We're thrilled to announce that the winner of our LuisaViaRoma Global Fashion Fusion challenge is Leanne Johnson, aka houseofhauteness! Leanne's set was chosen by guest judge, Claire Sulmers of Fashion Bomb Daily out of 2,783 fabulous contest entries. And the prize? An amazing trip to Florence, Italy to attend LuisaViaRoma's Firenze4Ever event in June! And the excitement doesn't stop there because Leanne will also be interning with LuisaViaRoma.
We caught up with Leanne to see how she's taking the awesome news:
How did you feel when you found out your set was chosen by Claire of Fashion Bomb Daily?Honored, flattered, speechless. I'm always shocked whenever I place in a contest. There are so many talented people within the Polyvore community and to be chosen by Fashion Bomb Daily is simply unbelievable! I am still pinching myself.
What inspired you to enter the LuisaViaRoma Global Fashion Fusion contest?
My first thought was, what an exciting opportunity! Who wouldn't want to travel to Florence to mingle with fashion bloggers from around the world and intern for LuisaViaRoma.com? I have to thank my dear friend, Sarah (edenslove), who brought the contest to my attention when it was first announced.
What was the inspiration behind your set?
Whenever I think about the fashion of Brazil, I envision bright, vivid colors so I wanted to create something with beautiful hues. I also wanted to create a look that I would personally wear if ever given the opportunity. I've been into the matchy-matchy style for a while so I paired the skirt and boots together because of the similar patterns. And since 'Brazil Art & Fashion' was the focus, I knew I wanted to somehow incorporate the Charlotte Olympia pineapple shaped bag as a nod to Southern Brazil (where the fruit is believed to have originated) and, well, it's so darn cute!
Not only are you attending Firenze4Ever in Florence, Italy, but you're going to be interning with LuisaViaRoma too! What are you most excited about?
This is literally the opportunity of a lifetime and I am just so incredibly grateful. I can't even begin to express in words how thankful I am for this opportunity!
Your track record for contest wins is pretty amazing. You dressed Brit Morin for the TODAY Show and even met Duran Duran as grand prizes from previous contests. Do you have any tips for the community on how to make a great set?
My old vocal coach once told me that the difference between someone who can and can't is practice, practice, practice. We're all given the same tools to work with, we just need to learn how to use them to the best of our abilities. And while I never became that great singer I envisioned myself being (I swore to him my vocal chords were NOT the same as everyone else's), I did take his advice to heart. To this day, I try to apply it to everything I do.
When I first discovered Polyvore, I wasn't very good at creating sets. I kept working at it, focusing on just one thing the outfit selection or the layout style. But I realized that each element contributes to the big picture and you should focus on all aspects, equally. It's difficult for me to churn out more than one or two sets a day. Most of my sets are crafted over a few hours, sometimes over several days. I'm a natural perfectionist so I tend to spend a lot of my time on the tiny details. When it comes to contests, I really try to read the description, do a little research on the subject matter and go from there.
We're so excited for you, Leanne! Many congrats!
