Clipping from Pinterest

Dear Polyvore Community,

We’ve received some questions around the inability to clip items from Pinterest, so we wanted to give you some background on what’s happening. Last week, Pinterest implemented a Content Security Policy as a security measure of their users that now prevents our clipper (and others) from importing images from their site.

We know that this change may impact those of you who like to clip images from Pinterest, and we’re hoping we can resolve this issue. For now, you can reach out to the Pinterest team to request the Polyvore clipper be “white listed” so you can continue to clip images from Pinterest.

We’ll be sure to keep you posted with any updates! As always, you can keep pinning the great things you find and create here on Polyvore.

Love,
The Polyvore Team

I suspect it's to do with who owns the affiliate links:).

I found this out today when trying to use my clipper on Pinterest. I am not sure why they WOULDN'T want this. If Pinterest allowed Polyvore users to clip, Polyvore users would also have Pinterest accounts, it is beneficial to both companies. I gave feedback to Pinterest on this issue, and I hope more people do the same.

if you open the image in a new tab by itself so its not on the pinterest site anymore it works! I wouldn't know how to make polyvore sets without pinterest so I def had to find a way to work around that!!!!

If you use firefox or chrome you can right click the image and open it in a new tab and then clip it

Wow! Thanks Keara! I didn't know you were having the same problem I talked to Luckied about it and she said she couldn't clip from Chrome but could from another browser. Booo to Pinterest. I may just delete my account now. :-) TJC

Pretty sure there are still PLENTY of good Pins in our search engines already...

I find it strange, as the pin button is almost the exact same thing as the clipper. just that the pin button is way more annoying since it pops up everywhere, even in the Polyvore editor.
I wish Polyvore could do something about this, remove the Pin button and 'I heart It'-button from the editor at least, it gets in the way. when you downsize your items you accidentally click these buttons all the time, it is annoying. I can't see how Pinterest would find the clipper to be of any annoyance though, they pin/clip items all over themselves but at least the clipper is not getting in the way anywhere

sometimes (for some unknown reason), the Polyvore clipper won't allow me to clip things from other websites, so I have to Pin them first, then clip to PV. So, I hope they resolve this issue!

I don't know if it's just me, or if this has actually ever happened, but if we could use the clipper on Pinterest, it would be easy for someone to clip someone's set that was pinned on Pinterest and use it as they want.
I don't think this has ever happened to anyone, but when I saw the contents on Polyvore and Pinterest could be clipped and pinned, I saw another possibility for copying sets, which worried me (and I guess it worried me for nothing).
It might just be me, but I thought it important that I voice my thought.

I can still clip from Pinterest. I clip from Pinterest in my Safari browser on my Ipad or iphone with no problems at all. I just clipped and it works fine for me. I have heard there are some work arounds if you use a computer. But just wanted to let everyone know that you can still clip from Pinterest if you use an ipad or iPhone to do it. This has been a problem with Etsy as well.

well I miss cliping from pinterest, because I could pin items from my browser. It would be really nice if Polyvore have a button to inport items directly from ower computer, like pinterest have,it would be so great, and much esear, not to use other sites for that.

Yes, Diamond Girl... I think we all use it to stash stuff!!Just the other day I clipped a drive- in movie background for a competition and it was used four times before I had a chance to use it.....if I had had a secret stash I could have had first go at it... I won't use it at all now because it would look as if I was copying !!The problem could be solved easily if we could clip items directly from our own computer... how about it Polyvore??

How utterly disappointing! I just responded again to their emails (we've been chatting to say the least) that it was on their end and the only place it didn't work. I second the "stash" as I just like stuff and hold it til I need it and only import when ready to create....I know I can still get my images but I miss the bulk import for collections and contests....I just sent another reply BEGGING them to "white list" and bothered them on FB...HA

Ironically enough Pinterest is the princess of copyright infringement--but oh hey, let's ban other people from using our already-stolen images!
(read the fine print of their posting/privacy policy and you will find out just how weird it is)

Are you serious. All I use is pinterest.

Or post from the source content that it's pinned from. Try that.

Here is the link to ask Pinterest to reinstall the option to use the clipper on their website. http://help.pinterest.com/en/login-request. I just did. Share this with others.

Its a good idea that Pinterest is doing this. I had some of my sets pinned on this site from somebody in Polyvore, a few years ago. I didn't even know about it until I came across it. I wasn't even asked permission either. I see this as stealing. We do need some boundaries with acts like this.

Meh, I just save the pic to Tumblr (with the original link) and clip that...

Lerato said...

OH THANK GOD!!!!!!!!! I HATE when people clip items from Pinterest! WHY can't everyone just clip items from the original website in the first place?! It literally is THE MOST ANNOYING thing to have the same image clipped 100 times from 100 different Pinterest accounts!

metalheavy said...

Does this mean Polyvore will now take the "pin it" buttons off items in the editor? Cause those things REALLY get in the way.

Thank you for the update and how to follow up with Pintrest

Bit of a cheek from pinterest since they allow their users to take pictures from anywhere and pin them lol contradictive much?

Brievel Montague said...

Worst comes to worst, you can always take a screenshot and use MS Paint, Photoshop, or whatever to get rid of the background on the item, save it to your computer...and...well, I got a blog on Blogger specifically for the purpose. For the moment, that still works.

If they (Pinterest) want to pound their highchair and be uncooperative than frankly I don't need them. Polyvore is better anyway and it cooperates with other sites that matter more.

I've just clipped some stuff from Pinterest, using Safari on a Mac. Hope it works for others.

i have been away for 3 weeks and just seen this - after contacting polyvore as to why my clipper wouldn't work! i have since contacted pinterest and am waiting for their reply.
this is a total disaster as far as i'm concerned - and i'm sure for many polyvorians - who depend on being able to clip items from pinterest in order to make art on polyvore and then pin it back onto pinterest.
what is the point of pinterest if it only allows pinning back and forth, without being able to use the items other than to look at them! :(

I'm beside myself that we can no long clip from Pinterest to Polyvore. As long as I've been making sets I've been collecting images in Pinterest for use in sets. Now I can hardly access them - maybe one out of twenty? And it takes forever to go to the original source! I've written to Pinterest, a drop in the ocean I imagine, but please, please Polyvore can you negotiate something with them so we can continue to share images between sites! Gratefully in advance Nikki
