you don't care much for this point of view. I never actually got used to the new profile layout, I still detest it, but I don't speak out against it any more because there doesn't seem any point to; you don't listen and your team doesn't understand the majority user point of view--how we use the site versus how you think we are using the site, is a venn diagram that overlaps only in small parts.

The same thing I imagine is happening here. You are trying to integrate the same tab+infinite scrolling aka pain-in-the-ass layout from the profile to the set page. It was problematic there and I think it is even more so on the sets, mostly just for simple graphic design related layout reasons.

I agree with a lot of users that you make your changes in order to promote more revenue, which I believe you make from sales through polyvore and of course sponsors. As a company you absolutely have the right to do that, and you have areas of the site where it is appropriate--the product look up page, the homepage, any non-personal area of the site. Personal being the profile and the set and collection pages. Sets pages especially I believe should serve as a frame, a gallery for your set and the items with in it. It should also serve the purpose, in the description section, as a communication platform between yourself and your followers. The comments should be accessible first, long before suggested products. More than that, and this based on a change made several months ago actually, the text box is now situated in such a weird column to the left that reading large blocks of text--WHICH PEOPLE DO USE THAT DESCRIPTION AREA FOR, either as blogs, to express themselves, or share writing--is straining. THEN, with the new layout, that column, when included with more text than just a few words, creates the huge, unappealing white space over below the set. Why aren't the comments there? The set description, like before? Or even the title? There are a thousand ways for all the information that should be on the set page to be on the set page without it looking like a programer did it. And I absolutely do not need 'similar styles' then taking up most the page, in infinite scroll [a trend I hope will someday die.], I don't need comments repeated in two places [under the description and in the tabs], and I espeically, and this goes for the following section, the profile, and the sets, DO NOT WANT SETS ITEMS AND COLLECTION COMBINED INTO ONE GRID JUMBLE. It's too much information, it gives me a headache, and I have tried to like it for months and I don't.

I have been on this site for over six years and have seen almost every iteration of it.
Keep iterating.

In addition, I agree with someone who mentioned that page views are down in general. That is absolutely true--I believe less people are clicking onto the set page or bothering with the profile. I know I avoid it at all costs. But because that, views are down on the whole.

Olivia G said...

I guess I'll just have to get used to it. "Sigh" Oh, well. We may not like it but what's done is done.

Sandra said...

Honestly I don't really like it. I wish you could see the things you liked separately like it used to be. But now your liked collections and your liked sets are jumbled up, and it takes forever. I just wish Polyvore had stayed the way it was before the changes. I don't mind the profile pages now it's just that the way it was before was more convenient.

Anonymous said...

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! It took a little getting used to cause I'm so use to scrolling down for comments. It one of the better changes you've made Polyvore. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

I don't know why we're all wasting our time with feedback, y'all don't listen to us anyway.

However I want it to be heard that Polyvore is just going downhill (in my personal opinion).

It seems as though all you all care about is making an extra buck with advertising. It's beginning to get as obnoxious as the commercials at the beginning of youtube videos.

It was fine how it was, and there have been MANY suggestions on things you all could change for the better.

It's very busy looking, so much to take in, I don't care about similar looks, if I did I would have clicked on the item, not the set.

Polyvore, since the new profiles came out, has gone downhill so fast it's terrifying. Please stop only caring about advertising. It's super obnoxious.

Anonymous said...

There's no way to click on the next set! Annoyyyyyyying! Please fix this.

Those were the good ol' days.

Thank you for your helpful feedback! Don't worry; we will still show all of the Contests and Groups for any set. The tabs are only shown after the set has been entered into a contest or a group. Please let us know if you see anything else! :)

Anonymous said...

Can I change it back? I don't want the sneak peek

Anonymous said...

Some of the changes are nice, but others are not. Under the row or two of items that are shown, there is a link to "list all items". If you click the link, it only brings up one empty box, regardless of how many more items are in the set.

I'm hoping this is a bug, and that someone reads this or finds it some other way & fixes it.

anahitaundiliii said...

I agree with Niwi on the changes mainly. I get what you're trying to do is let people discover more and that's great, but this is not a good idea. We appreaciate that you are trying to include many but there are parts that many will object to.
I for one, will be distracted by items at the bottom while perhaps for example trying to look at the set and see if i like it or there's an item i might want to save, but oh dear! here at the bottom is many other things preventing my mind going to what I wanted.
And no comments to the side, you guys already moved text to the side for sets-which isn't that great for those of us who read in the middle of the page or at least starting with the left! Could we have showcases back and non infinite scrolling for sets and collections? I've had to start compiling a collection just for my collections!

Anonymous said...

Honestly the new layout changes is what took me off the site. It made everything more complicated and I'm not liking this new thing. I just don't like polyvore as much as I used to before the changes. Polyvore should listen to what their users say before they drive them all away.

Anonymous said...

wonderful, spending over a minute scrolling just to get to comments. i've wanted that for so long.

each update is more and more cumbersome. if i want to read the description, i can't read the comments. this is ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

one more thing I don't like - if I want to see my old sets I need to scroll down, scroll down, scroll down and scroll down.... but guys! I have so may sets! I more then 2 years here. so I need to scrolling 10 minutes???? It was so good before. I can choose the number of page and voila! I see my 1st, 2nd etc set.

Rachel Miller said...

From what I've seen so far, I really like it.

The only drawback is when you click on Likes, you're given a looooooong list of those who have liked the set. It might have been easier on the eyes if it were just the icon and name underneath it? If you have a couple of hundred peeps liking your set, it'll be a massive pain to scroll through everybody.

9/10 :)

"Thank you for your helpful feedback! Don't worry; we will still show all of the Contests and Groups for any set. The tabs are only shown after the set has been entered into a contest or a group. Please let us know if you see anything else! :)"

I suppose this is your diplomatic way of saying you aren't going to change anything design wise, just fix programming glitches?
Should I ever expect the changes to be well thought out and user friendly or should I leave the site now?

please Polyvore, change it back. I cant deal with anymore changes in Polyvore, it is becoming a pain to keep scrolling so much. pls pls PLEEEAAASEE

I have never been upset with your layout changes, but this time I can't shut up. At the moment, polyvore is a real mess, and I don't understand why you did this change because it seems to bbe totally useless. What was wrong with the latest version? No more older sets' slide under a set page, comments on the side on a small column, bunch of items under the set wiew mixed with collections, suggestions and other crap... no way to like it.

avengingangels said...

I can't really complain about the layout changes, I quite like it. I do however, dislike that you can't delete other people's comments from your own sets. Also, being unable to view sets in chronological order is rather unlikable. Having to either go to your profile or scroll down a page is a tad inconvenient.

If I were to suggest changing anything about the new layout, it would the comments section and set viewing section. They have both cause quite a bit of inconvenience for myself, unsure about anyone else.

hil4ry said...

This improvement is really THE WORST SO FAR!!!!
1. I have many problems with comments
2. THE WORST THING is that there's no NEXT button when viewing sets.
So yes, really 'productive' (sarcasm). It really makes it easier to check out sets, NOT.
please change it back!!!!

With the previous so-called improvement everyone can easily see the items we are saving. This is really not a good thing!!

I know every improvement is hard to make and there will always be many complains, and I am really thankful to you for being such a great website and always trying to improve.
But please listen to us!!
The new profile page - we are getting used to it.
But giving less space to sets and comments, I think here you are really not hitting the point. On polyvore I mostly come to see and create sets, so sets and comments for me should be the center (focal point).

Hope you will listen to us.

Gothic_Pheonix said...

And what's worse is for the mods don't allow templates in their contests; the sets don't say whether they are template sets anymore so you can't tell at all. Polyvore is now a huge mess thanks to this. Please change it back to the old layout

Please give us back at least the NEXT button on sets! It is so hard switching from set to set!!! PLEASE, listen to us

Anonymous said...

Before anything else, would like to say that I think Polyvore is a great platform and I know a lot of work goes into it.
Been away and came back to a major revamp. I think some of the changes are good - info is more organized.
Here's feedback on the profile page and likes tab. Why is there a need to show item likes under the like tab besides sets, it's redundant when I know what items I've liked and can go to the items tab to see them if I want to, so can my friends. Also, the visual layout is messy when sets are mixed with items. Perhaps consider including a filter and more customization on views so users can set their preferences.
