New York Fashion Week Fall 2014 officially kicked off this morning, which means hundreds of designers will descend upon Manhattan to present their latest collections. Members from our community will post sets throughout the week based on their favorite collections and we can’t wait to see what they come up with! In the meantime, here’s a quick cheat sheet, with everything you need to know about NYFW.
Even though it’s February, the fall collections are coming now so department store buyers, editors and bloggers get a sneak peek at what we’ll be shopping for in the months to come.
This lead time gives buyers from major department stores, such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s a chance to figure out what they will buy for their respective stores. It’s also a time when editors decide which designers they will feature on upcoming covers. And, it gives buyers and editors a chance to figure out which trends to focus on (and what they will be telling all of us to buy and wear).
It’s only day one, so it’s too soon to say what we’ll be wearing come fall, but so far we’re seeing silky evening pajama looks from Rachel Comey, culottes from Cynthia Rowley and lots of oversized belted coats from designers including Richard Chai Love.
Unfortunately, unless you’re a buyer, influential blogger or big-name editor, it’s almost impossible to score an invite to these exclusive shows. Front row favorites include Vogue editor Anna Wintour, bloggers Leandra Medine and Bryan Boy, Bergdorf Goodman exec Linda Fargo, model Cara Delevingne, street style superstar Miroslava Duma and singer Taylor Swift.
After the last model has walked the catwalk at NYFW, editors, buyers, celebs (basically the whole fashion flock) will travel to London Fashion Week, followed by Milan and Paris. Keep checking Polyvore to catch collections from your favorite designers and to create some fun NYFW-related sets of your own.
